Preferred Solution: re-register after 6 months?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?
The forums on File History do no make this very clear.

Greetings -

I have a maddening problem going on with a client's copy of Outlook 2003. She thinks it started when I got AVG, which somebody else installed, finally working (before I came automatic updates were broken due to an occasional Vista AVG installation problem). But she's not sure. The problem is that a few senders' emails show up as plain text, not HTML. Most HTML emails show up fine, including all that I and other people in her office send (as in everything I can troubleshoot myself). She thinks all the emails showing up as plain text are coming from macs. And she has an HTML signature that she wants to show up as HTML, and of course you can't force Outlook to use HTML to respond to plain text emails.

I uninstalled AVG and installed Avast today - same problem. Outlook is reading emails in Word 2003, all addins are disabled (including Avast at this point). Every link I find mentions AVG, but I uninstalled and made sure to remove all user settings and other stuff. So unless Avast causes the exact same problem, this is very annoying.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You said: "of course you can't force Outlook to use HTML to respond to plain text emails"

Really?
Here's how I do it in Outlook2003.
Click Reply.
Click Format.
Select HTML.
Type the message and send. It works every time.

Could it be that somewhere, in AV perhaps, you have a setting to prohibit HTML?
There are many good reasons to keep HTML out of mail, so that could be it.

You mentioned something about reading mails in Word. I read'm in Outlook, but Word could be behind the scenes, I don't recall.

I have an old computer and a spare Windows 7 disc. I want to install Win 7 on this computer and use it for a couple of programs only, so it will not be connected to the internet. My plan is to simply install 7 from the disc and not do any updates on it. Since it won't be connected to the internet, it doesn't need any of the updates (as far as I know).

Now my question is this: what will happen to my install of 7 if I don't register it? Will it completely stop working? If that's the case, then I guess I will have to connect it to register, and then disconnect it, but I'd rather not do that, even though it won't have to be connected for too long.

EDIT:
I guess I mean "activate it." Not sure what the difference is between activating windows and registering windows.

A:do i need to register?

Chances are you bought these computers preloaded from some manufacturer like DELL or Hewlett Packard. These are automatically registered and will automatically re-register if you restore the computer from the restore disks that came with the machines.

The only time you need to register is if you install windows from a windows cd and it asks you to. If it doesn't ask you to register don't worry about it.

Hi,

I have only been using Win 8.1 for about a month and I notice that every day or so I get the following 1008 Event viewer error:

The Open Procedure for service ".NETFramework" in DLL "C:\windows\system32\mscoree.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Would it hurt anything to try to re-register this .dll to see if that would stop the error? If it would be worth a try are the following two commands correct: toun-register ... regsvr32 /u mscoree.dll and then to register :
regsvr32 mscoree.dll

Thanks and regards,

First of all welcome to the forums... its a good place to get help...

Couple questions... do you have any Anti-virus software? If not I would suggest downloading either AVG or Avast! both are free and suggested by the community... Just download one, two Anti-virus programs causes issues.

Second download a couple of the spyware programs in my signature and install, update, and run them... I hate to say it but these are just as good as the one you paid $20 for. (Microsoft is my fave). Run a FULL system scan and be sure to remove ANY programs that they suggest to remove.

last... go to START --> Run and type %temp% and hit enter. Remove any items you find in the window.

There may be a couple things in your HJT log, but I will leave it up to the Guru's to point them out. But from what I see you may well need thier advice

Never did it before, and have no idea how to register or what I need. I thought that you could not update windows if it was not registered. Why didn't they register it when they had it put on? What would happen if I don't register it? Need help or info on this subject in case windows shuts down on its own soon. Replaced hard drive a wk. ago.

It's Activation of Windows that allows you to get updates etc etc. Click on the "balloon" and there should be an option not to register. You don't have to register Windows but you have to activate Windows.

Hi Guys

I've just done a clean install and rather the installing the Adobe Thumbnail fix from here - Fixes for 64-bit Adobe Reader preview handler and thumbnails I was going to use the manual method described below but cannot seem to get any of them registered.

Quote:
There should be three files:
Thumbridge.exe
Thumbridge32.dll
Thumbridge64.dll
Copy all three to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Reader 64-bit fixes
You may use a different location if you wish, but it must be visible to 32-bit code.
In particular, do NOT use "C:\Program Files".
You then need to register the three files. Register the EXE first:
Thumbridge.exe /regserver
Then register the two DLLs:
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge32.dll
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge64.dll

Can anyone help me with the exact commands to register the 3 files using the location above.

Many thanks

Danny

A:How to register .dll and .exe files

You need to run these commands from an Elevated Command Prompt.

Click on the Start orb, type cmd then right click on cmd.exe at the top and select Run as Administrator.

The commands seem to be listed in your post, type them exactly as shown, or cut and paste.

Thumbridge.exe /regserver

Then register the two DLLs:
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge32.dll
regsvr32.exe /s Thumbridge64.dll

I'd leave off the /s so you will see the info window open when you run the command.

Edit: Forgot to mention, you need to run these from the directory you placed the files in, so you need to do a:

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Reader 64-bit fixes"

then run the commands.

It just says on the microsoft site that you need to activate to keep using it. I believe that it will not let you do anything other than looking at your blank desktop once the 30 days are up without activating it.

Just call up microsoft and tell them your hard drive crashed or upgraded your motherboard and they'll give you a new one.

My old computer crashed.
I had XP pro and Photoshop CS2.
I am an avid user in photoimaging.
I bult a new computer and installed Windows 7.
Installed CS2 and it worked fine, for about a week.
Then I opened it to find it asking me to register again and all the menus had been reset to default.
I filled in the first registration box.
It came back saying I am now registered.
Reset all my menus and presets, shortcuts, worked a bit then closed.
Now everytime I open CS2 it give me the same registration box, but doesn't ask for the number.
Menus are fine, just the registration box popps up.
I can click on NEVER REGISTER, but it still ask me to register every time I open CS2.
Adobe says they dont support CS2 and says it is not compatable with Win7. To buy CS5.
Works fine for me in XP mode, just that stupid register message popping up everytime I open it.
Thanx in advance.
Suggestions?

It seems that for what ever reason I do not have the correct permissions to register ActiveX controls or dll,s this has come to light when trying to install Flash8.ocx and also Microsoft Anti Spyware.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2 I am also logged on as an administrator I have tried numerous options to get this corrected as follows:

1. Checked permissions on main reg keys (regedit32).
2. "regsvr32" tried to register files but fails, with the following message:
Dll ReigisterServer in Flash8.ocx failed return code was: 0x0070005
3. Checked for Spyware/Adaware
4. Used "Dependency Walker V21_x86" to indentify process against Flash8.ocx
which did show up some missing dll namely MSJAVA.DLL and EFSSADU.DLL these I replaced but on the next run it showed that MPR.DLL had an error and came up with the following message:

“Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.”
At this stage I could go no further as I do not have a clue on the repair (MPR.DLL) as this dll is in place and the correct version.

Microsoft AntiSpyware started to install but quit as to many errors trying to register dll's

As you can see this is a problem beyond me, can anybody help (please)

If that is a direct copy and paste then there is no backslash between C:\Windows and SysWow64. Take another look. Your mind expects it and so is filling it in.

I purchased a new RAM module for my PC the other day and it will not register in the PC.

The PC is an ARIES 5100 PRO MK2. It has a 512MB DDR SDRAM PC3200 module installed already and the new module that I have purchased is the same. I am aware of pairing the modules and both modules work when used on their own (in any of the 4 slots) but as soon as you put both modules in, and in whatever slots, it won't register both modules.

This is really strange, the only ideas that i have come up with are that the on board graphics card is using a part of one module thus making it less than 512MB and so not pairing up with the second 512MB module. Also, can you pair DDR with DDR2? If not, what happens if you put them together?

When it is booting up with both modules in, the memory test only goes up to 490MB (the rest is being used by the on board graphics card) and it says single channel!? Is there a bios setting somewhere that tells it only to use single channel or restricts the amount of RAM that the pc can use? The pc doesn't complain that there is a fault, it seems that it is literally ignoring the extra RAM!

Thanks in advanced!

I used to be able to play DVDs in my computer. Then for a long time I didn't use the comp for DVDs. And now I want to watch movies on my comp all the time... but the DVD-RW drive doesn't register my DVDs. CDs work fine, and if I go to My Computer, the the DVD-RW drive icon is there, but when I open it, it's empty. And Windows Media and no other media player will register that I have a DVD in.

The DVDs I put in are originals, and I've even tried to play DVDs that I know I've played on the computer before, and it still doesn't work. I've googled already for people who have the same problem and tried some solutions that didn't work, such as a downloaded fixer and copying something in notepad that did something to my registry?? I tried a Windows troubleshoot and it says I may need a new decoder?

I think somewhere in that long gap where I didn't play DVDs, I might of wiped my OS and reinstalled Windows, so maybe I wiped some decoder I need? But it's near impossible to find a decoder I don't have to pay for, and I shouldn't have to pay for a new one. I really don't feel like calling Dell Tech Support... So any suggestions? Talk in baby terms and give direction step-by-step please. Thank you.

Hi peeps,

it's really ironic that after helping much people you are experiencing a problem

So this is my problem:

- I need to register to AlertPay
- I got to www.alertpay.com
- I click the button to "sing up"
- On the first page where I just need select my country and which type of an account I want I select everything right how it needs to be
- I click the next button and Firefox hangs at "Sending request to www.alertpay.com ..." (that writes in the bottom of the screen)
- After a while Firefox display an error saying: "Connection Interrupted. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again."

I would be very thankful if someone helps me with this!

Thnx for reading!

Looking forward, Smartguy01

Hi there. Have been trying to install a network printer, Konica-Minolta MC5430DL under Windows 8, 64bit. The setup starts, but asks for a file MSCOMCTL.OCX. After looking up this problem online, I find conflicting reports about it having to be in SYSWOW64. Others say in System32. Either way, the system refuses to register it, giving me the same error message in both cases. 'May not be compatible with the version... check to see if compatible with x86 or x64, etc. etc.' Any ideas? This is a network printer, and I didn't run into these problems installing it on a machine running Windows 7 64bit. Thanks in advance for any help.

A:cannot register MSCOMCTL.OCX

Did you open an elevated command prompt in the SysWow64 directory and have the ocx in that same directory? If so and it still did not work check your path starts with .(dot) so that the current directory is searched first. Or type in the full path to both regsvr32.exe and the ocx file.

That's the only thing that occurs to me at the moment. Unless the ocx is 16 bit. If so it won't run except maybe in DosBox.

I have tried many times registering on sQusi, but keep getting an error message that says there was a problem communicating with the server. It's been two days. Could their server be down? I'm unable to find a "contact us" link. Ideas? Thanks. pianojoe
