Q: Very poor quality HInges- Dell Inspiron 3558- Hinges broken with in 7 month- But dell say does not cover under warranty.

Hi
Today I face the same issue with poor quality hinges which got broken. I will request all to say no to DELL laptop.
Service Tag:<Service tag removed>
Express Service Code: <Express service code removed>
After 6 -7 month of use your hinges gone. Dell India support say, this does not cover on warranty.here was no drop, spill or accidental damage done to the laptop.
Dell India support say it is due to usage. Please note laptop is meant to be use and not to keep on showcase. If your hinges broken with in 6 month, do you think next time the same user will ever look for a Dell laptop.
Either improve your quality in India or replaced your poor quality spare. Or else simple go away from India.
Our PM Mr Modi will not tolerate such poor quality service to Indian. I am going to take this matter to highest level. Please inform your India service to replace my hinges asap.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Dell Support Team,
I have noticed that top cover of my newly bought XPS 13 has crumpled near the hinges area. Please refer to the pictures attached to see the xact issue.

Now, I have called the support line, but was told that this kind of damage is not included in the basic warranty and could be repaired with a fee only. How come? This is clearly a defect of this laptop and should be either repaired or replaced. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
I am sure, that over the course of time, this will crack open completely.
Thanks in advance for some support here!

A:New Dell XPS 13 - top cover crumpled near hinges area

If "newly bought" means less than 21 days from shipment, call Dell and have the system replaced under the 21 day satisfaction guarantee.  If there is evidence of the hinges binding, call them back if it's older than that and they'll repair it.  Unfortunately, if you're out of 21 days from shipment and the problem is cosmetic rather than functional, they won't repair it -- for the same reason a new car dealer won't repair a car that suffers a shopping cart impact the day after it's purchased.

I'll start by saying this, I have never dropped this laptop. I am willing to photograph every inch of it to prove that case.
A few months after buying I noticed that every time I lifted the screen, using only the amount of pressure necessary to do so, the casing began to split at the base where the hinges attached. After having the laptop sent to Dell "support" I was told that I had caused the damage and it wasn't covered by their warranty. Funny though, because with some basic searching I found out that this problem is pretty rampant with the inspiron 7559 model. But of course, just because hundreds of people have the same issue and have even posted photos like mine, its still my fault and has nothing to do with a faulty design. So after refusing to pay the $160, they shipped it back and the best part is, I HAD TO RE-ATTACH THE ****ING KEYBOARD. They couldn't even be bothered to put the thing back together again properly. Don't buy a Dell. Just don't do it.

Hello
My Inspirion 15 - 7000 Series 7559 is still under the 1 year normal warranty.

The plastic around the left hinge of the laptop seams to have given away and they computer starts to crack up and open when you want to move the screen to open or close it.

I have informed myself on the issue and it seams that Another 20 people have the SAME issue with this dell Inspiron 15 7000 7559 model:  The plastic around the hinge opens up!
Here is the Record of that forum :

It seams that dell made a sticky post saying hinges are not covered by the warranty. And that the issues is caused by physical damage. the computer is in mint condition and has been taken care  and of course never been drop.

Mr  DELL-Chris  a dell spoke person said on the previous Link I provided:
""
In our usability labs with volunteers, we noted that the wear and tear on the left hinge was in how users repeatedly incorrectly opened the lid on the right corner putting stress on the left hinge.
Correct = Raise the lid by grasping the center of the lid and opening
Incorrect = Raise the lid by grasping the right corner of the lid and opening which adds twisting torque to the left hinge.
The policy will remain. Hinges are considered a consumable and fall under the Dell Wear & Tear policy.""

I was always careful to open the computer with 2 hands from the center as indicated. I have a collection of laptops since an early teenage age and handle my ba... Read more

My Dell Inspiron 5000 series is under warranty (extended) till Sept 2017. The accidental coverage was over by September 2016. I have been facing a cracking sound of the hinges for quite a long time. I have reported dell about the issue.
"The cover was tight and hard to open since the last service after my LCD screen was replaced for having white spots. Since I had to move to the United States for a year, it was not able to report the issue immediately. It has become too hard to open the cover and I presume it will break soon. If the hinges are broken, is it covered under warranty? I still have the extended warranty. It is important that I have to sue the laptop everyday"
and I received an answer:
"Sir, I would like to inform you that your system is not covered under Accidental Damage Warranty( Complete Cover). Your system is covered under the basic Hardware warranty which covers Hardware faults.Kindly confirm whether the system is currently in U.S or in India. However, as you have mentioned that the Lid(cover) has become too hard to open and can lead to breakage, there is an option to visit our Dell Authorized Service Center (if the system is in India) where the Technicians can check the system thoroughly and fix all the issues for you. Hi all,
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 i5558-5717SLV Signature Edition
Purchase date: 12/09/2015
I am so glad to see to see that I am not the only one who has a hinge cover broken as I was beginning to think that I might have accidentally bumped the laptop somewhere (I am extremely cautious electronics user and none of the electronics products I used had physical damage in past.).   As you can see in picture, left side hinge cover is broken which causes the display screen to come off when I try to close the lid.  Getting hold of the customer representative is an ordeal itself but when I finally could get hold of the guy, he told me that this damage is not covered under the one-year warranty and I will have to pay $150/- in order for this laptop to get looked at by dell professional plus have to bear the cost of the new part.
Apart from this problem, touchpad is too sensitive to touch of my palm and cursor goes all over the place when I type. I have tried to change touchpad settings from control panel and uninstall the touchpad drivers but it has not helped.
Overall I think this laptop is of low quality. Now I understand that Inspiron products can’t be compared with Vostro or Latitude products, but this laptop is bad for even Inspiron standards. My four-year-old Inspiron N4110 is way better than this laptop and still working fine. I am sorry to say this but this has been one of the worst products I have ever used.

I do not recall damaging anything and its both hinges. As far as I know the hinges move independent of one another so this is really weird. Is this normal and/or will they work when i attach the LCD cover again?

The screen panel hinges on a Dell Latitude C610 I have are EXTREMELY loose. Everything else about the system is perfectly fine, it was my main computer for about ten months. But if the screen is not propped against a wall or something, it will fall open or fall shut every single time. Balance the screen in a perfectly vertical position, sure, but if someone walks by or closes a door it will fall open or fall shut. Really annoying. People have actually told me to use duct tape or super glue. Is there an easy, step-by-step guide to (ideally) fixing, or (if not) replacing these hinges? Thanks in advance

I've had this machine about about a week, so far I really like it.  Can't say yet that I love it yet, but it does what I need it to and the price is better than a tablet with the same functions and already has a keyboard.  This machine is kept in a padded case when not used in my desk drawer it does not bounce around in my briefcase etc.
This morning the left button on the touch pad does not work.  At first glance it sort of looks like it is caught on something or stuck, the right button works great a broken switch under the button is also possible but this thing doesn't move at all I'd think a switch would still move just not contact properly inside.  I need my machine and I've made a couple of upgrades like a SSD for the stock hard drive and a 8 gig ram chip, I am not thrilled about pulling those components in order to return for warranty replacement etc. as I'm pretty sure you won't be returning the same machine I sent in.  I'm considering pulling it apart to see if it is indeed stuck so it can be pushed back out from the inside but if this is a common issue with this machine I'd like to know that...
Can I be sent a new touch pad component, I believe I saw this is a separate board that attaches to the motherboard with a ribbon cable?  I'm not afraid of this procedure myself as I've been building desktops since the 90's and this is a really simple hardware to work on from the looks o... A:New week old Inspiron 11 3000 3558 (touch) stuck or broken button on touch pad--warranty parts replacement?

This is an fyi about the final resolution of this issue.  After a lot of arguing dell sent me what was supposed to be the touchpad but what I got was only the plastic palmrest no touchpad. Then because it's a "daughter card" I got more argument about the touchpad.  I got hot enough that I opened up the back, lifted out the battery, took out the two funky looking screws and the whole pad just fell right out of the machine.  The buttons seemed fine so I screwed it back down, put the battery back in and closed it up.  It's now great, the button was indeed hung up on the edge of the plastic palmrest.  This is a very well designed inside machine, it all screws down and all connections are with plugs or ribbon cables.  I wrote back to dell and told them they need to fire their tech manual writers because they're idiots, a monkey could have done this.  Apparently it is not easy to find only the mouse pad it's generally sold with the palmrest from what I can tell.  This whole machine is so well designed I scratch my head why the cpu isn't socketed unless they decided there was no room for a socket etc, which I can see that argument.  So if your mouse pad quits try popping it out first it may just be hung up.

It is evident that failing hinges are a significant problem with HP laptops. I am one of the people who experienced this. In my case, it was very shortly after the 1st year had passed and HP would not stand behind their product. I can't find any acknowlegement from HP that reliable hinges are difficult to design, that they have used faulty design or hardware, that they have made improvements in the last few years, that they will provide free/inexpensive repair after the warranty has expired, etc. I assume they prefer to deal with each case individually so as to avoid opening up liability. My question is, are there now better hinges or are they basically the same design with the same problem? After my HP broke, I bought a Lenovo. The hinge broke on it after a year, just like my HP, but Lenovo stood behind their product. For that reason, I'd like to buy another Lenovo, but HP has the model I like.

Just bought a new Dell laptop. It has decent specs: windows 10 with i3-5015u(2.1ghz), Intel HD 5500 graphics, 4gb ram, 1tb HDD.  Even though the specs aren't that bad, my laptops really slow. It's been like that ever since I got it. Takes a while to boot up. When it boots, the task bar and windows menu are really slow to load. I can't play games because my laptop crashes after I exit. I jut bought this laptop new. Why is it so slow?

A:Help with Dell Inspiron 3558

The three limiting factors:
A relatively weak CPU (and GPU),
The 4G of memory and most of all,
the conventional hard drive.
This system should be find for web browsing or word processing - it's just in no way shape or form a performance system -- nor is it for gaming of any caliber.

I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop from best buy two days ago. The laptop was slow on first boot and I thought it was normal since it's getting everything together first time use. The laptop was pretty fast for a while. I downloaded a few things and installed Titanium internet security. I also made a 75GB partition and created a system image. After a while, I noticed that my laptop took a long time to boot(~200s) and when it did boot up, the search bar and menu would take some time to work after I clicked on it. However , I was able to play the games i downloaded pretty well. Today, the same startup problems remained. When I went to play Blade & Soul, my laptop froze on the launcher several times and I had to force shut it(hold power button) to get my laptop to work. I set the compatibility mode to Windows7 and the problem was resolved with freezing during launch. However, every time I play Blade & Soul and exit the game, my computer becomes really laggy until I restart. I also tried Blacklight: Retribution and it was surprisingly laggy in game and my laptop became slow after exit. I ran disk defragment and it didn't do much good. Every startup, my laptop is slow. Every time I exit a game, my laptop is slow. I just bought it yesterday brand new so why am I getting all these problems?
The laptops stats are:
5th gen i3-5015u (2.1 GHz)
Intel HD 5500 graphics
4 GB RAM

I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 15 3558 two days ago. The first day, boot was slow and I thought it was due to the computer setting everything up for first use. Now its been two days and I still have the same problem. I noticed that the dell logo appears twice, once with the loading circle spinning and the other time with the loading circle frozen. It also takes about 130 seconds for me to get to the login screen. When i log in, everything takes some time to load and the windows start menu and search don't work until after 30 seconds. I have to wait an additional minute for everything to load properly. Also, whenever i play games that I can support, they are slow on low graphics and after I exit a game, my laptop becomes unusable. I usually have to restart my laptop for it to work without freezing or any lag. I just bought this laptop brand new and the specs are decent. Why do I have so many problems?

I recently took my laptop apart to install a new chip of RAM into the extra slot. Everything seemed to have gone well except after I got my laptop pieced back together I tried to restart my laptop and it started making a very loud beeping sound repeatedly. My laptop went to an error message stating something along the lines of "No memory detected on previous boot" and gave me the option to restart, and upon doing so my laptop starts up without the beeping.
The problem is, my laptop still says it only has 4GB of RAM instead of 8GB and my laptop will repeatedly beep very loudly any time I start it up.
How do I get my laptop to register the new RAM I've added and stop beeping every time I start it up?
The model number on the new RAM I inserted is M471B5273DH0-CH9

I bought my wife an HP Envy M6 notebook in March 2015. She has the exact same problem that other people have had with their notebook hinges. In her case, both have broken somehow.  Her notebook casing separates from the screen  when opening/closing, and it is hard to keep open unless you push the screen 110 - 120 degrees or so. When the notebook is closed, you can see a big gap between the screen and the casing. At this time, her screen has not suffered, but I experienced something similar myself with an older HP notebook and my screen turned light blue. I would like to avoid hers to get to that point. The warranty on her notebook has expired already, but I would like do something, so that she can continue using her laptop for another couple of years if possible. I think HP should have a plan (repair/replace) for this specific issue, since it seems to be a very common one among HP notebook owners.  This is the 3rd case of a hinge issue with HP notebooks in our household. I have kept getting them because I like their looks and versatility, but I am getting to the point where I might have to switch to a different manufacturer with stronger built machines.  Would appreciate any help... Thank you!

The Hinges on my computer are broken. I have taken special care of my notebook and never dropped it.  Rarely does it leave my desk.  Please give me recommendations on how to fix this issue. Thanks

Is the warranty still valid?  If so, contact HP (hyperlink at bottom-left of this web-page). Sometimes, just posting here attracts the attention of an HP employee, who will send "private E-mail" to you, about your problem.

I have ordered the X1 Carbon 7th generation model 3 times so far, exactly like in this article:https://www.tomshardware.com/news/lenovo-laptop-quality-control-issues,37510.html The first time: the touchpad coating was defective. The second time: a mushy keyboard with the letter keys giving out different sounds. The third time (and I still have this unit): The keyboard is back to normal, but the touchpad now gives out sounds like in the cheapest junk out there. The screen hinges are so stiff that there is no way of opening the laptop with one hand, whereas in the second unit I ordered it was possible. My question is if the owners of this model are able to open their laptops with one hand? I now know this is possible in some units but I am wondering if it was just luck the last time or if this should be a standard feature? PS I'm just desperate to have an ok quality laptop on which I can instal linux, that's why I have been reordering it, but frankly I think at this price point it's a joke. Shame on you Lenovo!

Hi guys!I need a little help:
I got a Dell Inspiron 15 3558 laptop: i5 5200u , gt920m 2GB, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD.
I installed win7 professional 64bit OS, but i got DirectX issues: after i installed all of my drivers with the official website and AdvancedSystemCare, it worked well.
After few days, i cant play any games, even i got no high expectation: GTA SA, GTA 4, COD 2, COD4.
It seems to be a DirectX 9 and 11 problem, but i got no idea what to do (i also tried "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer")

Hi-I'm having problems with the sound levels on my laptop. Although I have it set at 100%, in order to hear the sound in a movie, I have to hold it in my lap with the speakers facing up towards me-not good if someone else also wants to watch. I've tried everything that I've found online to fix this problem. A lot of the suggestions say to go to the enhancements tab under speakes, but I don't have an enhancement tab on that page. All I have is General, Levels, Advanced, and Spatial Sound. Does this model not have the enhancemet tab? If not, is there a way to increase the sound level (something not too difficult-I'm not a computer expert). The sound used to be fine, but in the last couple of months, something changed (maybe an automated update or another update?) I use the computer for my job writing and for browsing and watching movies and tv - nothing that would require me to make any changes. Anyway, is anyone has an answer to this problem, thanks in advance.

Does this have anything to do with a Windows 10 update?

Hello!Basically I bought myself a Dell computer last week, but it has been a very painful experience so far. I am on the verge of bringing it back to the store. I am no computer wizard, but I know a little bit, I have been installing and executing the basic repairs (both hard and soft) for pc's for several years. But now I have ran into a brick wall. To start off with, the computer I bought is Insprion 3558, it runs Nvidia GeForce 920m, i5-5200u (broadwell) processor, and currently has 4GB of ram attached to it. It came with a OEM os - ubuntu 14.07 (if i remember correctly). When I started the pc for the first time, it seemed a bit sluggish, but last time I had used Ubuntu was about 7 years ago, thus sluggishness didn't strike me as a red flag at that moment.I had a Windows 7 serial key, so I installed the W7 on it. At first, it was all right, I installed all the drivers that needed to be installed, i got them from here (https://devid.drp.su). Some of the drivers I managed to snatch from the Dell webpage, but not all of them worked (also the automatic updater didn't work as smoothly as it was supposed to).
However, the pc was still super sluggish. The webpages took a moment to load and scrolling them was quite disturbing. After digging around the internet, I found out that there is such a function as speed step enabled by the OEM. After I disabled it, the things went well for a while. Until I noticed that even when the pc is idle (no internet browser, av-software,... Read more

I got a DELL Inspiron 7559 in July 2017. The rear left corner is already pulling a part at the seam. It doesn't seem to be the hinge, but it does pull further a part when opening and closing the screen.
I called DELL support. Even though the computer is only 5 months old, this problem isn't covered under warranty.
Online, it looks like several other 7559 buyers have experienced the exact same problem. It seems unethical of DELL to have a recurring manufacturing problem and refuse to repair it.
Any suggestions on options to get the split repaired without spending $140?

I've had my Pavilion g6 for at least two and a half years, and I've been satisfied with it, except for a pretty big issue that has been messing with the functionality. The left hinge completely broke a year or two ago and I've been dealing with it for over a year by pinching both sides of the base of the laptop where the hinge is located, and it was an annoyance, but a minor one. I figured it was just my computer and so I didn't think I could do anything about it, but today my other hinge broke, so I did some research and apparently this is a big problem for some HP computers. Is HP doing anything to fix this problem?

Hello all.  Can I open a thread and discussion to see how many peoples Acer has broken lid hinges within the first 3 years? Please also let me know which model this happened to, this would be useful to see if there is an inherent design or process fault. Thanks

A:Broken laptop lid hinges

Hi there, I am having an issue with my laptop near the hinge.I have an Acer Travelmate P253-MG, the laptop was bought in July 2013. Around the December 2014/Jan 2015 (if I remember correctly) whenever I opened or closed the lid, it would jolt into place with a loud crack. Although concerning it was not causing any issues with the laptop. However screws started to fall out, I always kept them and put them back in though, but they made little difference. Eventually in the back left corner, between the hinge and the charger area, the laptop has begun to pull away from itself. It is so bad now that I am having trouble using the power button as the gap is so wide. I have NEVER dropped the laptop or handled it roughly. It is only ensured for inside a house so I have taken exceptional care of it. What can be done about this? I am not keen to pay to get it fixed as I am very tight on cash being a recent graduate.Does Acer have any solutions to this, as I have found many threads from people with similar issues.

I have a Compaq Presario M2000. The hinges broke. I did some research and came up with a part number (394305-001). It doesn't fit. The mounting brackets are too short. I contacted HP tech support and all they could tell me was that according to their documentation I had the right part number. Does anybody know where I can find imformation on the dimensions of this part? At this point I don't know if I have the wrong part number or if the part I received was just labeled wrong.

Within the past month or two,  I started noticing an issue with the right hinge when trying to close the laptop.   About two weeks ago, the same issue started with the left hinge also.   It has now become a challenge trying to close the laptop.  It soulds like plastic is cracking/popping, and gets into a bind.   This is my home laptop, and has been very well cared for.  It has never been dropped or abused.   Any suggestions?
