best printer for compatible inks

Q: best printer for compatible inks

Can anyone recommend the best printer for using compatible inks please - ie chips allow compatible refills.

[I have an old epson D88 which is great but a new Epson SX415 which is a nightmare - cartridges are so small and chips keep stopping the printer working - even using a resetter]

Recommendations appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Peach Office Products of Switzerland manufacture compatible inks for Canon, Epson and HP.

The German computer magazine "Computer Bild" tested these inks as part of a comprehensive printer ink test in May 2009 and awarded them the Test Winner Award.

If anyone on this Forum has purchased and used these inks then I would be interested to receive their comments.

I believe that most printers will use generic cartridges. But wait until you hear from some of the other members as a lot of them know a lot more than I do.

Do any other users with this model printer find that it burns through ink faster than a wino goes through cheap moselle?
With previous Epsons I owned I found that Calidad (non-genuine) ink cartridges lasted 2-3 months with excellent results and only occasionally required print head cleaning.
Now with the C61 I find that Calidad cartridges only last 3 weeks and require frequent print head cleaning. Has Calidad not manufactured a good ink for this model or has Epson created an ink guzzler or is there a deliberate strategy to drive me away from non-genuine inks? I get a pop-up window once a week or so advising me that I'm using non-genuine cartridges and asking me if I'd like to change to genuine Epson cartridges. (Big brother IS watching me !)

Hello, anyone advise me please?

My printer, Epsom Stylus SX125, connected to Vista Home Premium, will not accept the Third Party Inks. I have never used them before, but due to the cost (Italy, where I live, almost Euro 45) I decided to try Amazon. I did not buy a cheap pack - around £14, so I thought it would be ok - the manufacturer certainly said so, and it was supposed to be compatible with my printer. I do not do a lot of printing - mainly study copies and the odd letter, and they tend to dry out quickly.

Is there any way to re-programme/bypass the computer to enable the printer accept third party inks? They do have the metallic chips incidentally.

Can I just buy Black to print? Or do I have to buy the 4 inks?

Your help would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Bossy printer will not accept the inks

you need to do a reset, usually they include the instructions with the replacement cartridges or on their website

you usually find if one ink runs out then none of them work

I use compatible inks on my Epson and have accumulated lots of Yellows, can I use these in any slot on the machine so long as I'm prepared to put up with weird colours.

No - Epson senses which cartridge has been inserted, and will throw an error message if it senses the wrong on present in any bay.

Simply don't buy yellow cartridges for a while

I have a portable spirometer (to test lung functions) that can print the stored results to a PCL-compatible printer. The printer cable has a RS-232 plug.

My printer is a hp psc 1210 printer/scanner/copier and only has a square plug that plugs into the printer. A USB cable plugs into that from my computer.

My EPSON 660 STYLUS COLOUR printer has two cartridges, one black and one that is a tri colour .Recently I decided to change from EPSON original cartridges to the PRINTRITE cheaper compatible ones. At present I have two different manufacturers cartridges in my printer, a Epson black cartridge and a PRINTRITE colour cartridge. Will these two different makes of inks mix because I now seem to have trouble reproducing colours such as dark green that came out true to colour using EPSON black/colour catridges. With the mix of EPSON black and PRINRITE colour the dark green is now almost reproduced as black. Has any one had this same problem I just want to check before I bin a almost full EPSON black catridge and replace it with a PRINTRITE black cartridge to see if this cures the problem.

I have a computer from internetishop (hugebee), a Pentium 3 with 256ram and 1.2g processor. I am trying to install an HP psc 2100 all-in-one printer. The CD runs a check of the system first and comes back that OP system is not viable (A display comes up that lists the components it has checked, and there's a green check on all, but the OS), there is a big red X next to OS, but all other components check out. One would think that means it's not compatible, however I took the printer and installed it on my friend's PC and they also have XP as their OS with matching system specs. Internetishop's tech support sucks big time and they have no clue how to fix this. Does anyone has any suggestions? It seems like it would be an easy fix, but I'm just not sure where to start and internetishop is suggesting that I go to windows 98, that's a pretty sad solution considering that I bought XP from them. Please help! The printer works fine, so does the drivers CD. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi all,

My printer is getting pretty old (a Dell AIO 924) and it isn't compatible with Windows 7. I am looking for a a new all in one printer that's compatible with Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit. It doesn't have to be a wireless printer. I am looking for the best all in one printer that is compatible with Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit that is $70 or under. If there is a good one for $80 I might be willing to pay a little more. Thanks for the help!

I needed to reinstall windows and decided on W7 64bit but now my Canon pixma printer IP4200 will not work,( 32bit version)
Tried the supposedly 64bit driver from Canon but still no luck.

Uninstalled printer software and tried again, still no luck.

Looks like a new printer required, but the question is what Inkjet printer will work with w7 64bit.

Does any member have a printer that works and if so what make (prefer Canon)

Getting desparate now

A:[SOLVED] Printer compatible

I would hold off before buying a new printer. If it was working before and the only difference is you've installed Windows 7 64bit, then you should be able to get it to work.

One thought, what was the Operating System you had before?

This printer isn't wireless, right? So it is connected with USB? (Connect the printer first before doing the following).

You could try running Windows Update, after going into the "Change Settings" and ticking the option "give me recommended updates...", the update facility might (should) offer you the correct driver to install for the printer.

Hello Everyone,

I have moved from W 7 Home Premium to W 7 Ultimate.
I have had an HP desktop 2050 for about 3 years without problem.
I can no longer print a job with page borders.
I have literally tried EVERY combination of borders available in MS Word 2010 and also using Open Office.
Each time I have the message that the "page borders are outside the printable area."
I have downloaded the most recent drivers and still can not print without this message. If I decide to print, then a portion of the border is compromised.
As a 'last ditch' effort I post this question here, in the hope that someone has knowledge of this problem, before I consign the printer to a dark and forgotten place and purchase a printer that is compatible with Ultimate and - probably - from a different maker.

A:Please name Printer compatible with W 7 Ultimate

Hi Colin,

This isn't an Ultimate problem, or even a Windows 7 problem, but rather you need to look at the page layout/paper sizes/border sizes in Word itself.

Your printer is definately supported under all versions of Windows 7 - note that there is no such thing as "Ultimate compatibility".

I am getting ready to buy a new printer and I love the idea that HP inks SUPPOSEDLY print 2,400 pages before running out. If this is true, then it is the best option for me.

HP inks are very expensive. I am thinking about buying the hp office jet 7780 all in one, with an extended warranty. But if the ink cartridges don't perform as stated, 2,400 pages, then this is not my best option.

A:Do HP XL inks REALLY print 2,400 pages??

Page yield (black and white)
2,450 pages*
Page yield footnote
*Tested in HP Officejet Pro K550 Color Printer. Average based on ISO/IEC 24711 or HP testing methodology and continuous printing. Actual yield varies considerably based on content of printed pages and other factors. For details see http://www.hp.com/go/learnaboutsupplies.

I know a 3rd party ink manufacturer had problems with this type of information, as it really depended on a number of factors, i guess you will need someone who has the printer and has counted the pages used

also remember the ink supplies with the printer are NOT usually full only part filled

i would only ise it for comparative purposes

They did a small segmant on the news here about photo papers and inks so I thought I would pass this along. I use HP ink and Kodak paper but not the stuff mentioned. I have photos from 4yrs. ago that have not faded as of yet so I guess that's a good combination.

A key consideration in how much a photo will fade is the ink used to print it, so Consumer Reports tested the Kodak paper with six inks. For a six-week period, a photo from each of the six printers was stored in the dark, while a second set was placed in a light box to simulate what happens to a photo over time.

At the end of the test, four of the six samples faded, some noticeably, others only slightly. On the upside, photos printed with HP and Epson inks on Kodak Ultima Picture paper with ColorLast did very well. When compared to the photos stored in the dark, the photos exposed to light showed no fading at all.

Consumer Reports says the new Kodak Ultima paper with ColorLast performed as well as HP and Epson papers did with their own inks. And at 46 cents per sheet, it's comparably priced with other premium photo papers.

A:Photo paper and inks

Interesting observation acraftylady. I use an Espon printer with Epson inks and Epson paper. My 1270 uses archival inks and has 6 colors. I use Epson's ColorLife paper and have yet any prints fade unless kept in direct sunlight as some people tend to do. However, I do have to say, even lab printed photos will fade if one hangs them in direct sunlight for years. And I have tried the Kodak Ultima papers and found them lacking quality in some areas, especially shadows. Shadows tend to be grainy looking. I get this same effect if I use HP paper. So I tend to stick with what works for me and that is Epson ink with Epson paper.

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit), but now my Lexmark All-In-One X74-X75 printer drivers aren't compatible... well, kind of.

When I first reinstalled the drivers after the upgrade, I was able to use the scan facility of the printer, and print jobs could queue up for printing, but they would not print. When I attempted to update drivers, uninstall/reinstall, etc, I was told the installation was unsuccessful.

I could not find any drivers for my model printer on the Lexmark site, but I was hoping someone out there may have some tips on how I can get around this problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, I've searched this site and to the end of the web. The problem is my HP photosmart C-5180 printer won't recognize some new "compatible" cartridges (HP 02).

AFTER I bought them, THEN the seller tells me that "after they researched it, other customers are reporting problems w/ compatible carts & C-5100 / 6100 series printers". Other retailers have now also told me the same.

I'm looking for a workaround. My problem is that the printer won't recognize the new cart, NOT that it says it's empty. Error message: "cartridge(s) is missing or damaged." Obviously, HP has rigged this printer & the HP 02 cart so generic carts won't work.:dead:

I went through all the steps that the inkseller suggested to "trick" the printer into recognizing the compatible carts. HA! But, just like everything else, there must be a hack for this.

Suggestions or links would be appreciated.

A:Using compatible cartridges in HP C-5180 printer

tough break. The only solution I can offer is to buy an ink refill kit with the original HP carts. Obviously they are using ID chips in their ink carts to prevent 3rd party ink carts from being used. Very sneaky and also a violation of some trade laws.

I have a HP Pavillions P6000 Series with a Windows 7 operating system. It would not "talk" to my 5-yr old HP 3700dn printer. Bought a new HP Color LaserJet CP2025 less than a year ago. Have spent countless hours with Tech Support downloading, uninstalling, and reinstalling various drivers. Worked for a couple of days then would not print. Any color print job over 500 kb would not print. Now it will not print at all. Need to print frequently using 65 cardstock and always in color with graphics.

I have searched review boards for a color laser printer compatible with Windows 7 and prints quality pages ($500 price limit). This is what I have found: Konica Minota: problems with compatability, Brother: toner hog and bad customer service, Samsung: fuser issues and terrible customer service, OKI: fuser problems and expensive ink, Lexmark: toner hog and other hardware issues, Ricoh: could not find any reviews but do they really still sell these?

Grateful for any suggestions of a brand and model # that would actually be a good fit for my needs.

Thanks in advance!

One of the inks has stopped working.

It just doesn't seem to be sucking the ink through.

It was working fine: and then just suddely stopped.

I've done the maintenance that can be done through the drivers interface: like cleaning nozzles and deep cleaning etc - still no luck.

Is there anything else that can be done?
Or is my printer doomed?

We recently purchased a laptop, Gateway MX8738, that uses the Vista OS and a wireless printer that is Vista compatible (Lexmark x4550). Our internet signal is received via a combination modem/wireless router (Verizon, Westall Model 327).
We were successful in loading the printer wirelessly to our laptop and able to print documents. But found, when attempting to access our internet service (that had been operational), we were unable to do so though signal was strong. Upon going to Network and Sharing we learned the printer was blocking the internet signal to the laptop. Over the course of 2 days, we spent easily 8 hrs each with both Lexmark and Verizon with neither able to help, each pointing fingers at the other.
This is our last resort. We temporairly disconnected the Windows firewall on the laptop and found this did not solve our problem. We also have a Trend Micro Anti Virus loaded on the laptop, but did nothing with that. Any one out there have any suggestions? Your assistance is greatly appreciated by this computer novice. Thank you.

On a laser color printer why is it imprtant to print text using a black cartridge only.
If black and colour cost the same - what does it matter?

A:black/color inks for black printing

Nothing to do with cost - it gives better quality text. Text which isn't a true, deep black (ie tinged with other colours) just doesn't look very professional. And, in business at least, that matters.

For the same reason, buying a cheap inkjet printer which doesn't use a black cartridge (black is produced by mixing CMY in different amounts - producing a muddy black) is a bad idea if you want crisp-looking black text. Thankfully most new inkjets now have a dedicated black cartridge.

A:Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).

CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)

Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)

One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.

A:Compatible, or not compatible, that is the question.

why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.

My computer is working fine - but I recently purchased a new Samsung ML2570 laser printer that just died when the starter cartridge ran out of toner (or actually when the printer counter hit its predetermined set no. - probably 1000). At least I think that's what happened. The starter cartridges come without fuses. Replacement cartridges or toner refill kits come with fuses that are supposed to reset the counters, so when I refilled the starter cartridge and inserted the fuse that came with the kit, the printer still didn't work. I tried again with two more fuses, with no luck. I don't have a printer jam and all the doors are well-latched before I turn it on. Does anyone have any idea what I should do next to get my printer working again? My email is [email protected]

<g class="gr_ gr_55 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="55" id="55">Problem</g> started a couple of weeks ago when I noticed that I could not print PDF files. I almost exclusively use
Google Chrome browser. When I would try to print a PDF file it would go to "Save" instead of "Print." Now I can not print anything. Not even a Word document. I think the printer spooler has gone AWOL on the computer.
I tried a fix that was listed in the Windows Vista forum that involved copying a bunch of code to Notebook, saving that on the Desktop as "spooler.reg" , then double clicking on this file & letting it do its thing...to no avail. Went to the
HP website & downloaded their support assist program to see if I could download the driver again, but it did nothing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have trouble installing a HP Color LaserJet 8550N printer (has JetDirect Printer Server 600N with IP address of to my XPpro PC.
I was stuck when Add Printer Wizard ask me to “specific a Printer”. I selected “Browse for a printer” and came up with nothing (no printer). I tried selecting “Connect to this printer” but I do not know what name to type in (Example is \\server\\printer). I tried selecting “Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network” but I do not what URL to type in (Example is http://server/printer/myprinter/printer). Therefore, I cancelled the installation.
I had then installed its Printer Utility. The utility is capable of finding the printer and showing me it’s Properties. However, I still ended up with no printer listed to use in Printers and Faxes.
So, XPpro is a step backward in this case.
I could install this printer with printer server on W98/ME because their Add Printer Wizards allow me to use either the IP address or the hardware address to locate the printer server.
I hope I have described my problem well. Please help!

My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues.

First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%. It doesn't not show up as installed. I copied the CD to the desktop, modified Setup.exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install; however, when I go to Device Manager, it says no driver is found. I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer (which has the green bar run across the top, then pulsate and freeze).

Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart. The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard.

I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble. That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness!

Additionally, attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up/freezing soon in to the process, whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu, file or Uninstall program. I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up/freezes. FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while so there are ma... Read more

A:Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo

Hi columbia93, welcome to 7F!

Printers are touchy animals, when installing any printer you have to follow the install procedures exactly as described by the manufacturer.

This may be the root cause:

FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while

Not that you haven't been able to check it, but there may be an accumulation of problems on your Mom's machine that also are stopping the update process.

I am trying to find one of 7F's tutorials on improving performance of a computer, but it boils down to cleaning out all detritus that a machine can accumulate of a period of time.
I did find this but there is another one: Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover The first three options would help

Run Antimalware/virus scans, run a Check Disk then a sfc /scannow then try to uninstall that old printer driver, and if that works shut down the machine, and try to install the printer without the HP disk, when it looks, but asks if you have the disk say no and allow the OS to install what it has.
It is my understanding that HP Printer drivers already come with Windows 7.

But do the cleanup first and see if that helps.

1. I set up Vista Business on a freshly-formatted hard drive. I then joined my computer to a Windows Server 2003 (SP1) domain and gave my domain user account administrative privileges. 2. I then installed Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and transferred my files and settings from my old WinXPSP2 hard drive to the Vista system using the transfer wizard from the Vista DVD. 3. I then used the add printer wizard in Vista to install network printers all of which worked fine when I printed test pages. The domain installed XP drivers for the printers.4. I then took my system home, resumed from hibernation, and used the add printer wizard to install a Canon ip 5200R inkjet printer using Vista's in-box printer driver and create a standard TCP-IP port for the printer. (The printer has a static IP address on my home non-domain network). When the icon for the local Canon printer appeared in the printers window, the icons for all the network printers disappeared.5. When I returned to the office, I found that I was unable to use the add-printer wizard to add the network printers back to my system. The add printer wizard sees the network printers, but when I select a network printer I receive an error message with connect to printer at the top and the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to the network."Can somebody help me troubleshoot this?

A:Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to...

I have a network with a PC (XP) with two local printers that I could print to from my Vista Business laptop either wirelessly or on the wire.
I too experienced this problem after installing SP1 (which was a nightmare unto itself) on the laptop.
This "fix" worked for me.

Go into Control Panel
Underneath the Hardware and Sound category, click on Printer
Click on Add a printer from the top menu
Click on Add a Local Printer
Choose Create a New Port with type of port remaining Local Port, then click Next
In the Port Name box type the path to the printer you wish to connect to and Click OkEx. \\mycomputer\myprinterIf the computer you wish to connect to is named Bob and the printer is called HP then the path would be \\Bob\HP
In the Install Printer Driver
screen, select your printer from the list or choose Have Disk and find the location of the printer drivers on the computer then click Next and then click Finish.
You should now see the printer installed in the Printers window.
Right-click on the printer and click Properties
On the General tab, click Print Test Page to test the printer.
You should now (hopefully) be able to printer from Windows Vista to this networked printer without any problems.
