"Secure Connection Failed"

Q: "Secure Connection Failed"

My friend is having some problems with opening her yahoo mail box, so I suggested she check,
add-ons, to see if there is a possible browser problem.

When doing so and going to the add-ons page, from tools in Fire Fox, she gets a message, . . "Secure Connection Failed"

Her FireFox Is version 3.6.21

You can tell Firefox to bypass these certificate warnings. You should only bypass the warning if you're sure that the site is legitimate. Legitimate public sites will not ask you to do this. An invalid certificate can be an indication of a web page that will defraud you or steal your identity.

1. On the warning page, click Or you can add an exception....
2. Click Add Exception.... The Add Security Exception dialog will appear.
3. Click Get Certificate.
4. Read the text describing the problems with this site.
5. Click Confirm Security Exception if you want to trust the site.
Should I advise her to do this ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is happening across multiple browsers on multiple computers regardless of the website.  I can log into Facebook, but not get to any of the content.  I can get to my bank's page, but not log into the site.  Sometimes I can "send error report", other times I cannot.

I have done troubleshooting such as clearing the cache (everything, including saved passwords) and rebooting the systems.  It happens in Explorer, Firefox, Dragon, Chrome.  If one computer won't connect, the others won't connect.  If one browser won't load the site, the others won't load the site.

I'm tempted to restore my one laptop to see if that solves the problem.  If it does, it is not a viable solution as the disc for my pc was lost in the move between states.

Any help?

Thanks.

A couple of days ago, my laptop (Vista) started showing "secure connection failed" messages for the login pages to websites like banks, Yahoo, Facebook etc. Might someone have any insight into this problem and how serious it might be? Hopefully this image of a screen shot will appear it's my first time trying. If it appears, Scarlett gets the credit for the great instructions she posted for posting images.TIA

Hello all.

I have a VPN question?

What does the error msg. "Failed to establish a secure connection" implies or means?

The above message is being received after entering username and password for authenication when attempting to connect via VPN.

I'm using Nortel Networks VPN Client.

I had used Cisco VPN as well, and have received the same above message.

Seeking an explanation and/or answer.

Jboman.

A:VPN - Failed to establish a secure connection

It means that something went wrong. It is a very generic error message and pretty useless. You should try to get some more detailed log information from your client or the server.

I hope someone can help me. For the last few days, when I first put on the computer and using my RoboForm password software to login to my Google mail I get a 'Secure Connection Failed' notice appear. I keep closing out of it and it keeps reappearing. After about 12 goes it disappears. Then using my RoboForm I login to eBay and have exactly the same notice, keep closing out of it and reappearing until after only 3 or 4 attempts it finally disappears. Usually any site I visit after the first 2 sites is alright and I don't get this notice.

The notice says: Secure Connection Failed www.trustplus.com:443 uses an invalid security certificate.(error code: sec error expired certificate)
This could be a problem with the server's configuration or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server. If you have connected to this server successfully in the past the error may be temporary and you may try again later.

Generally the sites in question are Gmail and eBay.

My tech guy said he thought it was a RoboForm issue. RoboForm have told me it isn't. I am using XP and Firefox browser. Has anyone got an idea what this is and how I can get rid of it.
Thanks.

I have noticed after the recent update to Firefox Version 37.0.1 I am getting this message when trying to log into some sites.
Secure Connection Failed
The connection to web4.secureinternetbank.com was interrupted while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
I also tried restarting the computer. I cleared all history, cookies, and cache as well, there was no change, still having the problem. I tried going through IE and everything worked fine, so the problem seems to be with FF only. I tried on a different laptop in the house using FF, same issue. My fiance logged into the website from his work computer at work with no issues. I did it in safe mode with addons disabled, no change. I also just noticed when trying to go to the bank website, next to the web address I have the Triangle icon with the ! in the center. I clicked on it and can screen shot what it says if you need to see that.
What do I need to do to correct this issue. I have not had any problems in the past, it just seems to be an issue since the current update. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

The issue seems to be primary with Google. I have tried Chrome, Mozilla & Internet Explorer - all new and updated. Chrome & IE are 100% factory, no addons at all. Google is either not loading or only partially loading. Meaning only some of the graphics load. Gplus just goes wacky :P

These errors are primarily associated with Google. It seems to be "security" related? I have some things in my event viewer I do not understand under security. Though nothing looks horrible. For the last 2-4 days google & its services (Youtube, G+ and others) have been acting funky. I did general maleware scans - Several (nothing bad all removed). Is it a virus/hack? Did I do something wrong? Thoughts? On occasion other websites give me issues.

Dear Tech Support Guy Experts:

Hello! Could you please help me? I am not sure whether this is a malware problem or simply an internet browser issue.

About a week or so ago, my Firefox automatically updated to Firefox 57, Quantum. I have Windows 7. I noticed that websites were loading more slowly.

Yesterday, I was surfing as usual and suddenly I got 2 blue screen crashes within a 2 or 3 hour period. I had to restart Windows each time. I ran Spybot as well as CC Cleaner (cleaning up the registry as well). I tried to do a system restore as well. Then I noticed that, although I can gain access to the internet (the firefox home page), I cannot gain access to any other website.

Each time I try to open a page, the new Firefox ball wags back and forth, like it's taunting me, and then finally the message "Secure Connection Failed" / "Problem loading page" comes up.

I tried to go through the troubleshooting steps on the firefox website, checking extentions and plugins. I ckecked my firewall and i do see MozillaFirefox listed.

I am not able to clear history, because for that I need internet connectivity or workable browser, right? I also cannot refresh firefox or download a new version of firefox. How does one install an internet browser when one does not have an internet browser?

Could this be Malware, do you think?

I have had both MalwareBytes (the paid version) running the whole time, as well as the free anti-virus program "Commodo". However... Read more

I was unable to download the latest update to IOS 8.4 through itunes (I did it directly in my phone). I noticed another problem at the same time.  I was unable to download podcasts through the itunes store.  I tried to update to the latest version (12.2.1) but I was unable to.  It looks like it started to connect to the itunes store then stopped.  I ran the itunes diagnostic and got this message "secure link to itunes store failed".  I did some searching and most places suggested going to the compand prompt typing "netsh winsock reset" and then rebooting.  I did but still have the same problem.  I've done it twice, the first time simply restarting and then turning off and waiting a few minutes and turning back on.  Here are some of the details from the itunes diagnostic:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Dell Inc. Inspiron 530
iTunes 12.1.2.27
QuickTime 7.7.6
FairPlay 2.7.50
Apple Application Support 3.1.3

Gracenote MusicID 3.06.1.3084
Gracenote Submit 3.06.1.3084
Gracenote DSP 3.06.1.3084

Another suggestion was to check to make sure that itunes is enabled on the security firewall (it is).  Someone else suggested deleting itunes completely and reinstalling.  I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.  ... Read more

Did you accidentally switch from UEFI to Legacy boot mode (or vice versa) while fiddling with Secure Boot.  Some operating systems can install in either Legacy or UEFI mode, but after they're installed, they can only be booted if the system is set up in the mode they're expecting.

Hello,  I am trying to flash the latest Yoga 260 20FE 1.67 Bios over my existing 1.61 version. Both Manual download and using flash update utility and Lenovo Thinkvantage update download and flash fail with error: Secure Flash Authentication Failed From there on, I have to use a pin to restart the laptop. Note that Apart from standard bios settings that were applied by 1.61 bios, I have also tried to flash with the following setup as well: OS Optimized defaults: DisabledSecure Rollback Prevention: DisabledSecure Boot: DisabledUEFI/Legacy Boot: BothUEFI/Legacy Boot Priority: Legacy First Same result. Note with the current Bios I have mainly two issues:1. OS does not boot sometimes when attaching external monitor (confirmed fixed in 1.67 that I am trying to flash)2. Windows 10 will not totally shutdown. Instead laptop will enter sleep mode (blinking power button) Any ideas?

Hello, I was wondering if any of you might be able to help me.  Today I opened my laptop and saw a message that read:  Secure Boot   Image failed to verify with *ACCESS DENIED*  Press any key to continue.

I can enter BIOS w/F1 when I press the power key, but that seems to be the only place I can go, and most of the options are grayed out.  I pressed F11 on startup in an attempt to restore the system, but all I'm able to get is a stationary white cursor line in the upper left corner of a blank screen.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

(Background:  My computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I was running Windows 8 until the free Windows 10 upgrade came out a few months ago.  I haven't installed anything in a while except Windows and Lenovo updates.  I've had a bit of a heating issue, so eight days ago I replaced the thermal paste.  The machine's been running much cooler, but I've been experiencing random hibernations--usually once every 3 hrs. or so, but occasionally two in 15 min.  A few of those times, I had a message that said something about my battery not being detected, and this happened both when the computer was plugged in and when it wasn't.  It still charged like normal.)

A:Help! Secure Boot Image failed to verify with *ACCESS DENIED*

Have you tried disabling SecureBoot in your UEFI/BIOS? You are currently running Windows 10? I would disable fast startup as shown here if you get the computer to boot by disabling it. This will at least let you recover your files with a linux disk in case the computer fails to boot.

I am not sure why you are getting random hibernations. You can change your power profile it disable hibernation.

The BIOS 1.24 update is meant exactly for my machine: ThinkPad S5 Yoga 15(Machine types: 20DQ, 20DR) But it doesn't stick.I've tried the tips about disabling security features in UEFI BIOS to make it stick, but they didn't work either. How can I install this update?

Hi Everyone, Sorry if this question has been hashed out before, I've had a pretty thorough look through the posts on here and haven't been able to find much meaninful information. I have recently bought this X1 Carbon second hand (20BT) and ammongst other stuggles have been trying to get the fingerprint reader to work with win10. I have read in other posts that a large contributor to this can be an out of date bios. The BIOS version I am currently running is 1.06 (N14ET28W) dated March 2015. When trying to update the bios using the newest executable provided on the lenovo support site I receive a "Secure Flash Authentication Failed!" message then the laptop shuts down. I have tried doing more incremental updates using older versions which do give me some different results, the embedded controller version will update but I still receive the same error message re: secure flash authentication. So I ask, is there some kind of BIOS setting I have to change other than "allow end user acces to modify bios" to allow the secure flash authentication to proceed? Also how does on update the BIOS using the bootable disk option considering this laptop has no disk drive, I have tried using a USB with no success mounting the .iso so far. Any assistance you could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy

Does anyone know of a tutorial on how to set up and use a secure connection? I want to have a log on with username's and passwords, but I want to make sure it's secure and can not be breached. The server will be running a database with the info and can support ASP.

A:ASP secure connection

There is a techniqu called hashing where the usernames and passwords are not kept in the database as plain text. It is more like an encryption and there is a key that is used to hash what is in the DB. Any pages that have sensitive data should also use SSL so any traffic that might be intercepted between the user and the server will also be encrypted. Here is a sample of "hashing"

Okay, so this is going to sound weird, I'm very concerned with security. As in, I have locked one of my laptops up in a safe with a charger. This laptop has never connected to the internet and I'm not willing to connect it.Being me, I've also installed a certain usb token program that requires my usb to log in to windows which I threw away the day I made it. (By the way, it's running windows 7). I need to connect to this laptop using my Asus T100TA laptop which is running windows 8.1, and for those of you networking junkies I'll bet you already know you can't use an ad hoc network with win8.1 without doing some work in cmd.  I'm not willing to install 3rd party hardware OR software onto my quarantined laptop however I still need to control it...

I've tried searching Google, Bing, Yahoo, Dogpile, and DuckDuckGo and can't find a thing. To give you some idea as to where I'm at...

Telnet does not work because I've disabled it,
3rd party software is a no no,
Sharing any files or folders on my quarantined laptop is also a no no,
I am not willing to access this laptop physically, it'd be a waste of time without the usb key anyway since I have a safeboot program on there as well,
rdp and mstsc are negated by the usb requirement,
the computer will never be allowed to touch the internet.

I know, I'm crazy lol I just have a lot of private records on that pc and I need to access them with read/write permissions.
So please, if you know what to do, let me kn... Read more

I have a Linksys wireless router with a wireless connection to my laptop. My house is not that big at all, but from the front of the house to the back room, my connection says low and actually is slower than it really should be. Especially considering that people could steal my connection without even being in my house.
How can I boost this connection and how can I make it more secure?

I have noticed lately, that the secure sites I access (i.e. my bank acct., bill payments, etc.), I am not getting a prompt anymore that lets me know I have just entered into a secure network connection. It used to pop and I'd have to hit "OK" to enter, then it'd let me know when I was leaving the secure network connection as well, and I'd have to hit "OK" there too when exiting the site!!

Here's the thing - a couple of weeks ago, I got infected w/ Spy Sheriff. I removed it according to all the info on this website, and it's gone. But it almost seems like it's been since then, that I my secure network connection prompts haven't been coming up!!!

So, I am kind of scared to think that all of my personal info is just floating around out there some place. Is there anything I can do to make sure I get this back?! Please help

Thanks a lot!

I am a visitor at several companies whom provide me with a wired LAN connection.

Here is what I want to do:

Securely connect without their knowledge, either encrypt or hide my internet traffic. Why?

Simply I perform audits on these companies which may affect future business.
My company IT/admin only suggest using the supplied cellular air cards, which does not work.

I only need access to internet explorer for our company database, which does not run in any other browsers.

Currently email is encrypted
Use trucrpyt to secure files
Superantivirus spyware, pcTOOLS, windows firewall set to no exceptions, all file/network sharing disabled.
IE 8 set to inprivate browsing
Update vista
Im running W7 in virtual box don't know if this helps

Im sure this is done for security between other compaines,

Can anyone help?

Hi there JPSpenca I would imagine that your problem was that SpySherrif may have messed up your settings a bit. I would therefore recommend you follow this simple tutorial found here. This will reset your security settings to their original state and this should hopefully bring back your secure sites pop-up!Let me know how it goes.
