I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

Thanks

Living in France you cannot avoid a French keyboard, they're everywhere. So I learned using the azerty, but stuck to English.

This is of course beyond the people designing Windows.

So how can I have Windows 8 speaking English, but using French options for the rest (?, keyboard, date format, metric)?

And of course, ALSO WITH METRO please. It seems independent of the "real" OS.

Thanks in advance

A:French Keyboard, , metric and date with English speak W8

A lot of these changes can be made through the Control Panel > Clock, Language and Region
If it affects Metro, I do not know.

Im setting up a computer for a family that is Russian and English speaking.

I have installed the Russian keyboard under region and language settings. I can set either to default.

The problem is, when I do shift+alt to switch to Russian, it always changes back to English when clicking on a new window. I assume that is by design as English is default.

What I want is NO default. If someone switches it to Russian I want it to STAY in russian no matter what window they are in, and vise versa for English.

Can this be done?

Thanks.

A:Switching Keyboard settings (russian and english) do not stay

I've noticed this problem in windows 7 my self,
One work around this is to click with mouse into notepad (or browser's address bar for example or any other writable field) and then switch to another keyboard language by using your mouse cursor and language bar located bottom-right on task bar, after that type something on your keyboard to make this language permanent until next change.
if doesn't work try to repeat this process few times, the point is to type something wright after keyboard language is switched.

Good luck.

A friend of mine who spends 8mths a year in france and 4 months in portugal, has just purchased a ACER laptop with XP and all sorts of bundled software in France at a great price, however, he cant seem to change the language option to english, someone else out there who recommended the Shop and Deal has just told him that microsoft have hard coded XP to only work in French on these machines.

Is that true, is there a way around this problem - he is learning french slowly while out there, but would find it more natural in English.

go into the control panel and click on regional and language settings. on the first page you have standards and formats, click customize and pick what you want, then click advanced and make that the same as you picked in the first window. That should do it. If not let us know and we can try something else.

hi to all, once again I am in need of help. I've just bought a pc from a french bankrupt auction its a Dell dimension dim2400. My problem is that the OS is in french and as my french isgood but not that good, I want to change it to english. So I have been on line at ebay and got myself windows xp in English, but what I want to know is - do I have to format drive c to reinstall the new version? And if I do do I need to make a reboot disk?.And lastly if the answer is yes to the last two questions how do I do it??!!

Thanks.

A:installing english xp on a french xp pc

Hi soapy

You will need to reformat unless there is a large enough unpartitioned space on HD and you want to keep the french version. Since the default on install is the whole drive, I doubt this would be the case. A clean install is the best option and is not very difficult. Remember that doing this will wipe the HD clean so if there is anything important on the drive you will need to save it, and make sure it would work with english version. Just follow the steps Here under Perform a clean install of Windows XP.

Hi,

We are having a strange intermittent problem here. We have XP Pro, and Office 2003, with templates created for our people to use with Word. These are basic templates for faxing, letters, etc. but with our very plain text logo on them. Everyone uses them, but for a couple of them, their spell-checker comes up in French. This only happens on the company templates and not to everyone. I've checked all the language settings and made sure they were set to English, but it still happens. I open the same template on my computer and all is fine. So it seems to be machine specific problem. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Thank-you, I've learned a lot from reading here. It's a fabulous resource!!!

A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

Hey,

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

I have a 4mb file with multiple headings, multiple topics, Thousands of hyperlinks.

I type status and info into each "topic" section, cut and paste from other files, and emails.

Hyperlind to file names.

I think it is related to a hyperlinked document name that starts with h3nnnn_-_all.pdf.

But, it will be checking spelling, and all of a sudden it will want to change normal english words to their French equivalent.

It complains there are too many spelling errors for it to check. I then created "my own library" to put all the technical terms in to reduce the number of errors. I put most of the english word errors that it wanted to convert to French into it, and that reduced the number of complaints, but it is amusing / annoying.

I cannot figure out how to find where the dictionary change is invoked within my file. Any ideas?

This might be related to my problem with the "too many edits problem" if that one is a heap problem. Don't know how to change the heap size of word 2000.

Hi Redsox2004,

Word documents, and different parts of a document, may be set in a different language (Tools / Set Language) than your default .

If you have copied from other documents then the copied text may be in another language.

You can set the text to not check spelling if it is causing you a problem, e.g. if you do not have the dictionary loaded for the language required. (same Tools / Set Language option).

You can see the language any text has been set in by looking in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

So I was using Windows 8 on my Samsung laptop, but a little while ago I decided to switch it to windows 7 home premium 64 bit since I didn't really like 8.. since then a lot of the build in keyboard functions have stopped working (understandably). Most of the F1-12 keys would control things like volume, screen brightness, wifi connection etc. I can live without using most of them since they are able to be changed elsewhere, but the one thing I can't figure out how to use is the keyboards backlight. it worked when the computer was running windows 8, so obviously it HAS the hardware, but I don't know if windows 7 recognizes that it's there. Go to the american support forum:

Hi colzie

Rather than going straight to the keyboard applet in Control Panel, try just the "Regional and Language Options" applet:

Start/Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/Languages tab/Details/Settings ... "Add" -- and choose the French options you prefer for "Input Language" (there are six different French versions to choose from), and choose French also for your "Keyboard layout/IME".

See if that does it

So I purchased a Lenovo X1 Yoga in Japan and I absolutely hate Japanese keyboard layouts (anyone that has used one after using a US keyboard knows what I mean - a space bar that is smaller than the enter key, poor placement of certain keys, specifically ", ', and @. There is just no logic behind any of it and honestly, there is no need. One can easily type in Japanese, just fine, with a standard US English layout keyboard. Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state that, but perhaps it will help with SEO to ensure someone finds this page when searching for those keywords.  Anyway, I finally found the information I needed to swap this keyboard out (and throw it in the trash), even though Lenovo support in Japan basically told me it's not possible. It does seem like a huge undertaking though (as you basically have to dismantle the entire laptop to get the keyboard out). But it does seem as though the English keyboards are compatible with all X1 Yoga laptops (even my Japanese X1 Yoga). The Lenovo customer service staff told me to get FRU PN: 00JT864 (00JT864 N KBD,US,LB,screw,CHY,Backlit), which is the US English replacement keyboard. It's also specified on the PDF document  on this page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/PD103738 ) for the 20FR and 20FQ. Scroll half way down and you will see it.  However, I am having trouble finding the keyboard from a seller in Asia, with the same FRU #. When searching for 00JT864, the only source I can... Is there an easy way for me to type in French, including accents on a USA keyboard, other than memorizing the alt codes?

A:Type French easily on USA keyboard?

You could make yourself a character store (e.g. on a notepad) from the character map that you find in All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access. Then you copy the characters from there and paste it into the text. That is not very convenient either, but gets the job done for the occasional email or so. The notpad shortcut you can pin to the taskbar for easy access.

But if you need it frequently, I would get a French keyboard and make the appropriate settings (which you can easily switch back and forth). E.g. I am right now typing from a German keyboard - in Florida.
