Windows Vista: Fax / Scan Software Compatible With Vista Home Premium

Q: Windows Vista: Fax / Scan Software Compatible With Vista Home Premium

As Windows Fax and Scan facility only applies to Vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate, is there a recomended alternative (free) software program for Home Premium ??Vista "Boot Safe Mode" When I used XP, I had a program that enabled an automatic "boot" that gave the option of booting into Safe Mode, without having to restart the system with your finger hovering over the F5 or F8 key to kick it into Safe Mode. Is there such a software for Vista? A few "mixed" questions that I could really do with some answersfor ...please...I know that the folowing questions do not neccesarilly fall into this Vista related forum, but having searched for answers and come up empty handed, I thought I might try my luck here.. Is there a specific forum / site where you can post multiple questions varying from Google to Vista to Firefox - basically a general forum??I know that there are some, but having posted in these forums I noticed that many of the subject "latest post" is often well over a month or so ago which signifies a severe lack of members.Re: Google - I have been trying to make google search results open in a new tab using the about:configbrowser.search.openintab change to "true". Although it is now set to "true" is hasn't made the results open in new tab. Is there another method for doing this??Re: Windows - How do you make new windows open fully instead of the annoying small window that does not have the minimize / maximize buttonRe: Firefox - how do i get the tab scroll buttons to be on the left and right of the tab bar instead of just on the right side:-Re: HP Laptop Battery (Low / Critical) Alarm Sound Notification. Although I have set a sound wave for critical alarm notification, it does not work - although when clicking on "Test" the wave sound plays. Why doesn't it actually work when the battery is low?? :-My apologies for all these questions but I just don't know where else I can post multiple questions in one forum. So if there is an alternative option, please let me know.Huge thanksNat

Preferred Solution: Windows Vista: Fax / Scan Software Compatible With Vista Home Premium

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am new to the forum. I have the Win7 RC 7100 build right now. I have installed most of what I need to run and everything is great so far. The only question I have is would all the programs I am running now run in Win7 Home Premium since it will not include the Windows XP mode? I never ran Vista so this mode is new to me. I am assuming that if I need to go in and tell it to run in XP mode that that software would not run in Home Premium. Therefore I am also assuming that if I can install software and it runs without me telling it to run in XP mode, then it should be fine in Home Premium. Please correct me if I am wrong or if I am on the right track here. Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

I have windows Vista home premium that dosnt come with fax software when I bought my computer. Any suggestion on what fax software I need to install on my computer. Help is much appreciated.

A:Fax software for windows vista home premium

Wow, i have Ultimate so I didn't know the problem existed. How crappy of them to take the fax feature out. I can't verify this software, but when I researched for an answer to your question on different message boards SnappyFax came up as a solution quite often. I hate to answer your question this way because I have no idea how well it works, but maybe it will help you a little, or at least point you in the right direction.EDIT: It does seem to come with a free trial version here that you may want to try first.

I cannot log on. When I put in my password it tells me that the user profile service failed to log on and the user profile cannot load. Can you help me?

A:windows vista home premium software

Hello sherry1170,
have you tryed to log onto your profile in safe mode ??
if your computer allows you to log on in safe mode create a new user area and then restart your computer and load it into windows as usual and try to log onto this acount this may solve the problem of logging onto the machine as your original acount may be currupt in some way stoping it from logging on in normal mode ... if this works to retreave the files from your original account they will be in C:/users/"original user acounts name"

According to Windows You are not able to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Business.

I wanted to join one of our developers to our domain, unfortunately this developer has a machine running Windows Vista Home Premium. We have a license to Windows Vista Business. After reading the website above it is not possible to upgrade, only to do a clean install.

This is not an option for the company since we have some serious deadlines to meet.

I started doing research online for cloning solutions but the question is rather complex to put in a search query.

In essence this is what I am trying to do.

Install a cloning software to make a copy of the hard drive.
Do a clean install from Home Premium to Windows Business.
Use cloning software to put all applications, user's settings, etc exactly the way it was before installing Windows Business without any conflicts.

Will there be any conflicts (i.e. with the registry) or anything else, since the applications where installed in Windows Vista Home and now they are running in Windows Vista Business?

What is the best (if possible free) cloning software that I could use to clone the developer's stuff?

Is this even possible?

I appreciate any help I can get. I just started this job and don't want to let my bosses down.

Thank you very much!

Working on my security + course and I'm now worried about vulnerabilities on my home computer.

I have Malwarebytes and AVG paid running. And I run Ad-Aware regularly.

Is there a program I can download to check my ports, software that needs updating ?

A:scan my Vista Home premium for vulnerabilities ?

I use, and glad that I do, Secunia PSI. It will tell you if any software needs security updates.
You then want to download WinPatrol If any nasties try to make an unauthorized change you are notified.
These are all free.
I have also found that eset on line (a browser add on) is excellent at finding stuff that the others miss. Nothing that you have, or I have suggested, will cause cofnlicts if installed on the same computer.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. I just began using it. It came loaded on an older NOS HP G60 Series Notebook I recently purchased. I had Windows XP 32 Bit on my older system, and was a fan of Auslogics Disk Defrag Free. I liked it's speed and it's optimization strategy. At their site, it says it's only compatible with Vista 32. I've been digging around forums and the web but it's still not clear who's got a compatible Defrag... I don't want to wreck my file system or anything like that. I would like to get some suggestions for Vista 64 Bit Defrag Applications... suggestions that are 100% verifiable... and of course I'm looking for something other than the Defrag function that comes with Vista...

I am trying to connect to two computers that are connected to a Linksys Router using Remote Assistance on a Vista Home Premium Machine. I get the error message that the person you are trying to help may have closed remote assistance. I get the same message when trying to connect to either machine. I am guessing the problem is with a setting in the router, but I don't know what setting.

A:Remote Access from Vista Home Premium to Vista Home Premium and XP Home Edition

You should forward the ports on the router to the IP Addresses of the machines, that you want to connect to. On Symantec PC Anywhere, it is ports 5631 and 32, on Windows remote desktop connection it is port 3389 that needs to be forwarded.

I recently purchased a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium and a trial version of Norton 360 preloaded. Once the trial was over, I followed the instructions on purchasing the full version. In doing that I now have a mess of Vista where system windows won't open, all of my Gadgets were deleted and cannot be reinstalled and Norton 360 itself won't even open. I have downloaded the Norton removal tool and reinstalled 360 as recommended by Norton, however I still don't have my gadgets or the ability to open system windows like Personalization and Norton 360 still doesn't open. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can correct this issue?

A:Vista Home Premium and Trial Software

If it were me, I'd avoid any Norton software at all costs. It seems Norton-protected systems are the first to fall when viruses hit since Norton gets inactivated by them.

There is little you can do if Norton support can't help you. But trying a System Restore point from before all this happened might help. Uninstall what you can before restoring and after. And definitely remove all you can of any Norton products before trying to install the new version since their own products are often incompatible with one another.

You'll also need to remove any other protection software that you have, including firewalls and anti-spyware apps that Norton may be incompatible with, and certainly any anti-virus protection.

Hi all,
Have a question on installing an old piece of software on VISTA Home Premium SP1 64bit. The interesting thing is this software is installed and running on Win XP Media Center 2005 SP3 and runs like a watch. However attempts to install on my VISTA machine prove futile. I get the following message:
The disk itself states for Windows 95/98/98SE/NT ( I know this is old stuff) copyright 2000. I don't know apples from oranges about code and I'm definitely not a code monkey; but wonder if it has something to do with the way the program was written? Could it have been written in 16bit code? Like I said it installs and operates on a 32bit OS. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I have tried running as Administrator and it makes no difference.....same message appears.

A:installing an old piece of software on VISTA Home Premium SP1 64bit

Hi all,
Thanks for looking. I also tried the "Windows Compatibility Wizard" and it was a nogo no matter what I did. Soooo, after much Googling and many dead ends, I finally tracked down the current company that owns the software (not the original publisher) and they cannot make it work in VISTA either. Claim they are working with Microsoft on some kind of patch. I will say this for them though they were honest enough to put this fact in 'red letters' on their Google ad. I missed it first time around. I'll just use it on my XP machine.
Thanks for the help

I have a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium x86 and I want to DualBoot!!! Tell me: can I do this?? If I can, tell me how!!!

A:Can I DualBoot Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Vista Home Premium??

Well to do this you would need two product keys. Since you can only use one key on one installed system, to dual boot two vista OS you would need a seperate product key for each one, if you have two keys all you need are two seperate partitions to install them on.

Greetings Tech Support Guy, The computer I wish to purchase has Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled, with a ticket to purchase an upgrade To Windows 7 Home Premium.
As I wish to use Windows 7 immediately (without bothering with Vista Home Premium) can you please advise, in detail, how I can delete Vista completely and install Windows 7 with minimum fuss.
All help greatly appreciated,

A:Replacing Vista Home Premium with Windows 7 Home Premium

When you get the Vista DVD, boot from it and choose Custom "advanced" installation. Then highlight the partition you want to put 7 on (preferably the Vista partition) then click "delete" (be careful which partition you choose) once the old Vista partition is deleted, be sure the new unallocated partition is highlighted and hit next to continue installing 7. Here is a screenshot, your partition structure may be slightly different.

I have recently purchased a new Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (WVHP) installed.

The computer came with a number of programs that I am not interested in having on my system. In addition, I was not provided a restore disc. I do own a copy of Windows Vista Home Basic (WVHB).

I would like to keep WVHP as I appear to be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 . . . but I would like to reinstall to get rid of all these worthless programs. Can I use a WVHB disc with my new WVHP product key?

Could I install WVHB with the WVHB product key, then use the WVHP key supplied by Acer to upgrade?

Thanks for your time in answering my question. I hope it isn't unclear.

Hey guys,

I want to upgrade my OS from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium and I have the Anytime upgrade DVD (provided at the time when I bought my laptop which came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium). Since this is the first time I will ever try to upgrade my OS and I will be paying for it (lol) I wanted to clear a few doubts before I went about it. My current OS is a Deutsch (German) version. I want my new OS to be in English. So my question is -

Will the upgrade process provide me with the option to choose an installation language?

I researched a bit about language packs and if I'm not very wrong, Multiple language packs work only for Business and Ultimate versions but not for Basic and Home premium. Third party language packs like Vistalizator has been reported to work fine but Microsoft doesn't recommend it and some users have reported to have problems where it pops the message " your windows is not genuine".

So should I do an upgrade or just do a clean install with an original Windows 7 Home Premium DVD?

A:Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

I am not sure about the answer regarding the language pack, but I am sure about the upgrade or the clean install. Do the clean install. A clean install is always preferred over an upgrade. With an upgrade all the old problems that may exist with the OS are just carried to the new installation.
Upgrades often fail, either because of third party software that is not compatible, or malicious software that breaks in the new install.
There are some members that back up their stuff and do a clean install on a regular basis to have the OS run smoothly as the first day. Trust me go with the clean install and enjoy your new OS

I haven't really been able to find any clear information on this, all i've been able to find out about is from XP to Vista.

I recently spent £750 on home studio equipment (I'm an fan of music production and will be off to uni in september to get a degree in it)... but what i didn't realise was, the main software that came with one of the components (Pro Tools LE 8 if it matters?) isn't compatible with Vista Home Premium, which i didn't realise.

So i was wondering, firstly, is it possible to upgrade from Home Premium to Business/Ultimate?

If so, What is the best method of doing it?
(Or what ARE the methods of doing it?)
Can you download it? Should you order a disc from Microsoft?

Thirdly, How much would it cost?
I've only been able to find prices which i think are for XP to Vista, coming to about £200 (I can't afford to be spending that much right now), so would going from Vista Home Premium to Business/Ultimate be any cheaper?

A:Vista Home Premium to Vista Business/Ultimate Question

Yes, there is a method to upgrade "Windows Anytime Upgrade".

Got to the Control Panel, and click on "Windows Anytime Upgrade", and follow the instructions.

I have used this during the Beta of Vista and Windows 7 and it works great during beta. I have not tried on a production machine, but have heard that it works.

A:Dual Boot Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate?

this does work to dual boot vista, just install ultimate on a second hard drive to be safe

The installation options

You can approach the dual-boot installation operation in one of two ways -- by cold booting from the Windows Vista DVD or by inserting the Windows Vista DVD while Windows XP is running. As you can imagine, you'll encounter slightly different introductory screens depending on which approach you use, but once you get stared the operation is essentially the same.
While both methods will produce the same result, I prefer the cold booting from the DVD method. The main reason is that you don't have to worry about any interference from antivirus/antispyware/firewall software on your existing Windows XP installation.
Performing the installation

Once you have your second partition or second hard disk operational, just insert your Windows Vista DVD, restart the system, and boot from the DVD. Once the system boots from the DVD, Windows Vista?s Setup will begin loading and will display the screen shown in Figure A.
Figure A:
Windows Vista?s Setup will take a few moments to load files before the installation actually commences. In a few moments, you?ll see the screen that prompts you to choose the regional and language options, as shown in Figure B. As you can see, the default settings are for U.S. and English and if that?s you, you can just click Next to move on.

Hey all

These forums are gnarly in-depth. Love it. Anyway, I have the OEM win 7 x64 on this (my main) comp, and have my old Acer notebook just sitting there with nothing on it except the basic Vista Home Premium x32 on it. I finally just left the thing blank after I did the fifth or sixth Vista crash start all over technique so many times, and just went new with everything. So right after I finished the excitement of seeing the "Preparing Your Desktop"
screen on this comp. I thought, "I'd like to just put it on my other one too." Right? After a bunch of browsing into ten thousand forums, and guides or what not, I still have no true fact that one cannot do it with the same key. It's all a bunch of "yeah you can," or "no way." arguments. Maybe one solid answer on the whole forum. And what if I just dual boot it, and if 7 won't activate, just go back to blankity blank Vista. I had the beta 7 on there too before I wiped it clean this last time. It'd be worth giving away with windows 7 on it. I know computers inside-out. Enough to know it's stupid to just do something, and suffer the result. Further more, My question is, can or can't you
somehow use the 64bit OEM disc and key on one comp, and then use it on your other 32bit, with athlon II x64 CPU, PC? Or does anyone really have a clue...lol?

Thanks, Johnny B

A:OEM Windows 7 Home Premium x64 act on 1 PC, use for old x32 vista too?

You can not use a Lenovo OEM disc on an Acer computer as it is tied to the computer that it was originally installed on... During installation, it will query the BIOS and will know it is a different BIOS than the one it was designed for, and fail to continue... You will need to get a different version of Windows 7 .... Hello petesar, and welcome.

This sounds like it could be a bad CD. Try borrowing one from a friend or something and see if you get the same error.

I have Ultimate, but I am guessing if you open services.msc you will be able to start or stop the service if it is there.

In a few days time I will, hopefully, be upgrading to W7 by clean install.
I have run the W7 Upgrade Checker and found that the following items have listed as :- 'Unknown, no compatability information', they are :-

1. NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management

2. Ricoh Memory Stick Host Controller
Can anyone please advise whether it is safe to run without these, or
given the unknow factor, re-install them. I find it worrying that MS can't
classify them.
Thank you

Im looking at Newegg, and I see that if you buy Vista now, you can get windows 7 upgrade free later. Is this only for people buying it now? Or does windows realise how much they failed and give everyone with Vista an upgrade?

A:Vista Home Premium to Windows 7?

This happens with all Microsoft products when new one's are scheduled to be introduced. It's a marketing ploy that moves the cash flow up in time (so they get their money sooner rather than later).

In this case it's been available since late June and is targeted at those people buying computer stuff for "back to school".

Well I have read the thread to decide which one to get, but it didn't help much. So I'm building an entirely new system, and have two questions. Main question is, should I buy Vista 64-bit, or 32-bit. My Primary use will be gaming, and browsing. I will also do those little things that basically everyone with a pc does (music, movies, etc). Here are links to both versions of Vista that I want to purchase.
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD
Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD
Second question is, will all of this hardware be compatible with each other, and will it be compatible with both of the 32-bit and 64-bit vista types? I'm thinking if I go either way, I won't have to change my hardware since these are pretty new parts. Here are the parts.

A:Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit or 64-bit?

64-bit. I know quite a few building enthusiastes who love it for gaming, etc. Especially since you can utilize 4 GBs or more of of RAM.

Of course, you'll hear both sides of the story, but I think you'll find this link an interesting read:

Hello all

I have an Acer PC with all the Acer junk in it, I was thinking of buying Windows Vista Home Premium full version and doing a clean intall so I just have Vista stuff and no Acer junk to deal with

The stores in Canada want 300 bucks for a full version of Home Premium 64bit, I've seen the same thing on Ebay ranging from 99 to 130 bucks but I am a little leary of which one I should buy, they have product numbers on them, I tried to find out which number is for which version but had no luck

here is the product # for this one particular one I was interested in, its $119.00 US

Brand NEW Original manufacturer OEM SEALED Package
One (1) pack of :
Microsoft Windows VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64-bitENGLISH Full Version OEM SEALED PACK on DVD, INCLUDED Microsoft SERVICE PACK 1 ( SP1 ) DVD Disc, P/N# 66I-00788.
Anyone know if the number for this version is in fact the full 64bit version that I need to do a clean install?

Hi derekk,

Did you make any changes to the system prior to the shutdown? Any updates isntalled etc?

Please try and boot the machine into safemode (Press F8 during start). If this works, try restoring the system to a previously known working restore point.

Miscrosoft Security Essentials pushed an update to my laptop yesterday and today my computer will not run MSE - says it is unavailable. Also now says my computer is infected with viruses and continues to shut my laptop down after about 2 mins. I cannot keep the computer online long enough to do anything. Very frustrated - anyone have any ideas?

A:Windows Vista Home Premium & MSE

It is my opinion that the update was not from MSE, but from a rogue (a virus that was made to look like MSE). When you updated you installed the virus. The cause is truly not important, but rather what we will do to solve the problem.
See if you can get to system restore in safe mode. If you can, go back a few days before the upadate.
