I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please let me apologize in advance for being a noob. This is my better attempt to comply with the posting requirements. I previously posted in another thread but left out some important things. I marked it as 'solved' and started a new thread. The zip files are still attached to the old thread at: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...ok-466908.html

Last week, I clicked on a pop-up disguised as a warning about an attack from Microsoft Security Essentials. The situation felt terribly familiar to what I had done last year with an infected pop up disguised to look like Microsoft Security Center. Both times I backed out without fully downloading and the last time I was for sure left with an infection.

The symptoms are different, though. At that time, the security software I was using (Windows Live One Care, I think) kept detecting & removing the infection - which would just have returned (and sometimes with some friends) by the next scan.

This time, MSE detected and removed 4 programs (they were also listed as quarantined items - which have since been removed through the MSE control panel). Since they were removed, all MSE scans come back clean. I also downloaded and ran TrendMicro House Call which came back clean as well.

These are the 4 programs that MSE found and removed:

Hello and thank you in advance for helping me with this.

Last week, Microsoft Security Essentials detected and removed the following 4 programs:

containerfile:C:\Users\sq\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\NZKNTEO4\s2[1].htm
file:C:\Users\sq\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\NZKNTEO4\s2[1].htm->(SCRIPT0000)

Since then, all MSE scans come back clean. I also tried running a scan with Trend Micro House Call, which also came back clean.

Today, everyone in my hotmail address book received an email from my account with only a link to a hazardous google site.

I checked my 'Send' folder an see no such emails being sent. For security, I already changed my email password but don't think that was the only problem.

Here is the DDS scan and the Attach and GMER fil... Read more

I should add that the infection that happened last week was due to a pop up that I clicked on that was disguised as the MSE security software. I did click on the link, but backed out & shut down through the task manager before completely downloading. I'm afraid it was too late, though.

Nothing was changed in Hotmail to my knowledge, i.e. contact list was not deleted. I deleted the contents myself and left only a second email I use to see if more messages get sent out. So far nothing today....

I hope I'm being thorough enough, but if I could provide anything more, please let me know.

Thank you,

Hi there,

I'm hoping somebody can help!

My Hotmail account has been copromised in some kind of way. It keeps sending out e-mails with the subject of 'Hi' and the base of the message includes a link to a site called easybuyshopcn.com. I also lost all my e-mails in my inbox for the last 2 months. I scanned my computer using Norton, Spybot S + D and Lavasoft Ad-Aware and have cleared all of the results but it still seems to be sending these e-mails out automatically.

I have done a scan using Hijack This and have attached the log file.

If anyone can help at all, I'd be really graetful.

Thanks for taking the time to read...

Hello and welcome. we need to do some scans and change your router password.Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds). If you don?t know the router's default password, you can look it up HERE.However, if there are other Zlob-infected machines using the same router, they will need to be cleared with the above steps before resetting the router. Otherwise, the malware will simply go back and change the router's DNS settings. You also need to reconfigure any security settings you had in place prior to the reset. Check out this site HERE for video tutorials on how to properly configure your router's encryption and security settings. You may also need to consult with your Internet service provider to find out which DNS servers your network should be using.Once you have ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on the infected system, and reset the router to its default configuration you can reconnect to the internet, and router.MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfe... Hi Everyone,

Here's my mini dilemma: Am attempting to delete unused email addresses from my hotmail (free) account. When I attempt to delete a contact (by check marking their address and then hitting delete) I am asked: "am I sure I want to delete this contact". When I answer yes I get an error message at the top of the screen with a yellow box. The error message asks the same question and answering yes again doesn't get me anywhere. - i just get the same error again.

Any ideas? - I have already attempted to do this on a different computer so i know my system isn't the problem.

Thanks for your help.

Hi clever people!

I have an unwanted addition in my Hotmail address book that I can't delete.

I have never knowingly given out my email addy, but did receive a few dodgy emails a while back, after a friend of a friend of a friends 'puter was hacked, and a ton of spam was sent bouncing around all their contacts.

Other than closing the account, (I'd rather not as it's my name) any ideas for a fix please?

Many thanks as always.

i had a virus last week, which someone on mse kindly fixed (didnt know about here then, so apologies!). i ran scans etc and my laptop was cleaned.

yesterday, i got up to find that i had undelivered mail and out of office replies for emails which i hadnt sent. it was a "shopping" one which was obviously a spam one - it had been sent to everyone in my address book - the top part of the email detailed everyone's details.

after taking advice on mse yesterday, i changed my password on another computer, then ran malware bytes which said my laptop had no nasties on it.

ive tried to send hotmail today, but my contact list has disappeared. Are the 2 events related? is there anything i can do to get the list back?

i run on firefox, have free avg, windows firewall. malaware, superantispy and spybot are all clean. as you have probably guess, i'm not that technically minded. I am unable to post a malaware log, as it won't let me get into it.

thanks for your help.

My daughter wants to change her hotmail account to a yahoo email account. Is there a way she can transport her hotmail "contacts" into her yahoo email address book?

A:transport hotmail contacts to yahoo address book?

I don't know of an easier way, someone else might.

Start a new message, click the To: button.
Add all the Contacts to the To: window.
Select all the Contacts in the To: window and Cut them, Paste the Contacts in the body of the message.

The Contacts would then appear as:
[email protected],[email protected],[email protected] etc.

The Contacts can then be edited to appear on their own line by clicking Enter at each comma and removing the comma before sending the message so they look like this:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
Send the message to the new Yahoo account.

She might be able to use Quickbuilder for the Yahoo Address Book to add the addresses.
It did not work all that well for me.

I have looked it over several ways, and there just does not seem to be an easy way to share the Hotmail Contacts with another messaging program.
Hopefully, as I said earlier, someone else has a better way.

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

As the title says, my Hotmail account is spamming those in my address book with a particular email. I am also receiving daily dozens of failed deliveries to other unknown addresses. My anitvirus software is Symantec and is up to date.

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

A:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Is your trash folder overfull?

Has anyone got any idea if hotmail accounts r deleted. About 12-14 months ago i suddenly couldent sign into my msn account. The password wasnt accepted and my secret question appeared to have changed. I opened another account but im now wondering if somehow I could manage to get the account i couldent sign into working again even though I havent signed into it for ages.
The reason I want back into the account is that it had an account number for a program I bought. Now i need the program again, and I dont wanna buy it again if i can somehow manage to sign into this account again.

Follow these steps to close your account: 1. Visit http://mail.live.com/mail/CloseAccountConfirmation.aspx 2. Sign in using your Windows Live Hotmail account and password. 3. Click "Close account" button. This will only close the e-mail service, the Windows Live ID that is associated with your account will remain active and will be deleted after 365 days of inactivity. If you would like to access any of our Windows Live ID services, please use a different account. From Account Closure - Hotmail AccountAfter closing the account, you can create another hotmail account HERE. Scroll down the page. On the right hand-side, look for Hotmail. You will be able to sign up for a new account. Now that I've gone through all that, are you using Windows Live Mail client or are you checking mail on the web? If you use WLM, someone may be able to help you resolve the isssue if you post details about it.

I hope somebody can help me. I'm not sure where to turn. I had a hotmail account with all my contacts. This Saturday one of my horses is running in the Kentucky Derby and I had a picture of the horse I sent out in a mass mailing to all my contacts.

Hotmail closed my account and will not let me back into it. It is now my understanding that you can't send such mailings or they will stop the service for you.

Is there any way I can appeal to them to get at least my contacts? I don't know who to write or contact to request this. I would certainly hope that someone has had this problem and can tell me how I can at least get my contacts.

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi all

Has anybody else been locked out of their Hotmail account lately?

I have been locked out since Friday May 17th.

At first I could not get Hotmail to recognise even my account name. When it finally did, it would not accept my secret answer and redirected me to msn support.

msn support now tll me there is no such account, even though there is still a secret question logged against it and email sent to it dos not return undelivered.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I foresee a huge security blunder on the horizon. Possible scenarios include a distributed denial of service or mass email virus dissemination through 'disappeared' Hotmail accounts.

I'd appreciate knowing if mine is trhe only one.

Hi !! Hermes ....I can only say that as happened to someone who's account had not been used within a mth....then again you are usually warned before hand. You haven't exceeded your email storage space??

Occasionally lately I have had a problem with my account accepting my password even though correct.

Have you done a virus scan lately ??

Sorry I can't be of much help !!

Good Luck

I had an @hotmail.co.uk email address.

I created a new @outlook.com as I had too much spam.

I can't log back into the @hotmail.co.uk email addresss as I wanted to close it and I've tried the forgot password method but still had no success.

My question is what happens if I leave the email address for example not attempt to login to the account for a long period of time, will it automatically be deleted?

A:Hotmail.co.uk account?

The account should get canceled after 270 days of inactivity.

The Microsoft branded services require that you sign into your Microsoft account periodically, at a minimum every 270 days, to keep the Microsoft branded services portion of the services active, unless provided otherwise in an offer for a paid portion of the services. If you fail to sign in during this period, we may cancel your access to the Microsoft branded services. If the Microsoft branded services are canceled due to your failure to sign in, your data may be permanently deleted from our servers.
