re-register after 6 months?

Q: re-register after 6 months?

After 6 months of using a brand new computer with Windows Xp home (SP2 fully updated) licence, i got a message about registering my product again. I did all the procedure of registrate my copy, succesfully. But when i rebooted my computer i got the same message about registration. I tried to contact microsoft but by now i dont have any answer. Do you know anything about, is it a virus?

Preferred Solution: re-register after 6 months?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?
The forums on File History do no make this very clear.

Greetings -

I have a maddening problem going on with a client's copy of Outlook 2003. She thinks it started when I got AVG, which somebody else installed, finally working (before I came automatic updates were broken due to an occasional Vista AVG installation problem). But she's not sure. The problem is that a few senders' emails show up as plain text, not HTML. Most HTML emails show up fine, including all that I and other people in her office send (as in everything I can troubleshoot myself). She thinks all the emails showing up as plain text are coming from macs. And she has an HTML signature that she wants to show up as HTML, and of course you can't force Outlook to use HTML to respond to plain text emails.

I uninstalled AVG and installed Avast today - same problem. Outlook is reading emails in Word 2003, all addins are disabled (including Avast at this point). Every link I find mentions AVG, but I uninstalled and made sure to remove all user settings and other stuff. So unless Avast causes the exact same problem, this is very annoying.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

You said: "of course you can't force Outlook to use HTML to respond to plain text emails"

Here's how I do it in Outlook2003.
Click Reply.
Click Format.
Select HTML.
Type the message and send. It works every time.

Could it be that somewhere, in AV perhaps, you have a setting to prohibit HTML?
There are many good reasons to keep HTML out of mail, so that could be it.

You mentioned something about reading mails in Word. I read'm in Outlook, but Word could be behind the scenes, I don't recall.

Have a look at the programmes here :- http://www.alwaysfreeware.co.uk/passwords.html

Hello, let me start out by saying that I purchased CounterSpy and ran a "deep scan" of my computer and it removed several spyware's and adwares, but they seem to reappear. After contacting Spyware's "tech support" I was told to download the free scanner and report the findings here - boy am I glad I spent $20 for that! First of all welcome to the forums... its a good place to get help...

Couple questions... do you have any Anti-virus software? If not I would suggest downloading either AVG or Avast! both are free and suggested by the community... Just download one, two Anti-virus programs causes issues.

Second download a couple of the spyware programs in my signature and install, update, and run them... I hate to say it but these are just as good as the one you paid $20 for. (Microsoft is my fave). Run a FULL system scan and be sure to remove ANY programs that they suggest to remove.

last... go to START --> Run and type %temp% and hit enter. Remove any items you find in the window.

There may be a couple things in your HJT log, but I will leave it up to the Guru's to point them out. But from what I see you may well need thier advice

I have an old computer and a spare Windows 7 disc. I want to install Win 7 on this computer and use it for a couple of programs only, so it will not be connected to the internet. My plan is to simply install 7 from the disc and not do any updates on it. Since it won't be connected to the internet, it doesn't need any of the updates (as far as I know).

Now my question is this: what will happen to my install of 7 if I don't register it? Will it completely stop working? If that's the case, then I guess I will have to connect it to register, and then disconnect it, but I'd rather not do that, even though it won't have to be connected for too long.

I guess I mean "activate it." Not sure what the difference is between activating windows and registering windows.

I have only been using Win 8.1 for about a month and I notice that every day or so I get the following 1008 Event viewer error:

The Open Procedure for service ".NETFramework" in DLL "C:\windows\system32\mscoree.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Would it hurt anything to try to re-register this .dll to see if that would stop the error? If it would be worth a try are the following two commands correct: toun-register ... regsvr32 /u mscoree.dll and then to register :
regsvr32 mscoree.dll

Thanks and regards,

A:do i need to register?

Chances are you bought these computers preloaded from some manufacturer like DELL or Hewlett Packard. These are automatically registered and will automatically re-register if you restore the computer from the restore disks that came with the machines.

The only time you need to register is if you install windows from a windows cd and it asks you to. If it doesn't ask you to register don't worry about it.

What would happen if I don't register it? Need help or info on this subject in case windows shuts down on its own soon. Replaced hard drive a wk. ago.

It's Activation of Windows that allows you to get updates etc etc. Click on the "balloon" and there should be an option not to register. You don't have to register Windows but you have to activate Windows.

IF SD found a registry key related to a malware threat its probably an orphaned entry that sometimes remains after the physical files are removed. When malware installs itself, it often creates registry keys in various locations especially in the Start up run areas. That way it can load itself when Windows boots. You can allow SD to remove the entry if you have already not done so.

Hi all,
I don't know whether this is a Windows question or an iTunes question but I figured I'd start here. I'm installing iTunes software from a CD on a Windows XP Home machine (a friend's laptop) and as it was installing, I got an error message that reads "Error 1904. Module C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll failed to register. HRESULT - 2147220473."

I tried to register the dll by going to Start/Run and typing Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll" but I get the error message "LoadLibrary(C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll) failed - A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed." I searched for the dll on the CD, but it's not there. I tried ignoring it, but iTunes won't detect the iPod and I can't transfer songs to it.

I was able to successfully install the software on my own Windows XP Pro machine with no problem. It detects the iPod, transfers the music, no issues. But I don't want to be stuck transferring music for my friend. Help? Thanks!

It seems that for what ever reason I do not have the correct permissions to register ActiveX controls or dll,s this has come to light when trying to install Flash8.ocx and also Microsoft Anti Spyware.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2 I am also logged on as an administrator I have tried numerous options to get this corrected as follows:

1. Checked permissions on main reg keys (regedit32).
2. "regsvr32" tried to register files but fails, with the following message:
Dll ReigisterServer in Flash8.ocx failed return code was: 0x0070005
3. Checked for Spyware/Adaware
4. Used "Dependency Walker V21_x86" to indentify process against Flash8.ocx
which did show up some missing dll namely MSJAVA.DLL and EFSSADU.DLL these I replaced but on the next run it showed that MPR.DLL had an error and came up with the following message:

“Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.”
At this stage I could go no further as I do not have a clue on the repair (MPR.DLL) as this dll is in place and the correct version.

Microsoft AntiSpyware started to install but quit as to many errors trying to register dll's

As you can see this is a problem beyond me, can anybody help (please)

A:Register Windows Xp

It will shut down XP if you do not Activate Windows XP.Registering by using a name or address is optional but you must activate the system within 30 days.Activation is required in 30 days from the first day that you start Windows XP. If you want to activate Windows on a day that is later than the day that you install it, a Windows Activation icon appears in the notification area. This icon periodically displays notifications to remind you about how much time remains before you must activate. After the 30 days has expired, you must activate Windows to continue using Windows. During activation, you can also register your copy of Windows. Product activation is different from product registration because activation is required and registration is optional. If you want to register Windows XP by providing your name, e-mail address, and other contact information, you can also choose to receive information about product updates and other special offers.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890/

Hi Guys

I've just done a clean install and rather the installing the Adobe Thumbnail fix from here - Fixes for 64-bit Adobe Reader preview handler and thumbnails I was going to use the manual method described below but cannot seem to get any of them registered.

There should be three files:
Copy all three to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Reader 64-bit fixes
You may use a different location if you wish, but it must be visible to 32-bit code.
In particular, do NOT use "C:\Program Files".
You then need to register the three files. Register the EXE first:
Thumbridge.exe /regserver
Then register the two DLLs:
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge32.dll
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge64.dll

Can anyone help me with the exact commands to register the 3 files using the location above.

Many thanks

A:How to register .dll and .exe files

You need to run these commands from an Elevated Command Prompt.

Click on the Start orb, type cmd then right click on cmd.exe at the top and select Run as Administrator.

The commands seem to be listed in your post, type them exactly as shown, or cut and paste.

Thumbridge.exe /regserver

Then register the two DLLs:
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge32.dll
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge64.dll

I'd leave off the /s so you will see the info window open when you run the command.

Edit: Forgot to mention, you need to run these from the directory you placed the files in, so you need to do a:

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Reader 64-bit fixes"

then run the commands.

I can't register my copy of windows because it says i've used the serial number too many times. the only reason i've used it so many times is because i've had to reformat a lot. what happens if i don't register and what should i do about it?

A:what happens if i don't register windows xp?

It just says on the microsoft site that you need to activate to keep using it. I believe that it will not let you do anything other than looking at your blank desktop once the 30 days are up without activating it.

Just call up microsoft and tell them your hard drive crashed or upgraded your motherboard and they'll give you a new one.

I am currently trying to register the dll in Vista.

regsvr32 xxx.dll

But it return error-

The module "xxx.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code

Do you have any idea about it?

Thank You.

A:Register a dll in Vista

Hi Yani,

I take it that you are doing this from a command prompt. This error is given when the command prompt environment does not have the necessary privileges. Try the same executing the command under an Elevated Command Prompt

I'm new here, and I'm also new to Vista. I've got the Home Premium 64-bit edition and I need to enter a registration key for my password manager. Unfortunately this version of Vista doesn't allow me to do a merge, although I did find a way to have a look at the registry itself yesterday. Is there a way around this? I'd really like to get this registered and be able to use my password manager.

Thanks for any help you can give.

A:Vista need to register a key

I found out that the problem with my password manager key was nothing to do with Vista, as I had thought. Instead it was caused by a software key that had become corrupted, so my message above can be ignored.

I've been using Vegas for about two years now and it hasn't given me any trouble, until now. Whenever I open an MP3 file or try to render as an MP3 file, it says that I need to register Sony MP3 plugin 2.0. This has never happened before, I downloaded something that says I need to give it my computer ID before it will give me my activation code.

I've already paid for everything including mp3 support and Sony won't respond to my requests for help. I guess I really need to know how to find my computer ID.

so i think i determined that MS_WEBCHECKMONITOR (webcheck.dll) is consuming tons of resources....found this link about disabling it http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/22...ebcheckmonitor

however, i tried to run "regsvr32 /u WEBCHECK.dll" from c:\windows\system32, and got the error "WEBCHECK.dll was laoded, but the DllUnregesterServer entry point was not found. this file can not be registered"

i've tried searching microsoft and the web to download webcheck.dll, but the only versions i found are for NT, 2000, vista, or XP russian.

if it makes any dif, i checked the file properties of my webcheck.dll in windows\system32, and the file version is 7.00.60000.16544(vista_gdr.070814-1500)
