Solved: Windows XP SP1-Memory in-driver not working-freezing-black screen-Please help me?

Q: Solved: Windows XP SP1-Memory in-driver not working-freezing-black screen-Please help me?

I put new memory into a friends computer. She has an HP Pavilion 511w. It came with 128 MB and can hold up to 512. I got the right memory because even the company I bought it from says it is right oemworld. I put in 2 sticks of 256. No problems putting it in and the computer recognizes it because it shows 512 now. Here is the problem.

When I started the computer back up everything was fine then an error message came up saying I needed to update the video driver I assumed because of more memory and as far as I no she had never updated it and it is at least 4 years old. I first went to the HP Site and looked under her computer the 511w and it had a driver update there for a Intel Extreme Graphics Driver update 02/2005 version 6.14.10.3943 6.36MB, the one in her computer matched that except for the extreme part so I downloaded it and thought that was it. It worked ok for a while then started freezing up and the monitor would go to a black screen. I got looking and hers was an 810E (I think I remember that?s what it was) anyway I went to the Intel site and found the driver that should have been put in it was for the 810E chip set. I have an extra computer here at home that is also the 511w so I downloaded that driver into mine and everything works fine. Anyway I went to her place and was going to roll back the extreme driver I had put in and then put the one in from Intel. I went into device driver and open the adapter and double clicked on it and went to the driver and clicked on roll back and it came up and said there was no backup. Why I don?t know. So I went ahead and downloaded the Intel driver into her computer and the little graphics icon appeared in her tray area just like on mine and I thought everything was solved. I played around on her computer, went into some games she plays on pogo and everything seemed to work fine so I thought I had it.

Then I was walking the dogs today and she hollered at me and said it froze again last night. The mouse pointer quits working and the screen freezes and the after a little while the screen would go black. She was into her e-mail when this happened. I think maybe the extreme driver I had put in first needs to be deleted out of there and maybe that would make it alright. I didn?t uninstall it the last time before I put the Intel driver in cause I didn?t no how I should go about it. If I uninstall it then the video card wouldn?t work so the monitor would nt work so I would I have put the Intel driver in them? Anyway I need some help here bad, she thought she was going to be so happy with the extra ram and should have been but not it?s a problem and she is getting upset . Can you Help me??Please

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys. I've searched over the forums for a similar problem and I've found that people say to boot in safe mode. The problem with that, however, is that I only get a black screen when I start up and don't know how I would boot in safe mode. This started after I updated the display driver. Reformatting would not be an issue if someone could explain how to do it without being able to see. Thanks.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

Booting into Safe Mode is done during the initial boot stage by pressing a key (as per your manual) - are you not seeing ANYTHING during boot (the Bios screen)?

Firstly, I am a bit of a computerphobe, and will be lost on any major technical terms, so please bear with me...

I have a samsung R700 laptop, which decided this morning to die.

I had downloaded some films last night (which I have done many times with no problems previously), switched off the laptop (which rarely do - prefering instead to hibernate.)

When I switched it back on this morning, windows was carrying out about a million updates.

After around 10 minutes, the screen came on, and everything looked normal. I tried to open a document, but the laptop screen froze, and although the curser was there and moving, I was unable to close or open any other pages/applications.

After restarting a few times and having the same thing happen, I started in safemode, restored it back to last month, and tried again. In safemode I can scan (have used 3 virus scanners which have been reccomended) but all results are clear. I can access the internet and all of my documents.

Restarted the machine after an hour switched off, and when booting up in normal mode, the home screen is just black. There is a white cursor which moves, but no taskbar or icons etc. Safe mode is still functional.

Any advice would be greatly received
Thanks in advance

Hi there. Recently my computer has been crashing an awful lot. I am just doing a task and, usually if it does, it will cut to black. The computer doesn't make any noise and I have to restart it. Sometimes it will freeze on the screen, once it actually cut to a completely white screen.

I always thought this was because I was using Google Chrome, it always seemed to be whilst that was loaded. However now its happening without that. Also, Firefox has become completely disabled, I click on the icon and nothing happens.

So, I have no idea why this is happening! It's very worrying as I am starting a new year at college next week. I have run several anti-virus checks, SpyBot checks, that sort of thing.

Please help! You might just save my life :/

Another problem is a small one I felt like adding, is that the Windows 7 screen where it is loading up your computer, doesn't show for me. This is not a problem where other users could not log on. All mine does is have a black screen, then loads to my desktop. So it works fine, just that the screen doesn't show. Please help.

This has been an issue that's eluded me for sometime. I'm not sure what caused it to start, but this is something that bothers me. It would be up to 1-2 hours before my computer will start freezing. Once this happens, it seems me processor skyrockets up to 70-80% and then freezing every 1-2 minutes before black screening.

This error was found in Application of Event Viewer:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. I'm not sure if this error is directly related to my issue, but I was posting as much information for you guys to work with.

Hi!  I do have trouble with a Lenovo Flex 2-14 (Model 20404).The Lenovo turns on, shows the Levono Boot screen and finishes with a black screen.  - I am able to enter the Bios (working screen)- I am able to run the internal recovery with a working screen - after recovery and a new boot up - the screens gets black again  How is that possible? I am not able to boot from a usb-stick (with working Linux or Windows installation - tested on other systems) cause I get a black screen (the USB is being recognized).  So... what are the next steps? This seems wierd, since the screen itself seems to work. I found some forum-topics saying it is a GPU-failure. Maybe thats the case?  I would appreciate any support!

Hey guys somebody recommended this site for me to ask about my problem. Anyway I have a problem with some games like GTA 5, Watch dogs, CS : GO in which "audiodg.exe" process continues to use more RAM after I start one of those games. This only happens when I play these games. I saw a bunch of other threads that said mainly update your drivers and check the enhancements issue. I originally installed my audio driver using Driver pack solution Ver. 14.9. But after seeing these threads I tried updating my audio driver. I tried downloading it from the official site and from a bunch of others but each time I do so and restart Windows just freezes at login screen and then I have to boot into safe mode and use system restore to remove the new driver. Right now my audio is working but I don't have the enhancements option at all. Sorry if I got any grammatical / spelling mistakes english isn't my language. Hello and welcome Chuck now can I make a very simple suggestion that you get a dedicated sound card? I run the Asus Xonar DG in all my desktops and have never had a problem and they are really cheap.
The GUI for the sound is just fabulous (or I think it is) for mixing and generating difference effects and if you are into gaming or music (like me - music) you will find the Xonar the real deal.

The other stuff you have ben trying to get rid of I am not quite sure what it is you are doing. The after market fix things I don't like that Driver pack solution as I have found they create more problems as sometimes than they solve.

Anyway take a look at this https://www.asus.com/au/Sound_Cards/Xonar_DG/ by the ay I run 5:1 systems off mine my favourite being the Logitec Z506 Surround Sound Speakers Z506 again not expensive at all and the sound quality really good.

Hi! I'm extremely computer illiterate, so please have patience with me! ><

I've been having a repetitive and troubling problem with Windows 7 when signing in to any of the user accounts on my PC.

Said problem seems to occur at varying levels, so I'll just put them down in point form to try and avoid confusion:

1) The desktop (and icons) show up completely black, and the task bar/start menu (everything, save the mouse, really) freezes, forcing me to hard boot.

2) EVERYTHING on the desktop, save for the start icon, shows up black, and the start button is frozen. Once again, the mouse remains active, but I'm forced to hard boot.

3) The desktop, icons, task bar and start icon all show up fine, but my PC suddenly freezes, forcing me to hard boot yet again. Once again, the mouse remains active.

I would really, really like to solve this problem without having to reinstall the operating system. I've already reinstalled it once, and I don't want to reinstall Microsoft Office, my security programs, photoshop, etc... all over again. Microsoft Office in particular, as I'd have to buy it all over again. ><

At the same time, I hate hard booting my PC. I've heard it's not good to shut down your computer that way, but I literally have no choice when this problem arises, and it's frustrating.

Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated. I'll try and provide more information, if needed.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, For ages, I've been having these issues of my laptop constantly freezing, crashing, programs not responding, etc. Well, I've finally decided to do something about it. SPECS:Device: HP Pavilion m6Windows 7 x64AMD A10-4600M Processor APU with Radeon 2.29GHzRAM: 6GBAvailable space on the C: drive: 330GB The current problem: Windows will not start in normal mode. Hi,

Looks like I'm back with another laptop problem, after my BSOD situation (here:BSOD Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal.

Just now when i tried to start up my laptop I got a blackscreen saying
"Windows failed to restart, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause" and it gives me the options to either "Launch start up repair(recommended) or Start Windows normally". I haven't updated or changed my hardware or software, and there was no disruption to my power supply so I'm not sure of the cause.

I tried the "launch start up repair" option but it just leads to a black screen with cursor. My mouse cursor works using my laptop but when i connect my usb mouse the light on my optical mouse lights up but the mouse cursor doesnt move on screen.

I have no idea whats going on, I just hope this isnt malware related again...any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi Guys

I have a problem that I cant seem to solve I have tried everything that I have found online to solve this problem. Right after I install the latest Nvidia Drivers for my laptop my screen goes BLACK after the windows logo when I reboot.

My Specs:
Windows 10 Home 64Bit (Fresh/Clean Installation)
Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-572G)

Things that I have tried already without any success:

Install older versions of the driver
Download drivers from different websites
I dont seem to get the cursor that some people are talking about
Cant log in or access anything with my black screen (Blind login)
I install windows 8.1 64bit but still same problem so im back to windows 10
Pressed the windows+P button to change to primary screen ( Or ctrl+P) but no change
Plugged in a different monitor (VGA and HDMI) still nothing
Installed the drivers in a lower resolution

After doing all this still no success

I dont know if this could have anything to do with this but I was busy playing a game before this problem started and in the middle of the game the graphics card driver crashed multiple times with a pop up that said something about your nvidia driver xxxxxxx has stopped working then my laptop froze. Hi there

Already tried this, btw:
Black screen after installing graphics drivers

I've pretty much done everything I've found. I have a custom built desktop from like three and a half years ago or so:

MOBO: Intel DH55HC
CPU: Intel Core i5 650 3.19-3.45 GHz
GPU: GeForce GT 610 1 GB
RAM: 4 GB 1066 MHz
HDD: WDC 200 GB SATA
TOSHIBA 1 TB SATA

I have Ubuntu installed in the 200 GB drive since quite a long time, there I have my proper nVIDIA drivers installed and working with no problem, yesterday I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a 285 GB (or so) partition on the TOSHIBA drive, after initial setup I installed the Network drivers, no problem, YET. Then, already having internet access, I installed Google Chrome, no big deal, later I proceeded to get the latest Recommended/Certified nVIDIA Driver (376.33) from geforce.com for my GPU, everything's ok, not a single problem yet, I restart the machine and after the "Starting Windows" screen, it goes to black. In the link I added above to another thread on these forums I read that it's due to some parts of the GPU are burnt out, so they don't work with OpenGL and any other related stuff. Though this didn't make sense to me because it's working flawlessly on Ubuntu (also the GRUB is ok, if you're wondering) I did a clean uninstallation of nVIDIA drivers (through safe mode, as I can't see nothing in normal mode) and image is back. I reinstalled, and again the same issue. I even properly removed the GPU... Read more

Windows 7 Home, SP1. Black Screen with Moveable Cursor followed by driver issues with mouse.

My diablo3 account got hacked about a week ago. Following that, I reinstalled Malware bytes, ad-aware, and spybot and did full scans/immunizations with each. I think I had one hit with spybot in my cookies? Nothing like a keylogger.

A few days later, after my first reboot to install a flash update or something, I got the Black Screen with cursor after bootup. It actually took a really long time to go black - there was a lot going on. A couple updates were downloading/installing, but then after like 5 minutes of non-responsive explorer (couldn't open start menu) it went to Black Screen with cursor. Happened again upon reboot.

Booted to safe mode with networking, found a forum post that mentioned something about dll access permissions. I loaded up that section, fixed my administrator permissions to all. It did some things, but threw errors for C:\windows\system32 and C:\program files(x86), if I remember correctly.

Tried rebooting normally, it worked. Couple days later, automatic windows update rebooted my computer, and my mouse (razer) stopped working. I believe this is a driver issue, as I had the same problem when I first installed the mouse. The buttons work fine but it doesn't pick up the movement.

I'm worried I haven't fixed the issue completely, and I'm not entirely sure where it came from in the first place.

It should be noted that I don... Read more

I'm having a problem where it says "Display driver stopped working and has recovered".  I see where several others have posted about this, but I'm unable to locate a fix here or reply to other similar posts for some strange reason.  I have a 4 month old Inspiron 15 5559 laptop runing Windows 10 Home x64. The problem occurs intermittently  when I go to the tomshardware.com forums.  It occurs most often with Firefox (version 45.0.1) but it also happens with IE11.  It happens usually after I post a note there, then click the back arrow a couple of times to go back to the listing of all the posts.
According to Device Manager, I have version 20.19.15.4300.  When I tell it to scan for an updated version, it says I already have the most current driver for the Intel HD graphics 520.
Please advise how I can get rid of this problem.  Thank you.

A:Inspiron 5559 "Display driver stopped working & has recovered" leaving black screen. Win 10.

I have the same issue with Inspiron 7559. But, not just in web browsing. It happens in Word, Peachtree, etc. So, my thoughts are the problem is a Windows 10 display driver issue, which should be fixed by a driver update provided by the manufacturer. I did a system scan on Dell Support Assistant (thy actually are run every week) and my system has the latest drivers, according the DSA. Get on the stick, Dell. Interesting thing is, it doesn't show up in the System Events in the Dell Support Assistant software - not even as an "info" point. It's like Dell is ignoring the Windows error.

Good Evening,

I need help please. My home PC was attacked by the vundo virus over the weekend. With the help of someone at geekstogo.com, it was deemed cleaned.

McAfee ran this morning on schedule. When I left it was at 90% with nothing detected. I returned after 3 hours, opened webmail to dump unwanted mail and clear spam folder. I exited webmail and attempted to open MS Outlook. McAfee asked if I wanted to allow a change to registry for Outlook and I responded to block change. I At the same time, I got error message that I did not have permission to open the application. That didn't seem right so I decided to run Malawarebytes(trying to run it at least once a day). McAfee asked if I wanted to allow Malawarebytes to run and I allowed it. While running Malawarebytes, McAfee displahyed that it had discovered and quarantined Artemis "something". Malawarebytes finished runnning but reported no detections.

I attempted to open Outlook again and received the same error message. I then restarted the computer using Start/Shutdown/Restart. Just as the system shutdown, I heard the Windows error sound again. When the system restarted, there was a black screen and the cursor. I then attempted to start in Safe Mode and now have safe mode with the black screen. I have tried Safe Mode in Command Line, Safe Mode with Last Known Good Configuration. None of these worked. I think this was virus related and now I can't get windows to boot at all.

I was able to get the screen back but this time the brightness was full and I couldn't change the level of it. I did some search about this issue and then I manually update the display adapter (Intel HD Graphics 520) from the device manager. After this update the screen went off again!
I then tried to reinstall windows again and I connect my laptop to HDMI port. I was able to view everyhing in the extended screen but when I project to the PC screen I don't get anything.

I disabled the Intel HD Graphics 520 driver and by doing so I was able to see the screen back in PC. So it seems it's a driver issue. I tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again with the lateset version (Version 21.20.16.4505) but when I enable it the screen goes black again.

Now the display adapter is disabled and I can't change anything in the screen settings or control the brightness. What is the solution?
Also the screen goes black while browsing some sites with malicious content.Yesterday was going through a site
 I encountered black screen.
What is the solution?

Hi guys,

Just recently, when I was playing a game, the display on my laptop suddenly black out and there were some lines. I manually power it down by holding the power button. When I on it again, the cursors and the images were haywire. Subsequently, whenever I on my laptop I will see the windows logo and after that the desktop never loads. I only see a black screen with my cursor. At the moment, the only way for me to bootup normally into Windows is to disable my AMD Radeon HD6970M adapter and use the standard VGA adapter. I tried many things but I am still unable to fix the problem. I still cannot use my AMD Radeon graphics adapter. I took the following steps

1) I perform chkdsk /f
2) I installed the latest AMD display drivers from their website
3) I updated the drivers from device manager (2011 drivers)
4) I did a startup repair, but no problems was found
5) I used windows memtest but no errors were discovered
6) I formatted my windows partition, reinstall windows 7 and reinstalled all the drivers from my PC (Samsung) manufacturer software and drivers disc.
7) I used windows update and update everything
8) I tried the fix it registry as per microsoft website
9) I press F8 and used last known good configuration settings

Is my graphic card faulty?

Thanks

A:Black screen with cursor after windows logo, GPU driver problems

Boot into Safe Mode with networking to see if the problem persists there.

Safe Mode uses a limited number of drivers and applications.  One of the driver is a graphics driver.  If Windows boots to the desktop it most likely is the graphics driver.

What is the make and model of this laptop?

I have this problem:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

The driver could not be loaded because a previous version of the driver is still in memory.

and now I am not able to connect any usb device to my laptop making it virtually impossible to use windows 10.
How do I downgrade to windows 7,have enough of the beta testing.
I even have a purchased version of windows 10 pro which I really regret buying, worst investment ever.

Dear All,I upgraded graphics card on my Dell XPS studio 8100 from NVidia Geforce 240 (which came with the machine) to a more powerful ASUS Turbo GeForce® GTX 960.
At first all worked fine. However, recently I had to completely reinstall Windows on my machine due to a major crash (Barracuda HDD  totally gave way....). I purchased a new HDD, obtained a Win 7 installation disk from Dell, and was able to restore my system. I am still unable to make the GeForce GTX 960 work, however. It works with Standard Windows driver, but any version of NVidia driver that I try to install causes the black screen during Windows boot (right after presenting Windows logo).  The system does boot in safe mode, and rollback of the Video driver restores status quo.
I googled the problem, and most people connect it with an on-board Intel graphics adapter not being properly disabled and causing conflict with the Asus graphics card. I checked the Windows Device Manager, and BIOS Advanced settings, but none of them shows an on-board graphics card installed (and as far as I know, I never ordered one with my system, so it makes sense). This means the pro problem must lie elsewhere.
Would be very grateful for your help
Thank you very much in advance,
Dmitry

Hi guys at seven forum again, I am using an ASUS laptop running Windows 7 premium 64. After a virus scan with MBAM and removal of infected files, windows will not load correctly. After windows logo appears, the screen goes black and after i while i can hear the desktop load, but the screen is totally black. Ive been able to boot into safe mode, but i am unable to access device manager (related files may have been removed by mistake with MBAM) to check drivers. I also dont have a back up, or a restore point . Any ideas from the guru's here at sevenforum? All help and responses appreciated. thx.

I was reading a cooking blog last night and my laptop froze. Eventually the error message popped up, Windows Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Now just a black screen.

I've tried:

Starting in safe mode - get the same Windows Explorer has stopped working message and goes straight to black screen.

Startup Repair - The instruction at 0x74234706 referenced memory at 0x74234706. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc000009c.

Last know configuration from F8 - System restore failed due to an unspecified error. The file exists. (0x80070050)

sfc/scannow - Windows resource protection could not start the repair service.

What else can I try? Thanks.

Hi, I am having several problems with my computer, wondering if I am infected with something? First noticed the computer running slowly. Then began freezing all the time. Then noticed that when I switch to a new internet page at times I notice a small black screen that will pop-up or flash on the page, but only for a second...almost like you'd get on a "run command" type scrren, if that makes sense. Also, I keep getting a security options failure. It seems this only comes after the computer freezes and I try to hit alt, control, delete to bring up task manager. I have tried to run Norton Anti-virus and spybot. I've used CCleaner to remove unnecessary files/clean. The virus software finds nothing unusual (usually some cookies with tracking, but no virus. HI,
I was being helped by Quads on the norton community. I know he helps out here too. Quads was helping me but I screwed up, thought I was helping to save time(yes, I know I saved you alot of time now) but I did not follow complete instructions.

This is what was done so far

OTL scan was run

adwcleaner was run

had adwcleaner delete all and reboot

ran combofix

when computer was rebooting it got stuck on the black screen for about an hour

Had to restart it again and when it did it restored to a previous date

This is where I screwed up

Since it was a previous date it seemed like nothing had taken place, no downloads on the desktop.

Ran the otl scan again

adwcleaner again, log looked the same as first time so I deleted all again

Ran combofix and rebooted and it gave me a log

That is where I am stuck, I dont know whether to leave these downloads on the computer, delete them

I dont think that Quads is going to help me anymore since I messed up, so I was wondering if anyone else could help. I just really want to finish what was started. The computer was stuck on the black screen this morning and finally got it restarted after about 5 times. But I do think there is some kind of virus. Still have adwcleaner and combofix downloaded on the computer. Dont know if I should delete them or what.

Thanks

Kim

Recently my Lenovo Y50-70 laptop suddenly started acting weird right after Windows 10 update. It got worse a couple weeks later after a May 2017 Windows 10 Anniversary update. So I updated the graphics drivers and ever since then my laptop will take hours to boot up. I changed the power settings so it does not go into sleep mode as that was the first issue I noticed when issues started - it would go to sleep or hibernate and would not come back without hard start. I turned off the screen saver, changed power settings so that screen & laptop wont hibernate or sleep. Made sure Windows Updates all up to date. Tried to Skype to take a peek before removing it but it wont open and I got a message saying "Cant be opened using the Built-In Administrator account. Sign in with a different account and try again." I have no idea what that means. There is only the one account on here and only I use this laptop. If that was as bad as it got I could deal with this but... Last night I was trying to backup everything and eventually fell asleep waiting for reboot to kick in. The OS was booted up when I woke up this morning and I decided to restart it after my backup to external drive failed........ bad decision on my part there as I have spent last 12 hrs trying to get this stupid thing into Safe Mode, or BIOS or even just regular start up. Nothing. As of 9am today I can not even get it to boot at all it just keeps running, lights on, fan spinning but nothing happening ... Read more

Hello, I'll go ahead and start from the very beginning. Thanks in advance though for taking a look at my problem.

About a month ago, my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart. Next time, generally it would work perfect.

So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.

Just to let you know I'm running Raid0, and this is my first time running it. I'm not sure if this symptom is a common problem if one of the disks are going out. Does anyone know whats going on? Could it be a virus that messed with a boot.ini or any startup stuff? also, is there anyw... Read more

Hello, over the last week to week and a half my computer has been getting worse and worse. I think its triggered by right clicking objects although I dont think thats entirely whats causing the problem. The screen will freeze and then the monitor will turn black and the computer will have to be restarted. The problem can occur as frequently as 3 times in 10 minutes currently. From the last day upon restarting some images have traces of minor pixelation errors, especially the windows icon as the PC is restarting and certain other random/minor images like above my back/forward, refresh and stop bottons in IE appear pixelated. As I'm posting this the problem occured and the screen went to a blue screen and mentioned something of proceeding with a physical memory dump and i restarted right away. I have avast running with script blocker(although turned it off for the DDS) so I dont know what may have pentrated the PC to cause this if it malicious. I'm running a Dell 4600 with windows xp. This can be caused by a number of things.
The first thing to do is to find out if it is hardware or software related.
The best way to do this is to boot into the bios and leave it there for a bit.
If the problem arises when let in the bios screen then you know it is hardware.

So here's the deal, starting from the beginning!
Note: I've been away for about a year, and I just got back today.

I'm pretty psyched about Starcraft 2, so I tried to install it a couple hours ago. The software failed to connect to the Internet to validate the installation. At the suggestion of a member of another forum, I ran ComboFix.exe. It totally fixed the problem.

I could have stopped there, but I was a little greedy. I then installed 87 Windows Updates on my computer, up to but not including XP Service Pack 3. I did this because SC II more or less asked me to.

I restarted upon completion and the problem began. After the Windows loading screen, the screen becomes black. Shortly afterward, there is no more input to the monitor (it turns off). I hear a beep every 40 seconds from my computer, but nothing else. This continues until I restart.

Safe Mode and Last Known Configuration do not work. I have the Recovery Console installed, but I don't know what to do with that. Unfortunately I disabled System Restore quite a while ago to save space.

I am fairly certain the culprit is these Windows updates. What I would ideally like to do is, well, uninstall them. I don't know how to navigate the text workspace of the Recovery Console, though... and I don't even know if it can be done.

I'd really appreciate any help at all. It's so unfortunate that my computer worked great after a year of sitting idle, and then I went and messed it up in an hour!

A:[SOLVED] Black screen after Windows loading screen

Use an XP Installation Disk to run chkdsk, and hope your problem is HD errors.

If Safe Mode, Last known good configuration and System Restore are all not working, the only thing left is a Repair Installation.
