Windows 8.1 IE11, browser starts with proxy server enabled

Q: Windows 8.1 IE11, browser starts with proxy server enabled

Good morning,

After noticing that random websites were failing to load consistently, I looked through my IE11 settings and saw that the option to use a proxy server was checked. If I uncheck the proxy server option:
The proxy server option sometimes will be enabled again when restarting IE11
New tabs I open during the same session of IE11 will again have that Proxy Server option enabled
Occasionally, the same tab will revert back to having the Proxy Server option enabled
The proxy server address field remains blank through all of this (there was a value in there some time ago, but clearing it out once eliminated that issue. I have tried the following in addition to manually clearing the proxy server check box and address field:
Malwarebytes
CCleaner
Adware Cleaner
Significant malware and adware was cleaned up by these programs. With regard to this issue, the only improvement was that sometimes (but not always) the first tab only has the proxy server box unchecked when opening my IE11.

I am using this computer at home. I have never knowingly used a proxy server.

Please help. Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 8.1 IE11, browser starts with proxy server enabled

I cannot run DDS on my PC. I can download it, but running it gives an error that DDS will not run in Compatibility mode.

Not sure if this blocking of DDS is part of my issue.

Please advise.

I've quite a few with same problem. IE 11 in Windows 7 got hit by malware. I believe I cleaned out the malware using tactics of other postings here. I ran the FRST tool and produced no fixlist.txt.

Check your proxy settings 127.0.0.1:50293.
Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If you are on a LAN, click “LAN settings”.
Make sure your firewall settings aren’t blocking your web access.
Ask your system administrator for help

I'm unable to manually fix this. I've also tried command line
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ipv4 reset

Is it possible to make a tutorial on this?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

I'd be really grateful for some help.

I have so many problems with IE11 and a horrible feeling the cause(s) may have been on my laptop for up to a year.

1. HitmanPro has identified a proxy server is used to connect me to the internet, when using IE11.  No matter how many times I 'repair' the error, it returns.  Is there something in the Restore Points?  I've only recently discovered HitmanPro.

2. Webpages containing video cause IE to crash, no matter what the site.  After re-opening the tab 3 or 4 times, the site crashes the browser or vice versa.  This is the error when I visit Youtube:

res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#youtube.com,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CieuGZ7TthE

3. I get these types of errors, when I visit some sites.  If they don't immediately appear on the homepages, they appear when I click a link.  The links don't open, no matter what option I choose.

These are from news.sky.com and I have about a dozen more, if they might reveal something:

5. I can't login to my Outlook account, though it is fine in Chrome.

I'm constantly told to enter the password.

I can't log-in to quite a few sites in IE; sites I used to regularly access with IE.  Could this be a separate problem, owing to the sites having been added to some sort of HOSTS file, if IE has such a thing?

Hi,

I'm currently stuck with a strange problem occurring only with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

We use a Bluecoat Proxy appliance but it may be the same with other proxies using web filtering.
Actually, on a Windows 7 with IE11 installed, when a user browse an Internet page trying to open a denied website in an iframe, we receive the custom websense page hosted on our Intranet telling that this is not allowed without problem.
When testing the same site with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, Internet Explorer is asking the user's credentials to display the custom page in the iframe. When clicking on Cancel, I have a 401 error in the iframe, when entering the credentials, I receive the
custom page.
The Windows 7, WIndows 8.1 and Windows 10 are using the same GPO.
Any idea ?

So I have a client who just got 10 new windows 10 machines and added them to the windows 2008R2 domain. By default, Edge is the set browser and I know I can manually go into the profile and set the preferred browser but the problem is multiple users connect to each machine (this is in a DR office) the nurses move around and log into their profiles on each machine. So they would have to do this on each machine for each user which they don't want to do.

Is there a way to enforce the browser for all windows 10 machines via GPA to use IE11 that comes with windows 10?

My idea was to either domain wide on windows 10 machines use IE11 or if not possible created a GPA based on OS and set the default browser.

Or worst case figures out a way to remove Edge from the machines.

Does anyone happen to know a way or ran into this issue previously?

A:Any way to force IE11 as default browser via domain GP? Server 2008

Check with Microsoft before attempting to remove Edge, you might end up with in-valid/un-authentic Windows. If memory serves me, I think the IT people had to develop a PUSH technology, a forced net-station download and a forced Top/Down maintenance, in order to enforce certain defaults.

Secondly, I have this problem on my computer where I am able to connect to the internet, but not able to use my browser. I know this because I'm able to use Skype, but not Chrome. When I open my browser and try to type in a URL, it pops up with a "proxy server unavailable" or something of the sort. Keeping that in mind, it will probably take me a while to transfer logs and files since I can't access the internet from said computer and have to transfer stuff back and forth.

How do I fix my problem?

Do all of your browsers exhibit the same problem? Or can you uninstall/delete the offending browser and reinstall it? What's your security program and have you run any scans?

Hello,
I opened my mozilla and chrome browser today and it said Unable to connect to  the proxy server.
So in chrome I went into Settings - Show Advanced Settings - Change proxy settings - It opened
the internet properties window and I went to Connections - LAN settings and I deselected
Use a proxy server for your LAN (which was selected before). I had never faced this problem
earlier. Even in firefox its saying the proxy server is refusing connections.
After I changed the settings I could connect to the internet. I believe that deselecting that
option makes browsing insecure, is this correct? Please help me with this. Please give me the
ideal settings for the chrome and firefox browser.

Thanks

A:Browser - Proxy Server issues

Which proxy server were you using? Selecting the option alone won't really do anything -- you have to point the browser to a specific proxy server.

Regular browsing and proxy browsing are only as dangerous as the web sites you visit. If you don't visit any questionable sites, and clear your cache from time to time, you don't have much to worry about regardless of whether you use a proxy server or not. Proxies really only serve to allow you to browse anonymously, as well as cache pages you visit regularly so they will load faster the next time.

If you have privacy concerns, try using the private browsing option:

I've eliminated my browser's cache (tools > safety > delete browsing history > check everything > click Delete). I've also verified that my browser isn't using a LAN proxy server (tools > internet options > connections > LAN settings > "use a proxy server for your LAN" is unchecked). I'm not sure if there is a WAN proxy settings.

I'm building a .NET web app and when I'm navigating through my app and hit the back button, it sometimes loads a very old page that I got rid of. How's it doing this if I've cleared the browser's cache and the LAN proxy's cache. The entire application is running on my local machine so I don't know how it would get old pages from a WAN proxy.

Is there any other cache source it might be using? How would I set my application/browser to not use it?

Okay so I got a random BSOD one time, I can't remember which one it was to post the details because I've had so many of them whilst running Driver Verifier lol. Basically when I start Driver Verifier and my PC restarts - as soon as it gets to the desktop it BSOD's. The only way I can stop it is by going into safe mode and disabling Driver Verifier. Can provide anymore info if needed.

Included report.

Thanks :x.

A:BSOD every time windows starts with Driver Verifier enabled.

Thread title: BSOD every time windows starts with Driver Verifier enabled.

Well, that is what is to happen. Is there any specific reason that you enabled Driver Verifier? Let us know. Driver Verifier is a very sophisticated tool designed for troubleshooting only. Driver Verifier is not a tool to mess with or to experiment with unnecessarily or to play with. Disable it. Run the computer normally.

If your computer BSODs with Driver Verifier not enabled, let us know; troubleshooting will be needed in that case.

I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=127.0.0.1:8080;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.

I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1

I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/

Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.

The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

Hi, I am working on an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop, running Vista home premium. I am network connected but all of the browsers, Chrome and IE, are searching for a proxy server resulting in no internet. When I try to uncheck the proxy server box in both of the browser settings it is grayed out. I have run regedit and proxy enable is set to 0, can not find a group Policy edit function, have run spyware removal, and rootkit removal, tried sys restore point but it will not complete operation. This machine is about to drive me crazy, any ideas? Thanks, LM

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1803), IE only opens a blank page. Only Intranet site working. And after, no more favorite are displayed in the Favorites menu. I have to close IE.
If I disable "Protected mode", all working great.
I read on a post that under the version 1803 the problem is solved, but that seems not to be the case
My favorites are on a network drive. I have a GPO, Favorites redirected with an UNC share.
It works fine in IE11 on Windows 7 though using the same configuration (redirected Favorites + Protected Mode).

I miss something somewhere that this was fixed? Can anyone confirm?

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1607), IE only opens a blank page.

We could narrow that problem down - it apparently only occurs if Favorites are redirected to a file share and Enhanced Protected Mode ist enabled.

It works fine in IE11 on Windows 7 though using the same configuration (redirected Favorites + Enhanced Protected Mode).

Hi,

I have a problem with a Java enabled website not “loading”. Here are the details.
I am using WIN7 Pro, IE11. I have both Java 32 bit and 64 bit, version 45 installed. The Java “test your installation” verifies the install is good, and there are no other Java versions installed.
I type the website URL and click enter.  The opening screen of the website briefly flashes and then I am redirected to the Oracle page:  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index.html.
There are no “error” messages displayed or other hints as to why the website does not load. I cannot find any “help” information on the Oracle page.  I have enabled the IE tools setting to allow Java, but without any error message I am at a loss on where to look.
Any suggestion on why IE refuses to load the website and how to fix?

Additional information.  I also have Firefox installed and the website will load in Firefox ( after changing several settings) after “accepting” Java might harm my computer. So I know the website is capable of opening and the Java install is OK (at least for Firefox).

Thanks

Hi,
I'm having an issue customizing the Start Page registry key in Windows Server 2019 (this method works fine in 2016) I would load C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT and add \Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Start Page REG_SZ "Company specific URL"
and when a new user logs in they'd get the "Company specific URL" but with Windows Server 2019 this isn't working.
I have also tried adding "First Home Page" and "Default_Page_URL" and it doesn't make a difference, it seems some sort of mini setup is configuring the registry keys and ignoring or overwriting what I entered into NTUSER.DAT from the
Default user profile.
I've also got IE Enhanced Security Configuration disabled for Admins and Users along with the following other registry keys set that all are working fine.
[HKEY_USERS\DefaultUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Friendly http errors"="no"

[HKEY_USERS\DefaultUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"AutoDetect"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_USERS\DefaultUser\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"DisableFirstRunCustomize"=dword:00000001

Wondering if anyone has found a workaround or missing key that also needs to be set, thanks.

I have an application running .NET Framework 4.7.2 which we have recently started migrating onto Windows Server 2019 servers. We have started receiving reports of issues in Internet Explorer 11 having issues with controls (which we can replicate). Some of
the errors we see in the console include.

'WebForm_FireDefaultButton' is undefined
'WebForm_SaveScrollPositionSubmit' is undefined
'WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions' is undefined

When an app pool recycle is performed on the application, the issue seems to go away for a period of time, but does return.

I recently came across the following article in which the symptoms appear to be very similar, but for a previous version of Windows Server.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2600088/a-hotfix-is-available-for-the-asp-net-browser-definition-files-in-the?WT.mc_id=-blog-scottha#

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with software running on Windows Server 2019 accessed with IE11?

All my effort to specify a proxy for my internet connection failed.
When I open the relvant window here what I see:
Pre configured proxy specification
I add the relevant in format (Which I changed for security reasons)
Update configuration
I close configuration windows and try connect to relevant sites/ All connections fails.
Rhen I reopen the configuration windows and see the following
Proxy configuration rechecked
which is identical to the preconfigured/
I tried updating my configuration in Safe Mode' and it DID work, but after reboot' the new configuration disappeared.
I scanned my system with various applications (Malware Bytes, SuperAntiSpyware, etc/).
I turned off AVG protection, but to no avail.
What else can I do?

HI. This is my first time posting to this site but let me start by saying you are working with a beginner. Step by step please. Lol

Anyways I am trying and have been trying for four days straight to download the games Sims 4. My first problem and may be my only problem but my problem is that I am connected or so it says to a hughes net modem through a linksys expander. My computer says I'm connected but I'm not. I have no problem getting online on my android or ipad but not on the computer. (Windows xp 2002). I hooked it directly to the modem and still it says no local connection. I know it's just a setting I need to change but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I did an ip config/all and noticed that under the ip routing enabled was marked no and the wins proxy enabled also was no. I fiddled through and finally have the ip routing setting to say yes ( not sure if it's right but it says yes. Lol) please tell me how to get the wins proxy setting to yes and finally download this stupid Sims 4 game. I've been trying since November.

Thanks in advance,
Lori

Hi -

I have browser problems after a windows update came along on 19 November. It turned out to be an IE11 upgrade to IE10. If it wasn't marked as a critical update I would not have bothered

Prior to the update all was well. Post update the IE11 has trouble connecting to some sites: eg Latest news, world news, sport and comment from the Guardian | theguardian.com | The Guardian and Free website | Free blog | Create a free website | Weebly fails to load and Home | Mail Online works fine.

The browser just reports that it is 'waiting for response from website'

So, I tried rolling back the machine to the restore point prior to the update. Now back to IE10, BUT the same problem persists.

Next, I unrestored the unrestore and reverted to IE11. I then tried uninstalling the update. Back to IE10 and same problem.

I tried turning off the windows firewall and disabling the virus scanner. Same problem. I checked the latest version of Flash is installed.

So, I downloaded and installed Chrome. Chrome has the same problem, except that if you stop the page loading it will render the page as far as it has got. Successive reloads and stop loading clicks will get most of the page.

Chrome is now my default browser. Funnily enough, Chrome seems to be getting better at getting web pages as it is used more. Seven forums has only just become usable!

Is there a fix for this ? Machine is w7 Pro SP1.

Simon

Such as with malware bytes or avast?

Hi,
I'll make this as brief as possible:
Installed IE11 on Windows 7 and Proxy PAC file does not work, however Google Chrome, which gets its proxy settings from IE, is using the PAC file just fine. My PC was able to use the PAC file on IE8 and IE10. The 'Use Automatic Configuration Script'
option is ticket and the PAC file path entered in this format:
File://C:/Windows/pacfilename.pac
Any ideas?
Thanks.

A:Proxy PAC file not working on IE11

This is known to be an issue, and is intended (it is by design, i.e. it is deliberate) by MS.
The "local" PAC file (i.e. where you use a "file://....." URI/URL, is not supported and has been deprecated.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/archive/2013/10/11/web-proxy-configuration-and-ie11-changes.aspx
We use http://wpad/wpad.dat and it's fine. Also fine, is
http://wpad.contoso.local/proxy.pac .Don

www.surveymonkey.com
we found out that IE behaves differently or rather unexpectedly when behind a proxy server.
without a proxy, IE would display the site's eye candy and all fine. once i place IE behind a proxy, the site looks horrible.
tested on other browsers like Chrome and Firefox, even behind a proxy this browsers display the site exactly the same when viewed without a proxy.
so it's not the proxy's problem then.
why is IE doing that (even after resetting IE) and how to fix this?

We have an issues with Proxy detection for our machines.
All our servers have manually assigned IP -- No DHCP
No machine is able to resolved wpad.domain.com  using DNS (Possibly earlier there was such entry -- which is removed now)
All machines have IE11 and  automatically detect settings enabled
Somehow machines still are able to get proxy details even though no WPAD is downloaded using DNS/DHCP
Possibly cache but we deleted all files from IE download folder (even though no WPAD.dat existed there)
We rebooted machines
We created the registry to disable autocaching
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/271361

Somehow Server 2012 R2 machines still keep getting proxy and able to connect to Internet.
Any advice how i can stop / block / clean proxy
