I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

G'day peeps and creeps, i have the pavilion dv6 with 1 terabyte hd and bluray disc player, a few months ago i foolishly upgraded from windows 7 to windows crap so a week ago i reinstalled to windows 7 and that went well, except i was having really bad heating issues so i took it apart and cleanded the fan and reapplied new thermal paste and that went well except for one thing, i now get an error message about an unknown usb device so i went into the device system list and sure enough it says usb unkown device, so i tried all the usb port and they worked fine and the usb content came up and i could access and add or delete at will in all 4 of them so i checked the drivers for them and they are up to date aswell so i am at a loss right now about that but i just now discvered a new problem, my disc drive wont acknowlege blurays, i watched a bluray the other day and that was fine then last night i watched a standard dvd and that was fine but when i got home this afternoon i went to watch a bluray and all it did was make a bunch of noise and wouldnt do jack so i took it out and tried again, same thing so i put in a dvd and that worked perfectly like normal so i took that out and tried the bluray disc again and just more noise and nothing else, i really like this puter so i am hoping that its not stuffed too bad but i am at a loss about these two issues, especially the bluray one so any help would be greatly appreciated and sorely needed.please help.

I want to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC, with a hybrid ssd/hddis my notebook compatible for this, i tried to find my product name but it only says:HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC.I hope this information is enough, but if needed i could send my serialnumber and productnumber. hope to hear from you guys soon, best regards, Thomas

A:HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC

product number would be a good thing to send, but not the serial number.  All dv6s use a 2.5 inch wide 7 or 9.5 mm thick drive. So a current model hybrid sshd 2.5 inches wide will be a plug in replacement for the current hard drive.  https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Firecuda-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST1000LX015/dp/B01LWRTRZU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UT... If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?... Read more

So, after a successfull installation of win10 in my HP Pavilion dv6-7024tx, I ran windows updates to make sure it gets all driver for its hardware automatically, it did though and was absoultely fine expect one audio problem relating to micro (not working), I couldn't notice that time. I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A:HP Pavilion notebook

wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.

(You may delete the post, if it is not relevent here) I could not find my question answered anywhere and I could not find any place where i can contact (except email) for the three issues I have started seeing on my HP Pavilion G6. 1- When machine is started (while BIOS checks and when Windows' logo is spinning) screen started to display a line with random colors. Seems like pixels are broken/dead. It becomes fine when desktop is loaded. 2- Battery does not hold charge for more than 25 minutes and it has started to go down faster now.3- Power connector on laptop seems to be lose, i have to push it in to get the charging going.  If you can forward me to the right place where to contact HP, it will be appreciated.

A:HP Pavilion g6-1b67ca Notebook PC

You are out of warranty now so this is where HP will send you. We are volunteer fellow end users just trying to help but with no access to the HP warranty system.  1.  If the screen is OK once Windows boots I would not worry about it.  2. The battery is what, now 4 or 5 years old? It has seen its better days and needs replacement. Let us know where you live (country) and we can point you to a place to buy one.  3. This one is potentially a bigger problem. However, as long as the charger runs the laptop OK with no battery installed you are likely OK. They do tend to loosen up with age. If the charger will not actually power the notebook, then it is a problem with the charger port module which is not too expensive to replace, or the motherboard, which is.  For out of warranty repairs in the U.S. and Canada HP is not a viable option. Their charges are very high as they need to be since HP is not really in the business of repairing out of warranty computers. You are better off with a local repair shop or if you are willing to try, even self-help. That is where this Forum is at its best, when we can help end users with out of warranty but still useable products fix them and keep using them for a reasonable investment.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

2 suggestions: 1. Get a good headset with microphone. The microphone built into the chassis of the laptop is not ideal. For example, Skype discourages trying to use it for video calling.  2. You do not have recovery disks but you can make a system backup that could be used to put your exact software setup, apps, documents, etc. back on the machine in the event of a hard drive failure. You can never rely on any hard drive as the sole copy of any information that is important to you.  Please provide the model number so we can be more detailed in giving advice about your hardware.

A:HP Pavilion Notebook Not Booting

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.

Hello.I am a student going into my first year at University. I have had my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC for two years and slowly it has started falling apart. I take pride in looking after my things [phones, ipods e.c.t], but this laptop has seriously upset me, I used to have a laptop before this and it lasted for over 6 years. The corners on the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC started to come undone and I used some tape to ease the weight when closing the lid but suddenly the two clips holding each joint came out and refuse to go back in and one of the hinges came out completely causing the laptop to be tilted and unable to close. I am extremely upset that this laptop is this fragile, I did some research and noticed that I'm not the only one with this issue and its seems to be common. I have seriously cannot afford to purchase a new laptop as I need to buy lots of books for University and also need a laptop to study.

Can you log in if you start up in safe mode? (Press F8 on Windows boot-up, and choose Safe Mode).
Did you do something specific recently, like install something or change system settings?

I just purchased this notebook earlier this year and I'm disappointed to say that it is already no longer holding a charge unless connected to a power source. The charging icon also continues to stay in the same spot even after hours of charging. I'm not sure if a new battery would resolve this or not. Let me know what you think the best solution is! Thanks!! Katie

Hello, I seem to be having quite the issue with this laptop (apparently many others have this issue as well), I'm trying to get it working for a friend. name:  HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PCnumber:  QA668UA#ABAOS:  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1 First thing I noticed was that there were zero Windows Updates installed and zero Restore points created. Nothing needed to be backed up file-wise, went to install Windows 10 and realized that it isn't free anymore, so scratch that idea. No audio has been able to play through the speakers through Windows. (though when I launched the HP BIOS Hardware Diagnostic Tool, I was able to hardware test the speakers, and they played audio, passed multiple tests) I've troubleshot every possibility I could think of that could cause something like this. Installed new audio drivers update (restarted, no sound). Installed some Windows Updates. No sound. Installed chipset utility, MEI driver, graphics driver, and display audio drivers. Restarted, no sound still. Installed HP BIOS updates, and HP BIOS EUFI updates, restarted, still no sound. Installed 230 more Windows Updates. No sound. Rolled back audio drivers, restarted, no sound. Installed older recommended audio drivers, restarted, no audio still... Installed HP Hardware Diagnostic Tool (was able to get audio to play through speakers during a hardware test in BIOS). --------------------- That lead me t... I was wondering if Transcend TS256GSSD370S and Samsung Evo 850 is compatible with my laptop. Also how to enable AHCI mode? I don't see any such option in BIOS.Thank you.

HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab019axSerious issues with battery life since July/August last year (prior to warranty expiration)I have performed HP?s own battery check and it recommends a replacement (42) on 18 month young laptop!!!The screen goes fuzzy, black and freezes after last remote sessionI have had 4 or 5 remote sessions with no improvementLast 2 of those have been in the past 2 weeks after which screen went all fuzzy with blue lines. I had to force reboot  and since then the screen freezes and/or flickers black. Laptop is completely unstable now.I had around 5 hours on battery life and from one day to the next, this changed to about 1½ hoursIn the 18 months I?ve had the laptop I?ve run down the battery frequentlyBattery keeps loosing life even plugged in, currently showing ?65% available plugged in not charging? from its usual 91%HP test says REPLACE battery

A:Pavilion Notebook Battery

Replace the Battery is the only resolution. Take the laptop to the nearest service center.

Hi: If you live in Europe, see if you can order a set of recovery disks from HP's e-Partner at the link below. Select the country you live in at the top right side of the page, and enter the product number of your PC in the applicable box. B3K97EA https://www.best2serve.com/page/rcd_search You can also try contacting HP for the country you live in at the link below to see if they still sell them directly. http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html

Hi, I have recently reïnstalled Windows10 on my notebook, but (almost) every time I turn it off (or to sleep mode or hibernate mode) the fan and power light stay on. The only way to properly shut the machine down is by pressing the power button for a few seconds. I wonder if this is something in the OS or the BIOS settings, and if it is because of the BIOS settings, is updating the BIOS really the only way to fix this? Thanks in advance, Emma

A:HP Pavilion 13-b020nd Notebook PC

HI. Please see that the bios has the default values of the bios:1. F 10 at system startup2. Go to the boot menu ... F9 to restore the default settings3 Save and Exit. Or do this if the above does not solve it: Control Panel > Device Manager > scroll down to System Devices > scroll down to and right click Intel(R) Management Engine Interface > Properties > click tab Power Management > you should see an option that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Make sure this option is NOT checked and if it is, un-check it and click OK.And while your at it try and update the drivers for Intel(R) Management Engine Interface, Go to:Control Panel > Device Manager > scroll down to System Devices > scroll down to and rightclick Intel(R) Management Engine Interface > Update driver software > Search Automatically for updated driver software.  Driver for Intel's Management Engine Interface (MEI)http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72314.exe Regards.
