Questions about iso's

Q: Questions about iso's

If you use one don't you need to buy a product key to use it ?

I always bought upgrades like the 8 Pro Pack WMC.{$40}
Then upgraded to 8.1 Pro from the Store.{free}

Everything installed nicely.
No problems.

I had no use for an iso.

Why people need iso's confuses me.

Pardon my appalling ignorance.

Preferred Solution: Questions about iso's

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Questions about iso's

David in my case I used an ISO with generic key to install 8.1.1 I also used an $40 8 pro upgrade to Activate.
To avoid upgrading from Win 7 to 8 pro then to 8.1 Por and then update 1
I have a nice clean install of 8.1.1 and then reinstall only the currently used software. lots of crap gone in one fell swoop that had accumulated over the years from Win 7 I actual skipped Win 8 altogether.

I do suppose that the ISO was not really legal however I think the results are legal! And a lot cleaner system that had I gone the legal route and completed all of those upgrade/updates.

1. Ran out of this space in my Q:Lenvovo - backup assigned partition.  14GB.  (My C: drive has 80GB free!) How can I fix this?  Is there a way to expand the partition without deleting it first?  Does Lenvovo or Microsoft or SSD manufacturer have a tool to do this where you just enter the amount you want to expand a partition to and it will adjust the other partition accordingly?  If not; I cannot delete the Q:Lenovo drive using file explorer or disk cleanup utility.  How do I remove at the original backup?  When I go to disk cleanup it shows blank the files; so it is a hidden file or subdirectory.  I even try signing on as System Administratin but forgot the password I created, it been so long ago and never use it.  LOL!   If I cannot do any of this:  There is an option to do a Windows 10 refresh but can you redirect it to a new SSD from the existing SSD? 2. Looking to get a new SSD but in NVMe configuration. a. Does my L450 support NVMe boot up? What type of NVMe does my Thinkpad support?  I thinking of getting the Samsung 860 Evo.b. Is connecting the new NVMe and running transfer SSD software the Windows 10 will recognize the drives and do the transfer?    Serial NumberF0ATPKGPart Number: 20D5503800 Thanks for any help you can give in this matter!

Hi,

I'm thinking about building my own PC, but I don't quite understand what anti-static precautions should be taken. Obviously, nothing will be plugged in, but is there anything I'm missing or not understanding?
Also, are anti-static wrist bands essential? Also, would carpet work as a good working area?

Thanks

I have a
HP Pavilion dv7t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
64bit with Windows Vista Home premium
Recently I had a friend take it and wipe it to start fresh.
when I got it back it is still pointing to a bizarre path..?? (which is one of the reasons I wanted to start fresh. It points to:

PATH
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

PATHEXT
.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH;.MSC

why would this be the case? When I got it back I see that some things like my extra monitor was already installed.. (Before I even hooked it up??) and some folders I had renamed example folder.OLD was still here. (and many other things that lead me to believe it did not get formatted correctly. (and could still have virus?)
He used my factory disks. (which I do have)
can anyone advise me on what is going on?
thanks so much!!

A:Environment Variables questions and format questions

I've had a bunch of HP machines. But I never used the restore. I'm not sure if it formats or just installs over what's there. It may leave files and folders that are in subfolders of programs that come bundled with the machine assuming it's data or something. The path looks fine to me. That %SystemRoot% stuff is just a way to use environment variables in case the system is not installed on C:\Windows.

If you really just want the OS and not the bundled software see the threads about ISO download for Vista. You can evaluate for 90 days perfectly legally. There are also tutorials how to extend the evaluation by 30 days.

Hey guys, you might of seen a post or two about me not able to get our domain to use GPO's, but its all fixed now. YAY !
(It was the DNS, incase anyone was interested)

but now i got a few questions, i'll start with:

1. Is there anyway to configure a client by just having them log onto the domain? e.g. Disable Security Center, Windows Messanger, Add a Registry hack. etc.

2. Is there anyway to view a list of all websites visited on the network with information, eg. Who was looking at it(which user), at what time. etc

3. Is there a way to record a list of all objects printed from our print server with information? e.g. User that printed it, time it was printed, how many pages, how many copys. etc.

4. Is there a way to delete start menu files/folders with a logon script?

5. I'm going to put "Deep Freeze" on the computers that are accessed and used by the public, but i've never used it, nor have any experience with it.
Does it cause any problems with normal operation of the computer? if anyone could give me some feedback on this, i'd love to hear it.

Also, is it possible to get more then just 6 Virtual Drives on a computer?

i mean, isn't there 23 possible drives?

Hello,

Brand new user.

a. The new PC came with McAfee anti virus.
Should I use it ?

Is it as good as AVG, e.g., which I used on my old W7 PC ? Use them both ?

b. And, how do I turn on the "Defender" anti virus which I understand is part of
the W10 package ?

Would it interfere with McAfee or AVG ? How good is it ?

c. How do I turn on the Firewall; I'm assuming there is one like in W7 ?

Much thanks,
Bob

A:New W10 User Questions (Basic Questions, Please)

McAfee, AVG and Defender are all anti-virus programs and you should only run one. In fact Defender will get turned off when another one is installed.

Right click the Start button and select Control Panel.

Then select Security and Maintenance and under Security it will show your the status of the Firewall, Virus and Spyware and which program is running what.

Control panel also has links to Defender and Firewall.

That McAfee is a trial version and at some point you will have to buy it.

I have a Packard Bell P133, model D135. Eight megs of
RAM are on the motherboard. According to a search of
this model on a 'Memory' website, this model has FPM non-
parity memory. The machine had two 4-MB modules installed
when it was new in 1996, for a total of 16 MB at time of purchase.
Since then, I have added two 8MB modules to bring it up to
32MB. Two weeks ago, I replaced the two 4MB modules with
two 32MB FPM modules, which was supposed to bring it up to a total of 88MB. When I boot up, it only reads slightly over 81MB as passed....of course, on the System Properties 'General' tab, 80MB is listed. Can anyone tell me what might have happened to the other 8MB?

Another question: Would parity memory be compatible with
non-parity memory? I know from research, that most servers use parity memory...parity being described as a feature of
a module for error-checking. Would parity memory work OK with non-parity, but not the other way around? The reason I ask is, I have an opportunity to buy some used 72-pin, FMP parity modules at a good price, and I just wanted to know if the two (parity and non-parity) would mesh. I wanted to bring it up to the max for this model....136MB, providing the 8MB on-board memory is read. That was my own theory about the missing 8MB....that the on-board memory, for some reason isn't being read. Any thoughts on this?

Hey guys, just have a few questions in regards to Vista x32 vs x64 as well as Direct x10 issues when it comes to gaming.

First off - What benefits do I get by running Vista x64 as opposed to x32 when it comes to gaming. I bought Call of Duty 4 as well as Bioshock, and will be buying some of the new games coming out such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2. Are any of these games 64 bit games?

Second off - Do I get any benefit playing a game made for DirectX 9 on a DirectX10 platform? Or are the graphic increases only visible in games actually made for DirectX 10? Again, are any of the games I listed above made to work with better graphics in DirectX 10?

Thanks guys!

A:32/64 bit questions & DirectX 9/10 questions :)

I discovered your inquiry while I was attempting to answer questions similar to yours.

This isn't much help but try reading about Epic Game's 'Unreal' game engine. I'm reading the article on wikipeadia about this game engine. This is the game engine used for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

Any way, it seems that if your running the game in a 64-bit environment like Windows Vista 64 the game will be in 64-bit mode.

It uses Directx 10 and Directx 10 also seems to be in 64-bit mode depending on weather Windows is in 64-bit mode.

In related news, it seems that the 'Unreal' game engine and the 'Source' game engine (Used for Half life 2, etc) are optimized to take advantage of multi-threading or in other words optimized for multi-core processors.

Anyway, see what conclusions you come to...I'll post an update as I learn more.

Does the AMD CCC that is installed depend on the graphics chipset (i.e. different interface for different chipsets)?

When I install an AMD graphics card, the display always appears underscanned by about 10%.
On my main desktop, I can open CCC and adjust the overscan and underscan.I've been trying an old HDD in another box.
I'm using the onboard graphics chip set (using the HDMI output).
The display appears to be underscanned by ~10%.

The CCC on this machine looks completely different and it has no adjustments for overscan and underscan.
Everything is presets, so nothing can be adjusted (apart from 3D settings). The irony is that despite all of the complaints about drivers in Linux Distros, Linux Mint 16 "just worked" (i.e. proper resolution and scan width).

Does anyone know how I can fix the underscan issue?
Can I just download a different version of CCC and install it?

A:xp questions

Disable the virus protection. What is happening is that XP is modifying system files and Norton is catching it and telling you that it thinks a virus is modifying the Windows 98 install, when in fact the upgrade is modifying it.

I would also check and make sure that your version of Norton is compatable with XP. If not, then upinstall it.

First of all i'm gonna explain my setup which is based on multiple hardrives, main one, where OS are residing consist on a raid0 array. Currently, it has multiple partitions which are used to store Windows Vista, Windows 7 and GNU/Gentoo Linux. When the system boots, righ after the BIOS process Grub 1.x shows up as it's installed in the mbr and also in the first partition of the hardrive (raid0 array). Here i can shoose betwen the 3 installed OS. Everyone boots up with no problem and Windows installations are successfully activated.

The problem is when i first installed Windows 7 Grub was stored on another device, no the raid0 one, which we're going to call "x:" and it was the "master" hard drive, so although i installed Windows 7 on the raid0 device, which we're going to call "c:" (we could see it as a slave drive) Windows 7 boot files were stored on "x:".

So after the Windows 7 installation i took the boot files and moved them to "c:" (Windows 7 partition on the raid0 device), activated that partition and everything was ok since today when i took a look into bcd and some questions apperead.

After reading the following howto BCDEDIT - How to Use i noticed that i have no path under the main bcd configuration, the one called "Administrador the arranque de Windows" and device is setted to partition=x:. My questions are, which is the usage of the path variable under "Administrador the arranque de Windows&q... Read more

A:BCD questions

"Administrador the arranque de Windows" = "Windows Boot manager" in english.

There is only a 'device' item for boot manager as it is expected that the file "bootmgr" is in the main directory(root directory) of the loaded/active partition.

Nothing will be deactivated on drive change - the BCD stores only information how to load the corresponding OS(OS's when dual-triple-...-boot).

if bootmgr and the '\boot' folder are copied over to another drive/partition (in your case from 'x:' to 'c:' the 'device' reference for bootmgr should be corrected to be 'c:'.

Hope this helps.

Merry Autumn everyone to everyone that is in the autumn equinox!

I'm right now about a third or so of the way complete with rebuilding and modding my computer case right now, and now I'm at the point of modding half the case for the PSU and other items.

So I have questions about the power supply in general. I'm looking at a roughly 700 watt max as I will be using AMD's new APU graphics chip (Radeon 7650) in CrossFire with the Radeon 7870. I will also have a total of 13 or 14 SATA connectors: 8 hard drives (5,200-5,900 RPM) in a RAID 5 array, two internal 2.5" hard drive SATA connections as well as two external 2.5" connections, and maybe one or two mSATA external connectors. I was wondering if I can use a couple of spare SATA power cable from my previous PSU (the old and new PSU's are modular) and use those with the new SATA power cables. I will be splicing and cutting and soldering and modding the cables so they are pretty much built into the case in the front as well as the external ones. I don't know for sure if I'm tampering with the gods of electricity and power in doing so, because I don't really want to have a power problem when I'm gaming only to find out I needed either more power or less SATA connectors; which would be problematic as I will need a LOT of SATA power connectors to future proof my build for at least five or eight years.

Thanks!

Hi,

Couple of NT questions I really need help with:

1) How do I change what programs startup when NT starts up? There were a couple of programs I had set to start when NT was started, and they've since been removed from my computer. Now I get annoying error messages. How do I get NT to stop trying to start them automatically upon starting up?

2) Is there a way to change the name of drives? My hard drive is partitioned - there was originally the C and D drives. I just installed a zip drive, and it has somehow become the D drive (D is now F). So, every time I try to run something (from a shortcut or the start menu) that used to be in D, it can't be found. I figure the easiest way to fix this would be to just change the name of the drive back to D. If there's a way, that is...

Thanks!

A:2 NT Questions

Kato,

1) what is your email? I will send you an attachment to solve this one. Then put the files in the following folder: c:\<i>%windows root directory%</i>\system

ie if you are running NT most likely path is <b>c:\winnt\system</b>

Then choose START=>RUN and type msconfig then hit enter. Here you can specify what starts up. Be careful though, there is a lot that can harm your system in here too.

2) I am trying to remember for NT, as I am on 2000, but here goes....I believe it is in the following - START=>PROGRAMS=>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS=>DISK ADMIN (i think, I could tell you if I had it in front of me). Here you can change drive letters, repartition, whatever you want. Just right click on the partition and choose your poison....

Hope this helps......

hey guys, I'm new to the forums . I just have a question that's been on my mind.

1.) I've recently tried to play this one game, but it obviously had problems with my vista. The problem dealed with resolutions. Therefore, I had to change resolutions a LOT, resulting in my LCD going to that quick black screen when changing resolutions. So my question is: When the LCD monitor goes to this "black" stage, does it harm it? I've had to do this a lot because I wanted to get the game working, and now I'm noticing discrete horizontal lines stretching from whole screen.

*P.S. I just got this laptop a couple weeks ago, I probably had these lines back then, maybe I'm just getting adjusted to the screen and + noticing a lot more things about it.

Oh and also, I'm running on a laptop, if that information is useful at all.

I have just purchased a new OCZ Vertex2 90GB SSD. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I have read most of the tutorials and many of the threads, but still have some questions. I currently have a WD 1002FAEX HD with Windows 7 pro installed. I plan on keeping it, adding a Seagate Barracuda 500GB drive and the OCZ.

I have already converted to AHCI mode via regedit hack and in bios, based on one of the excellent tutorials here. It worked exactly like it was supposed to.

My questions are:
1. Should I install the SSD on SATA port 1 or does it matter?

2. The tutorial says to align=64 but other posts have said align= 1024. which is correct.

3. There seems to be some contention between some of the manufactures as well as some of the people on this board. when formatting the partition should I use the command format fs=NTFS or format fs=NTFS quick?

4. One tutorial says to format the drive in the command prompt. Another says to let the installer format the partition. Which is best? One thread said that if you let the installer format, it will undo what was done in command prompt.

5. Am I correct in that a new ssd does not require the clean all or the clean command?

6. After changing the boot order in BIOS to boot from the SSD, will I be able to reformat my current installation of Windows 7?

BTW, I plan on doing a clean install and start over.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

A:New SSD Questions

Hello essenbe.

1) The SATA port doesn't matter.

2) Smaller is always better, they would both be 'correct'.

3) The argument "quick" just means to do a quick format, I would suggest not to do a quick.

4) If you're using diskpart to do something else then do it all in diskpart and formatting with the installer will re-do the format and any information you added using diskpart will be removed.

5) No it is not necessary, remember that "clean" and "clean all" over-write data and a new SSD/HDD has no data to over-write.

6) You can format/over-write anything that is not marked "System" that is where the boot files are stored.

You can buy a cheap adapter that will allow you to use the old style keyboard connector on a PS/2 keyboard. Alright, so long story short my home built desktop has 3 hard drives.

One of which is a far newer Western Digital Caviar Black 750gb drive.

The next oldest drive is approximately 4 years old 250GB seagate hard drive that was I originally got as a replacement drive for an older computer.

The third, and oldest drive at nearly 6 years old, was the drive that was the one replaced by the drive mentioned above. I was able to repair the drive and has worked quite well for quite a while. It is 250GB Western Digital drive, some OEM model put in an old HP circa 2005.

Since my desktop was the product of a long series of drawn out upgrades (unemployed high school students tend to have small computer budgets ) and at least 3 seperate installations of OS's (one vista, one windows 7 RC and one full windows 7 pro 64-bit) the later two were done on the Caviar Black.

However, the Master Boot Record, it appears, is on the oldest of the drives.

It also appears that the disk is failing (or at least that is my guess).

This is because occasionally when I start my computer it will tell me I have No OS installed. The instances in which this happened has increased over the past week or so.

Other times it will boot properly to the screen where I can choose which OS I would like to boo, even though Win 7 pro 64-bit is the only one still actually installed.

My question is how can I move the MBR from that older failing drive to my primary drive, the Caviar Black?

The MBR issue would probably be resolved via a "System Repair Disk" Repair function or a Bootrec /fixmbr but

This is a problem I got into a few months ago-I gave up. Here it goes again!
My computer is running XP home edition, plenty of memory, etc. I had some problems with the pre-installed Roxio cd writting software. After some research, I bought a product called ClickN' Burn--it generally works great. Part of the software package is a program from Veritas for DLA, or Drive Letter Access, I think. It is one of those programs that allows you to drag and drop to a re-writtable cd. I can't get it to work. I can't find any software updates anywhere. I get a general error message when I try to format a cd-rw and then when I turn off the computer, some program associated with Veritas hangs. The DLA program has been uninstalled for several months now, and the computer is generally working fine (except for some weird driver problem that crops up off and on).
Has anyone had any experience with Veritas or Clickn' burn under XP? Sometimes I think I should just uninstall the whole thing, bite the bullet and get Roxio CD Creator Platinum for about $100, but I am stubborn. Suggestions?

A:CD RW questions

have you tried formatting the cd rw witch easy cd creator first? Does that give you any problems? Try downloading nero and formating the cd rw like that, and then formatting with the packet incremental writing system.

When i install alot of games on my computer when i have 226 Gb will that slow down my computer? I just downloaded hl2 demo and my video card is'nt the best in the world so i have performance problems. I right click when i have the SMG and my comp freezes and then it goes back to normal and the granade goes off. Then the rest of the time its good.
I dont get it?

A:Cpu and hl2 questions

The 226GB is your available hard drive space. This is used for permanent storage of programs, games, etc., and will not slow down your computer if it gets full.

When it freezes after first firing, that's because the game has to load a bunch of new textures and sounds for that grenade explosion that it didn't load into memory yet - it doesn't happen anymore because it's already in memory from that point on.

Basically, it's normal, and nothing to worry about.

Hello,

I have a problem with two things, one is pretaining to games, and one is pretaining to AIM/MSN Messenger.
I play a game called graal, and it has a client. When people send me personl messages I can open the message and they usually have a website of some sort. I can get to the point where it say Open or Cancel, but if I press open, it won't pop up. I have turned Pop-Off blocker off several times.
Same goes with AIM, I can't access even using the CTRL click.

Thanks.

I am about to purchase a OCZ Vertex2 120Gb SSD. This will be used to house a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Prem and programs. All data, vids, music etc. will be housed on the old drive.

My question is what will happen to my old drive letters when I place Win7 on the new SSD? I understand I must unplug the old spinner (as it contains my current win7) before loading it on the new drive. But when I plug it back in, what happens to it. Will windows make the changes, or will I have to manually do it?

A:New SSD - Questions

If you plan to continue booting your old HD, then after install to the SSD with it set first to boot in BIOS setup, plug back in the HD and boot it when needed by using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key. Win7 should see itself as C whichever you are booted into - you'll have to see what the other partitions are lettered from SSD.

One way to save space on an SSD is to link to user folders on another HD: User Folders - Change Default Location - Windows 7 Forums

When you're ready to delete Win7 on the HD, you can keep User folders and delete the Windows and other files by taking ownership of them: Take Ownership Shortcut - Windows 7 Forums Folders which balk may need to grant full Permission to Everyone (as Administrator) on Properties>Security tab. Or move User folders to another partition and delete the Win7 partition, reformat NTFS primary and move User folders back to maintain their path.

Hi,
This is my first post here

I have two annoying questions.

1. I created a site and my my flash banner's turning upside down on my IE and not on any one else's computer. Obviously there's something wrong with my IE, but I don't know what the problem nor the solution is. If you can help me I'd surely appreciate it.

2. I am trying to insert a excel document in Frontpage. It won't do it because I'm lacking a path to a certain file. When prompted to insert my XP disk and I do so, it can't find the fife! GRRRRR...*thwack* Okay, is it me, or is this just the way things are gonna go since I've upgraded?

I love XP, but ever since I've upgraded, I've run into some pretty strange problems. The OS itself, for me, is the best bar none; but there's a couple of sticky points that I need some help on.

If you need further details, I'd be happy to supply them to you (whatever it is that you need)....

Thanks!

2. How do I close IE?

A:IE 10 Questions

If you want to do these in Metro IE, right click anywhere in the page, click the file on the bottom right and change to desktop view, now press Alt button. You don't need to close the IE, it goes in to suspension mode when you don't use it.

I am building a system for myself and am wondering would I be better off buying an SSD to run windows etc off and then put everything else on a SATA hard drive or is it not worth the effort?
The computer is going to be used for all sorts. Not a big game player or movie watcher but it does get used for both from time to time.
SHould I get an SSD what size will do to store windows etc. Wife has put me on a strict budget and am at $600 already and thats not going over board.
Look forward to your replies.

A:SSD Questions

I've never owned or used an SSD. I just bought a two-terabyte drive for $80. When SSDs are down to about twice that, I will probably get one, myself.

SSDs are ve-e-ery expensive for their size compared to magnetic disks; but, they do offer advantages in speed, especially for gamers. Boot times are also noticeably shorter.

If it were me, I would save my SSD money for a later time unless I needed the extra speed for something like gaming or if I worked in a situation where a laptop might be getting knocked around a bit. For normal office and business applications, the time savings is just too small to matter.

Early adopters of new technology pay a high monetary price and are the guinea pigs for the industry. I'll let someone else pay those prices while I wait on the technology to fully mature and for manufacturers to recover their R&D from others beside myself.

But, that is just one person's opinion, my own.

1. How do you expand Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel to show all programs such as Internet Explorer, etc

2. Also, MS Messenger use to greet me...now I am receiving no greeting..is there some box that needs to be checked/unchecked

3. How do you go about changing between half duplex and full duplex on a modem

Any assistance appreciated

A:3 Questions with XP

1. How do you expand Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel to show all programs such as Internet Explorer, etc

You cannot beyond clicking Add/Remove Windows Components, only shows a few items. Many Windows components such as Internet Explorer and Media Player are built-in to the OS, therefore, cannot be removed, which is why the governemnt is after Microsoft .

2. Also, MS Messenger use to greet me...now I am receiving no greeting..is there some box that needs to be checked/unchecked

MS Messenger can be removed using Add/Remove Windows Components. I would try installing it, reboot, and reinstall it.

3. How do you go about changing between half duplex and full duplex on a modem

It usually controlled by the protocol being used. TCP-IP is Full Duplex only. If you using a Async terminal emulator, such as HyperTerminal, it's controlled by the application.

Here some infor to explain half duplex:

It refers to the transmission of data in just one direction at a time. For example, a walkie-talkie is a half-duplex device because only one party can talk at a time. In contrast, a telephone is a full-duplex device because both parties can talk simultaneously.

Most modems contain a switch that lets you select between half-duplex and full-duplex modes. The correct choice depends on which program you are using to transmit data through the modem.

In half-duplex mode, each character transmitted is immediately displayed on your screen. (For this reason, it is sometimes call... Read more

I have been resurrecting an old HP G56 laptop and turning it into a handy dandy portable picture displaying device.

Windows 7 Home Premium

Every time I raise the lid or wake it up after it has fallen asleep, there are these two very annoying messages that insist on my full attention; I no more than get one Xed away until another shows up.

I google-searched both messages and followed the "get rid of them" instructions to the letter; however, both are still there and are dug in tighter than ticks, refusing to go away without a fight.

The two worst offenders:

hpwuSchd2.exe = alias = HP Product Assistant or HP Update

and

jucheck.exe
How can I get rid of these two offenders ?

Thanks.

Since this is a current thread and I basically have the same types of concerns/questions as the thread-starter regarding the use of ADWCleaner, I am going to post here. Hope I'm not using too poor of board etiquette.

So, just real quickly, are these HKLM Chrome Extensions files/folders anything to worry about?  They seem odd to me because of the long and random looking letter suffixes. Should I delete these?

I'm just nervous after hearing about mals using fake Chrome extensions lately.

(Also, see question about third image below.)

The one that really threw me was this file called "END".  I found a few discussion links on it but nothing difinitive. Is it dangerous?  Should I remove it?

Thanks for any helpful thoughts!

Oh, and I am a Windows 8.1 user.

The trick here is to Google the extensions name (these random strings of characters) and then see if they extensions are malicious or not. Since I'm lazy (or not really), I can do this for you, but I would ask you to provide me the AdwCleaner scan log, so I don't have to enter manually every extensions. A friend helped me setup my network and I think he had me buy the wrong equipment or we have something setup wrong. First let me tell you what I am trying to run.

I have 2 desktop pcs and a laptop.
A) Desktop PC Running Windows Vista Home Premium (64) SP2
B) Desktop PC Running Windows XP SP2
C) Laptop Running Windows XP SP2

Also we have 3 xbox 360's and a ps3...

The network equipment at this time is set up like this
Cable Modem----->Linksys BEFSR41 Router (1) -----> Linksys BEFSR41 Router (2)

Computer A is linked to Router 1 along with 2/3 xboxes
Computer B is linked to Router 2 along with 1 xbox, ps3 and laptop
Issues: Sometime things can connect to internet sometimes they cannot..
The Xboxes on Router 1 knock each other offline when they try to both connect which makes gaming with each other impossible over the internet but not via system link.

I was going to get an ethernet switch instead of the router (2) but was convinced into getting a second router and chaining them.

SO.... can someone tell me would it be better to get a switch for that position or are the setting just wrong somewhere and I can make this work.

At this point I just want to have a smooth functioning setup where people can use what they want when they need to and need some help to get there. Thanks.

Hey all,

I've noted in quite a few threads lately that people using 300w power supplies to run their P4's and Athlons. I was under the assumption that these processors really needed 350w Power supplies.

I realize that a good quality 300w PS is probably better than a cheap 350w but most people pay little concern to their PSs and just get the cheapest around. I'm completely on the other side of the spectrum. I went for complete and utter overkill with my PS(and its probably a waste now, but it should last me quite a long time)

So whats the deal? Is a 300w ok? What are you running in your athlon and P4 rigs?

A:PS questions

I'm running 400W PS's on all the systems. In fact most of the motherboard manuals lately have said that they require at least 250 watts just for the board alone, so I figure another 100 watts for the drives in case they all run at once, and 50 watts for good measure.
