HP Envy Monitor

Q: HP Envy Monitor

Hi there, I have HP Envy Laptop that generates a Grey Screen while the system is idle for sometime or I restart my Laptop each time. Then it goes off (no always) while I try to tilt the Screen towards me or Press my Palm against the screen. This issue is very inconsistent. I am also uploading a screen shot and a video. I would appreciate if you could help or suggest a solution in this regard. Thanks so much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to have a second monitor for my work, so I connected an AOC monitor to my All-In-One Envy 23 pc.  I am using a VGA to USB converter and I am able to get both screens working with the extended display.  However, I am not able to adjust the resolution on my second monitor.  It will not allow me to change it and it is set at 800 x 600.  I need to change it and I am unable to.   I have had a couple computer savy people try to help me with this, but no one can figure it out.  Please help!

@balauf?, welcome to the forum. When requesting help you should always include the make/model (i.e. p6-xxxx) of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them. Once I have the model of the computer, I will try to help you further.  I believe that the best way to solve your problem may be with a USB video adapter.

Please excuse my ignorance on this topic in advance. I just purchased an HP Envy All-In-One.  Model 23o014; Product F3E94AA#ABA.  I'm running Windows 8.1.   I'm very happy with my purchase so far. I also purchased an AOC E2470Sw monitor and would like to connect this as a second monitor to the All-In-One. The AOC monitor has a VGA(? - 15 pin connector) connection), but also has two HDMI inputs.  I THOUGHT (with concurrence from my distracted salesman) that I could connect the two using the HDMI connectors on both machines, but I'm getting a blank screen on the AOC when I try it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,Sally

Hi... The HDMI connector on the base is an input, not an output. For a second monitor, you would need to go with a USB to video adapter.

I have been happily running two monitors since I got this computer in April 2016, one monitor connected to the HDMI port and the other to the DVI port on the NVIDIA GTX 960 card.  This card supports four monitors maximum.  It has 1 HDMI, 1 DVI, and 3 DisplayPort connections. Note that on model 860-010 you cannot use the two vertical HDMI ports marked HDMI 1 and HDMI 2.  They are not active in this model .  They only work with lesser models that use integrated graphics.  This model has the dedicated graphics card, so only the ports on the card are active.  (That's according to HP Support and I can confirm it from experience.)  Now I need to connect a third monitor which only has DVI and VGA ports.  My only option is to connect it to one the DisplayPort ports on the card through an adapter.  I contacted NVIDIA support and they told me that either an *active* or *passive* adapter will work with this card. So I bought a passive DisplayPort to DVI adapter cable and connected the third monitor to one of the DisplayPorts. When I boot, the boot screen shows up on my third monitor but it flags an unspecified error, says it can't start Windows, and offers to recover my system back to a restore point, which I of course decline.  I tried various advanced troubleshooting options, two different DisplayPort ports, and two different DVI monitors with the same... A:How can I run a third monitor on HP Envy Phoenix 860-010

Update: When I run two monitors, one connected to the HDMI port and the other to a DisplayPort through the DisplayPort to DVI passive adapter cable, it works fine. So the cable itself is OK.  It's only when I attempt to run a third monitor through that cable that it fails. I suspect NVIDIA support was wrong when they said a passive adapter would work for a third monitor.  I've heard of a video card that works fine with a passive adapter for the first two monitors but requires an active adapter for the third.  I was hoping the NVIDIA GTX 960 was not like that.  Does anybody know for sure? Also, the precise sequence of boot messages with the third monitor is: 1. Preparing Automatic Repair screen.2. Diagnosing Your PC screen.3. Automatic Repair screen with message "Windows couldn't load correctly"

A:Dual monitor for Envy 23

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete HP model name and/or product number of the computer in question. Most HP AIO and TouchSmart computers do not have video output ports of any kind (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) Some HP AIO and TouchSmart computers do have a HDMI input for use with video players and game consoles but this is strictly an input and doesn't provide a video signal for use with an external display. To use an external display with your HP Envy 23 will most likely require a USB-to-video adapter, such as the eVGA UV Plus+ UV19, UV39, or a similar device from another brand. Please send KUDOs

Have used an external monitor for over 2 years with no problem.  Suddenly, my external monitor is no longer detected.  It works on other computer.  Tried switching from HDMI to VGA-no help.  Tried different HDMI cable-no help. Sometimes if I disable and enable the Intel HD graphics card it will come back but not every time.  Updated video drivers.  I saw another older post but the supposed fix link does not work anymore. The external monitor is simply not detected even though the laptop "beeps" when I plug in the HDMI cable so it recognizes that being plugged in.  Monitor stays dark. Any idea?

I have an HP Envy 27inch all in one PC and I would like to use it as a second monitor for my iMac occationally (mainly for Lightroom running on the Mac). I have a Miniport (iMac) to HDMI cable (for Envy) and have conected them both up and pressed the screen toggle on the underneath of the Envy's monitor.  The iMac does not find the monitor (or the other way around). On the iMac, no second screen option is showing on the dispay tab of "Preferences" so the iMac is not aware of the connection. According to the Apple pages, once you have plugged in the Envy and toggle the screen, the iMac should find it. I have plugged in my Microsoft Surface 3 (USB 3 to HDMI cable) into the Envey, hit toggle and it works straight away, so this might be an Apple problem of course. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

My Envy 23 died a few monts ago, and I've been stuggling to get it repaired.  Was not under warranty at the time, and HP refused to help.  First repair facility said it was a bad mother board, but couldn't source one to fix the unit - recommended scrapping it, which was unacceptable to me.  Next repair facility determined Mother Board is OK, and traced it to video monitor being bad.   I have not been able to locate a replacement monitor for this machine.  The HP part number is 696330-001, and no one seems to have it available - or if so, seems the price is over $600 U.S. for the part. Can anyone please help me?  This machine is 3 years old, was over $1400 new, and it just seems completely unacceptable to junk a very nice machine that is in great shape for lack of being able to find a new monitor.  I've been using my much older HP laptop in the interim, but that solution isn't workable long term.

Hello Forum --      Up until about a week ago, my HP Envy 20 was working beautifully. Then, when I went to start it up one morning, the fans started running as normal, but the display remained black (as if I hadn't even started the PC). I took it to my local Best Buy to figure out what was wrong, but because my PC doesn't have an HDMI port, they couldn't connect it to an external monitor to find out if the PC trully powered on. Therefore, the agent I spoke with recommended just tossing out the computer and getting a new one because I'd either have to buy a new motherboard or a new display for the computer, and that those repairs outweighed the value of the computer. I'm trying to find out exactly what's wrong with my PC on my own, because the guy seemed a little too enthusiastic to push me towards the computers that Best Buy offers. Any ideas on how to find out what's wrong? Thanks!

gervaisharry222 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! I use a USB-to-VGA adapter to drive a third monitor for my desktop and find it works great!  I can't use it for videos or gaming, because the USB 2.0 port doesn't provide enough bandwidth, but I have the other two monitors for that. What you buy is up to you.  If you use a USB 3.0 port, then you would have enough bandwidth to drive either HDMI or DVI -- and the choice then depends on how much you want to spend.Good Luck

The computer recognizes the monitor and when I  get into configuring the monitor that is where I am getting problems, or things aen't working as I expected. When I go into "Extend", all I see is my desktop on the second monitor minus the Icons and if I'm watchig a movie on the laptop, I lose the audio on the laptop. If I chose "Duplicate", there is no picture on the second monitor and on the laptop I have a picture but no audio. If I chose "Second Screen Only", there is a picture and my Icons on that monitor but no audio if I'm watching a movie. Not sure if what I'm trying to do is at all possible . Most refresh rate checkers simply check the output from the computer - I think! My questionis to ask  whether this conversion is possible and if so how can i confirm it has happened?

Hello all, A few days ago I received a brand new HP Envy that I purchased directly from HP. I have discovered that it has what appears to be one dead pixel in the monitor. I say "what appears to be" because upon very close inspection it looks like maybe an adjacent pixel is not as bright as it should be. Or perhaps this is just a trick of the light, the "deadness" of the one dead pixel creeping over and influencing how the adjacent pixel is perceived? If I had to bet my life on it I'd say it is just a single dead pixel... but the point is that it may be two. Apparently this is important because if two pixels next to each other are defective, then my warranty would allow me to exchange the computer for a new one (correct?), whereas if it's just a single dead pixel then the warranty wouldn't cover it. BUT is it also possible that I could return it anyway, since it's a brand new computer that arrived with the defect? I have looked online and in some places the internet pundits make it seem as if HP will allow returns for whatever reason as long as they are initiated within 21 days. All of that being said, if anyone can tell me what my options are, I would very much appreciate it. I enjoy the computer very much so far, but this dead pixel(s) thing does bug me slightly.
