Q: Windows Resource Protection found some corrupted files

Hi there everyone. I just created this account to see if you guys could help. I ran the command sfc / scannow and after it was finished I got the error, "Windows Resource Protection found some corrupted files but was unable to fix some of them" Anyways, I uploaded the log from the scan in a zip file. Maybe someone can help me understand what's wrong. Thank you

Preferred Solution: Windows Resource Protection found some corrupted files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello guys.

Recently I performed a sfc/scannow on Command Prompt. It said it found some corrupted files but was unable to fix them. May I know if anyone of you knows how to read the log that it generates so that you can let me know what and how to fix those corrupted files?

Thank you for your help!

A:sfc/scannow - Windows Resource Protection unable to fix corrupted files

Click or tap on Search, then type cmd in the Search box.

cmd will appear under Apps, right click on it and in the options at the bottom of the page choose Run as administrator.  This will open the Elevated Command Prompt.

In the Elevated Command Prompt type in the following command followed by pressing the Enter key for each command.

Hello,

I have tried to run sfc/ scannow and it gives me the notification that: WIndows resource protection has found some corrupt files but is unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log.

Is it ok to post the log here so someone can have a look at it?

Thank you!

A:WIndows resource protection has found some corrupt files... No Fix

Hi, can you look thru it and check this..
If the only failure report is about opencl.dll, this is about your Nvidia driver and can be ignored.

However I believe that discrepancy was resolved after an update a little while back.

See post #2 here
sfc /scannow failed to repair certain files - Windows 10 Forums

and #3 following.

If that fails, then you can do an in-place upgrade repair install.
An In-place upgrade repair install will fix many things, but not those where the settings are not changed by the procedure.

For this you need an installation medium with the same base build as you have installed.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

This will refresh Windows, after the manner of a Windows installation.
- all/most associations will be unchanged
- all your programs will be left installed
- you will lose any custom fonts
- you will lose any customised system icons
- you may need to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection
- you will need to redo Windows updates subsequent to the build you have used for the repair install
- Windows.old will be created
- system restore will be turned off- you should turn it on again and I recommend you manually schedule a daily restore point.
- you will need to redo any language downloads including the display language if you changed that)

This is one of the better features of Win10: as each major build comes out, that's your updated reference build, and as updates are mostly cumulative, there will be few to ... Read more

Re-run sfc /scanow an additional 3 times, one immediately after the other. Sometimes multiple runs of sfc /scannow are able to fix previously unfixable corruptions.

Hi michellewjy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Please see the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228 to create an sfcdetails.txt file. Try to attach the report (you may need to copy it to your desktop before it will permit you to attach it) here so we can see what they are and if they can be repaired with good copies from programs located elsewhere on your system (depending on what they are and how many there are).

There are quite a few other things we can try, but let's start with what you've already done and where we know there is some type of problem and then go from there.

Thanks and good luck!

As instructed in this forum, I even ran SFC /SCANNOW more than three times. Attached is my sfcdetails.txt. What files are possibly corrupted?

By the way, when running sfc /scannow, does it change back to defaults the custom registry settings I modified for my SSD like disable prefetch and superfetch?

It seems that explorer.exe is the unrepairable file, but why?

A:Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable

SFC won't change back the registry settings for your SSD.

It does appear that explorer.exe is the only corrupt file it's finding, but you're saying each time you run SFC it comes up with this error even though it says it's been repaired?

Hello!

Last month something happenned to my pc that i'm not really sure about what happenned. My pc was fine one day, i went to sleep, and the next day it wouldn't boot. In the "Starting Windows" it gave me a quick BSOD and my pc would restart. But eventually after searching the web i found a solution, a guy told me to go to the BIOS and change the disk mode from IDE to AHCI, and that worked! But then, i ran the "sfc /scannow" just to make sure that everything was ok, and gave me the message "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". Later on, i found another forum, where a guy would analyze my CBS.log that the "sfc /scannow" would make after analising my computer, and he would give a script to correct the errors every time i ran the "sfc /scannow". We were working this out at a good pace, but then he said he had an assignment to make and it's been a month since the last time we spoke. I wouldn't mind waiting because my computer was working fine. But a few days ago my computer started "misbehaving" again. Now, everytime i boot up my computer starts analising my disk (i think) through CHKDSK. This happens everytime! The CHKDSK says i have some bad files and such, but it doesn't do anything to them, it's like it removes the same files in every analysis. I have to skip the CHKDSK to get to Windows, and if i didn't do that, i would be stuck in a loop between CHKDSK and restar... Read more

Guys,

I have been having a lot of TDR errors (STOP 0x116 error)

I run sfc and it finds corrupt files but cannot fix them.

They seem to be nvidia driver files but if someone could check for me it would be great

excerpt from the zip file attached:

Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"nvd3dum.dll" of nv_lh.inf

Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"nvlddmkm.sys" of nv_lh.inf

Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"nvd3dumx.dll" of nv_lh.inf

Cannot repair member file [l:26{13}]"nvwgf2umx.dll" of nv_lh.inf

etc....
So i have ran driver sweeper and installed the driver in safe mode and still the SFC errors.

You guys think it could be the reason for the TDR issue and is the solution to do a repair install?

It could be the issue. I would do the repair install and see if the problem persists.

A:Help!Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix

Because sfc wasn't able to repair the damaged files, you will need to repair your installation of Windows 7. You'll need the installation disk to do this -- if you don't have one, you'll have to get it from the computer manufacturer.
Place the disk in the CD tray and restart the computer, then click the "Repair" option.

Good day!

A problem occurred with my HP notebook. I was watching a movie clip in a site when my laptop suddenly froze. I pressed the power button to turn it off. After few minutes, I turned it on and was able to use it again. But after a while, the display turned all blue and it said that I should call the Hard Disk/Drive Support because of Hard Disk/Drive malfunction. I turned it off again. As soon as I got to use it, I contacted HP and talked to one of their online technicians. He asked me to have my laptop undergo the Hard Disk Self Test and to contact them again to report the result of the test. The result was the Hard Disk/Drive passed. I talked to them again. Since the laptop passed, the technician just asked me to have it undergo SFC scan. Then the chat session ended.

It was my first encounter with SFC scan, so, I didn't really have an idea about it. Then it said, "Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them, etc." It said something about CBS.logs, which I did not understand. I just followed it in Local Disk C, but was unable to open it because it said that access is denied. It then prompted me to research about the sfc scan and its details. All my searches led me here.

I was able to know how to get the details of the sfc scan, through the help of this site. But, my problem now is, I do not know how to solve the issue stated by the sfc scan details. This is what the latest detail says:

A:Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forms!

Well done on getting this far! You have proven skill beyond anything we normally see! Right!

You may have noticed that the corruption lies at settings.ini. This file is located at C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\settings.ini

This is an issue we see a lot, and is not really an issue at all. If you change a Windows Sidebar setting, if you install an app, if you disable the Windows Sidebar, if the factory installs an app, then settings.ini is changed to accommodate these settings, to save them. This settings.ini file is now different from the default settings.ini. Any file that is different, is classified as a corruption by SFC. So, what I am saying is that this is the most common "corruption" and is the only one that does not matter.

I wish Microsoft had white-listed this file. I do not see any purpose in reporting a "corruption" that appears if you change settings, and use your PC as you should.

So, this is not a problem. Just ignore this. This is the only corruption found, and so there is no problem. If you do have any other problems, or any other questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Richard

Try running SFC several times. It cannot fix all at once.
If it cannot be repaired and the corruption is substantial, try a repair install.

Hi, everyone:

Windows 8
Toshiba L855 Laptop
I attempted to create a manual System Restore point. I received the following error: Restore Point failed. "Writer experienced a transient error." I'm sorry I missed the error code. I did a search but I wasn't sure if it was the same number. I restarted and tried it again. It worked fine the next two times.

So, I ran sfc /scannow and received the message in the attached picture: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

I did a system restore to last week and ran sfc again. I received the same message. Other than this, I have not noticed any errors. I've run Windows Defender.

Any information about this and what to look for in the noted log file would be helpful.

Thank you.

standard procedure for sfc/scans are to run 3 scans, reboot after each one, the theory is that each scan may fix something needed to fix for the next scan and so on.

I ran a CHKDSK (but fell asleep before it finished LOL), but I was able to take a picture of this: Im hoping there is a log of the results on my drive (but where or how to locate it?!?!)

Then I did a sfc /scannow and got this:

I tried running in safe mode and doing this but i get the same error.

Hi there, First time here. I have a lenovo z575 and am running win7 pro. Everything seems to run fine and computer has bitdefender, zemana, malwarebytes running usually with no issues except that occasionally the computer will freeze for 1-2 minutes a few times a day. Recently I discovered that updates were not happening. Last update for win7 seems to be last July. I clicked on check for updates and then the message checking for updates appears and lasts over 1-3 hours. Once there was a message with code that update could not happen and code 8024a006. Well when researching that code I came across suggestions to run checkdisk/r which was fine and also to run sfc/scannow. sfc/scannow yields the message about corrupt files unable to fix. Doing research on this came across suggestions in cmd mode to use : dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.I have tried this and error message 87 pops up saying that the command is not recognized. When I replace restorehealth with scanhealth the command works. My brother suggested I run hijack this which I have attached. thanks

Hey everyone,

I have been experiencing a slow laptop recently. My laptop would freeze and then crash and sometimes I received the BSOD.

I ran tests to see for viruses and none were located. I also ran a CHKDSK and there was many files that were replaced.

But upon running a SFC /SCANNOW, the Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them.

From reading various threads on this, I used tom982's advice and have attached the error log in a zip file.

Can anyone offer any assistance? After running the CHKDSK, my laptop has been running fine and I have not encountered any lags or my laptop freezing up again. Appreciate it!

Hey guys,
I have been having stability issues with my win 7 machine, and I would like to know what to do to fix them. I ran SFC/ SCANNOW 3X, and each time the following message came up:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I attempted to look at the log file, but my access was denied. When I right-clicked on the filename, there was no option to open it as an Administrator.

I would like to know what steps I should take now.

After looking around on this site, it seems like my best option now would be to do a repair install of windows 7. I looked through Brink's tutorial on how to do a repair install, and everything makes sense to me. The only question I have right now has to do with making sure I don't mess something up with my drivers. Is there a way to copy all my current drivers to prevent any sort of trouble after the repair install?

Thanks again for your help.

Ok, I have a machine that was hit by a root kit, that's all removed now, but it will not boot...gets a 0000007B BSD error so I start in repair mode which creates an X: ram disk to operate from. When I get to a command propmt and run the SFC with OFFLINE options I get the above message which tells me to look in the Windows/LOGS/CBS/CBS.log file. The one on the C: was HUGE so I renamed it and ran SFC again. Hmmm no CBS.log was created this time either. I check the value of %windir% and it pointed to X:/Windows nope no CBS.log there either. Set the %windir varible to c:\windows and ran SFC AGAIN and guess what.... nothing.

WTH is going on here? If I knew what files were corrupted I could replace them manually but by not having a verbose mode in SFC I am lost.

HELLPPPPPP!

One thread I found says the cbs.log file is hidden so you need to remove the hidden attribute before you can see it.

cd \windows\logs
attrib -h cbs.log
notepad cbs.log
Another way is to redirect the log to a different location:

set WINDOWS_TRACING_LOGFILE=C:\TEMP\CBS.log
run sfc
Log will be in C:\TEMP\CBS.log

It seems my windows ran into a problem. I am using Sony VAIO with OS windows 8, ram 8 GB with Nvidia gt780m graphic card 1 GB. It all started when i restored my pc (without recovery disks) as i was getting some problem in installation of Game (assassin Creed 4) and after restoration it worked fine and well. Then after a week or so my windows crashed and I rushed to service centre as I was not having my recovery disks to restore it. back I got my windows again and so I tried to install the same game but it was not installing showing error (screenshot is attached). I looked to other software like NFS MW 2 again I had same problem. To ensure that installation files were not corrupt i copied the same files on my friends PC and installed it and it worked well and fine on it. Then I got to know it has something to do with my windows system file so I Google it and found the solution to run SFC/scannow command I did the same and there it was the corrupted files of windows(SFC details are attached). Then again i spend my Saturday night and found one particular solution (though it didn't work) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command and tried to repair those files but it alwayz get stuck. I Really need help to get on to this issue cuz neither it's allowing me to play games nor letting me run a application properly it alwayz interrupt the application and say that certain .exe need to be closed. if any one have solution then plz help ..

A:Windows resource found corrupt files but was unable to fix

The disc is probably slightly defective and your friend's drive probably has better error correction abilities. For example, it could be optimized to read through dust or minute scratches better.

I am sure you would not get the error with a pressed disc in new condition.

See about malware with Malwarebytes. There could be an entirely separate issue about that.
