Preferred Solution: I plug in vga cable and nothing shows up on my Monitor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,

I've been rearranging my workspace, and tried to connect my monitor (viewsonic 19in flat screen) with an extension svga cable. The machine powers on and I get a display, but the optimal viewing resolution (the monitor has a little popup message that says 1440x900) is not available as an option when I go into display settings.
When I look in device manager, the monitor is listed as a generic plug/play device. Do I need to manually install a driver from teh manufacturer? Previously, when just plugging the monitor directly to the machine with no cable the display looked fine, but now it doesn't look as good.

thanks,
bp

A:monitor detected as standard plug and play when connected with extension cable

You'd be better of with a long high quality cable then using an extension.

Yes, install the drivers from the manufactures website. These will help your GPU set the correct resolution.

Usually when we plug in a SATA drive it will show up in explorer but it doesn't now after I install Windows 10 (clean install). It work well when I'm on Win 7.

I've check the BIOS it indicate all ports AHCI an I never change anything since Win 7. So what could be the problem? As I swap drives often this feature really important for me, please help. Thanks.

A:Hot plug SATA HDD or DVD drive doesn't shows or not detected

You may use "Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager.

Hot plug still works in Windows 10 but sometimes with an unknown interference, it won't detect the swapping.

Iam building a system around a new Intel D955XBK motherboard, which has the integrated audio, and I cannot determine where to plug the little audio cable that connects to the CD-ROM drive. In my old system there was a port on the audio card for it.

Hi all,

I have a Linksys Wireless router WRT54G, the instructions say to click the cable from the cable modem, into the Internet port on router. What if I don't have a cable modem and I want to click a cable from the data jack on the wall into the router? Do I still plug it in the Internet port or do I click it in one of the other ports? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi their first of all my computer spec:

I have a thermaltake supranoVB1000SWS case, Asus P5KC motherboard, windows 7 ultimate 64bit, Intel Quad core Q6600 CPU, 2GB corsair XMS DDR2 800mhz RAM, 1TB Samsung spinpoint hard-drive, DVD-drive

what it is, I bought my new case ( the thermaltake supranoVB1000SWS) a couple of weeks ago, so obviously I had to swap all my hardware into it from my older case.
Everything worked perfectly in my older case, its when I swapped everything to my new case that I started having problems with my DVD drive.
When I connect the IDE and power cable upto it, and switch my computer on their is no power getting to the drive, well no lights light up, flicker or do anything.
But once i turn my computer off and remove the IDE cable, but leave the power cable in, the DVD drive powers up, the draw opens and closes like normal, it only doesnt come on when the IDE cable is plugged in.

The DVD drive is set to master, this is IDE
My hard-drive is SATA so thats automatically goes to master.

The dvd drive is not detected in the BIOS ( revision 1203)

I have checked the IDE connector on the motherboard its-self and none of the pins or damaged or bent etc, I have even tried a new IDE cablr but the same happens.

Please can you help me thank you.

Had a similar problem moving an optical drive to the secondary IDE port on new computer a while ago. Had to change the jumper on the drive from Master to Cable Select (CS) to get it to work. It might be worth trying on your computer. You would need an IDE cable that supports CS with gray and black connectors for the drives.

Hello guys , i have a problem with my desktop pc and I really can't find a solution to it. Recently , I started to get dc and the only way of making it work again was to turn off my modem, wait 10 seconds and then restart the pc. Recently i was downloading a game from steam and after 3/25 gb it dc again. Troubleshooter reported 2 problems. The first with an red x stating that an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or it might be broken (my cable is new and it works fine) and one with a yellow triangle stating that local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration. Ok so I gave up and did 2 things: first i checked my hardware. They said it works perfectly . Then I unplugged my modem thinking that this was the problem. I plugged the cable directly into my pc and had to use dial-up connection. Ok , i entered the user and pass , connected and after a few days of perfect connection i've decided to resume the download. After downloading another gb it crashed again . So out of frustration i took my pc to my friend and used his connection for the download . It worked perfectly . Now i am back home and guess what? After trying to download a large file it crashed again and now it won't even connect back. i. Have never seen something like this , it just collapses if it uses up more that 3-4 mb/s . Now the troubleshooter says the swme about the cable and the ip . My settings are to obtain an automatic ip ... My driver is fine , my cable is fine , wireless on laptop wor... Read more

A:Plug an ethernet cable into this computer ????

I would first try power cycling both the modem and router. unplug both and wait about a minute; then plug the modem back in first; and let that boot; then plug the router back in and let it boot. Also, check for a firmware upgrade for your router. If there is one; download and install it. Once that is done.I would go into the device manager in the control panel and uninstall any either net related connections and or devices. Any onboard network cards; uninstall them and let reboot and let windows hopefully detect it and reinstall the proper drivers, etc for it. Try any or all of these things and see if they help ya out any.

Can I plug in the power cable to a sata drive (already connected to sata port on mobo), while the computer is on.

With that drive connected Windows will not boot (I never have had a problem with the drive before, even when installing windows). If I remember right, a few years ago, I moved the pagefile to that drive, and it also had a boot.ini file on it (for some reason) I wonder if that is the problem (never until now), because when that drive is installed windows hangs at starting windows.

A:Plug in a sata power cable

If the SATA controller is set to AHCI mode, and the SATA port the drive is on is set to allow "hot-swap", then yes you could. If not, then no you can't.

You should post a screenshot of your Disk Management window with the problem drive connected. Expand the window so everything can be read.

I have a laptop that i received from my father about 5 months or so, it's pretty old because it was the vista model and I usually play games like LoL, SC Brood war, Warcraft 3 and Osu. Today I was using my laptop and i went away to clean my pet's cage then when i came back, my screen was black unnaturally. I thought that it was just some random problem that wasn't really that harmful until I tried turning the computer back up again with surprising results. When I booted the laptop again it took me to the screen where you got to chose whether you can solve what the problem was that made the computer suddenly shut down or just boot regularly. I tried to ust boot it up regularly when suddenly it rebooted again. It repeated this process about 5 times when I had enought and got a bit frustrated and slapping my laptop. It then showed up bluescreens for the next 4 hours or so. I plugged everything out that was on the laptop, my Blue Snowball microphone, Royche Optical mouse, ethernet cable and my Sony Stereo Headphones MDR- XD200. Finally after a bit when the bluescreens and blackscreens didn't appear I quickly went otn the website to search this up and also went on my anti-virus programs to clear any malwares or viruses. I don't know what's wrong with my laptop, and I don't know if my laptop will act weird again if i plug in my accessories.

Hi!

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet with my Acer Aspire laptop using an ASDL cable coming from a router.

The account username and password are set up. When I insert the ADSL ethernet cable in to my laptop, and click 'Connect' in the dial up box, it goes through the dialling, check password etc, and in 2 seconds, I am online, and it shows as connected in the bottom right of the screen, with the speed (100Mps).

Then, my laptop just freezes. The mouse won't move, and everything is frozen. not even the Ctrl Alt Del works. I've left it at least 20 minutes and nothing happens so I have to reset. On re-startup, it goes to a blue screen and prompts to run a file check of FAT 32(?).

Have tried this a few times, all with the same result. I usually connect via WIFI at home, but I am in Beijing for 2 weeks, using a friends internet cable. Works fine on his laptop (this one- ThinkPad X41) so not the internet thats causing the problem. Have connected to the interent via cable before in England with no such probs (although that was with a USB cable - not sure if that makes any difference?)

If anyone could help, I'd be so grateful - really need my laptop. I'm using Windows XP, and have the basic Norton Security service that comes on a free trial basis with most new laptops.

Thanks in hope...

Richie.

I am having trouble with the prongs where the power cable is plugged in on the back of the tower. The computer does not come on unless I jiggle the prongs. The computer stays on just fine, then, so long as I don't turn it off. If I have to turn it off, then to get it on the next time, I have to jiggle the prongs again. I have already replaced the power cord, so I know it's not that. Have you ever heard of this happening? Is it possible to replace this part?
Thank you for your help! Maggie

Just out of curiosity, are you connected 24/7 as for dsl line, or are you dial-up, and do you plug in the ethernet cable while the system is live, or do you do it while the system is turned off.

Plug in the cable while the system is turned off, or reboot your computer with the cable connected. When the OS reboots, it should be able to detect that the cable is not disconnected from the ethernet hardware and boot successfully.

You should also check the ethernet card mfg website for an up-to-date driver for your ethernet card to make sure it has the latest driver.

Hope this helps,

I have one very long cable so I was thinking I could run it to the wireless router where I need it, and have the non-wireless router by the computer that needs to be plugged in and run a cable from that to the computer as well as have the long cable plugged in and run that to the wireless router. Make sense? Would that work?

My old Windows 7 desktop sounds normal on booting up but I can't see anything on the monitor. I may not have the monitor connected properly.

A couple of years ago I bought a used corporate desktop PC with Windows 7 and used it for a while. Then I bought a new laptop and I haven't used the desktop since. Now I need to get a couple of programs off the desktop. But when I turn it on nothing shows on the monitor. The computer sounds like it's booting up okay.

I am using the very same monitor that I used before when it was working. And yes, it works and I have it turned on. (I am typing on this monitor right now (with the newer computer)). This desktop has a large port for a monitor that you connect a splitter connector to and then connect the monitor to one of the two smaller jacks coming out of the splitter connector. As I recall. when I first bought the computer I connected my monitor to a monitor port on the computer which fit the monitor's cable and it didn't work. I contacted the seller who told me to connect it to one of the splits and it worked.

But for some reason now it's not working. It could be something simple. It may have something to do with the 2-monitor configuration of which I know little.

So my question is how can I proceed toward seeing what's going on on this Windows 7 desktop computer enough to retrieve several Visual Basic programs?

A:Nothing shows on monitor after start computer / 2 monitor Win7 desktop

Project mate soem system specs on that desktop would be handy ie what graphic hook ups does it have on the I/O panel and the monitor too.

One alternative is to take out the hard drive hook it up using a USB to (I assume it is SATA) to SATA drive gadget and view it as an external drive. If it is an IDE one the gadget will still do it. See pic.

T5810 upgrade to Titan X GPU which requires one 8-pin & one 6-pin connector for power.  I ordered an 8-pin to 6+8-pin cable as suggested by searches.  It plugs perfectly into the GPU but has no place to plug in on the PSU board:
www.fkaelectronic.com/.../2016081717321794141.jpg
It does not fit into the 8-pin spot on the lower left.  It fits in the 10-pin spot with the bottom two left open, but does not work.  The power light flashes amber.
Is there another way to power the GPU with this PSU board?

Tried:

- at screen resolution I see multiple displays and I have it set on extended.
- Clicked detect and identify
- #2 says display device on vga
- tried unplugging and reconnecting the cable (hdmi to vga)

I'm lost. SOS!

lol!

Thx,

A:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

I rebooted but the same thing happened... i know its not the computer because the CRT monitor has been working fine on it for almost a year now and still is working, but i'm baffled to as to what the problem is... followed the manuals troubleshooting instructions and installed the drivers and set the monitor setting to that of my new monitor, but that didnt work...also tried switching it into "Plug and Play" as the monitor setting but that didnt work either... can anyone please offer me some advice as to how to get this working? any and all help is appreciated... Thank you - Justin

A:New Monitor Shows Boot Up But Then Shows "no Input Signal"

Ii's probably this. Boot into safe mode (tap F8 on boot up), and set the resolution to 60-65Hz. Then reboot as usual. The new monitor probably cant handle the res it is set at now.

If that doesn't work, come back.

Scorp.

I working on a HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop with: AMD Athlon 64, 2GHz; 512MB PC2700; Bios ver.: F.1A; 128MB dedicated Video memory; Running XP Home Edition SP3. I have a DSL modem with a Linksys WRT54-g wireless router.

When I first got this computer in, It wouldn't even boot into safe mode. I checked the BIOS to see if everything was there. When I ran the Bios Tools Short test (estimated test time 2 minutes) it never got above 10% complete after a half hour. I tried the Long test and the same thing... it never got above the 10% mark. Using a copy of the XP repair console, I ran a scan on the HD and found several errors. I had to replace the master boot file. Then I ran the restore utility to recover back to when I knew it was working properly. When I got it to boot into Windows, I ran scans for malware but found nothing but some non critical adware, which I cleaned up. I then cleaned up the start menu and everything worked great.

Except... the ethernet cable shows up as disconnected. No indicator lights come on when I plug the cable into the jack. It is a good cable and does work on my other computers.

I went back to the BIOS setup utility > Advanced Tab, only the Embedded Wireless LAN device is shown and it is enabled. In the Boot Order Tab, it shows the order as: CD-rom> Floppy> +Hard Drive> Network Adapter. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the NIC and the driver, I reset the DSL and router. I checked the following:

Ran cmd>ipconfig/all and:

Hi,

Sometimes when I start my PC, or I start it from sleep, the Ethernet shows as unplugged. If I go into device manager, it shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it (attached image). If I 'Scan for hardware changes' it starts to work again, until I shutdown or start from sleep.

I have updated all drivers, and installed all windows updates, but it still does it.

Any ideas?

A:Ethernet cable shows as disconnected

Did you check the Power management setting to make sure that it is not set to have the computer shut it off to conserve power? Windows 7 ethernet goes to sleep! [solved]

A lot of times the Gateway or Switch will go into "Green" mode, when the computer stops pinging back, when the Gateway sends out a request for Ping Alive, to see if the device is online. The same with the adapters.

Any device on the computer that Power Saving can be set for, should be unchecked. You can also go into the Advanced power settings and make changes to all settings for the system.

I'm not much of a VM expert. I have a couple of win7 systems running a WinXP VM that I installed manually, in all those cases, the virtual network has always just booted up and worked. Under Win8 Pro-RTM, I did a XP VM that I loaded myself (versus an XP mode) and it loads the virtual network adapter but it reports that the cable is unplugged

I'm not clear on what this means. Obviously, it's a VM so there is no cable to plug in. I'm guessing I'm suppose to match that Virtual Nic to the regular (aka Host's) NIC but I'm not see any options to do so.

On the same system I run windows 7 Ult and a XP install and the network loads up on boot.

Any guesses here?

Thanks

Dale

A:XP VM under Windows 8 shows network cable unplugged

Hi there

There are too many possibilities here because we don't know what VM program you're using:
Virtual PC, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, VMPlayer/Wokstation, Parallels, others?...

Thanks

This Road Runner Cable Modem shows only one DNS Server.

This is the first time I've looked into the settings of any cable or DSL modem and seen only one DNS server listed.

Is this unusual?

Am I doing something wrong.

I used IPCONFIG /ALL

So my network icon shows the cable and a red X, but I'm posting this from the same computer. I have two adapters, but one is disabled. I have tried disabling the adapter in use, enabling the other, and plugging the cable into that...same problem. I got a different cable out, and still have the same problem.

It's not a functionality problem, but still...it's annoying as hell ^.^

The onboard network adapter can be disabled from the BIOS.
It's usually a good idea to disable it from there, if you're not going to use it.

Can you cut the wifi cable and the monitor cable, remove the cover/scree and use an external monitor without having to go inside and unplug them?

A:Can you cut the wifi cable and the monitor cable?

Hi, 1. Wifi is normally for wireless (no cable at all).2. You can cut anything BUT we need to know exactly what is your hardware to be able to show you where to cut or can not cut. Regards.

This is kind of a strange problem, but my monitor plug is missing a few of the prongs that are inserted into the computer. I was wondering if this could be fixed, or do I need to buy a new monitor?

A:Monitor Plug

I just had a look at a spare and it seems to have a few holes where you would think pins should be, works fine.

My MOBO is ASUS P4P800 Deluxe.
I just recently flashed my BIOS to the latest BETA version from the German ASUS FTP site in order to correct my compatibility issues detecting my 300GB Maxtor SATA drive.

All was perfect until I tried to connect my mobile phone via USB and something went wrong and it wouldn't detect properly. The phone does, however, show up under USB devices as MOTOROLA USB MODEM, like it did in the past.

So I don't know what's the problem... and don't know how related this issue is, but then I saw that under 'System Devices' there is 'Plug-N-Play BIOS Extension' listed twice.

First one is fine, second one shows an exclamation mark and under properties it says that there is some corruption in the registry or something.

I don't like exclamation marks anywhere under Device Manager. I hope someone can tell me how to fix this...

Do I look for a driver? And if so, which one and where? Is this 'device' suppose to be listed twice? Maybe I should just try 'removing' it?

When I boot my system my monitor has 3 of everything on the desk top...( I know my old eyes are bad), but I do the "add new hardware" to correct this every time...any suggestions to help me would be appreciated.
Monitor: Nec MultiSync A500 ( I now old old)
OS: win 98se

A:Monitor Plug and Play

Try starting your computer up in safe mode. and check the resolution setting of the graphics. If it is set too high for your old old monitor as you put it, lower the resolution. Try 800X600. Also try setting your color quality to a lower setting.

I have a little problem...
I have CTX PR705F monitor whch doesn't have drivers(even in CTX homepage). I was sad that it should be found as Plug & Play monitor and work properly. But it didn't, it found it as a standard monitor. So, does anyone know how you can chose Plug & PLay manually?
I tryed reinstallng and 'manually chosing' the drivers but couldn't find plug & PLay
Any ideas?
(I have Win ME)

A:Plug & Play monitor

Right-click on your desktop and chose "Properties". That will bring you to the "Display" option in "Control Panel". Click on "Settings", and then on the "Advanced" button near the bottom.

Next, click on the "Change" button near the top of the new window and then look for and select "Plug and Play Monitor". Windoze should be able to find and load the standard Plug and Play monitor drivers for you.
