Exception unknown software exception errors

Q: Exception unknown software exception errors

Having problems with my computer running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3. Had a virus that attacked a different computer on our network and ran Malwarebytes, Spybot and Avast. All scans came up clean. If I leave the computer for awhile (several hours) my "All Programs" list goes away, the list of recently used applications is gone and if I try to do a Shutdown or Restart it comes back that "I am not authorized to do that". I am now also getting exception errors:
"exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the application at location 0x01006a25" and "explorer.exe application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d)". In an effort to try stop antivirus programs from conflicting with each other, I uninstalled malwarebytes and have avast running in resident and Spybot not in resident but demand only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi - Is this ever followed by "Click Ok to terminate the program" ? ? It may be a minor infection, or just an Error post -Install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from This Mirror to your desktop.* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.* When completed, a log will open in Notepad form. Please tell us if any infections were found -Thank You -

What do you have running in the backround when you try and shut down?

Try exiting all the taskbar programs in turn and doing a shutdown after each , hopefully this will show which app is causing the issue.

I have not detected anything wrong with the operation of the program. I ran a "repair" install of MSOffice2003Pro; still happens. A:Unknown Software Exception

Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed and uninstall any software you removed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.

If that doesn't work, try a clean boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit causing the problem. Follow the procedures in the article. Once found, delete, remove, deactivate, or uninstall it. Once done be sure to reset Vista back to normal status as explained in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal status and reboot - this solution is not going to work.

Boot into Safe mode with networking and see if the problem occurs there. Either result helps us narrow down the search for the cause.

I hope this helps. If not, post back with results.

Good luck!

When I play a game called Combat Arms. Whatever browser I use will freeze, and then crash. This only happened immediately after I was sent a request to add a player, "UltraBooster" in Combat Arms Messenger. Combat Arms Messenger is like Windows Live Messenger where you can text/type people messages before, during, after game and in the lobby.

The freezing and browser crashing does not happen with my other two account's. The Messenger seems like it has been disabled with the one account only. When I attempt to open Combat Arms Messenger I get a pop-up that says:

"Combat_Arms : Engine.exe - Application Error

The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000417) occurred in the application at location 0x3764a2f4

Click on OK to terminate the program."

In the past I could be in-game for hours and never have IE crash. This has been on-going for close to a month now. There has been two support ticket's to Nexon with little to no help. In addition I have scanned my HD for application error's, driver's and virus problem's numerous times. All are free and clear. I have used IE and Mozilla FireFox, both with the same error. This is in addition to going back to the default setting's in the browser and disabling all of the add-ons. The hexadecimal address (Ox3764a2f4) has not been documented anywhere. Right now I am at a loss.

A:Unknown Software Exception

Hello spazy and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. Am using a non valid windows xp (am unable to load SP2)That is a problem in and of itself. Non-legitimate and non-patched copies of XP will always have problems. We can try a few things but I cannot guarantee that they will work. Also, disabling the RPC service will cause many additional problems since there are many processes and services dependent upon it. You should re-enable it or you may find many applications will not run.First print these directions and then perform the following steps in order:Step #1Download Brute Force UninstallerUnzip it to it?s own folder (c:\BFU)RIGHT-CLICK HERE ( http://metallica.geekstogo.com/EGDACCESS.bfu ) and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download EGDACCESS Remover. Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU)Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by double-clicking BFU.exeIn the scriptline to execute copy and paste c:\bfu\EGDACCESS.bfuPress execute and let it do it?s job.Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.Press exit to terminate the BFU program.Step #2ImportantYour copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. Please open My Compute... Read more

OK, my OS is Windows 7 64-bit. Recently when I started my computer, a message pops up which reads, "The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occured in the application at location 0x0029fa4d. Click OK to terminate the program."

The funny thing is, once I click OK, my laptop seems to be working fine. However this is an irritating pop up and does anyone here have any idea what this means? I seem to be getting this pop up when I removed a few toolbars from Internet Explorer. Before this, I had no problems whatsoever, so I suspect that this has got to do with my Internet Explorer.

Please advise! Thanks!

The 0x40000015 error may be caused by windows system files damage. There can be many events which may have resulted in the system files errors. An incomplete installation, an incomplete uninstall, improper deletion of applications or hardware. It can also be caused if your computer is recovered from a virus or adware/spyware attack or by an improper shutdown of the computer. All the above activities may result in the deletion or corruption of the entries in the windows system files. This corrupted system file will lead to the missing and wrongly linked information and files needed for the proper working of the application.

I don't see the viral files mentioned in Running Tasks, however I do see a startup call for a bogus svchost.exe

Use HijackThis to check and 'fix' this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WindowsSetup] C:\WINNT\Config\Setup\Microsoft\svchost.exe

Then navigate to that folder and delete or rename svchost.exe

Do not confuse it with the one in c:\winnt\system32

If you get access denied messages restart in Safe Mode and do the same. Try running NAV in Safe Mode as well

Get the rpc patch as soon as possible.

For a long time now i have been getting BSOD's, pretty much all of the time from System Service Exception and KMode Exception Not Handled. Sometimes the PC never gets to the BSOD and just freezes up and restarts. This happens at any time whether im doing nothing or on the internet, sometimes it happens before the PC can load up fully. Most of the time though it happens when i am gaming. I rebuilt most of my PC but this still carried on. The parts that i have replaces are the PSU, RAM, Graphics Card and the case as well as adding in 2 extra fans. The temperature stays withing good values. The PC also often gets stuck on the post boot screen where it says "SMART Check Capable and OK" and it will take a few minutes for it to get past this stage and carry on loading, but this doesnt happen not all the time. I have tried diagnosing this myself but i have hit a wall. I ran Seatools and the HDD failed all of the tests, however after checking the fail code this was simply because it couldnt find the serial number. The HDD then passed tests from both CrystalDiskInfo and DiskCheckup. I thought that it was either the HDD or the MB as they are the only components not to be replaced. Since HDD seems to have passed its SMART tests i am inclined to believe it is the MB. PLEASE HELP!!!

I keep getting Exception Code 3221225477 with Exception Address 005019A9 on my computer when I start it up and sometimes during my use of the computer.
It just started up after I put a cannon camera photostitch program on my computer. I have deleted. Then I did all the updateds that were needed plus cleaning out my computer(defragmenting, disk clean up, removing temporary files).
I even went in and stopped programs from starting up when I turn on my computer to make it faster and to see if it was one of them that was causing the problem. It still keeps coming up. Does anyone know why this happens?

My message comes up as

Unexpected Error
An Unexpected error has occured and this application will close. Then the exception code and exception address follows.
Exception Code 3221225477 Exception Address 005019A9

But when I click on ok nothing closes and I can work on my computer. Then sometimes during the course of working on the computer, the message comes up again but again nothing closes.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any replies.

My guess is that there is a Startup entry which you need to remove. Some remain behind even when a given program may thought to have been completely uninstalled.I'd use AutoRuns for Windows - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx to take a look at the items listed on the Logon tab and see if any apparently relate to your troublesome program. If so, I would delete it, but you can either disable or delete that startup item.Louis

Hi Guys,

I'm a composer working on a deadline and have started to experience quite intermittent BSOD's.
It appears to happen at higher system loads.
I'm reasonably experienced in building custom machines (this is my third on), and so far have never experienced issues with them.
This current one is a racked i7 3930K Hexacore on a Sabertooth x79, with 32gb of Ramm and a GTX470.
I'm using Nuendo 6 in 64 bit mode (Cubase's bigger brother) with an RME Fireface 800.
The fireface runs via firewire and has its own pcie card for this.
In addition there is an external G-tech drive connected via Esata.

In the last week I've been having 1-3 bsod's a day..a real productivity killer and I hope someone can help me out. I've used Whocrashed to at least get an indication of what it might be, but I don't have much experience with minidumps.

The only thing that I have noticed is that Windows is attempting a surface scan during startup, which fails due to a 'recently installed software package' I have no idea what that might be.
I've not been able to do a diskchk on C:
Regardless, C: seems to work fine and I've not noticed any issues.

Drivers are pretty much up to date.

I'm attaching a dump, would someone mind having a look and giving me a clue? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure that there's a way to add files as exception or add to ignore list. I am running Symantec Antivurs Corporate Edition v. Anyone know how to do this?

Does this need to be done on the AV server, or can it be done any client machine that 's running the AV?

I purchased a new computer the previous week and I have been fighting with it for this whole time.
To explain the whole story
I received two BSODs, on the 20th and 23rd with Thread Exceptions. The first was while I was browsing the Internet, the second while playing Planetside 2. Upon heavy research both on these forums and the wider Internet, and the first check of installing everything on my Motherboard's Website (Upgraded BIOS before BSODs), upgrades intel_ime etc., various drivers, I came upon the Intel RST. Upon hitting that, it basically installed the program and updated the OCZ Vertex3 SSD Drivers, (or so Windows said). So far, I have not had any BSODs (two days ago).

I ran Driver Verifier for over 36 hours, only to come back between the 34th and 40th hour (was at work during that period) to find my Razer Hardware frozen and unresponsive. This, I do not believe to be a problem with the computer, but with Razer's Synapse, as I also ran BlueScreenView, WhatisHang and WhoCrashed while verifying drivers, and saw no hangs/errors. I reset the computer, did sfc /scannow and an extensive chkdsk (for around the 5th time in the past few days) and found no integrity violations/errors.

I am at a loss of what it might have been, and IF the whole updating drivers thing, or making sure they are updated has fixed it. I am seeking help to both put my mind at ease, or see if I have faulty hardware which I can take back to the manufacturer and replaced.

The fact of the matter remains... Read more

Welcome aboard.

You are suggested to run Disk Check. For both of your HDDs.
Reseat the sata and power.
Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.

I've borrowed a friend's Canon Digital Rebel EOS camera for a wedding, and I really need to get the photos off of the memory cards. It seems the only way to get my Windows 98 to do this is to d/l the TWAIN driver from the Canon site, which I did. I got about 100 photos off of the first memory card two days ago, then came back to finish up with the other cards. To do this, I open Photoshop, then File > Import > Canon EOS Kiss Rebel 300D USB... and then a separate window opens with thumbnails of all the photos. I select the photos I want to import, then click File > Transfer images in that TWAIN window, and it's supposed to go about transferring the photos into Photoshop. Like I said, it worked perfectly right after I installed it two days ago, but suddenly, it does one of two things: 1) doesn't load the thumbnails at all (just a bunch of blank, grey squares), or 2) loads the thumbnails just fine, but locks up Photoshop when it tries to transfer the images.

Sometimes I get error messages about insufficient memory, and sometimes I get a blue screen that says, "A fatal exception OE has occurred at O16F:BFF9DFFF. The current application will be terminated." Most of the time I don't get anything, the Close Program dialog won't come up, nothing responds and I have to restart.

I really need to find some way of getting these photos off (I have about 900 +/- I have to transfer, so emailing or burning to CD from other computers is kind ... Read more

A:Fatal exception errors, from TWAIN driver?

At this stage I would go with the last resort first, Windows 98 is flakey at best with USB connections, Canon don't always follow the rules either.

My main concern is that you may end up corrupting the images that are still there, and given their improtance you may want to play safe, use another later version of Winows (another PC) and a card reader.

In any event, a card reader would give a better result for you even now than trying to interface such an old OS to a Canon, provided you can find a reader with drivers that works OK with 98. It's bit better with 98SE, but you only mention 98 in your post.

I recently built myself a new computer, but I seem to be having some trouble with games. In every single game I've tried installing (most notably Dungeon Siege, Homeworld, and Homeworld: Cataclysm) I get crashes at random intervals. I've been able to run the Homeworld games for over an hour at times without any problems, but Dungeon siege crashes just about every minute!

Dungeon siege gives me the error, "Exception Detected!" and then tells me that it needs to close the program.

Here's my computer setup

Athlon XP 2400+
Soyo Dragon KT-400 Ultra Mobo
1 Gig Mushkin Blue 3200 DDR 400 (tested for errors using memtest 86)
120 Gig Western Digital Hard Disk
Radeon 9500 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
TDK Velo-CD CD/RW (52x/24x/32x)
Standard Floppy Disk Drive.
Koolance EXOS cooling system Connected to the Processor, Video Card, and Mobo Chipset
Windows XP Pro SP1
The latest graphics and sound drivers.
Direct X 9.0b

Here's what I've tried so far.

Reinstalling the games several times.
Defragging and running Checkdisk (bad sector search)
Running the games with only DX 8.1
Running the games with only minimal drivers, no other programs installed.
Disabling Write Caching and DMA on my hard drives.

On a related note, a couple of my media players, such as the Core Media Player and Winamp 3 have been crashing as well.

I'm totally at a loss. Please help!

After the patch, I unset the compatability settings just to see if it made any difference. It works fine with no compatability set.

About a week ago on my Dell inspiron running XP I started to get this error and asking for a new instance of VS2005 when I would browse Interent Explorer. If I choose no IE would crash and I would have to start over. I didnt think anything of it since IE always crashes one way or another

As of last night. Upon a fresh boot I started getting this same win32 exception error in about 15 different programs during startup including svchost.exe

My network adapter would disable and I could not enable it until I did another reboot

I cannot get to a system restore. The screen is blank. If I try to do a shutdown the computer just freezes on the "Wait while Windows shuts down"

I've scanned my computer with Avast, SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes and they have found nothing.

What could be wrong here?

Earlier today, my computer (which has been failing on Windows Update recently), started blue screening with the error "System Exception Not Handled." The computer would then continuously restart and go straight to that BSOD. After googling the issue, I (after many failed attempts) managed to enter safe mode and uninstalled/updated the GPU. The computer worked for the next few hours, and is now randomly blue screening again with similar errors, except it's not a loop like previously.

Only recent change/download/installation is I have begun using the TRENDnet AC600 Dual Band Wireless USB Adapter so that I can access our 5GHz Wi-Fi network.

I have attached the requested files. Thank you for your help!

Hi, I have Windows Vista Business 64-bit, and everytime I try to shutdown, at least six programs throw this exception.
I did a quick search and a couple people back in January had the same problem.
I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad and at least three of the programs are Lenovo-related. The two other programs are RoboForm, which functions perfectly minus this exception, and RivaTuner, same as RoboForm, works like a charm but throws the exception on system shutdown.

Can anyone explain this? I went into the Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and Ctrl+F for TPONSCR.exe (ThinkPad Onscreen Display) and found the actual error:

Application popup: tpvolbar: TPONSCR.exe - Application Error : The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x02549080.

Click on OK to terminate the program

All the errors are the same, except the memory location (obviously).
It doesn't really disrupt anything but it is rather annoying everytime I shutdown my system.
Thanks for the reply.

A:Software exception (0xc0000005) on Shutdown

0xc0000005 just means "access denied", but in this case it's referring to wild memory writes, not necessarily permissions in the file or registry sense. The fact that you're using the word "throws" in conjunction with exceptions suggests to me that you may already understand the mechanism

It's almost impossible to guess why the crash is occurring based on those data alone, so you might want to start by first updating all of those applications. Perhaps newer versions contain fixes.

I recently installed some software for USB wireless adapters, and then began having the following issue. At one point, after restarting, I had no welcome screen (I posted about this on another thread). But then a few days later, I moved the computer, restarted, and it worked fine, but then this issue started again:

I was using Word. After a couple of hours, Word started acting "buggy"--chunks of text disappearing off the screen, for example--I closed Word, then tried to restart it, and got this error message:

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812afb."

I restarted my computer, and it worked fine. But, if it all goes down like it did before, I expect to have this issue again, and possibly the no welcome screen eventually, too.

Google search seems to indicate that this is an OS issue, so hopefully it makes sense to post here--if not, I'll repost elsewhere.

Could this be related to the adapters' software? Could it be something else?

Any advice on how to fix this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A:Help! I'm getting error: software exception (0xc06d007e)

The adapters driver or software program may be conflicting with other applications. If removing the driver and program do not make improvements then I would consider doing a HDD Diagnostic test. Download the Seatools for DOS Iso Image and burn it with IMGBurn boot off of the newly created CD and run the diagnostic tests for your drive.

Hi all im new here,Grab yourself a coffee / tea this is a long one !

For the last 2 weeks my computer which is circa 3 years old is starting to crash quite abit. I am due an upgrade and was going to sell off some bits, but I am having trouble working out which peice of my hardware is causing problems, thus not wanting to buy new kit when the old kit is not faulty.

The i7 920 is overclocked to 3.5ghz alkas nero cooler, v core is 1.26v, cpu temp on idle is 39 - 45 degrees, running Arma 2 it moves up to circa 56 degrees. Motherboard is an Asus P6T6WS revolution with the latest bios. Graphics card is XFX 295 GTX, with latest drivers.

Then :
The problem started when the computer used to randomly freeze (Mainly just as the welcome screen comes up) Then apon reboot id notice my Graphics card drivers disappered and that I had to reisntall them.

I decided to do a format, and after about 3 installation attempts (One attempt ended in my screen going RED tint colour) to get a fresh installation.
I opened up the computer and gave everthing a real clean, this seemed to cure the Red screen issue. As well as a bios reflash

Now :
Most of the time everying runs fine including games, HD video rendering with Sony vegas pro 9 etc.
Then suddenly I get a BSOD crash, normally Machine check exception error, sometomes the clock interrupt not recieved. When I restart the computer and load back into windows I notice the sound is jittery as if there is a loose wire. Loading up a game is also la... Read more

Hello dirtbag.

upgrade the network driver: Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It goes back to Thu Feb 26 14:34:13 2009. And most of the error entries are associated with it.

Download the network card driver from manufactuer's website Realtek
Then reinstall the driver:
Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Menu Search box and press Enter.
Double click to expand "Network adaptors".
Right click your network card and click Uninstall.
Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK.
Restart the computer
If windows does not auto configure the appropriate drivers at startup, install the downloaded one manually.
