I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I recently bought a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 10 - everything is working fine apart from I can't do anything with Bing. Doing a search from Edge or Cortana just brings up the 'hmm can't access page' error. Trying to go to www.bing.com from Edge or IE just brings an an empty screen with a search box that doesn't do anything. Every other website I go to works fine. I installed the Anniversary update yesterday but that hasn't made any difference.

I am currently using IE with Google search and that works great - but I would like to get Bing working so that I can use Edge and Cortana.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire Nitro with an Intel I7 core 6th generation.

Thanks in advance

A:Bing not working in Edge or Cortana

Sounds an odd problem. Sometimes one off site access issues can be down to DNS and router issues. Might be worth rebooting your router and flushing the DNS cache on your PC.

The problem is any search website comes up with page can't be found: Google.com, Bing.com, Yahoo.com comes up but when I try a search it does nothing. I have no issues going to any other website, just search websites.

I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 and no third party firewall.

AVG scan is clean. Malwarebytes scan is clean. Ccleaner has been run. I have reset IE 8 settings to default. I have flushed the DNS. I have run HiJackThis and don't see any problems. I have checked the host file and there are no strange entries.

I need to know what to try next. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi guys. I did a fresh reinstall of Windows 10. Worked flawlessly, even the activation (pretty proud of myself lol) but bit of a weird bug happens sometimes. If I left click on Search next to start bar, it will light up but not open. It will on the second click but just a bit of an annoyance. Somethinf similar happened with Store where it flashed them closed. I clicked it again and its been working fine since and it also happened once on Windows Update. Not major issues I know but I'd love to know what it is. Thanks

Edit: I have done a SFC check and its come back with no errors. It did happen prior to the clean reinstall and I did the powershell command but it made all the apps go funny with a @ at the beginning of them.

my searchbar/cortana has suddenly stopped working, when I click I get a message telling me there is a problem, please sign out.
so I googled the problem
I ran the systen file checker which reported a problem and said it was fixed, problem still there
I reinstalled all windows 10 app, problem still there

so I created a new user account, this fixed the problem for that account
so I tried to sign in to the newly added local account with my Microsoft account and entered my username and password
I then got a screen asking for my old password (I assume its the microsoft password)
I got a message telling me its not correct for this device (I only have one password)
So I left it blank (as per the on screen instructions)
The I got an error sccren
'oops something went wrong, its probably our fault'
and thats it, cant get any further.

So I thought Id transfer all the files and settings from my old account to the new account, and Ive hit a brick wall, how can I do this ? the new account has no knowledge og my applications, documents, pictures, etc. I just cant install everything.

Is it possible to just copy everything from one account to another ?

Im left with an unusable computer if I stick with my old account
can anyone help me ?

Hello, never had to do that, but this may help (from a quick search).

Note: if you use disk imaging regularly (e.g. Macrium Reflect free) you can always restore your PC to a previously working state- when you created the image.

It's also a full backup.

Presumably you don't have any helpful restore points.
Also recommend you turn on System restore, and set up a daily scheduled task to automatically create a restore point to help recover from such issues.

You will find some results by searching on that 'Oops' message. Not one I've had to deal with, sorry.

Yesterday I had my Tablet PC (Windows 8.1) returned after the upgrade by a technician. I have encountered some issues, some fairly minor, others more significant ---- especially Cortana and Search not working:

1. Cortana does not work. She is said to be unavailable because of the language and region that has been selected. The language is English USA (needed for the keyboard) and the region is UK / GB, surely neither of which should be causing any problems?

2. Search does not work. It generates the error 'class not registered'. I have encountered this error before, so from searching in the past I have seen that this can be caused by a number of different factors, hence it is hard to identify what to do.

I will work on the other issues after these two have been resolved.

I have visited the How To site and found that my situation is commonplace, complicated and worldwide. There are many in a similar situation in the UK. On the one hand it is comforting to know that I am not alone and others have resolved the problems --- eventually. However, on the other hand I note that many of the postings date from July, and feel it should not still be continuing to happen now.

If I have understood it, the problems revolve around getting the settings for region / display language / speech language configured in a mutually compatible way.

Help would be appreciated!

Spent all day with new laptop getting it setup. Apart from some hiccups all gone well but one glitch. Cortana works pretty much fine but the search facility isn't working properly. Say I want to 'create a restore point'. I'll type 'res' and it gets found by Cortana as per the first screenshot. But when I click the best match 'Create a restore point' I get the second screen. So it never finds it and opens it. Been like it all day even after allowing the laptop plenty of idle time. Funny thing is it's only doing it for the new settings GUI functions, you know those that have the cog wheel icon next to them. Everything else that is found can be opened, ie. word, old style control panel, files etc etc. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Wayne

A:cortana / search not working properly

Hello Wayne,

The thing that is odd is that the Create a Restore point should not be associated with the new Settings GUI but is actually a control panel function. Here is what I see on mine:
It looks like your search has made a wrong association and maybe you need to reset the search index. To do this type index in the search box and you should be able to open the control panel index options.

Then click on advanced and this will allow you to rebuild the index.

Cheers,
Phil

I upgraded my Surface Pro to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. Ever since then I have had issues with Cortana. I seem to solve them and then Microsoft releases another forced update and it gets all flaky again. Right now, I can say "Hey, Cortana" and it will hear me and show "listening" with all the letters flying by. But it can't hear my request and then tells me something is wrong. No kidding. Since I still have the ISO of Windows 8.1 on here there are no system restore points. That is what I would do first. Strangely, I have a Dell two in one that came with Windows 10 and I had to fight to get Cortana to work on there too but now it seems stable. I would surely appreciate any tips or fixes. Even if they're only temporary and have to be done over and over. I doubt I can be the only person having this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

So basically, my search is just acting really wonky on Windows 10. If I search for an app or desktop program, it shows up and I press enter or click it, and it opens just fine. But, if I search for a setting, say "Windows Update" or "Bluetooth", etc. (basically anything in the new "settings" metro app), the result appears, but I can't actually open it from the search window, clicking or pressing enter does nothing.

See sreenshots:

Note that I can still access the "Settings" app itself just fine, but when I search for an individual setting with Cortana, it shows up in results, but I can't open it.

EDIT: I thought it would be a good idea to add, I have 2 other computers also using Windows 10, and they can open search results completely fine... it only happens on this one computer.
If you need system specs I can provide.

Windows 10 Home (upgraded from W8.1)

Inspiron 17R5720 laptop

Here's the problem: Everything works fine upon boot, but then, something happens over time, and things stop working.

Start left-click not working/Start right-click works
Notification left-click not working/Notification right-click menu shows, but open action center doesn't work
Quick Launch opens and works
All icons pinned to the taskbar work including File Explorer
Cortana and search not working - can't type in box
Speaker icon left-click does not work, right-click does

This is all intermittent, and resolved with a reboot.

Something sets it off to stop working - perhaps the screensaver/lockscreen?

Fast Startup is off, hybernate off as well.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. TIA.

Hi All,
Been pulling my hair out for months working with this OS and MDT. I'm creating a master image (Golden) on a virtual machine and when the software for our organization is installed, and a test user logs into the Virtual machine for the first time, Cortana and search are disabled. Logs also show errors with initializing "Search". Here are my image build steps:
-Install OS, log into machine with default Administrator account
-Create a local administrator account. Log off of "built-In" admin account.
-Log in with "new" local administrator account.
-Install updates. Rename and join computer to domain
-Log into VM with a default domain account (Used to customize apps for domain users). Install and configure apps.
-Log off domain account. Log in with "new" local admin account
-Copy domain user account profile to the "Default" profile. Use regedit to load "Default" hive. Remove references of domain account"
-Remove domain account SID and user folder.
-Remove VM from domain
-Sysprep, and Shutdown.
When I use a domain joined account to log into the VM, Cortana and Search is disabled. When I log into the machine as the newly created "Admin" account. Search and Cortana work as expected. For some reason it seems to be permissions related to the "Apps" folder, but Im not sure. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I may or may not have an issue, as I have only moderate knowledge of the workings of my computer, and would ask if anyone would be willing to give me a once over. I have tried to reset my Firefox's default search engine to Google twice now and it refuses to stick. I had this problem once before with a Privitize VPN forced search, so I took a look around in my about:config and found something that disturbed me; I have a few instances of Babylon.com search popping up in places I don't understand, and as I know that that is linked with Privitize VPN I'm a little worried, not to mention the fact that I am being forced to search with Bing though my address bar.

I'm operating Windows Vista with Microsoft Security Essentials. I ran Malwarebytes and AdAware and neither program found anything. Below is my DDS log and I've attached the Attach and GMER logs as requested. If you need any other info please ask. Thank you!

The Truth About Microsoft's Market Research....

China is clearly the biggest marketing opportunity in the world, with a growing economy and billions of potential customers. Most Chinese speak Mandarin, sort of a universal language that connects all their ethnicities and language groups. They also like Fortune Cookies, don't we all? That's why I was quite surprised, when I opened my latest fortune cookie, and turned it over for the Mandarin lesson:

They must know what they're doing.......right???

I purchased my Inspiron December 2016. I've had several issues with Hey Cortana not working at all or occasionally after a reboot.
The only way Hey Cortana would work however, is when I have audio or video playing in the background. It doesn't matter if I had headphones, playback volume down or muted so it wasn't because of ambient noise.
Issue was reported issue to MS Insider 3 moths ago.All drivers were up to date using Dell update for my device. I then did a clean installs of both Windows AU, re-ran Dell update as well as Creators Update and the newest audio drivers from Dell didn't help.  I finally went to the Realtek site and download their drivers directly to the latest revision 2.81 version Jan 2017 solve the issue. The drivers for the i5559 need to be updated.

Is there a way to stop the middle mouse button (i.e. click of the scroll wheel) from opening Cortana/search?

Things I've tried:

1. Searched Google. No useful results. The closest I found was that Windows 10 may be confusing the click of the middle mouse button as the 3-finger tap on the touchpad - which opens Cortana/search by the default. But I don't have a touch pad. I have the Toshiba PX30T (Toshiba Qosmio PX30t 23 inch Touchscreen All-in-One PC - Black/Silver (Intel Core i3 3120M 2.5GHz Processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8 64-Bit): Amazon.co.uk: Computers Accessories).

2. Tried re-configuring the middle mouse button in (a) Windows 10 Settings > Devices > Mouse & touchpad, (b) Control Panel > Mouse, and (c) my desktop's manufacturer's System Settings utility application (upgraded just now from their website). Interestingly, none of those three configuration tools had any control setting for the middle mouse button.

It is obvious that Windows 10 doesn't "fully" support the wireless mouse that comes with my PC.

My question then is...

Is there a way to "unbind" the middle mouse button from opening Cortana/search? For example, via the Registry Editor - maybe?

Thanks for any replies!

I have a new HP Pavilion Laptop computer with Windows 10. System info is listed below this message.

Each time I login to Windows a Bing pop up window appears on my Desktop which I have to close. I have attached a picture to this message. Google Chrome is my default browser.

I have had a Costco Concierge technician work with me on this and he suggested I make Google search my default search engine which I have done. The pop up then disappeared for a few days and then returned. A Google search revealed that Bing is part of the Windows OS, is tied into Cortana and therefore cannot be deleted. Any instructions on how to keep this annoying window from appearing is greatly appreciated

A:An annoyance - Bing search engine

Step 1
Select the "Chrome Menu" icon resembling three horizontal lines and select "Settings."
Step 2
Select "Google" in the "Search" section. If, for some reason, Google does not dislay, click "Manage Search Engines" and select "Google" from the list of available options.
Step 3
Close the "Settings" window and then restart the browser.
Also, make sure that Bing is not set in IE as your 'default' search provider.

Hello and thank you for advance for the help. Two days ago I had a virus mimicking a Windows 7 antivirus program. This program would provide increasing difficulty with remaining logged in to Windows, and I was eventually forced to do a System Restore. The problem seems to be fixed, except that I now notice I have a problem using search engines. After the search I am able to click on one result to get to the correct website, but any other results I use off the same search are redirected to random "search result" sites. I am forced to right click on the result I want on Google or Bing and open a new tab in order to view legitimate search results. I had to reinstall windows xp on a pc the other day and after running windows update IE8 locked the search provider to bing. Under manage search providers I was unable to change the default search from bing. I was unable to uncheck the box allowing programs to suggest changes to my default search engine.
I repair pcs from my home and on this particular day I was working on someone else's pc. I had to hold pc for an extra day and redo OS again to rectify issue. I haven't had time to see if there's a trojan floating around causing this issue but thought I'd poll the community to see if anyone else ran into this issue or knew the cause?

A:Member Poll Bing search?

I have the same problem as of yesterday. I udpdated to IE 8 and the installation information assured me that my previous settings would be kept. I had Google as my default search engine, but now bing is the default. When I try to change it back to google and remove bing, I can click the google as default and disable bing (so I thought), but the remove button is whited out, so I can't remove it (of course, it will let me remove google). BUT - when getting offline and then back on, the bing setting is restored as the default search and a message box comes up that says a 'program' is not letting the settings remain as previously set and has reverted back to bing. Very fishy. Do you think Microsoft is pushing the bing to compete with yahoo and google?
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

I've tried everything I can think of to stop this. Any suggestions?
