Q: address list stolen

Someone has stolen my identity and is sending emails from me to my contacts. Any suggestions to stop this thief?

Preferred Solution: address list stolen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Is it true that people can steal your IP address and use it for their internet connection without you knowing?

I have heard that from my IP address that forums have been registered with in my name and that the language is terrible and threatening.

Can this be possible? Or is it a coincedance that the IP address is the same?

What a strange one this is

When I do a search through the IE6 address bar, the default search now goes to Orbitz Explorer - a completely useless ad-based search engine. How can I get this off my computer? I tried to change my internet search preferences, but it does nothing. I noticed that under [System information\ System Summary\ Internet settings\ Internet Explorer\ Cache\ List of Objects] there is this line:

Loader Class.......Installed........http://www.orbitexplorer.com/OELoader.cab

I have no idea where I got this. I have never used Orbitz or been to their site. There were also several other nice little things that came with this such as a change of my start page to Orbitz Explorer and tons of ad ware. Those were no problem, but I have no idea how to fix the search feature. I've been using Spybot on these things. Is there something better?

Also, is there anywhere I can report this or at least strike a blow against these criminals ( in my eyes, they came into my home and changed the settings on my computer, stealing something I use on a regular basis)?

A:my hp laptop was stolen how do i obtain the mac address

Chino_Yu_Zeet Sorry, but you're operating under a misconception. A PC does not have a Mac Address. This address is a unique code assigned to a piece of networking equipment, not to a PC. So, if your PC had built-in wired networking, that would be one Mac address. If it also had built-in Wifi, that would be a second Mac address. These addresses are provided in bulk form to the manufacturers of networking equipment. In addition, HP keeps no records of individual Mac addresses for individual PCs, so there's no way they could provide you that information. And finally, Mac addresses can be "spoofed", meaning, if I had a piece of equipment from someone else, and I knew they had a way of tracking that address, it's a simple matter to "fake" the address on this piece of equipment so it no longer matches the original Mac address. Sorry, but at this point (1) there's no way to obtain that information, and (2) even if you had it, it would do you no good. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Problem. HELP.

A friend I've known for many years sent an email the other day. Without thinking I opened it as I often have.
Well, no surprise I guess. It wasn't from her at all but one of those Viagra ads. I closed it and wrote to her informing her I thought her email address has been hacked. Or stolen. Or whatever the term is.
Now of course, I am getting mail that says it's from her but I know it isn't by the subject line.

Even with the first one I opened, the subject line had a name I didn't know but since it was from her (I thought), I opened the damn thing.

I have run scans on my pc and nothing has been found but of course, I still have no way of knowing if my book has been compromised. Do I? Unless I hear from ppl. Meanwhile .... what do I advise her? And what steps need to be taken by me if any? Once I report it as spam, I am liable to block all legitimate mail from her. I think.

Oh Boy.

My IP address was stolen. Someone sent me a file that I was expecting. It had a very misconcieving title. I opened it and it wouldn't work, but I let it slide. A week or two later I found pictures of myself on a forum from a hacker. The file I had opened had been a virus that hacked into my webcam. This creep told me that this had spread to 1000+ people and they all had my IP address. I am so scared! If everyone has my IP address anything could happen. How do I change my IP address without it messing up other settings in my computer and how do I remove this virus from my computer? I removed the misconcieving file, but is the virus still there? I want to be able to use my webcam without being spied on. It's wrong.

A:IP address stolen and spread, virus hacked into webcam and being spied on 0.0

Hi and Welcome,
To deal with the virus you can get here by following this guide:

Please be patient as there are loads of requests for help and not that many qualified experts.

In the meantime, make sure you're running your firewall and anti-virus progs and that they are up to date. I don't think anyone can do much merely knowing an IP address. For instance when I use "What's my IP?" I get the right IP but the location is 50 miles from where I live.

Hope this helps?

Ralph117 I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... Sorry, but this is only a community forum staffed by volunteers and we can do nothing to track or recover missing property. What I recommend is the following:1) Contact HP Customer Support, tell them about the stolen laptop, and get a case numberIf you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!2) Contact the local law enforcement authorities about the theft -- provide them all the information they need and show them proof of ownership. You will most likely need to this to have then return the laptop to you if they find it3) When the laptop is returned, contact Absolute Software to see about getting Lojack for Laptops for it. That enables you to report a stolen laptop and then locate it, once it is then connected to the Internet.Good Luck

I posted this back in January and don't think I saw an answer.
I just tried it again and when I added the names to a new "group" in last name order and when I looked at them after I accepted the group list they were in first name order and I don't see how to reorder them.
Mail items sent to this group, of course, are sent out by first name, which confuses people. I guess I could send blind copies and no one would see anything but this particular list, the people like to have the other email address.
Thanks much!

To remove the old address list from the Address Book view, follow these steps: 1. On the Tools menu, click Services.
2. On the Services tab, click Outlook Address Book and then Properties.
3. Select the invalid address book from the list under Outlook Address Books and then click Remove Address Book.
4. Click Close and then OK. On the File menu click Exit and Log Off.
When you restart Outlook the list of address books will update and the invalid address list will no longer display."

Well, those *******s at Microsoft have done it again. The Address List in Microsoft Outlook Express that docks at the lower left side of the OE window is gone missing on me and I have no idea how to restore it and I have wasted over an hour screwing with it to no avail.

A normally intelligent person would believe that restoring the Address List should be a one click operation but obviously that is too hard for those ***-wipes at Microsoft to accomplish so they made it a hide & seek Address List.

It is times like this that make me think seriously about taking a baseball bat to my Windows computer and then buying an Apple Computer. At least then I would know I have something that works the way it is supposed to.

If anyone can please give me a set of directions (and please keep it to under 50 pages; but that may not be possible the way the morons at Microsoft write their code) on how I can restore my Address List I would really, REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks and Happy Holidays to all.

I created an outlook.com e-mail account. I exported my address book from Windows live as a .csv file. I imported it from Outlook.com. Everything went OK and said successful. My problem is I can't find it. When I create an e-mail message and click on To, the only address there is mine. When I click on People from the drop down link, the address are there, but you can't do anything with them. Any thoughts?

A:Outlook.com address list

If you go to the People page on Outlook.com, and click on a contact, does it show the email address?

I also had problems getting a csv file to work from Outlook 2003 into Outlook.com.

What I found was that certain phone number fields didn't get imported into outlook.com, even though when I tried an export from outlook.com, those very same fields were there in its own export csv format. The records imported and their names were there, but useful information like phone numbers wasn't (with no error mentioning it).

I think what I did in the end was manually type a test contact into outlook.com, with email/ phone number etc. filled in, and work out how it exported from outlook.com, and moved the data around in my import csv into different columns to match.

I have a friend who has created a mailing list using a feature of WordPro. It created a file with an extension of lwp. She uses it to do mail merges. Does anyone know a way to import such a file into Lotus 1-2-3, or Approach (or any other spreadsheet or database)?

A:WordPro Address List

I think I may be one of the few people who has actually used Word Pro, but unfortunately I don't remember using that feature.

If I'm not mistaken, LWP is just the normal file format for Word Pro. If so, you can at least get the information in a basic form by just saving the file in a format that other programs understand (like Word or even just plain text).

If there's a way in Word Pro to save the mailing list in a more meaningful universal format, you could try that. It's possible it will allow you to save the data in CSV format (comma separated values - sometimes tabs are used as well), which would at least keep the pieces of data separate and might allow you to import it more easily.

It's not a knock against this forum, but what I might actually recommend is repeating the question on the Lotus SmartSuite forums.

(Filtered for only Word Pro messages: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ssforum...penView&ExpandView&RestricttoCategory=WordPro )

The truth is, not too many people are using Word Pro these days, although it's got some advantages over Word, namely its page layout is a lot more sophisticated.

You might be able to find a PIM (personal information manager) program that will import the data for you. Then you could export it elsewhere. I can't tell you one off the top of my head (or even if one exists), but it's possible. Maybe Word Pro was/is popular in some foreign country, for ins... Read more

Apparently I don't know what I am doing.

I have a user who's username ended up being very close to that of the head of our HR department. Because of this, people aren't paying attention and are sending sensitive HR information to this user. We decided the best way to fix this was to rename the user. So, in AD, I changed:

The users name as is listed in AD Users and Groups
The Display Name (under General Tab)
The logon name (under account tab)
Alias (under Exchange General)
and everything under Email Addresses

It is not that this didn't work. The user can now log on as their new user account. The email transferred over fine and if I email the new email account it goes right through. Also, the old user account can no longer log in. However, the one problem that I am having is that the old email account still works and the users old name still shows up in the GAL. I have no idea how to fix these two problems. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sign in to the Windows Live Hotmail website with your Windows Live ID (The user name and password that you use to sign in to any Windows Live, MSN, or Office Live sites and services. If you have a Passport Network, Hotmail, or Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) .
In the upper-right corner of the page, click Options, and then click More options.
Under Customize your contacts, click Import contacts.
Do one of the following: Use Windows Live Contacts Importer
Click Download and run Contacts Importer.
When prompted to run or save the file, click Run.

My problems always seems so stupid after I read other questions that are being asked...but I have always heard the expression "the only stupid question...is the one that isn't asked"..So I am gonna go for it..
I want to print out a list of my address book..but no matter which one I choose...(memo, business card, or phone list) it prints out like 14 pages (using 2 or 4 spaces between the persons name..and their e/mail addy..then more spacing between the 1st name and the next name and so on and so on...all I want is a printed list of my address book as I see it with their name and addy to the side and the next one right below with their name and addy out to the side ...etc...etc...

But it will not print me a list like that. What am I doing wrong?..and can it be done...(what I am wanting to do).

I had gone to a couple of gaming sites researching on some games and out of nowhere, it had popped up adult sites all over the place. I did all my spyware software and cleared out all the adult crap, but all of a sudden, they are showing up on my address dropdown list! Even after running the software, I thought that would clear them off the list.

Is there anyway besides clearing out all of the history that I can get rid of the one or 2 individual adult web addresses? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Everytime I put something in my address to look something up, this url keeps coming up. It is a sexual picture and I can't get rid of it. Even if I clear my whole list it keeps coming up. I have a 14 year old son that I would prefer not to see this kind of thing. Is this a virus or just something that came with a download and now we are stuck with it. Please help! Thanks!

Hi Teller3, a lot of people seem to having this kind of problem lately. Have you run an updated antivirus scan?

You can do an online one here:

It would also be useful to see what you have running at startup. There are some websites out there that can cause the Windows Search and Homepage entries in the registry to be modified every bootup. There files may show up in the Startuplog.

You can download, unzip and run the Startuplog.com file from the site below. It will place a file, Startuplog.txt, on your desktop. Just copy and paste the entire contents of that (not stubbpaths.txt) to your next reply.

I use Outlook 2007 for my email needs. I have email addresses in my Contact list and I have email addresses in what I call the Address Book. The Address Book is what I can use when I'm sending an email and I click on the TO: button to find an address. It seems that theses are two completely different lists of email addresses. Am I correct? if so, is there a way to synch to a "common" list?

Thank you!

Several days ago a number of returned/undelivered emails showed up in my inbox. Checking my "Sent" folder I found that the emails had been sent, but I did not send them.

Upon checking the internet, I found information that identified the problem, but there was no clear solution specified. I would appreciate help in resolving this issue.

Is there any way I can set up a global address list similar to what Exchange offers but without using an Exchange server?
Specifically I'm looking for one global address list(only email addresses), with the option of every user creating one private (preferably password protected) folder for his/her own private contacts. This should all reside on the server.

I'm using win98 and Outlook 2000 in a small business environment with Novell and normal windows networking. Upgrading to exchange is not an option.

Any help or ideas are welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Daneel Smuts
