blue screen when unplugging usb mouse

Q: blue screen when unplugging usb mouse

I just got a dell inspiron with windows vista home premium 64bit on it. I'm finding that when i unplug my usb mouse i get a blue screen/memory dump followed by shuting down. I saw some similair threads on the forum when looking for an answer, and the answer i found was to use the 'unplug device' icon in the bottom right corner. But the problem i have with this, is there is no icon there, i click the arrow to see the rest and still not there. Do i need to turn off my laptop everytime before unplugging mouse, or did i miss something? If further information is needed just let me know

Preferred Solution: blue screen when unplugging usb mouse

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When  I unplug the power cord/charger from the computer when it is running the laptop will BlueScreen and reboot, message when this happens is Kernal_Security_Check_Failure.  Battery is fully charged and showing 100%.  The charger is outputting 19.5V DC.  I also tried another Dell charger I have and the computer does the same thing, bluescreens and reboots??  Ran Dell diagnostics on internet support and everything passes.  Drivers are up to date and it indicates devices are working properly.
Anyone had this happen and how to fix it?

Hi,

Since some days I have a problem on my computer. A BSOD appears whenever I want to remove my mouse, or uninstall its driver (I thought maybe it could help), or even disabling the mouse.

Can you help me ? I ran "DM log collector v1.3" before posting this.
Here it is : DRAGONCYBORGPC-06_03_2015_190845,58.zip

I tried everything I could think of but it doesn't seem enough to solve the problem.
By the way, my mouse is a "Saitek Cyborg R.A.T 7", bought in 2010.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

I've been dealing with this problem for a while now and just googled it but the fix I saw was for Vista 64bit and I'm not sure if it'll work for the 32bit as well.

Basically I unplug my USB mouse (I usually turn off my screen too) and within minutes my comp has blue screened. The Vista 64bit fix just said remove the update KB973879 but when I searched my updates I couldn't find that.

Thanks for any help with this

Hi,

i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/868463-startup-problem.html
but recommended solutions didn't help so far.

symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen

boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse

test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

could you please help me to find solution to this issue

Hi, I am new and really do not know a whole lot about pcs. My system will probably crash before I finish writing this. I have had problems with my mouse freezing before I installed windows 7 (from Vista 32 bit) and figured it was time to start fresh. After my 2 hour ordeal and with Microsoft tech support (windows 7 64 bit custom) problems arose. Ended up formatting again and was back on the phone with microosoft for another 2 hrs. Why would my mouse continue to freeze i thought? had to be driver, anyway I know enough to be dangerous and looking at the log feel I made it worse trying to trick antivirus programs. Hoping somone can help. I replaced mouses and keybords with know working ones and they freeze. Ive installed driver programs and spent countless hours trying various things. I think I am only making it worse. Every hour sometime several per hour I get the blue screen. I can only unlock the mouse with the escape key constantly. I am new, and hoping not to have to do another install as my restore points are corrupt or something.

A:Blue screen / freezing mouse

Check all your cooling fans and make sure everything is clean inside the computer.
I would simply wipe the drive clean, install Win7 64. It will work from an upgrade DVD although you may need proof of Vista via the key.

BTW, while BSOD and mouse freezes can be driver problems, most of the time this is a hardware issue. Something the hardware that is causing this isn't liking, like...well a driver or maybe heat, or maybe a failed or failing motherboard. Another million things come to mind but a clean install should end the mystery.

I'm not very tech savvy, so if you could explain everything in a simple way, I would appreciate it. I have windows 8.

When I close the lid of my computer, it makes the alert noise as if you unplugged a device. When I open the lid, it makes the alert noise as if you plugged in a new device. The screen takes a few seconds to turn on, and all of my windows which were open will be resized, and all of my desktop icons are rearranged.Happens every time I open or close the lid, and it's been about a week now.About two months ago, I actually sent this in to Lenovo for some repair from a drop, and they replaced just some plastic parts of the shell and the keyboard. It worked fine when I got it back, and once the screen is on, it continues to work fine. I'm mentioning this because I don't think the screen is becoming physically unplugged, it looks like it is in top shape after the repairs. Any thoughts?-Matt

Hello,
I have a pc desktop Compac Presario 5450 ( 500gig hd, 2048 mem ). Just recently I tried turning my computer on, instead of it loading the login screen, it said " loading files" with a white bar that showed progress. It then turned black with a loading green and black small bar THEN goes to a soild blue screen with a moveable pointer (mouse). No matter what I've tried it all goes back to the solid blue screen ( no codes). I can tap F8 continually and the boot menu will come up and I tried every option ( safe mode, safe mode with networking, boot from last known good configuration, etc). So I called HP and did an online diagnostics as well as performed many tests. The hardware and memory checked out good and was diagnosed (over the phone) as a " software issue and sent me a free system recovery disk but warned me to back up all my files before doing the recovery as I would lose all my data. Is there an easier way to get my computer back or do I have to back up all my files prior to trying the system recovery? Another firm said my operating system needed to be re-installed so I'm at my wits end and my entire life is on this computer. Please help!!

I purchased a used hp pavillion with windows xp..I do not have a windows xp recovery disc.
It has worked fine for some time.
I was shutting down my computer...start/shut down, turn off...all of a sudden the blue screen came up with a whole page of error writing......plus my mouse wouldn't work, nor any of the keys such as F8 that it advised me to push.

Since no keys or mouse would work, I had no alternative but to manually turn off my computer. (There is actually nothing wrong with my mouse, as I have tried it on other computers) Ever since, when I turn it on, the blue screen comes up and the mouse and keys will not respond....so I have to manually turn it off again.

Please help this novice.

Thinking it might be malware I managed to open Malwarebytes and do a quick scan (without updating- is there a way of accessing other tabs without a mouse?)
It found mostly adware but also two trojans. I got it to remove them but forgot to write down the name of the trojans. I restarted but the mouse still does not work. Can someone help and can it done with a disabled mouse?
I did check that the mouse cable was connected securely.
(there have lots of Firefox crashes in the last few months. I have updated Flash, java and my video cards drivers but they keep happening)
Thank you for any suggestions or advice.
Regards, John

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with licensed Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit).

Yesterday, it crashed and is only displaying an error message,
============
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc0000034
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information
=============

According to this document, Error message when you start Windows Vista: "The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information", I have to repair my computer.

I have three recovery disks only but not original Windows install disks.

I insert the first recovery disk. Laptop reads the disk and displays the options to choose.

It gave me two options
1. Start VAIO Recovery Center
2. Repair Windows Vista (64-bit).

I choose the default hilighted option #1.
Then it displays "Windows is loading files" message and then
a progress bar and "Microsoft Corparation".

After this nothing happens. All I see on the screen is the mouse pointer but the screen itself is blank (blue/black).

For hours and hours, nothing happens.

Are my recovery disks also bad? What options I have now to recover/repair?

600W for two 8800GT's is, well, very below par.

What did it say on the BSOD?

I've been noticing a lot of computers getting infected with some serious stuff...and all of them would hang at XP startup screen w/ solid blue and only mouse movement after that. Safe mode / Safe mode w/ networking wouldn't do much help in term of combating it. Linux boot to get rid of stuff seems no help.

ERD 2005 might help if I know what to attack.

Not BSOD.

Could someone shed light into what behind and how to deal with this?

I have a HP G62 notebook and running Windows 7 home premium. In the last few days, if I walk away from the computer for a few minutes, the screen goes blue (I assume into sleep or hibernate mode) and usually I can just move the mouse or press a key and the icons come back up but now, the keyboard and mouse do not work at that point and I have to do a hard reboot. Also, I noticed that when double clicking icons or webpages, the computer sometimes does not respond at all. Any ideas of what could be happening?

Whenever I remove the wireless mouse from the USB port, the windows crashes and I get the blue screen.

And when I restart, I get this window:

Any Help?

I've seen this in Dell systems - but it can happen in others also.

Please uninstall the KB 973879 update from your Windows Update history. This is a problem update that Microsoft has withdrawn from Windows Update - and it's currently making us extremely busy!!!

Good luck!

I have 2 two monitor set up, both are samsung Tvs, one 32" 720p and one 37" 1080p. The 37" has never looked like true hd since I got in at Christmas time, but I've fiddled with it enough to make it bearable. The issue is with my smaller screen. I recently brought my rig to a friends house, bringing only my 32" monitor. The resolution was set at 1360 X 768, which was the recommended. After booting up at my buddies, the resolution looked terrible. Games and videos are not completely unwatchable, but colours look wrong and words look either fuzzy or grainy. When I go to change the resolution, the recommended is now 1920 X 1080 (which looks really small) and all other resolutions look bad. It almost as if my pc now recognizes this tv as a 1080p which it is not.
I have a GTX 760 GPU, run Windows 8.1 and the tv in question is connected through a HDMI to DisplayPort. (Other is HDMI to HDMI)
One more note, in the NVIDIA Control Panel, the 1360 X 768 option is only available for 1080p or 1080i, 720p is only a choice for 1280 x 720p Native resolution, which again, looks terrible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a desktop running Vista. I am not sure if this is related to my current problem but wanted to make sure it was included. Awhile ago I accidentally clicked a link on myspace and got a message stating that my pc was infected and if I followed the link on the page that the problem would be fixed and that the infection could not be removed by normal AV software. I figured that I was better off closing the page and scanning the PC. I have Macfee security suite. I updated and found nothing with a scan. Everything seemed fine but user accounts other than mine the first and only administrator have a hotkey button on the bottom toolbar. It has been at least a month and one of the users opened another myspace message(I do understand the common denominator of myspace and it is taken care of) and when the pc was turned on that afternoon it booted to the blue screen which stated an error. I finally got it to boot up. My network settings were all incorrect and I could not get online. When I finally fixed it, I logged on to my myspace account certain picture were gone. There was no indication that they ever existed just what ever was behind the picture was visible. I went to my laptop and logged on and the pictures were there. So I assume it is a problem with the desktop. I booted up later on and at one point the mouse did not work. Finally I tried a couple of restore's and nothing has helped. Hi everyone, recently i installed a windows 7 alongside with windows 8. However, the booting screen is black (DOS mode), while it's blue (somewhat Metro-like i guess) for my bro. This is not really an issue but i'd like it to be blue with usable mouse.
As stated above, it's not really an issue but i'd like to find a solution for future preference. Thank you.

Hi all.

New to forum so please bare with me if I violate anything. I have an HP Pavilion ze2113us that has a formatted hard drive, new istall of XP, new heatsink and working fan, good battery, charger, tested memory and all the latest drivers. The problem is that after about 8-10 minutes, the mouse and keyboard stop working and I have to do a hard reboot only for it to happen again. It just freezes. Windows update balloon and other things still load in system tray while the mouse and keyboard do not work.

I am a computer tech but this one has me stumped. At first I thought it was over heating because I noticed that the fan did not work, so I replaced it with a working fan and heatsink. I swapped out the memory sticks, still it happens. There are no errors, blue screens, errors in event log or smell or feel of excessive heat on the bottom of case.

I would look at the touchpad and keyboard but initially they work fine. Only after 8-10 minutes do they stop working. Still seems to me like an overheating problem but the laptop should shut down or reboot when that happens. It does not.

I have not tested the hard drive but the symptoms did not warranty that. Looking for opinions and possible solutions. Any ideas would be greatly apprciated. I am at my wits end!

Thank you for your time,

Jerry

Hi,

I was referred to this forum from the HJT log forum - T-Bob said my log was clean and he didn't necessarily think my symptom was due to malware. I'm not sure I agree. My symptoms are as follows:

1) Left mouse button is practically disabled. (Only some underlined items will open; virtually nothing on desktop or in IExplorer).

2) A week ago, both MS mail clients - OE6 &Outlook were disabled (would not download e-mail from server). A couple days later, OExpress began to work again; Outlook still broke.

3) In a desperate attempt to do a Repair Install, at a point early on the infamous blue Windows "STOP error" screen launched. This screen will appear again 1) when - for whatever reason trying to boot to Windows Setup or 2) when attempting to run chkdsk /f.
Message leads off "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer ..." Then:

Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF7C79524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

4) General sluggishness in response.

I should also say that I've been running NAV and it found only "Hacktool", which - sadly - it said it could NOT remove. Worse, associated descriptive text - see URL here:

http://www.symantec.com/security_res...081707-2550-99

says "run NAV in Safe Mode and delete the threat when detected". This is useless. (Thanks NAV.)

W/ NAV disabled, AVG 8.0 was installed and run; it, too, turned up nada (squat).

To its credit, Malwar... Read more

Ok so my mother threw her laptop in front of me and there were boot up errors which included PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable and Operating System Not Found. I firstly checked the BIOS and everything seemed to be fine there and i Restored to Default and Saved. I couldn't find her Vista disk that she should of got with her laptop so i used my own (Is this a mistake?). I then selected repair and it seemed to fix a file and windows started to run.

This is where the problem starts. It would do the normal windows loading (logo, green bar etc) then on the screen "Preparing Your Desktop" for a good few mins. Then it would load up with a Blue screen with only having the ability to use the mouse. I then did Ctrl+Alt+Delete and ran the task explorer.exe. This loaded a temporary desktop which wouldn't allow me to run most programs. Now at this point i wanted to run a System Restore but there are no Restore Points avaliable....(sigh).

Then i read somewhere else that i should delete some registery files. So i lauched regedit.exe and went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/MountedDevices and deleted the files and restarted. This did not do anything and the files i deleted were restored and had to carry on from the blue screen again.

So, that's my problem and i would love some help or advice please If you need anymore information please ask.

Thanks,
Luke.

There is nothing obvious in your scan that would cause your "blue screen" problem.
Have you checked the Windows "Event Viewer" to see what program(s) is causing the problem. To view the event's log go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools and double click "event viewer" and look for error events which are denoted by a red circle with a white cross. You can double click an Item for an explanation of what went wrong.
