Q: P51 Audio Missing after Fall Creator Debacle

Greetings all, My System:Date: 2017-09-30ThinkPad P51 Signature EditionModel: 20HH-CTO1WWBIOS N1UET43W 1.17I7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHzRAM: 16GB512GB SSDVideo: nVidiaPro M1200M 4GBWindows 10 Pro, 64-BitCurrently 1703: Build 15063.877 Windows 10 Pro Fall Creators Feature Update is very problematic for me: causes MSOffice 365 to crash (Microsoft Word has stopped working A problem caused the programs . . . ), makes the system lag, fans blow continuously, apps and icons missing in Start, all the stuff people are reporting on. A real pain. I?ve had to roll back twice from previous attempts at this update. However *somehow* MS Update sneaked it onto my system again and yesterday I experienced the same problems. But, I couldn?t roll it back, that option was gone. I moved my data off, and replace the current system with a cloned drive of this system I had from last November. Worked out well, moved the data back over, etc. Also found a handy utility to hide the Fall Creator update in Windows Update and also FCUpdate 365 days. I am now stable again on v1703 Build 15063.877. I can now do MS Updates without fear of the Fall Creator update occurring. However . . . my audio is not working! Here?s What I?ve Done: I right mouse click on the ?red Xed? speaker icon and ?No audio devices are installed?Device Manager shows Sound, video and game Controller | Realtek High Definition Audio with the ?Little yellow triangle and !?Device Manager shows the High Definition Audio Controller with the ?Little yellow triangle and !"Downloaded the driver package ?n1ua109w.exe? from Lenovo and installed.Performed Update Driver on Realtek High Definition Audio? No loveDisable and Enable Realtek High Definition Audio? No loveDid the same for the High Definition Audio Controller? No loveDeleted the device and rebooted (also did a shutdown and restart) the system did not find the hardware, so could not install updated drivers!Scan for hardware changes In Device Manager did not find the hardware! In Device Manager went to: Action | Add Legacy Hardware and scroll down etc. until the Realtek device was located. Windows installs. Good. Reboot. Realtek High Definition Audio now shows again in Device Manager, but still shows the ?Yellow Triangle?.I?ve tried deleting the Realtek folders, rebooting, reinstalling, etc. nothing. What can I do next!? I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Well I figured that the "Activation errors" issue would crop up when a new update like this come out - my guess that many people would be doing the upgrade at once.

Tried to upgrade from Windows Update as well as using the Media Creator Tool by downloading from the Microsoft website, neither of them works. In the end, I got an error code "0xC1900101 - 0x20017", and a message "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation." I have every driver and OS software updated to-date. I do have Ubuntu installed as a dual-boot OS and Macrium Reflect configured as a recovery software from the boot, which might have caused the problem. I encountered this issue a while ago with the Spring Creator Update (see here), and I fixed it by deleting the Ubuntu booting partition, which I definitely want to avoid! I searched on Google, similar issued happened for HP laptops and was related to the BIOS driver. Does anyone know if this issue is related to the Thinkpad BIOS setting or something we have to wait for Lenovo to fix? Any solution to this issue? Thanks.

I was previously running the Window 10 spring creator's update without issue on my Yoga 910. However, after the fall creator's update (1709) the fan is VERY loud when plugged into AC power. When running on battery, it's whisper quiet. All BIOS/Software/drivers are up to date, and I've rebooted numerous times. Power mode slider is set to either all the way to the left (power saver) or one notch to the right. At times with the high fan usage, the system seems bogged down and very slow to respond to keystrokes. Task manager doesn't reveal anything super obvious using high CPU time.

I have recently been pushed the Windows 10 Fall Creator Edition (Build 1709) and after installation I cannot get any HDMI output (connected to an Acer S240HL screen) - I see an "input not suppoorted" message on the Acer monitor. If I roll back to a pre-1709 build the display works.
I have the Intel HD 620 Video driver installed, although I also rolled this back to the current version on the Dell site (Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver_1H6KX_WIN_21.20.16.4627_A04.exe) before a second attempt at a reinstallation of Fall Creator.
Has anyone seen anything similar, or a workaround?

Hi Voljka,For company or production environment, Windows Insider Preview / Release Preview builds is not recommended, as the drivers may not be ready for all types of hardware.  I would suggest you revert back to Windows 10 RS3 (15063), and wait until it is ready and show up in the Windows Update.

Hi! I have problems getting a MIDI keyboard to record into
either of the two programmes,Cakewalk Audio Pro 9 or Music Creator, I have programmes and User guides for both of these. This problem has been with me for at least a couple of weeks, and whilst both programmes have appeared to install successfully, and in fact do record via the mouse, they will NOT record via MIDI, I have tried with two separate MIDI keyboards,
have checked leads MIDI IN to MIDI OUT and vica versa, I have an adaptor from joystick port which gives me the MIDI IN & OUT
facility, all leads & connections checked & double checked. the only other real possibility for my trouble may be that in the installation instructions it directs "choose options MIDI devices", (this is a box which has two halves, the left half is for MIDI inputs, whilst the right half is for MIDI outputs) it says, Quote"look at the left window, notice it shows devices on MIDI inputs; make sure that all devices in this window are highlighted, click on it once to select it for MIDI input" Unquote. The problem is, that there are NO devices displayed in this box, which means that none can be highlighted, and therefore No MIDI input can be activated, How can I solve this problem? Thanks Dave.E. Hi my dell OptiPlex 3020MT updated automatically to Fall creators update yesterday everything is working fine expect for the soundcard. It sounds tiny and flat. I downloaded and tried to install official Windows 10 audio driver from dell support but it can't be installed as it is not compatible with latest windows 10 build. I have to rely on windows update and Maxx Volume Pro is not working with driver provided via windows update. MaxxVolume, MaxxLeveler and MaxxBass sounds flat when I try to adjust it manually. All drop down options is empty.. no preset equalizer is available in drop down menu and user defined equalizer does not make any audible sound difference when I try to manually sets it. Also under speaker setup; Speaker size (Small, Medium, Large) does not make any audible sound difference.. it just sounds tiny and flat.
Kindly provide a work around for this issue. At least a compatible audio driver for fall creators update.

I am the original owner of a n7160m Media Center pc (circa 2001) which needs to be restored from the factory partition on the hard-drive.  Unfortunately, after a recent Windows update, the hard-drive (original) failed and the C-drive partition became currupted.  I am unable to find the original Recovery DVDs I created.  I cannot run the HP CD Recovery CD-DVD Creator software because it is on the corrupted partition.  I don't think it would work anyway since I already made discs previously.  The original Recovery partition still exists.  I was hoping there was another way to recover the factory state or recreate the Recovery discs.  Is the Recovery software available somewhere? This has been my child's pc for several years and I'm trying to get it back in operation. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

A:Missing HP CD Recovery CD-DVD Creator software

Once the recovery disks were created you cannot create them again. Have you done a hard disk diagnostic?  If it is OK you may try doing a recovery from the recovery partition providing it is not corrupted. To do a software recovery from the hard drive, turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. If your computer originally came with Windows XP or earlier, press F10 to enter recovery instead of F11. If you need recovery disks and If you live in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and see if you can still get a set of recovery disks. For the worldwide site go here if outside USA/Canadahttp://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html I checked a couple of places other than HP and did not find them so try HP as noted above.

When you said you reinstalled them did you delete them in device manager and reboot? If that doesnít work you could try deleting them and shutting down the computer. Physically disconnect the drives and boot. Shut down, reconnect them and boot. That has always worked for me when removing them and rebooting didnít work.

Hello all,

I decided to reinstall XP from scratch. Big problem. I deleted all my partitions and reformatted the full drive in NTFS, walked through all the XP install options, etc. Now when it boots into Windows I see the spash screen but then the monitor fills with gibberish. I can see glimpses of the XP welcome screen but no more than that.

1> This happens in Safe Mode also. Bummer.
2> I reset the BIOS and also pulled the battery.
3> I tried cleaning the CD and have tried reinstalling 4 times.
4> I have a Radeon 9800 graphics card. My motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics so I have no option to bypass my card. Obviously the Radeon drivers aren't installed yet but it should work in Safe Mode, shouldn't it?
5> I yanked my sound card also. No effect.

I can get to Safe Mode/Command prompt, but that's it. Does anyone have any ideas? If it is my graphics card all I can think to do is find another cheapie card somewhere and try that.

Coming from XP, I was under the understanding that the more memory your system had the faster it would run until someone showed me the light and told me that XP was only capable of working well with 2GB of Ram... 3GB if you know what you're doing and could tweak something.

Later I learn that Vista needed 4GB to run and since I now have 4GB's and it feels like Vista is very stable and perhpas slightly faster than my XP, I think that people were correct.

Being said that, I have heard people getting into having 8GB's or even more and since DDR2 memory is at its lowest I was thinking on jumping on that band wagon but then, it hit me... what if Vista is only capable of using 4GB and the rest would just be a waste or even worse, it could very well hinder the OS performance?

What is the scoop? If my motherboard is capable of accepting say 8GB's of Ram, would I be helping my Vista x64 OS by adding 4 more GB's to it or would I just be wasting my money? Also, seeing as to I also dual boot with XP, would my XP OS suffer from that as well?

I know someone will ask if I really need all that Memory and the answer would be, I don't really know, all I know is that I want to game as smooth as possible and if adding more memory will help me do that w/o having to overclock my CPU or GPU... I am all for it, aside from the fact that I also want to know whether Vista is capable of accepting more than 4GB and still use it at its maximum.

A:Vista x64 and RAM debacle...

Hello AstaLaVista.

I 'borrowed' this somewhere ...

The 32-bit editions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise and Ultimate, all support a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. The real variations come when we start looking at the 64-bit versions. On a system running x64 Vista Home Basic, you can add as much as 8 GB of RAM. x64 Vista Home Premium supports as far as 16 GB of RAM.

But it will take no less than 128 GB of RAM in order to satiate x64 Vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate. 128 GB of RAM is the maximum supported physical limit in the case of these three operating systems.

However, with Windows Vista, there is a clear distinction between the maximum supported physical memory and the virtual addresses that the operating system will use. The x86 editions of Vista will not deliver full support for all the RAM installed in the case that this amounts to 4GB. And there are also some limitations involving x64 platforms.

I recently built a computer sans monitor, so I grabbed my grandma's old 17" CRT that's like 6 years old and hooked it up. The computer has a GeForce 4 MX 4000. The CRT ran at 1240x1200 (or something like that) and 60Hz refresh rate.
I just bought a new Samsung LCD monitor and hooked it up. It runs at the same resolution but is set at 72Hz refresh. Whilst playing games and generally messing around on the computer, it is much blurrier than the old CRT. Some of the games are hugely worse with the new monitor. This strikes me as though it shouldn't be so. Does anyone have any ideas? Should I set the new LCD to 60Hz refresh or what?

A:interesting monitor debacle

LCD monitors have one native resolution that looks good. Anything below that will look like crap, always. So if the LCD is built for 1280x1024, then that's the only resolution you should run things at.

The refresh rate shouldn't really matter, but 60 is recommnded for LCDs.

So, my family runs a small business. Currently, all of our computer work is done out of two computers -- my Macbook, and my father's older PC, running Windows XP.

Last night, a few of our guys decided that they needed to use the computer for something and tried to log in through Daddy's account -- and failed, so many times, that the computer has locked the account. Daddy's not the most tech savvy person in the world, so he's pissed and frustrated and it falls on me to fix it. But I have no idea how.

I logged into the Administrator's account, went to the control panel, and couldn't find the appropriate account (let's call it 'Office') at all. It's not listed there. So I went to the Documents & Settings section and the file with the account name is there... But I have no idea how to get it back onto the user control panel, or how to unlock it or reset it so that we can log back in. My stepmother thinks she's a computer genius and is pressuring my father to just wipe the hard-drive clean and start over, but I know there's gotta be a different way that doesn't involve losing all our stuff.

So, I need the account to come off invisible, and I need to unlock it. And I need to figure this out, preferably in the next few hours.

...Anyone, help?

My 14 year old son decided to take over the administrator account for his computer and change the password. Now he can't remember it, and it has been a couple of months, and he still can't even log on.

We have tried rebooting in safe mode, but it continues to ask for the administrator password, which we don't have.

I tried reinstalling Windows, but it still takes me back to the administrator account that was already installed, and to which we have no password.
I've tried tweaking the BIOS -- nothing. I've tried removing the battery on the motherboard...nothing.

I'm not asking for help to crack the password, which I understand is against forum policy. I just want to know how I can get to the C:\ prompt so I can format the hard drive and start over or any tips on reinstalling WINXP64 which might actually help.

Okay, this problem is most perplexing. My father-in-law had laptop who's power system went bad. I pulled the hard drive hooked it up to my desktop, copied all the files off, and then wiped the hard drive. However I was able to repair the laptop so now he's got the external plugged into it copying his files back to the laptop. Now he's getting "file name too long" errors. He said even some files he's being forced to rename one character long. I can understand files can only be X amount of characters long, but why is it saying some have to be smaller and some larger? Both HD's are running NTFS, and most puzzleing, if I copied the files from the laptop HD to the external HD, why can I not copy them back to the laptop HD without getting the file name too long errors? Is there any way to remedy this? Or at the very least is there a way to automate the process, i.e. select all the files that are too long and rename them something shorter? Right now he's going through hundreds of files and renaming them one by one. I have to say I've never run into this issue and I don't understand it, any help would be great. Oh and for trouble shooting info all the systems involved were using Win7.

A:HELP: File Name Too Long Debacle

Shorten the path or the names. If the files are being copied to the desktop, for example, then the names become longer by C:\Users\<username>\Desktop + the name of the files and folders.

Can you give an example name and path?

Try copying to a folder in the root of the C: drive.

I am not sure what the problem is exactly. I took out my graphics card (safely and properly) and put it another computer (Computer B) with the same And was seeing if computer B can handle more RAM, once I did that Computer B's fan was running like crazy but nothing came up on the screen. I then moved the graphics card back to the original computer (computer A). Now computer A does not have anything coming up on screen as well. I might get Windows repairing but that it's not loading or anything. Not sure how much I messed up

I have been learning all I can about tweaking BIOS settings (overclocking, etc.) only to find out that Compaq allows verrrry limited access to the BIOs. I am trying to tweak two different machines both Compaq and both AMD, a K6-2 and an Athlon. Any suggestions on how to get into some action here, people?

NOTE!: By installing a different BIOS than the one which came with the board, you might end up with a dead mobo, in which case you'll have to call up Compaq and buy a new one (or find one somewhere else)... You also void your warranty doing this...

To make a long story short, yesterday my computer got infected with multiple viruses/adwares at the same time. I downloaded the 30 day trial of McAfee Anti Virus and ran it. After running several scans, it keeps coming up with pretty much the same things. The list of infections it says I have are as follows:

Generic Downloader.ad
W32 Generic.m

Aside from having obvious performance issues, I keep getting pop up ads that end in "muon.html" and "neutron.html." I ran HiJackThis and this is what it came up with:
