I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have 24 desktop computers running windows 7, 3 servers running windows Server 2008 STD and 15 servers running windows Server 2008 R2 STD. All of them have the same problems with SNMP service.  I am using SNMP monitoring software which
polls information every 2 minutes using SNMP. All of these computers stop responding to SNMP GET messages after a while, this can be hours or days eventually SNMP will stop responding. The only way to fix this is to restart SNMP service or restart computer.
I have looked at windows system logs and see the same message on all of my computers :
Event 1501, SNMP. The SNMP Service encountered an error while setting up the incoming transports.\n The IP transport has been dropped out.
I have googled this type of problem, there was a bug in Vista and 2008 server with the same Event ID.
KB967800 article is explaining the same symptoms what I am having. Unfortunately I can't apply those hotfix to my computers because I am running different OS versions.
Any suggestions?

Hi guys,
A client is planning on setting up a call center using an E1 line, that a telephony company has already provided with a toll free number. they want about 20 workstations and a wallboard screen should also be included. the hardware (cisco) isn't the problem
but the software bit that will be able to ensure reports on all incoming, outgoing, received and missed calls is the problem. If anyone has a clue on the best software for the job kindly assist.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experience of connecting Cisco Nexus 5548UPs (or any device in the N5K range) to Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager (DCNM)? We are migrating from end of row MDS9500's to top of rack N5K's and the legacy Fabric Manager we were using to manage the zone sets on the MDS's doesn't work with the N5K's so we need to move to DCNM.

I've been able to get the MDS 9500's connected as a DCNM data source but can't get a N5K to connect. Some detail of the N5K addition process:

Go to Admin > Data Sources
Fabric Seed Switch = IP of Mgmt 0 on N5K
SNMP = v3/SSH
Auth-Privacy = tried all options
User name = tried local and RADIUS user accounts
Password = as appropriate
Limit discovery by VSAN = unticked
Enable NPV discovery = ticked (default)

When trying the various local and AAA accounts, I can see the requests hitting the ACS server and being authorised. I've tried removing the AAA config on the N5K's which made no difference when trying local accounts.

The errors we get vary depending on which Auth-Privacy setting is used - sometimes it's a timeout message "Discovery is taking longer than 2 minutes. Please return later to check status in table", sometimes "Cannot authenticate snmp user:null/<ipAddress> Unknown User or Password" <- This one is interesting, why does it say "user:null"?

Does anyone have experience of this? If so, would you mind sharing any ... Read more

A:Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager & Nexus 5K

It's been a while since I've played with the Nexus and MDS switches. The issue I had was when the N5010 first came out. I wasn't able to get the zoning I set up on the MDS 9216i to replicate across to the N5010. I ended up having to do everything manually.

I recently purchased a N5010 for my home lab. I haven't had time to fully spin it up with DCNM yet. But I wouldn't be able to help you much as I'll be either breaking out the FC traffic on Brocade switches or coming off of the N5010 with native FC as I have the FC module installed in the switch.

Sorry I couldn't be much help.

I recently bought this Gateway computer and initially when I clicked on the IE icon I was on the internet instantly.

Now, when I click on the icon I get a mostly white screen with a task bar but nothing else. I get the swirling thing but nothing loads. The window won't close. When I finally do a control, alt, del and the task manager comes up, a few seconds later the IE screen loads. I get a Google screen but if I click on one of my Favorites it won't load without the control, alt, delete scenario.

If I go to one of my email accounts, they may or may not load (Hotmail is particularly bad). I usually get the swirling thing forever. Until I do another control, alt, del I go nowhere.

Hi all,

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 that is little more than two months old. So far, it's run well with the exception of a few ATI driver-related crashes that have cropped up at random intervals (attributed to atikmdag.sys). I've since updated the drivers to the latest version, so I believe those crashes should have been taken care of; however, just two days ago, I began getting unexpected kernel trap BSODs that I don't recall having before. I've already gotten 3 BSODs in just over 24 hours, twice when I was away from the computer, once when I was in the middle of doing some digital painting (luckily I hadn't made any major changes to my work, so nothing was really lost). I've used BlueScreenView to check what the possible cause may be, but it only seems to point to ntoskrnl.exe, which I don't think is the real culprit. I also ran Memtest86+ overnight and it turned up no errors after 6 passes.

Right now, the computer appears stable, but I'm concerned that I might get another BSOD at any moment, since the crashes are hard to predict and I haven't been able to narrow down what the cause may be. I haven't made any changes to hardware since purchasing the PC, and the last software change I recall making was updating iTunes on the same day the crashes began... although again I'm not entirely sure or convinced that it's behind the problem.

I've attached a zip of the minidumps and my dxdiag info, and hope that someone may be able to analyze them for me. Any help would be ... Read more

A:Unexpected Kernel Traps

Really hate to bump this so soon, but I just got another BSOD, again an unexpected kernel mode trap. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I've never gotten daily crashes like this, and it's starting to get worrisome.

I also do not have ZoneAlarm installed, so that definitely isn't the problem.

I've gone ahead and uninstalled iTunes just in case, though I'm pretty sure that's not the cause, either. I might try installing SP1 as mentioned in the 'how to' forum and see if that works. Thanks in advance again for any help.

Currently whatever is on my computer won't let me access Windows Update. The last updates I would have had are a few days ago using automatic updating.

I first had a problem when i opened an old video file and the computer tried opening Limewire (I had previously removed it from my system). Soon I lost my Notification area Icons and couldnt open Task Manager. I got an error on a dll called hyiobokr.dll in the Windows\System32 directory.

Very soon popups for Vista Antivirus and Spybot Activescan showed up, with others as well. All these were closed without accessing anything on them.

I performed the actions in your first five steps, I now have the Notification Items back and can call up Task Manager. I still have random popups occurring when I am using the web browser and even when I am not using it. I use IE 7 and Firefox 3.

First question is what type of ISP service do you have and how many devices? If you want to connect 5 devices, you'll need 5 static IPs from your ISP. The reason is that 3500xl switch is a layer 2 switch only. Which means there is no routing /layer 3 functionality.

Hi,

I just joined and im really hoping someone on here can offer some help to this problem

I have Net-SNMP 5.4.1 (windows installation) and im trying to send an SNMP version 3 packet to a firewall - by using the snmpwalk command.

I can walk the firewall using the following:

snmpwalk -c public -v 1 192.168.3.1 (since its version 1 , this works and i get streams of data)

But thats not what im trying..

When i try:
snmpwalk -c public -v 3 192.168.3.1
It returns "snmpwalk: No securityName specified"

I have tried setting up users using the snmpusm command but its just not working, i also tried i-
"net-snmp-config --create-snmpv3-user -a "my_password" myuser" but this syntax doesnt look correct - even though ive taken it from the website - net-snmp-config isnt a recognised command.

i also tried adding

createUser netadmin MD5 "netadminpassword" DES
rouser netadmin

To the snmp.conf file, but it just says unknown token: CreateUser unknwn token:rouser (this is all in the C:/usr/etc/snmp/snmp.conf file) I have no snmpd.conf file that i can find anyway.

A:Net-SNMP - SNMPv3

Assuming the FW you're polling supports SNMPV3 and you have a username setup?

snmpwalk -v3 -n "" -u username -l password hostname system

This will walk the system OID for the target.

SNMP and RMON are 2 protocols I'm not familiar with, although I've read about them both. I would really like to get some good hands on experience with the 2 to get a better understanding.

I have quite a few machines to test with plus VM's. I run vista and XP, router is a linksys wrt54gs running dd-wrt which I think has support for SNMP.

What would one recommend to get started in a small lab setup to implement SNMP and RMON as I'm a bit confused here.

I do have SNMP installed on my main rig running Vista Ultimate 32-bit via "windows features", but as far as the community strings and managing it is where I'm lost.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I passed the practice tests in the book, but I'd much rather have hands on then learn from a book and not fully understand

I got a router having two Lan ports last week, and it generally seems to work - I can use the web interface, ssh to it, and use snmp.

However, while it continues to route to the Internet just fine, after 2-3 days all the management functions stop working!

I can still browse the internet, use port-forwarding access services from outside, and it still re-connects if I disconnect the phone line and re-connect it!

However if I try to access the web interface it connects, but never, or very very rarely, returns a page.

Similary, if I try with ssh it connects, but eventually times out without being able to login.

I'm also using snmp to graph bandwidth data, and there are substantial gaps - the graph goes for about a day, then stops, which about coincides with when router becomes inaccessible.

Bear in mind that the router continues to router throughout this, so its kind of functioning OK.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Hiya

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet standard
protocol for managing disparate network devices such as firewalls,
computers, and routers. All versions of Windows except Windows ME
provide an SNMP implementation, which is neither installed nor
running by default in any version.

A buffer overrun is present in all implementations. By sending a
specially malformed management request to a system running an
affected version of the SNMP service, an attacker could cause a
denial of service. In addition, it is possible that he cause code
to run on the system in LocalSystem context. This could
potentially give the attacker the ability to take any desired
action on the system.

A patch is under development to eliminate the vulnerability.
In the meantime, Microsoft recommends that customers who use the
SNMP service disable it temporarily. Patches will be available
shortly, at which time we will re-release this bulletin with
updated details.

and as soon as I get it, I'll post it on this thread

Affected Software:

Microsoft Windows 95
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 98SE
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP

Is anyone familiar with Net-SNMP in the windows environment?

I installed it through OpenXtra Commander and have just started using it and I am having problems pulling a table.

I can poll tables from the device at
1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2
1.3.6.1.2.1.3.1
1.3.6.1.2.1.4.20
etc all the way through the UDP branch at 1.3.6.1.2.1.7.5 with no problem but I cant pol 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3 - the dot1dTpFdbTable.

running an SNMPTranslate on dot1dBridge (mib-2.17) gives the following:

C:\Program Files\OPENXTRA\NET-SNMP\usr\bin>snmptranslate -IR -On dot1dBase
Unknown object identifier: dot1dBase

I've copied BRIDGE-MIB into C:\Program Files\OPENXTRA\NET-SNMP\mibs

which includes the line

dot1dBridge OBJECT IDENTIFIER ::= { mib-2 17 }

but it still wont recognize the dot1dBase node.

This is obviously something I'm doing wrong. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks!

A:Solved: Net-SNMP

Running the following command line causes the program to crash:

snmptable -m +BRIDGE-MIB -v 2c -c ****** 192.168.0.1 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3

WAIT! JUST GOT IT! Correct form:
snmptable -m +BRIDGE-MIB -v 1 -c ****** 192.168.0.1 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3

Thanks anyway

I have a stack of 2 switches (1 Dell PowerConnect 3348 & 1 Dell PowerConnect 3324).

Is there a way to determine, via SNMP, what type of switches make up the stack?

A:SNMP Guru help needed

Confusing post:
SNMP will tell you stats on your supported devices. For instance my wireless bridge only supports mods/dlls for two commercial SNMP apps which means I can't access the mib on them with the software I'm using now.

Check your switch manual.

p.s. not a guru just a goo.

Hi,

I got a problem with my SNMP service on a Windows 2000 server!

When I boot the server and logs on I can see that the snmp.exe is running but then it closes!

When I look in the Event Viewer I get: SNMP service successfully stopped but I would really like to have it started instead because I have HP Foundation and agent that relies on this service.

If I try to start the service again it tells me it can't be started!

I have tried sfc /scannow without any luck

Anyone have any idea of why it dies or know of any logs that could tell me more about why it stops

Thanks in advanced

Kevin Petersen

A:SNMP stopped succesfully :-/

The error I get when I try to start the SNMP service again is:

"Could not start the SNMP Service service on Local Computer.
The service did not return an error. his could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error.
If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."

Any help at all?

Hello ! I would like to create rdd graphs with snmp. I want to monitor a switch (for example).

I have 4 scripts doing that for 'ping' command, can you help me do it for 'snmp' please (like : snmpwalk -v 1 -c public SwitchIP 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2)

Here are my scripts :

create

Code:
#!/bin/bash
rrdtool create rtt.rrd --step 1\
DS:rtt:GAUGE:3:U:U\
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:10\
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:10:6\
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:60:5
oneping

Code:
#!/bin/bash
i=0
while [ 0 ];
do
i=$(expr \( $i + 1 \) % 300)
read a
rtt=$(echo $a | sed s/time=// | cut -d' ' -f 7)
./update $rtt $i
sleep 1
done

ping

Code:
#!/bin/bash
ping $1 | ./oneping
update

Code:
#!/bin/bash
if [ $# -ne 2 ]; then exit
fi
echo $1
date=$(date +%s)
rrdtool update rtt.rrd $date:$1

t10=$(expr $date - 10)
t60=$(expr $date - 60)
t300=$(expr $date - 300)

rrdtool graph p10.png --start $t10\
--x-grid SECOND:1:SECOND:5:SECOND:2:0:%X\
DEF:mp=rtt.rrd:rtt:AVERAGE LINE2:mp#FC0000 > /dev/null

min=$(expr $2 % 10)
fmin=$(expr $2 % 60)

if [ $min -eq 0 ]
then
rrdtool graph p60.png --start $t60\
--x-grid SECOND:10:SECOND:30:SECOND:30:0:%X\
DEF:mp=rtt.rrd:rtt:AVERAGE LINE2:mp#FC0000 > /dev/null
fi
if [ $fmin -eq 0 ]; then
rrdtool graph p300.png --start $t300\
DEF:mp=rtt.rrd:rtt:AVERAGE LINE2:mp#FC0000 > /dev/null
fi
Thank you for your help !

I would like to start using windows snmp but I have a few general questions:

1. Has anybody here used SNMP on Windows?

2. It seems that the agent only supports versons 1 2c, is this not insecure?

3. If I wanted to make sure that is was installed via group policy, how would I do this. It is a part of windows, but I don't fancy going round to every machine with a CD and doing the whole add/remove windows components. This would be stupid. Could I create an MSI or would that create a problem later?

4. Is the SNMP agent on windows extensible, can I get it to export tests from scripts etc via OIDs the way you can with net-snmp for example?

5. Does windows SNMP agent suck and should I be trying to use something else?
Thanks for the feedback.

Yes. Just about anybody who actually manages a system/that's concerned about alerting and reporting.

It's all relative. V1 is quite outdated. V2c encrypts the community string, but the payload is clear text. As SOP you can/should limit communities by host/subnet. i.e. to ensure that only a certain source is allowed to poll or receive traps.

Don't know what you mean by extensible. You can snmpwalk a host with NET::SNMP. Microsoft uses the majority of the UCDavis MIB (defactor for Intel systems)

I know Windows only supported up to SNMPv2c till Windows XP/2000. Can someone please confirm whether that has changed in Vista/7? Can't seem to find that information in MSDN.

Thanks in advance!
