Q: Security Cert window keeps popping up. Hijackthis log included

Hi,

Ran a full scan on my comp and it says it detected 5 dangerous events. The option to disinfect was grayed out (I use Kapersky Lab) - I only have quarantine as an option and when I picked that, it asked me to choose what file to open. Eh? Does the fact that my antivirus already detected the events mean it's been handled or I need to do something? Because earlier a security certificate window kept popping up, asking me if I want to install it. I didn't, of course, and worked up the courage to delete all the files the antivirus detected as threats.

....That may have been a stupid move, y/y? The window is still popping up but not as frequently. Is it even a related problem?

I am IT-blind *whimper* My Hijack log below. Thank you!

Preferred Solution: Security Cert window keeps popping up. Hijackthis log included

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

I think my laptop is infected by adware/malware. Everytime when I turn on my laptop, IE will keep popping out non-stop for more than 30+ windows. There is nothing I can do to stop it. Seems like the system is trying to connect itself to certain website.

Now I have no internet access and certain programs in the system. Non of the programs under All Program list are workable when I clicking on it.

I have run the HJT and here is the log, hope someone can help me with this. Many thanks.

I've tried everything I can think of to get this (*$)^@)(#^#) window from coming up. Anytime you try to go to a website, you get an error message saying "Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack" and then try to direct you to download a very expensive "anti-virus" program. I used Hijack this to create a log because I'm just not sure where to clean it out of. Can someone please look at this file and see if any of these are the problem? Thanks so much!!!!

Also - this is on my mother's computer who has no clue about how to work any of this stuff....LOL I'm the resident computer fixer when she screws stuff up.

Thanks - DeLaina

Hi alan8376
Is this problem associated with your outgoing mail too?
Try turning off your AVG email scanner & see if that makes a difference.

Hello, please help me I don't know how to get rid of this message and I'm not sure if I have malware on my computer.

There is a red sheild with a cross in it in the system tray and a message keeps popping up saying:

Security System has detected spyware infection!
Spyware may compromise your privacy or damage your computer.
It is recommended to install antispyware tools now to prevent data loss and exposure of private details.

Internet explorer keeps opening by itself and going to a website asking me to download antispyware software, or takes me to a website asking me to perform a scan, both websites ask me to download a program so I have been using windows task manager to exit the programs.

Earlier when I did this a message popped up saying tmpd.exe is not responding before the website closed.

I have ran a full scan using MacAfee and nothing was detected, however MacAfee has blocked 3 attempts to download a trojan from the websites I have been sent to.

Here is my Hijackthis log:

Hi, so i have 2 fake alert pop ups that are very persistent. One says i have the worm.win32.netsky virus, and the other says windows has detected an internet attack attempt... blah blah blah. I also did have the red wallpaper with the just creepy looking message your security is in danger(yeah, i really wanna click that...), but have gotten rid of it for the time being, sure it will come back if i reboot. I searched the forums a bit and found a few people with the same exact problem. They were all given different directions though. If I'm correct to assume, I can't just follow one of their help directions because every case is a little bit different, right? If not, could you please just direct me to a thread that I can follow. If so, i went ahead and did a hijackthis scan. Thank You in advance for your help.

I keep getting a Windows Security Center-Alert pop-up about every 5 min. When I try and close this pop-up I get redirected to an Antispywarenetwork page(www.antispynet.com). I've tried to get rid of it a few times but it keeps coming back. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Please help! For the past few months our computer has been constantly popping up virus messages. Every few seconds we get a Windows antivirus message that says windows has detected spyware... As soon as I close this box it reappears. Every 2-3 minutes we get a Windows Security Alert stating Warning! Potential Spyware Operation! And sporatically we get a Trojan Found message from McAfee VirusScan although I can not delete the infected file.

I looked through some websites and messages on this board looking for help. I downloaded Super Antispyware Free Edition and ran that program. It deleted 450+ items but the computer is running no better and the messages are popping up just as often.

Moreover, I can not access my control panel through the start menu and can not add or remove programs.

I have seen some people post similar problems and they are told to run a Hijack report so I did that. The log is below. Now I don't know what to do next.

Can someone please advise? Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!

A:Security Toolbar 7.1 and Virus Ranger issue Hijackthis log included

Seeing as how my earlier post was logged 4 days ago and there have been no responses I became impatient as my repair was somewhat time sensitive. I was checking some of the other posts and noticed a website icon/advertisement in the right hand margin that purported to fix Security Toolbar 7.1 so, figuring if it was on this website it couldn't be too dangerous, I clicked on it, paid 30 bucks, downloaded it, and ran it. Also, their tech support was awsome --live chat with tech opened upon click of a button and immediate response--no waiting on hold on a phone line or waiting for an email. The program knocked the Security Toolbar 7.1 and Virus Ranger in the head and cleaned up over 8900 infected files. If anyone else reads this and doesn't mind putting out a few dollars, it might be worth your while if you feel like you can't wait for any longer for a reply to your post here. Thanks, Tech Support Guy" for including the link. It was well worth the money and my computer is no longer hijacked with all the fake antispyware ads popping up. Absolutely no disrespect is intended in this post but, as wonderful as the website for "Tech Support Guy" is, it seems to be getting too well known and too busy for every post to be answered in a timely fashion. I appreciate the link to an alternative that worked for me.

Hi,

If I click on "GMail" from google.com, it claims bad security certificate through "a248.e.akamai.net"...happens usually but not every time.

Also had similar problems with yahoo mail (doubleclick) and bank website (also doubleclick) in the past.

Computer is suddenly sluggish and freezing, requiring hard reboot approximately 3x per week (which is very unusual for my computer).

Could not finish GMER scan thrice due to a "report to windows" error during scan (sorry, I copied error info....but then brilliantly copied Over it before pasting) but it seems to have fully run the fourth time.

Please advise, DDS follows.

Thanks!

I recently bought a new computer. HP Pavillion, AMD 64 Live!, with Windows Vista on it.

I am still trying to get used to it, but I do like it (esp. since my other computers are so darn slow now).

Well, for the last few days, it started acting up. It has these windows pop up...not matter where I go, or what I do...to a point that they even block me from accessing stuff.

It's just the simple window (sorry, not sure if it has a name) with like View, Sort by, Refresh, etc...on it, depending where I am at. I mean, I can turn the computer on and the window pops up. I get rid of it, it comes back over and over....

Does anyone else have this problem or know what this could be, please? Thanks.

Hi colesmum

I'm new to vista also. I found that vista is just a whole lot more secure (sometimes too secure) so it always asks if the actions that are occurring have been authorized by you the user. Also you may find many programs wont work unless you run them as the administrator. Hope this helps.

Quite a while back, I tried installing a printer, and something went wrong; I don't exactly remember the details, but here's the result:

Everytime I startup Windows, the window pops up declaring Windows has found new hardware ("Printer") and then attempts to help me out with the 'wizard'. I don't even have anything hooked up to the computer, yet it still claims it has found new hardware.

Does anyone know what I can do to convince my computer that I am not trying to install new hardware? I've even tried to indulge my computer in its attempts to search for the driver, and at the end of the process, when it says it cannot find the driver (and you can choose to NOT prompt again for this hardware), it still pops up after every startup (I don't even have DeepFreeze or anything else like that).

Any ideas?

Hey all - I'm having a problem on this old work computer: Windows Installer is constantly popping up and disappearing! At times it's every 3-4 seconds and stealing the focus, and the popups almost immediately disappear. It seems to mostly pop up during work from within Microsoft Office and less so during work in Google Chrome but I'm not positive about that.

The popups previously attempted to install Roxio Media Manager. They would pop up randomly and try to install for 10 seconds or so then freeze, and cancelling the installation took another 2-3 minutes. However, I've since tried a registry clean using iolo's suite of tools (no noticeable improvements) and I've tried removing all of Roxio's installation packages using the Windows Installer Repair Utility - which brings me to where I am now. It would be great if someone could help!

I think it may have something to do with adware, i keep removing 16 items with super anti spyware and all will be ok for a while then the same 16 come back and the problems start again i don't think anyone has been on suspicious sites, it sometimes comes back when i haqve only been on well known legit sites without clicking on any adverts, here is the list from anti spyware

I use a dial up connection and in the past as I was waiting for pages to load up I would go to one that had completely loaded and begin to read and use it without any interruption. Suddenly I find that IE automatically shifts to the partially loaded page rather than staying on the one I am using. How do I turn this feature off, so that I can stay on the window I am using until I so choose to go to another window by selecting it myself in the bar at the bottom. Hello,

I've been having this problem for the past 2 months; my Firefox, chrome, and internet explorer windows keep popping up. It started with Firefox because I mostly use this browser on my computer. Every time I try to write something, new windows pop up and the page redirects to the homepage. It got so bad I deleted Firefox and started using chrome but the same thing starts happening but this time internet explorer windows keep popping up out of no where as well. I thought my computer was affected so I ran multiple scans from different spywares and things calmed down a bit for a few days. When it started happening again; I restored my computer and then downloaded Firefox again and I thought it was all fine. My computer was clean. But just a few days ago, it all starts happening again; the page I'm working on keeps getting redirected to the homepage, and new windows keep popping up. I searched the internet and I found a forum posted here and the person had similar problems, he was told to download a spyware and see what he had been infected with and it was a Trojan. I downloaded the same spyware and scanned but there was no Trojan just a few tracking cookies so I removed them. There was also something about replacing the "Hosts" files on the computer in the forum, I did that and it was good for 1-2 days but it starts happening again and it's really frustrating. Could you guys please help me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

Using WinXp SP3,

The problem is that after few minutes of logging in, multiple default browser windows open up for no reason. The windows open up in specific time intervals and also on certain events(mouse clicks & explorer.exe). ------ When i surf the internet the browser redirects to the homepage at regular intervals and its intensity increases with time almost to the extent of redirecting every half a second. ------ The fun does not end here if i try another browser it results in the same. These windows keep opening up till the extent of clogging the memory and freezing/crashing my box.

I formatted C drive only and installed WinXP SP3 again but got infected soon after. Installed QuickHeal Internet security(Licenced) and ran a scan and found nothing. The problem has sobered some bit but is still cropping up.

I tried checking it my self and found that the process responsible for calling the default browser window is Explorer.exe. I have no idea how it got infected and am unable to trace the source.

I can format my entire pc but i really want to find the source. PLEASE HELP !!

Have attached the DDS and GMER logs.

Thanks !!

Hi,

Recently my Windows has been going nuts and occasionally popping up tons of blank search windows in which if I close them, they repop over and over again, it's driving me nuts. As this is going on, I can't tab to other applications, and I can't type - my keyboard is completely messed up and every time I try typing, it highlights the character and erases it as soon as I type the next character. Not really sure what to do but bang my head on the keyboard.

A:Desktop Window keeps popping up. please help

Hello Dave -
Please download the tools to Desktop and Copy and Paste any logs.

First - This is a "basic clean-up" and we will go further depending on your answers.

Please download and run RKill by Grinler.
A black DOS box will appear for a short time and then disappear.
This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
At most the tool will usually run for about 2 minutes
Please Copy / Paste the small log back here.

Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step.

* NOW :
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
 * Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
 * Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
 * Click on the Scan button (only once)
 * AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
 * After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
* Check the removals and see if you are OK with the list.
* Now
 * Click on the Clean button (only once)
 * Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
 * Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
 * After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
 * Copy and Paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
* A copy of all logfile... Read more

I think I have spyware on my pc. 'new.snappyads.biz' keeps popping up every time I load up internet. I close it, and it re-appears a few minutes later. Also, my computer keeps making clicking noises.

I have scanned with 'PC tools' and 'Spybot S&D' and it gets rid of some but this one keeps coming back. It is driving me insane. Does anyone know how to get rid of this problem? Was going to use that highjack programme mentioned in a few posts.

ps - I also cant access 'mozilla firefox'. I have installed it but when I click on it, nothing happens. All this has only happened in the last week.

FYI, I have done a disc cleanup and defrag.

Any help, much appreciated.
Thanks

Worth A Look. Why are you mentioning "infection" in your post? What makes you say that? Do you have any evidence of such occurring?IMO, your browser is probably damaged and the simple way to resolve that would be to uninstall/reinstall it...repair it...or reset it to default settings. If your system IS infected, none of the above matters and I need to move your topic to a malware forum...so please answer the questions I asked.Louis
