Preferred Solution: Multiple Issues

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Multiple Issues

Once again, my computer thinks it's been working correctly for too long

Here is the link to my previous thread: [SOLVED] Unknown BSOD from time to time

This time, it basically gives me a BSOD when the processor workload is higher than 20%, something runs out of memory or the computer has been idle for more than 15 mins. (Using YouTube, playing Games etc. etc.) Here are all the error reports:

PC specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 640
Installed Memory RAM: 4.00 GB (I don't know what manufacturer or model)
Motherboard: BIOSTAR GF8200E
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8200
DiskDrive: Hitachi HDS721050CLA362

As before, I have attached the needed files to the post. I was kind of stupid of me to mark the previous thread as [SOLVED] instantly.

A:[SOLVED] BSOD teasing me; Multiple issues and multiple 'corrupted' files.

Have you tested your RAM? You can use memtest 86+ or the ultmate boot cd. Have you tried booting in safe mode and then letting the computer sit for 30 minutes? Does the blue screen happen in safe mode?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I am new to the site and went to hardware to try to fix an issue, Wayne and Frank both were very nice, Wayne recommended that i go to malware virus first, i have three issue i hope to receive some free advice on. the hardware issue was a wireless button not working, i believe the driver is bad, qualcomm atheros 9485 802.11b?g/n. but following directions seemed very difficult, as i am having an issue with redirects, new tabs opening and pop ups, so many in fact i am having trouble following download directions, i believe i have had as many as 6 at once, mostly multiple, but at times only one. When downloading often a new window opens when thing are correct, but not a half dozen and some are clearly not related, but many are close to what i want. i had a malware q pro something, google told me how to remove it, it returned, the conduit, thing has affect me, toolbars are installed with out my ok, so i read carefully when going through the steps. now i do not know what is my problem with all the unwanted pop ups, redirects new tabs new links, my wife works daily on a computer, she is a CAD operator, while out of town she bought me a new laptop just like hers except software. my desktop was down i was trying to re install either vita or windows 7, i had the system disks and a mirror of computer i bought. got to final step and crashes. have any suggestion on the virus issue as this conputer works with an ethernet cable but not wireless, so i... So, I've got two separate, but somewhat related issues. One has been going on for a year and still hasn't been resolved (posted about it before) but I have some updated info, the other one is new.
AsHere I go ....

1. Can't Connect to the Internet
I all of a sudden could not connect to the internet. As my wireless isn't working currently, I used a wired connection. I am using that wired connection right now on my work computer that I am messaging from, so I know it isn't a modem/router issue. I have removed all the anti-spyware that I had and only installed Avast!, I re-installed all the drivers, and I contacted my internet provider. In troubleshooting with the internet provider, we tested the ping for www.google.com, which didn't work, but when we pinged the numerical ip address, it did. The same thing happened when I opened my browser. The representative said that the IP address was not being resolved by the DNS (is that correct)??? Anyways, that's where I am at - how do I resolve it so that the IP address is resolved?

2. First, for some extra background, please see the thread from a year ago that I had posted:
Here's what I posted initially before:
I have a Compaq Presario R3440CA with a Broadcom Wireless card. I used to be able to connect to my wireless just fine. Now when I try to 'Find network connections', the error comes up as follows:

Upon restart the blue screen says wsock32 deleted or changed (can't remember which) and after login to windows IE asks if i want to restore previous session and if yes is clicked it opens some 24-28 windows. I've also got 8 different svchost.exe processes running in task manager which is a new thing. Avast has found and isolated (but not deleted) wsock32.sys & xwr15685.dll in its virus chest.EDIT... Okay, so I've been having some annoying issues on my computer, nothing serious yet but some are concerning. Feel free to ask for more info if needed.

Issue 1: I've had some jerkiness/lag and loading issues for some of the games I play, particularly Blizzard games (all of which should be well within system specs). The prime examples:

--> When I play Overwatch, sometimes character models/audio/sprays/projectiles take FOREVER to load for the first game I play after launching the program. All player models are essentially invisible, including my own (don't see the character's weapon or even HUD), and if I fire my weapon while invisible the map will react (breakable objects break), but all of the effects are invisible (if I fire a rocket, for instance, the rocket and explosion are invisible). I can still see usernames above allied players, but enemies are completely invisible. Models load at different rates (so one hero's model might load after a few seconds while the rest take minutes, for instance), any sprays just appear as the default spray (if they appear at all), and voice lines don't work. This has lasted for an entire round before, and when that happens the "play of the game" clip will often have invisible characters in it, even if they've loaded fully by the end of the round. Additionally, even once most/all assets are loaded, if I die and respawn there is a period (several seconds) where the screen is completely black even though my character is ... Read more

Hey guys,
I've currently got 4 different browsers installed on my computer (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera). I've had different issues with each and every one of them. Right now I'm using Opera and for the most part it's been pretty good. Although lately it's been starting to act up.

I stopped using IE a year ago because it would just shut down on it's own. Chrome would freeze up. Firefox seems to lag sometimes and now Opera is showing signs of lagging. Lately Opera has become particularly bad with Facebook and is slow to load images. I've removed Opera and reinstalled. All of the browsers are up to date. The computer was reformatted a little while back. Everything is up to date. Virus scans show it's clean. I deleted all temporary internet files, cookies, etc etc. My hard drive has lots of free space on it. I know my internet is supposed to be high speed but sometimes I wonder about that. I've had issues with the modem in the past. So maybe that's one possibility?.
My computer is about 4 years old. Acer model AM3970.
Windows 7 64 bit.
CPU - Intel Core i3 processor 2120
RAM - 4GB DDR3 Memory
HDD - 1TB harddrive.

Can you recommend any other browsers that might be better than what I'm using?. Any help would be appreciated.

Our ISP recently updated their hard ware to work with the Sprint network. Note: our ISP is not Sprint, but the local phone company.

Our Hardware:
Internet: DSL 10.0 (highest speed available)
Modem: Comtrend (ISP provides)
Router: Belkin N
Computer: 10 yr old Dell running XP - service pac3 - wired connection
Kindle Fire (first edition, no HD, etc) - wireless connection
Xbox 360 - wireless connection

Xbox - went from constantly bumped from Xbox Live game by losing internet connection to not being able to enter a game at all
Kindle - went from occasional "network error' message during online tasks to having to restart download (multiple times) or refresh page for most any or all online tasks
Computer - have to click refresh to get most any page to load after the home page

What we've tried so far:
I have recently cleared the cache on both the computer and Kindle. XBox's new security measures have been met.

My questions:
Do any or all of these issues seem to be related?
Is there a piece of equipment or something we may be missing to make all of these things work? I am a networking novice.
Who should I call to get these issues corrected, my ISP or a tech service? Note: if I start with the ISP and they do not find an issue I have to pay for the call.

A:Multiple issues over multiple devices

First. You should try to NOT use a wireless connection for any type of gaming: PC, Mac, Console, etc. If you can hard wire the xbox you'll be waaay better off than using wireless.

Now... Yes, the issues could be related - there maybe an issue with the Belkin N router. I'd try to first reset the Belkin router to default settings, check on manufacturer website for instructions how, most routers you can press a "reset" button w/ a paperclip or ball point pen. Reconfigure the Belkin router, recreate the wireless network and see how everything works. If you are still having issues, humor me and connect the Dell directly to the DSL modem, bypassing Belkin router. See if you still have connection issues, if you do then it could be the DSL modem that is the problem and call your ISP to replace. If you don't have same issues then it's most likely an issue with the Belkin router. Replace it. Don't buy the dirt cheapest router at the store, but you most likely don't need the most expensive one either. Find a good middle ground router, ask sales associate to assist you accordingly.

Post back, Hope this helps!!

A:Multiple Browsers with multiple issues

Hi Classic2016, welcome to the Forum.

As you are having issues with all browsers, the logical possibility is your modem or internet speed.

Does your computer perform properly when not using the internet. If so the check in Device Manager for any modem driver issues. If all seems well there then, the modem itself may be the cause.

I am trying to fix some problems on a client's Compaq Presario V6000 running Windows XP Home Edition. I think a full reinstall of the OS may be necessary but am having problems even with that. My preference, of course, is to fix the problems below without having to reinstall the OS. I have pulled off some of the client's data but since I cannot get it to read a blank CD, an external drive or a large 2.0 flash drive I have not been able to back up everything. It will read a 1GB flash drive of an earlier generation. (Of course the client had no backups and had never done a system restore point - see below regarding my clientele.)

The current problems are:
1. Setup from a Windows Home Edition CD cannot see the HD: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer". (I had hoped to set up a partition and reinstall the OS and then bring the user data over to the new install and then nuke the old one. I have done that before on a Dell that got caught in the isass.exe snafu when XP SP2 came out. I had also hoped to run Windows repair from setup to see if that would fix the problems on the current OS install.)
1.5 The Windows XP Home Edition CD is one I have that is a stand alone. It is not an OEM disk. I don't know if that matters. There are no recovery disks for this computer and since it will not see a blank CD in the drive I cannot make one.
2. The computer cannot connect to the Internet (wired or wireless).
3. I can now boo... Read more

I'm not sure if this is all part of the same problem but there are multiple things going on. On my laptop ( its an HP Pavilion DV6, with an intel core i3 CPU @ 2.20ghz, & 64 but operating system ) The only way i can get any sound to play is if I watch videos in my firefox browser. No sound will play when i use Chrome (which I prefer) or Itunes, or windows media player. The problem with watching videos in firefox is that there is about a 20 second delay before the video will play, and an error comes up to stop the plug in or continue. If you close out of that box the video will play but you will get the same delay every time it is paused and started again. Browsing in Chrome and playing videos from that browser there is absolutely no lag, its lightening fast, but you will not get any sound. Other simple programs ( Like solitaire) have the same lag, each card you click takes about 20 seconds for the move to actually take place. I've tried messing with my sound drivers to correct the audio issues but I am not sure if it is an audio issue, a flash player issue, or a combination. Any input?

Recently uninstalled many software programs because laptop hard drive (with Windows XP Home) was too full to run defrag. Installed Ace Utilities to help identify unnecessary files and while doing so, discovered lienvandekelder. Removed and ran McAfee virus scan. (Also used Ace to clean registry.)

Ever since, whenever I open files in software programs, the files are not arranged alphabetically --recently used files are listed last. This occurs in virtually every software program except Office. (Does not occur in Explorer/My computer either.) When opening file, right clicking to arrange files is only a temporary fix as they are not in alphabetical order the next time I go to open files.

Also, in IE 6, visited links are no longer registering as visited.

Tried system restore but these problems didn't self correct so undid restore.
Any idea what these problems could be and how to fix them permanently? Thanks!

Thank you in advance for any help and advise.

I believe that my laptop (running Vista) has been infected by something. The symptoms that I?ve noticed are as follows:

1. the only user account that I can log onto is the admin account. I set up multiple accounts for my family members and each are standard users. Mine is the only admin. Whenever I try to log onto one of their accounts the laptop freezes at a blue screen (not the typical ?blue screen of death? but just a blank screen.
2. IE is extremely slow to load initially. Once my homepage comes up, I can usually browse as normal, but it can take up to 5 minutes to initially come up. I can however use firefox.
3. regardless which search engine that I use, I?ve been redirected to other, usually shopping websites.
4. I can not download and install any Microsoft office updates. All updates fail. I?ve even uninstalled office and reinstalled it but still can?t get the updates
5. I?ve done multiple malware scans. I?ve used programs loaded on my laptop and online scanners. Each claim to find cookies and such but nothing more serious.
6. Another thing is that my dvd?s will not play in media player. Last week the autoplay quit but I was able to play the dvd/cd?s by starting the program manually. Yesterday media player would load, but would not play.
7. On occasions ?avast? resident shield freezes and I can not surf the web. I turn off the resident shield for a minute or so and turn it back on, and this usually ... Read more

Hi, you may remember me from such threads as Nothing on Monitor After Replacing Motherboard.
XPS 8700, Win 8.1
Long story short, Dell told me I needed a new motherboard and it was replaced, although the graphics card seemed to be the issue, and since then that has been replaced with a refurbished one.
There are three issues I have at the moment though that I wasn't experiencing with my other motherboard...
1. When I first try to shut down the computer, it shuts down, then boots up again. When I shut it down again though it does shut down.
2. 2 ram slots closest to the fan aren't working. When I have all 4 ram in, I get the 4 beeps on start up.
3. The graphics card fan revs high, then stops sporadically.

Hi, trying to get sisters lappy back up and running. Had a big "X" in the system tray saying Malicious software detected, actually changed the background pic to this message, etc.

Running Windows XP Pro w/ SP3

Super antispyware - found 200 plus items, let the prog remove and quarantine all
Registry Mechanic - found 1000 plus items, let remove and repair
AVG anti spyware - Program cannot update error: "Update failed, The connection with the update server has failed."

Now, I am not able to get a webpage in either firefox or IE

Discovered ask toolbar installed, I am unable to uninstall, get an error saying:

"Invalid floating point operation" and

"Exception EInvalidOp in module _iu14D2N.tmp at 778500F5. Invalid floating point operation.

Also discovered at this point, (shoulda looked at this first) that no restore points exist and I cannot manually create a restore point.
Error states: "System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, and then run System Restore again."
I have restarted and get the same result. Obviously there is something installed blocking these things: Internet, system restore, and Add/Remove programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Let's start with a SuperAntiSpyware scan in safe mode. Please post the log.Safe mode access: Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Currently attempting to fix my mother-in-law's computer. The computer runs very slowly, all the directories under Program Files are hidden and default to hidden after computer restart. Firefox searches are frequently hijacked, and IE (though never run) pops up with a critical error after the computer has been running for a few minutes. did a fresh install of win xp pro on a new system and there are a few odd things happening that i've never seen before...

no "standy" option when i select Shut Down - only Shut Down and Restart are available, standy is greyed out
monitor does not turn off after 20 minutes as it is set in the power options
unable to setup network
let me explain the network problem. when i go to the Network Connections under Settings, nothing is listed (there is no NIC card listed with a red X showing it is not connected - the screen is blank like it doesn't exist). I select "New Connection Wizard" and tell it I'm connecting to my home network. it then tells me that it cannot complete the wizard until all components are installed properly. if i try to install the components properly by updating the drivers it says it has to connect to the internet in order to do so - but it can't connect because the components are not installed properly!! it's circular...

when i go to the device manager there are a few items that have the yellow question mark, and it is these that i am trying to update (one of them is the NIC card). so, on my way to work this morning it occurred to me that this may be a setting in my BIOS that i have to change...could that be a possibility? what is causing these issues? i've installed windows dozens and dozens of times and never had anything like this happen before...

Third, Spybot isn't picking anything up yet Malwarebytes picked up some 261 PUP.optional.outbrowse and I run both programs everyday. Also, what is Microsoft Security Essentials and is it even needed? Sorry for the un-orginized list of crap but would be tight if someone could help me out.

A:Multiple issues, need some serious help I believe.

Microsoft Security Essentials is just another Antivirus program (do you have one installed?)
You do not list your Operating System or any other details.
Please help us by running these few scans
First -
Download Screen317 Security Check and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Please Copy / Paste the contents of that document back here.
Note:: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.
Next -
Please download MiniToolBox to your desktop to run it.
Checkmark following boxes:
* List content of Hosts
* Flush DNS
* Report IE Proxy Settings
* Reset IE Proxy Settings
* Report FF Proxy Settings
* Reset FF Proxy Settings
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
Click Go and Copy / Paste the result. (result.txt)

Ok start off by saying I'm not great with computers. So hopefully someone can help with these issues.

So I bought a desktop gaming PC on eBay. I've bought a few before. This one I have multiple issues with. So start from the top fml.

So when I got the PC and cleaned it up (outside etc) I got it setup and got it going. Turn it on to find the guy didn't reset erase his account. And that it was windows password protected. Grrrrrr first time this has happened.

So I tried to contact him to no avail for a day. So I just made a windows reboot on a flash. And installed new windows 10. So I actually got on the PC finally. And now here's my current problems.

1. He got back to me finally after I did the work around. So fml because I'm sure everything woulda been fine because he gave me his info (gd my patience) now everything is definitely not fine.

Basically windows just installed new on top of his old profile. So his old profile is there, but I can't access it anymore. So thats a issue as I'd rather just delete what I just did and log on his account and then reset it from there.

Now I'm just using a new windows 10 but still have his 130+ gb of junk on the system. Which I can't delete or access anymore to my knowledge? If I can somehow reverse my impatient "fix" of installing a new windows on top of his that would be ideal. If not I'd like to know how to delete his old junk so I can start over completely with this new ... Read more

I just bought a new HP PC today, and I have a few questions.

1) It was advertised as 300 GB but when I right click the hard drive it says TOTAL CAPACITY: 270 GB. So I got jipped out of 30? Is that normal?

2) I previously had a Dell PC with a Dell monitor, which I am currently using on the HP...but the driver doesn't really seem compatible or something, portions of the screen are kinda fuzzy. Does this mean I need to get a new monitor, or is it just the graphics card? (Which is an ATI Radeon series, and up-to-date.) The monitor was fine on my Dell but it seems like it can't handle the newer driver, even though the monitor itself is really good despite being a few years old (it's flat panel, 21').

3) I had a huge speaker system with a massive subwoofer on my Dell. I realized that in order to use these speakers on the HP I need to install the audio card from the Dell, but when I removed it I couldn't figure out how to connect it to the HP computer. Should I just take it to a PC store and ask them to do this for me, or is there an easier way?

A:Multiple issues with new PC - HELP!

1) This discrepancy is due to a difference between the normal kilo (1000), and the computing kilo (1024). in the old days, drives were measured in the computing kilo, but some manufacturers started using the standard kilo (1000) to make their drives seem larger than the competitors. Here is the rundown:

Windows 98se, IE 5.5sp1. Have searched MS site and tried all thier "fixes" and still nothing. Have tried uninstalling 5.5 and reinstalling but can only attempt to repair when I choose to uninstall (two dlls are "too old", scrrun.dll & urlmon.dll). Have reinstalled hoping to overwrite. Have done sfc to restore the dlls. Have put build 3802 of virtual machine on.

OKAY! Here is the problems. When I attempt to run Windows Update it tells me I'm running an older version of IE 5 and Internet Tools and that I need to update, gives me the link, I download so it can tell me that I am already running a newer version and aborts the install.

When I attempt to login into most sites (I notice CGI is in the address for these sites) I can only get a "PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" message. Refreshing does not help. I do not have PCT or TLS selected in security options.

If I click on anything related to javascript, nothing happens.

Hope this is enough info for ya! LOL!

Appreciate any help you can be.

I have recently come across a few problems that I have yet to figure out how to fix....

1) When a folder is open, I should be able to single click an image icon and see a thumbnail preview of it on the left side....but no longer. Where can I fix this?

2) All the icons in my system tray have completely disappeared, the programs are running properly (except paperport [my scanner software] which is not for some reason), but I can't seem to bring the icons back. And no, they are not hidden.....they just don't load up.

Way to kick off the new year...
Here's a list of my issues: (Comp specs above)

1. Computer freezes: Started happening this morning. Computer froze twice while surfing the web and once while shutting down. When I got back from work, computer loads startup applications much slower. When I load World of Warcraft, the game loads 3x slower than usual and after a few minutes freezes my computer. (Possible correlation?) It froze 3 times on me in game.

As it stands, no BSOD yet. Just locks up and repeats the last second of sound it sent. No overheating either.

2. Hard drive constantly seeking: Even at my desktop from boot, not connected to the internet, my hard drive seems to be in full-seek mode. Task Manager says I'm only at 200MB PF usage.

3. Swap file: I have a feeling this is related to my number 2 problem. I have 4GB or RAM in my machine (2.5GB seen) and today while playing games, Everest tells me I'm using 60% of my physical memory and 60% of my swap file, which is about 1GB. As far as I know, I've never used that much while playing World of Warcraft and considering WoW is the only app I'm running at the time, it seems quite high. Task Manager says WoW's only eating 600MB.
Currently scanning for baddies in Safe Mode. AVG, Spybot, and Malwarebytes. I'll update my devide drivers when the scans finish. As it stands, I'm two tacos short of wiping the whole thing and installing Win7 64-bit, which may not be a bad... Read more

Hi there,

I've been dealing with multiple issues lately, including:

1. A pop-up of "Generic host process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"
2. Google links redirecting to generic search pages and spam pages
3. The display theme automatically switches to Windows Classic, and removes Windows XP from the drop down menu in Display Properties.
4. Pop-up windows in Firefox telling me I've won a $1,000 Walmart gift card
5. The occasional "Security Adviser" pop-up (which I end task through Task Manager)

Earlier this week I removed a rogue Microsoft Security Essentials program by going through my Application Data file, removing the main file, and cleaning the rest of its parts with MBAM.

What I've done to try and find the root cause of the current situation:

I have a laptop that I think has a Trojan but not sure. My Antivirus subscription expired and I was surfing unprotected. Currently, I can access the internet but I am not able to access any internet email site. When I go to hotmail.com or AOL.com and log on all I get is a blank web page with the word "Done" at the bottom. Also, when I bring up the Microsoft Search box the area where you type in your search criteria is missing. I have reloaded Windows XP and loaded AVG Antivirus Software. When I run the Antivirus it shows that the hard drive is clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I am posted under the wrong area.

Thank you,
Lora J.

P.S. I am assuming due to the problems that I am having the "Manage Attachment" button does not appear at the bottom. The ark.txt file was empty. The software stated that it found no modification. I pasted the results from the "Attach.txt" under the "DDS.txt". Sorry for any inconvenience.

I'd try and repair Windows 10. To do this you need to "upgrade" Windows -- I know, sounds wierd --, using the same edition of Windows that's already installed. This "upgrade" requires Windows 10 installation media, which you can obtain using Microsoft's free Media Creation Tool.

Download the correct Windows 10 ISO and then double-click it to mount it as a virtual drive. (Or if you prefer, you can create a bootable USB flash drive, open that removable drive in File Explorer and double-click "Setup" to begin the process).

When it asks if you want to download updates, recommend selecting "Yes" to avoid potential problems.

When prompted what you want to keep --[Important]-- choose "Keep personal files and apps".

Now simply follow the prompts to finish setup.

After a couple restarts, you'll have a refreshed installation of Windows 10, with your programs, apps, and settings all intact.

Hello! I have many multiple issues going on with my computer and I'm finally at my wits end! Now that I'm in school, I really need to rely on my computer for homework, etc. I really need some help! I can't afford a new computer or to have it fixed. Here is a list of whats going on.

1. Whenever the computer restarts it takes about 10 minutes to get to the desktop after staring at a black screen with just my mouse on it. (A couple of months ago my computer wouldn't even load my desktop saying something like Windows Explorer had stopped working. I think I remember having to do a repair but I don't remember how to do that.)

2. It is super slow and "Not Responding" shows up for everything I try to do on my computer (ex. click start, open Foxfire, open Aim, open WoW, any program really) **Edit** Now AIM opens and immediately closes.

3. My sound turns off everytime the computer restarts. In the past, someone told me to just unplug my headset/speakers and plug it in and it will work, which it has, until today. The error I get for this is, "This computer cannot play audio because the Window Audio Service is not enabled." and "Failed to start the Windows Audio Service. Some Functionality will be unavailable."

4. A couple of times in the past, my monitor will dim and then go black. It's been a month or so since that last happened, but I thought I'd list it here.

5. When my computer restarts, it doesn't recogniz... Read more

Good evening.

Thank you in advance for taking a look at my issues.

I run Windows Vista Home Premium on an Acer AMD Turion 6 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 with 2GB of ram.

I'm having some issues lately and have already been to the malware site

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f100/having-multiple-issues-397568.html#post2253080 and they helped a great deal. However I'm still having issues.

First I'm not able to install Windows updates. I recieve error codes 8024402C and 57e whenever I

attempt to update.

2nd I can not seem to log onto any account other than my admin account. If I attempt to log onto

one of my standard user accounts it goes to a blue screen and freezes (not the typical "blue

screen of death" but just a blank screen.

3rd IE is extremly slow to load initially(3-5 minutes). Once my homepage finally does come u, I

seem to be able to surf well.

4th something is going on with my dvd players. I'm beginning to think that this is hardware

related. But on a off chance I'll mention it. Media player will no longer autostart. When I

attempt to start manually it seems to start, but runs so slow that I can see the frames. If it

runs at all It usually just freezes.

5th on occasions avast (my antivirus) seems to freeze and will not allow me to surf the web, I

cut off the resident shield for a moment then turn it back on and the problem usually goes away

until the next time.

HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr (laptop/vista 32).

1) My pc refuses to shutdown or come out of hibernation. It'll get to the "shutting down" blue screen, but refuses to advance.

- It also does the same thing with any windows updates. It gets to to the 1 out of x updates blue screen, but it won't make any progress.

-I used "end it all" to make sure all problems are off before I attempt to log off, still no luck.

For example, if I attempt to download a program off of the internet, once the file is downloaded and I get to the install wizard, it continuously freezes at "please wait...".

-I'm trying to upgrade my drives, but when I try to uninstall the previous drive it stays at "uninstalling devices" for hours...

3) Audio, another pain. I have a 5.1 surround sound. My sound card only supports a "3.1" setup. Any way, the bass is extremely loud compared to the speakers. The bass is irrationally high compared to what I'm listening to. making the system almost useless.

4) Game performance. For one, it's impossible to install any patches, or updates for my drivers. Second (and probably due to the issue stated), it can barely run games such as Mass Effect, Oblivion, Crysis, etc. The only game I can successfully run is Half Life 2 and it's mods.

startup is still a little slow but I accept that now with all the startup programs running but I still have a problem with scrolling text whether I'm on the internet or just notepad and moving windows around is really choppy.

I'm currently running Vista Business 32bit SP2 on a Dell Vostro 1200 notebook, core 2 duo 1.ghz. Below are all the problems. Apologies for the wall of text.

Lately my computer has been doing weird things...Firstly, it randomly froze requiring manual restart. This at first was rare, in the past few days has been increasingly frequent. These freezes have ceased since I installed SP2.

One particular restart resulted in the sound becoming stuttery with distortion and 'staticky' sounds, and music played slower. This is ALL sound. I did notice that the Vista startup sounds were fine. All sounds after logging in were distorted. Also it caused video to skip and in general any graphics lag. Games however are stuttery and 'lag'.

Typing is extremely frustrating as every few seconds the computer lags and a keystroke is missed. No such problems occur when browsing the net or explorer. Sometimes when typing when I use the shift key something happens as if the shiftkey is held down (ie all caps) when typing.

It is as if the cpu is running at ~100% in terms of video and audio. Actual usage is <10%. I don't think it's a hardware issue as one time all the above problems disappeared after 30mins. And came back when I updated iTunes... The clock also seems to slow and get out of time.

HJT log attached

Any help would be much appreciated

I have some serious problems. I have a dell Dimension running WinXP. I've noticed more and more problems over the last couple of months, but tried to fight them using anti-virus (Symentec Corporate with weekly auto-update), Ad-Aware, and Ewido (freeware). However, recently the problem has gotten worse, and tonight I find that my security programs do not work. I cannot access the Symantec control panel, either from the system tray or the file icon in explorer, and both Ad-Aware and Ewido crash while running. I ran several of the free scans on the post pinned in this forum. The Panda software site found several viruses and said it deleted them, but who knows. Other problems: my auto-update for Windows turns off every time I restart my computer, I am getting redirected from Google searches to other random search pages, and I keep getting popups for "WinFixer" and some other supposed security software.

EDIT: CCleanup also crashes when I try to run the registry analyzer.

Here's my HJT log:

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
You have mutiple infections, this may take a few passes to get it all.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lich] lich.exe
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{04556403-1116-407F-B8EE-6727039AAEF2}: NameServer =,
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{04556403-1116-407F-B8EE-6727039AAEF2}: NameServer =,

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis.

Locate the following file, and delete it:

Finally, please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), at the end of this fix..

EDIT: Please move this as i just realized I posted in the wrong forum, very sorry.

Order of events;

Extremely slow response to everything(except my nettalk IRC client)
I realize I have some type of malware because my browser keeps redirecting
Computer then gets extremely slow, I shut down everything I am running and try to scan for problem, scan fails(freezes up)
I restart
I then have lost internet connectivity, it is detecting the network(wireless signal) but it cant repair it.

So i am not sure where to start, I will get whatever logs needed for help but I didnt want to start with that as I am going to haveto hand write them and then reenter them on desktop.

So i am hoping to get my connection back, then move from there.

I know this is vague but the only immediate symptoms were the browser redirects and the grinding halt my machine has run to...any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Alright, so checking the tank to see if it has fuel- internet connectivity issue was caused by the modem and not the netbook. So good on that, all fixed. Just needed to think about it.

I realized when i turn on the netbook I get this error as well

Error Loading C:\WINDOWS\abinodijipatax.dll
The specific module could not be found. "

So there is that, and as I mentioned the slow speeds and the browser redirecting. Note: Both IE and Firefox suffering from the redirecting but Comodo Dragon(a slimmer version of Chrome really) doesnt have that problem.

I am what I would say is a above novice computer person, but I was hit last week with MASSIVE issues on my main PC. I kept it from the other 4 computers on the network.

The instructions say you want as much nfo as possible , so I will give it.
I was at a site I knew I should not have been at, and got hit. I have always used ad-aware, avast anti virus hi jack this etc that download.com recommended. When I got DSL through ATT they offered norton security suite for free, I had bad experiances with it years ago, but figured I would give it a chance, BIG MISTAKE.

I lost total control of my Pc for 8 hours, I slowly managed to shut enough things down and remove .dll files etc to regain some control, internet explorer continued to act like a child on crack. I had to set the ip address at to stop it. I then removed 95% of the programs I had installed on the machine. I can not find my XP PRO cd so I could not do a total reinstall. I can only find part of it, or I would use someone elses copy with my code.

I kept getting various .dll file errors. but finally regained control, set internet explorer back up and fought to get the last of norton out of my registry.

i found this site http://www.techsupportalert.com/best..._utilities.htm and downloaded his recommendations for the most part, it seamed like over kill, but I wanted the best protection I could get. well at the end of installing the programs, on one of the reboots, the task bar and all the icons on the des... Welcome to TSF

Sorry for the delay

Download Combofix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hi all,
I have got a windows error 7 14001.
I noticed weird things yesterday after I downloaded latest windows updates 98 meg worth 2 days prior. Itunes brings up 14001 error 7, mailwasher keeps wanting to close on opening, and I get repeated pop ups saying lan connected and then unplugged.
I recently reinstalled endnote 14 after using clean up which appears to wipe the program from word.
My internet searches don't seem to help me much.
I am using windows xp service pack 3.
I have reinstalled Itunes and it says successfully installed but does not open repeating the 14001 error 7 message.
Will cleaner remove dll files that are sometimes needed to run applications.
I have also had issue with power point saying files are corrupted and needs to open in safe mode. these are uni files and safe.
i reinstalled mailwasher today and now it won't open at all.
My machine is also running really really slow.
I have scanned with nod 32. antimalware bytes super anti spyware and did a kaspersky online scan.
all not revealing anything major.
need some help.
i also closed my kids accounts on the machine and so this is all i have done different in the past few days.

Try doing a "repair install" using your Windows XP CD.
Follow this guide: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If you don't have an XP CD, back up all your user files & perform a factory recovery to re-install XP as it was originally.
