Windows photo printing wizard ignores printer colour settings

Q: Windows photo printing wizard ignores printer colour settings

Hi
When I right click an image choose print the "How do you want to print your pictures" wizard starts. My problem is that this wizard ignores colour settings of the printer. Printing from word, pdf, paint works fine and the printed document/image
is in black and white as it should when I choose the "BW" printer.

So how can i get the print picture guide to obey the printers settings?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i tried clearing the cache and temp internet files from IE.. and deleted all the junk in the temp directory under "C:\Documents and Settings\smith\Local Settings\Temp"... but it still comes up...

In order to delete all the photos that constantly appear in the Windows photo printing wizard when you have opened an image attachment from an Outlook email message you first need to determine what randomly named hidden folder is being used to store them. (why MS Outlook decided to make it a "randomly" named hidden folder I'm not sure). To find this folder the easiest way is to look in the registry.

Using the registry find the following key -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security

Then copy the string value of the "OutlookSecureTempFolder" entry for the above key. It should look something like this: C:\Documents and Settings\user.name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK71\

NOTE: user.name will the the value of your current user id. This folder seems to ALWAYS be in the users "Temporary Internet Files" folder however the sub-folder is invisible/hidden and can not be browsed to through the directory tree. You can browse to the "Temporry Internet Files" folder but then in Exploerer you must add the "\HiddenName" to the end of the path and press enter. Then the directory will appear and display it's conntents.

So if you copy the string value from the registry and past it into Windows Explorer address line and click "GO", a list of files should be dispayed. Delete everything that is an image file (or simply delete everything). NOTHING in this directory is required, yo... Read more

I have a desktop and laptop, both running Windows 8, the laptop running Pro. There are differences in the choices for printing sizes and appearance of the image when using each Photo Printing Wizard that I do not remember being a problem previously:
1. Paper size: clicking 'More...' gives me a total of seven different sizes on the desktop, whereas there are more than 50 options on the laptop
2. Image appearance: the image for printing does not fill the rectangle on the desktop, even when I have chosen 10x15cm and the proportions are correct, as can be seen in the attachment. This could be because I do not have the choice of Borderless 10x15cm, perhaps.
I use Paint.NET typically, but the situation is the same in Photo Viewer.

A:Windows Photo Printing Wizard differences

Photo Printing Wizard went away with XP. Since you are talking about some website that you are using online. Their FAQ's and forum would be the best help you can get.

With the HP Photosmart printers, the software you have to install, would be best. Otherwise use Gimp to size the photos for the paper.

I went to print a jpeg file that my daughter sent me and PHOTP PRINTING WIZARD prompted me to select whicj image to print... found dozens , maybe a hundred pictures and stuff that I never downloaded on ther. I tried to delete by right clicking on them but that did not do anything..How do I remove these and where did they come from? Thanks

A:Photo Printing Wizard

Unless you some how changed something the XP printing wizard points to the my pictures folder in XP or at least for me it does. When I open a photo and hit print the wizard shows me everything in the my pictures folder but nothing I didn't put there. Go to what ever folder the printing wiazrd is getting the images from and try deleting from there. If the stuff doesn't show up in the folder then try showing hidden files and folders and see. Maybe clear out your temp internet files and see if that clears it up. I have never heard of this happening before.

I have Windows XP and use Internet Explorer. I want to delete all the pics/images that are currently on the "Window Picture & Fax Viewer". I've manually gone through each one, selected "delete", then get a window asking the standard "yes" or "no", then another window pops up stating the pic has been put in the "recycle bin". However, none of these pics/images are actually deleted from the Photo Printing Wizard. What gives? How can I totally clear these? The delete process seems like a useless exercise.

A:Photo Printing Wizard

There are no pictures in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. They are in folders. If you went with the defaults when you downloaded them they are probably in C:My Documents/My Pictures.

I have no idea why they are staying on the printing wizard if you delete them with the Pictures and Fax Viewer. Have you closed and reopened the print wizard? It might just be generating thumbs for printing and they will not be regenerated if you reopen the wizard. I have never used that wizard. You might also try emptying the recycle bin.

You might prefer Irfanview for sorting. It is freeware: www.irfanview.com

When you install Irfanview select Images Only when it asks for associations during install. Open an image in Irfanview and go File>Thumbnails. It will make thumbnails of the entire folder the image is in. on the thumbnails page go Options>Thumbnail Options. Increase the size of the thumbs to something you can make decisions with. I use 200 X 200 because that gives me 4 abreast, but you can go larger.

Left click the first image you want to delete, which highlights it. Hold the Ctrl key while you select all of the others you want to delete. When you have selected them all hit the Delete key and then Enter to OK. They will all go to the recycle bin.

When you have an image open in Irfanview the Enter key cycles between full screen and normal view. You can scroll through the folder with the scroll wheel on you mouse.

Run msconfig, and lookj if it's listed in the startup options, if so disbale the startup there, and it should be fine... You may have to reboot to deactivate it from memory.

A:How to disable Photo Printing Wizard

Type "regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll" without quotes and including spaces. Press "Enter." You may get a pop-up telling you the process has been turned off.

You can then use any photo print program such as if you have Microsoft Office the Office Picture Manager.

Open a photo and try to print. The Windows XP wizard should not pop up. When you want to turn the wizard back on, repeat the process but instead of typing "regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll," type "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll."

Just wondering if there is any way to disable the photo printing wizard so that I can select my own options from the printer directly?

I found several topic is google that discuss editing the registry but they usually say that if you do that then the print button that previously called up the wizard would no longer work, which defeats the purpose as far as I am concerned.

I'm also not very comfortable editing the registry so if that is the only option I would really love a step by step guide as to what to do and how to undo if necessary.

Thanks!

When attempting to print from My Documents, the Photo Printing Wizard will freeze when it appears, the hourglass does not go away, and when I click Cancel. it says the program is not responding, I click End and all icons on the desktop disappear for several seconds, then reappear. However, sometimes when they disappear they do not come back and the only way to fix that is to turn the computer off and on. Photo Printing Wizard does work when printing from My Pictures. I have googled the problem and tried several methods to fix as defragmenting the disk but no luck. Where do I go from here? Thanks, Pico

Hi,
I'm on XP home. I'm in the process of hooking up my printer, a Photosmart 1215. I went to the HP site and downloaded the drivers for XP. I don't have it working yet, but my first problem is the darned Photo Printing Wizard. When I click on a picture and then select print from the file option the printing wizard pops up and insists on loading every picture on my computer and then making me select the photo from that. It then says the picture is being printed and then says it was successfully completed. Actually nothing was printed. When I was using Windows 98, the printer software would open up and I just had to click ok. This printing wizard is just a hassle. Is there a way I can by pass this or disable it? Then I can move on to getting the computer and printer communicating. Thanks!

Hi, I am an IT Tech at a primary school in Luton and I need your help! One of the teachers at my school is trying to print some photos for a display using the school's networked RISO printer. She can print any document or pdf file with no problems. She can also print any image if not using the Microsoft print photo wizard. For some strange reason she cannot print using it. The wizard seems to work fine, i.e letting her change size, number of photos to a page etc, after clicking print it appears to be sending the photos to the correct printer and letting her click finish but nothing happens. I have tried everything I can think of but to no avail. The operating system for the teachers laptop is XP Pro with service pack 2 and the server is 2003 standard edition. Please help as I've run out of ideas now

A:Photo printing Wizard problem

My first suggestion is to update to XP Pro with service pack 3. Next, I suggest going to the printer-maker's website and looking for updated drivers. If you can print OK when not using the Microsoft print photo wizard, then the SP-3 upgrade might fix it, otherwise just use a different program (like Irfanview).

There may be some outdated or mangled stuff on the computer that is causing the problem. Go to http://secunia.com/ to get a scan of your system, and update whatever it advises.

a blank screen. There is no preview and no options for size selections.
When I click next the wizard will print a full page image (This would have

I do not know what the problem could be. Maybe a registry error or a file

So I have a client at a law office that at a certain point a group of pictures can't be printed via the Photo Printing Wizard. When I tried to do it I get an error that says "Your pictures can't be printed because this error occurred" That's all it says. After doing some Googling I see the photowiz.dll referenced a lot and the fix is to copy an old version of the dll/wizard. I do that and it works....kind of. I don't get the error anymore, but the print previews are like some one's taken a small part of the picture and stretched it out to that print size. And it prints that way too. No amount of Googling can show me the solution.

But wait there's more.

After talking with the client, I find out that she had another gal try it on her computer.
Same problem.

So I thought maybe the files got corrupted. I'll grab the backup from last week and try those ones.
Same stinking problem.

So I get the idea to just open them in paint and save them as a new file and format.
Nope.

What about opening them in paint, CTRL+A, CTRL+C, new paint file, CTRL+V?
Yes. This for whatever reason works.

What the heck is going on? It can't be the files because I've tried with their backups from a week ago. It can't be the computer because nothing was done to it on that day.

P.S. Running Windows 7 x64.

My PC ignores all power settings and hibernates after approx 5 minutes of user inactivity. It is a Dell Vostro 200, which I had been running successfully on Windows 8 Pro. The problem appears to have been the result of upgrading to Windows 8.1.

Regardless of the power scheme settings, the PC goes into hibernation after 5 minutes of "inactivity"; i.e. if there is no user keyboard or mouse input. The hibernation also ignores most background processes, so it will go into hibernation even if I am streaming internet radio. I use Windows Home Server, and the daily backup process is currently failing because the PC wakes up to start the backup, but hibernates after 5 minutes, in the middle of the backup process.
The only exception I can find is YouTube - hibernation does not occur if I watch a video longer than 5 minutes, even if there is no user input.

I have tried various suggestions from other forums, without success:
The video drivers up to date.
BIOS is up to date, and ACPI is set to S3.
I have run power settings troubleshooter which reset power settings to "Balanced".
I have tried setting power to "Always on"
I have tried a clean boot process, disabling all start ups and other services, but the problem still occurs

As noted above, the PC was previously working fine, and the only change I can identify is applying the Windows 8.1 upgrade.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this, or any suggestions for debugging the cause, please?
Thanks

I'm trying to print a picture from Paint.Net that does not work right with the photo print wizard that shows up every time I try to print a photo.

Ordinarily, I can just adjust the zoom and ratio in the page setup. These options are taken away from me and I'm given no option to not use the photo print wizard. I don't have Photoshop on this computer so I'm kind of screwed unless I can figure out a way around this.

Incredibly frustrated right now. I just want to print a picture the way I want to print it, not the way Microsoft feels I should.

Help disabling this forced feature would be appreciated. Thanks!

A:How do I disable the Windows photo print wizard?

Did you find a solution to your photo print problem yet?

If not:

I'm assuming that you are trying to print a photo from a PC running Windows 8, yes? [If, on the other hand, you are encountering the Windows XP Photo Print Wizard, try the Windows XP forum here at TSF].

Paint.net doesn't provide a photo print subsystem as far as I can tell. It looks like a basic editor, with the output as a picture file (gif, png, jpg, tiff, etc).

The print window you see in Windows 8 should still allow you to print the photo as you see fit. First of all, for photos that you do not want to print in the Print wizards pre-set sizes, remove the checkmark from the option box "Fit picture to frame". This will keep the picture in the size and shape you created in Paint.net.

Next, look to the lower right hand side of the Print wizard window, for a blue-highlighted item labeled "Options". Click on it to see more settings. Two options appear at the top of that window: 1) Sharpen for printing 2) Only show options compatible with my printer. Choose as you wish (trial & error as far as results). Notice, too, the two links at the bottom of the wizard window : 1) Color Management - which deals with color profiles 2) Printer Properties - which takes you to detailed options available through the printer driver for the printer you've selected. It is here in the advanced printer properties that you will find options concerning scaling & such.

My Dell Dimension 8400 runs Windows XP SP3. Rather than use a screen saver I opt for having the monitor power down to standby after 5 minutes. However, XP does not always do as settings dictate. Several times daily the monitor does not power down. I have to go to the power settings in display properties, and reaffirm what is already there, then "apply" and "OK" on the settings screen, then "OK" on the Display Properties box.
I've seen other posts in which the settings have changed by themselves. My settings do not change, XP simply ignores them.
I have installed and run Malwarebytes, which detected some issues, but the problem persists.

The computer also only recognizes my MP3 player a finite number of times when connected via USB cable. When the MP3 player will no longer be recognized, only a reboot seems to rectify the problem.

Recently my dialup connection (Smartlink 56k modem on PC Windows XP Home Edition) has been ignoring all the settings for the auto-disconnect when idle for n minutes.

This problem is driving me up the wall, as it worked fine for 18 months. Now, whatever I do, my dialup connection remains active. I've been through all the modem settings and reinstalled the modem, etc.

I'm at a loss to know where to look. What could have changed. I did have MSBlaster, but cleaned it out. I have installed Zonealarm firewall, and it tells me that I am getting "pinged" every 30 seconds or so, but I don't know if that is affecting the "idle" condition of my modem. I have tried shutting down everything and having only the dialup running - still it remains active indefinitely.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Michael

I am using a new Dell laptop with I5 processor and Windows 8.1.  My problem is that I cannot find out how to prevent the screen from blanking after 10 minutes of no keyboard entry.  This is happening to the secondary monitor on an extended desktop setup.  The primary monitor (built in display) stays up but the secondary will go black.  Anybody got an idea of what is going on?

Just thought that when I'm just running the built in display, the screen will blank shortly even though the power settings are set to 3 hours to dim and never to blank the display.

Maybe it's the screen saver.  I need to check that!

Well, the screen saver was set to blank after 10 min.  I changed that setting and it probably will fix my issue.  I don't know why I didn't think of looking there before I posted...

Hi all, got a problem that is annoying the h*ll out of me.My Yoga 3 Pro recently did some windows 10 updates, and since this happened it now goes to sleep after a short period of time irrespective of the Windows power settings. It does this whether it is on battery or on charge, no settings seem to have any effect.I have tried all the usual solutions/fixes found by searching on the net including resetting the power/sleep modes to default; uninstalling/reinstalling OKO and the Windows updates; updating all the drivers to the latest versions available.None of these have sorted the problem, so if anybody out there has any ideas - please let me know! System info: Yoga 3 Pro 1370, Intel 5Y70 CPU, running Windows 10 Home V1607 Build 14393.321 (upgraded from Win8.1 approx. 6 months ago) TIASteve

For some weeks now this computer shuts off the desktop display after a few minutes and shows the log-in screen which requires my p.i.n. This is displayed for a further minute or so before the screen goes black.

This behaviour doesn't change regardless of the settings in Power Options.

I can't remember if I downloaded anything which may have caused this. A possibly related change is that the desktop's icons' names are now presented in black - they were in white, are no longer underlined and they don't have shadows. I can't see any way to change this.

I have reset the system, twice, and run the system file checker too, both without effect.

After posting these symptoms on the Majorgeeks Software forum where it was suggested that I check the system for malware. I followed the required steps (I'm sure that anyone reading this is familiar with them) and presented the logs in their Malware Removal forum. No malware was found.

Since no useful information regarding the problems was forthcoming in their Software forum, and there have not been any replies for some time, I thought I would ask here.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

always a good option is to reformat your PC, Make sure you back up everything you want to keep.

Has anyone ever successfully used the F.A.S.T Wizard? I have tried several of the suggested methods. What I am trying to do is transfer the steup of this (notebook) computer without a floppy drive (running XP Pro) to the newly recovered desktop with a floppy drive(running XP Pro). I have the setup (recovery) disk for each computer and have had no success. Anyone?

It sure would make things easier!

Hi sudsy -From this article it seems that you can use a USB Thumb Drive and not just a Floppy - Hope this helps -The only safe way to use F.A.S.T. today is to make a Wizard Floppy or USB Thumb Drive Disk (Note it is an older article from the way it is written) from the new computer with the above latest version installed.A reader of this article named Ray suggested the following to determine which version of F.A.S.T. you are using: Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\usmt\, right click on the file migwiz.exe, and select Properties.

Hello i Have the above problem while I try to share a printer on a domain network.
My windows firewall (localy) is also damage, is that the problem that I have to solve first?

Windows 8  - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties  [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved.  There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.   [OK]

A:Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

Windows Photo Gallery does not recognize my network HP Laserjet
printer. it only recognizes the xps doc writer. The printer is the default printer for Windows Vista but when I try
to add it to Photo Gallery the program shuts down in error. How can I print
pictures to this device?

A:windows photo gallery not printing

Hi Paul02,

You could uninstall and reinstall your HP printer drivers and see if it then recognizes it. Generate a system health report and see what it says. You can also download WIndows Live Photo Gallery and see if that helps.

Hi Guys

I have a picture that I regulary print form windows. I normally do runs of 100 copies of this at a time. The file has always opened in Windows Photo Viewer as standard, and I just print it.

In Windows 7 it again opens in Windows Photo Viewer, and it prints it fine. The problem being that if you ask it to print more than once it seems to send the data to the printer for each and every page. So when i just printed 100 copys of this image it sent it to the printer it took flipping ages.

I know I could easily use different software to resolve this issue, but just thought I would point out this seemingly simple flaw in the software.

Welcome to the SevenForums Mafro!

Someone might be able to help with some added info:

Printer model?
Driver version?
Driver Source?
Windows 7 version?

My dad had the JS/PSyme virus on his Windows XP PC, which we managed to clear out. However, at the same time he noticed a strange quirk with the Windows Fax and Photo Viewer. He opened a jpg from his Yahoo email account through the Windows Photo Viewer. When he went to print it using the Photo Printing Wizard it displayed a preview of the picture together with hundreds of other images (including Tim Henman, some unknown wedding pictures and quite a bit of porn) that are nothing to do with my dad - or so he says Clearing out the virus appeared to get rid of a lot of the pictures but there were still additional spurious pictures. There is a Microsoft article that refers to this at support.microsoft.com/kb/915106 . The actual method of doing this was slightly different to that described by Microsoft, in that on the General tab we had to select Browsing History and could then choose to clear the Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, etc. Additionally, there was no checkbox to clear the offline content. Maybe the article refers to an old version of IE.Anyway, the additional pictures are still there and mainly appear to be gifs from various websites.Another suggestion we found on another forum was to open one of the pictures through the Photo Viewer, select Save As and delete all the images in the Save As box. This didn't work either.Does anyone have any ideas? Could this be registry related or an indication that we maybe didn't get rid of the virus completely. There a... Read more

If you're unable to clear out the offline stuff, I'd think that there was either an issue with IE or that the offline content has already been cleared. You'll have to find the location of the pictures in order to delete them through Windows Explorer. Try right clicking on them and selecting Properties to see where they are.Another good free tool is CCleaner ( http://www.ccleaner.com/ )
