Vivaldi browser from the former CEO of Opera

Q: Vivaldi browser from the former CEO of Opera

Hi folks anyone else trying the new Vivaldi browser?

No extensions yet but I will enquire, it has the familiar Opera style speed dial and I like the way cookies can be deleted, it also lists them separately for you and from here 11 cookies are listed from this site for example, I can delete all or pick which site individually.

Web Of Trust, HTTPS-everywhere would be nice along with a few others, what extensions do you use and why, regardless of which browser you currently favour?

Obviously not wanting to go off topic but there may be some I haven't used and would maybe when I send feedback suggest them also.

I'd sum up after a quick mess with it that it's a bit Spartan at the moment and Firefox is still my preferred browser for speed, stability, looks, extensions available and general ease of use.

Thanks, Ian.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Almost two years ago, the Norwegian browser firm Opera ripped out the guts of its product and adopted the more standard WebKit and Chromium technologies, essentially making it more like rivals Chrome and Safari. But it wasn?t just Opera?s innards that changed; the browser also became more streamlined and perhaps less? geeky.

Many Opera fans were deeply displeased at the loss of what they saw as key differentiating functionality. So now Jon von Tetzchner, the man who founded Opera and who would probably never have allowed those drastic feature changes, is back to serve this hard core with a new browser called Vivaldi.

Vivaldi doesn?t mark a return to Opera?s old internals ? it uses Chromium as a base and has a user interface that is itself unusually built using web technologies ? but it does bring back features such as tab stacking, an advanced bookmark manager, keyboard shortcuts, and the ability to start with multiple session windows.

I think Standalone means, Offline installer?

Standalone software may refer to:
Computer software that can work offline, i.e. does not necessarily require network connection to function
Software that is not a part of some bundled software
A program that is run as a separate computer process, not an add-on of an existing process
Standalone program, a program that does not require operating system's services to run
A portable application, which can be run without the need for installation procedure
Stand-alone expansion pack, expansion packs that do not require the original game

And I would like "Open link in new tab" work as Chrome or an option to set that way. "Open link in background tab" is the 3rd option & as a Chrome user I have the habit of clicking 1st option so gets annoying.

Hello,

I downloaded OPERA on to my Toshiba laptop recently and I am trying to get used to it.

I have no problem with Firefox, Safari, and Camino on my Mac and no problem with AOL and Firefox on my PC - the Opera browser give me some confusion though.

My current dilemma concerns this minor inconvenience. When I open a message or an email that has a link in it, I click on that link, read it and after want to return to my original email/message and can't find the way!

After I read the selected link the "back arrows" are faded out and do not work, there is no "X" to get out of the link and return to the original msg, I tried clicking on other spots with no luck.

How do I get back to the original msg/email without closing out the entire web page and starting over? What magic spot am I missing here. Firefox and Aol work fine on this same Toshiba PC.

Thank you

My operating system is XP Home, Service Pack 2, I have been using Opera for about 6 months and am generally satisfied with it, however, an annoying problem has cropped up, i.e. whenever I enter a URL or do a search from Yahoo (or Google etc) the first Opera window to come up merely displays: "The document has moved here", (the "here" is in blue and is underlined; there are no quotes, of course) I click on the "here" and it then takes me to the site. This happens, without fail, on every attempt. I have had no success in finding a solution with Opera "Help". It wouldn't be out of the question for the problem to caused in some way by my keyboard clumsiness, (it is a standing joke among my collegues ref me being able to hose up ANY computer, just let me at it) IE appears to work normally, no problems there. I am pretty sure that the solution is just a keystroke or 2, but darned if I can figure it out. (My computer expertise is limited to hunt and peck memo typing and net surfing) Many thanks for any and all help.

Internet Explorer came up because IE is the default browser. You can change Opera to your default browser.

In Opera go to Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs.

Tick the checkbox for "Check if Opera is default browser on startup".

Next time you start Opera, answer "Yes" when the dialog asks you if you want Opera to be the default browser on your computer.

Hello Forum,
Because Firefox uses a lot of cpu and lot of memory, I activated "Time Freeze" to 'on' and installed temporarily Opera browser and checked it for some hours. It really uses less cpu and memory then firefox,
I tried to import all bookmarks from firefox, but I have to import each one by one, is there another way ?

But here is a problem I need help soon - while Opera was open, (time freeze still on) on the screen poped up a big notice that I am using a pirated software and it will stop in 7 days. After a while I restarted the pc, Opera was gone (do not know if I install it at all), then I opened the so called 'pirated' program - it really warned me that in 7 days it will stop, or enter the registration code, and so I did, got a "thank you for registering" notice, opened that program's "about", verified that it is registered.
When I came back to the computer, firefox is open, that warning notice came up again ! I opened that program - checked the "about", the registration was there, the program works nice.
I had never such a warning since installation of this program, I am afraid it is somehow connected with the opera browser, but now opera is no more installed.
Is it possible that the warning page is somewhere in the cache of firefox ?
Need some help please !
Thanks for answers
Motim

Several years ago, there was a java bug that could be used to steal passwords from people logging into websites. Opera has a warning so to warn you that java is trying to read it. IE and Netscape never put a warnign in about it. I would say today that this is remote. (more likely way to steal your password would be a bug to read temporary files on your system or them hacking into the email server)

I don't worry about this.

Let me put it this way, the possibility is there, but I would say it was very remote. You have to accept some risks whenever you hook your system up to a public network like the Internet. Middle click with your mouse and this opens another window in a tab in the background. Look at the top for the different tabs instead of the taskbar. You can also right click on link and select "open in background page" or with Ctrl+Shift keys pressed, mouse click link. The best feature is the mouse gestures. This feature is activated by pressing, and holding, your secondary mouse button (right by default, unless your computer is set up for a left-handed person) and moving the mouse pointer in a particular direction or pattern.

Nic said,

You should try using Opera as its miles better than IE. Once you've tried it you won't go back :=).Click to expand...

I took Nic's advice and downloaded Opera again, and have been usinig it exclusively for about three weeks now. As time goes by, it has started to either crash to the desktop or freeze, and I have to use Task Manager to get out of it. This seems to be getting more frequent, maybe three or four times a day now. I've been using it and it's so much faster than IE and the mouse guestures will be hard to give up, if I go back to IE.

I'm wondering if some of the Opera files have been somehow corrupted and if it would do any good to uninstall and reinstall, or maybe there's some other problem.

Also, is it normal to go to some sites and some, not all, links on a site do not work. I can go to the same site with IE and everything's fine. Everything at this site works great.

A:Using Opera Browser.

The latter first...

Yes, it can happen... The problem is that not all the sites are using proper html/whichever html based language, but rather using "special" MS code... Thus it won't allways work like it should...
I had a problem with ATI's hp a while ago, but that's been fixed...

If you find a site which has the problem, why not send them an email telling them about the problem, or send one to Opera... Most likely the page will be updated, and/or support added to the next version...

Over to your first problem... Which version of Opera are you using? And are there any special sites/ad's that triggers it?

I've had a similar problem with some sites when not using IE (had the problem with both Opera and Netscape)... An email to the site fixed it...

But a re-install can't hurt...

Just remember to make a little backup of your bookmarks, and windows settings (and any other changes you've made to Opera) so you can get it back without any trouble...

Hello!

Any Opera users here? I need someone to tell me why to download Opera. It looks really interesting, and sneeky. So why is Opera better than all the other browsers?

FredeGail

A:[Opera] Browser!

Well, i use Opera all the time
i find it to be more of an OS than a browser, or at least a huge bundle of software rather than just a browser.
It can do downloading better than any other browser (especially chrome), it has a built in (outlook style) email client, it has a (admittedly lame, but exists) IRC client, a built in torrent client for all your nice legal torrents and considering it has all this, it is incredibly slick. Sure, it looks a bit bulky, but it makes Chrome look like a piece of paper with scribbles compared to Opera being an encyclopedia
In short, I find it to be extremely powerful, and fast even when just on my decrepit laptop.

I downloaded the browser Opera and like its features, but have several problems (I'm using Windows 98):

1) when I installed it, it stopped at about 3% and said that the installation file is corrupt. However, most of it seems to be installed and working, except some files in "Help", which cannot be opened. Nor can I get or send out email.

2) I brought in (manually) all my Netscape bookmarks. I was trying to copy them into WORD (as a backup); to that purpose I exported them - they are now in a .adr file, and I (probably foolishly) gave them the destination "Microsoft". But I can't open the file. The message is "Windows cannot find local", and "this program is needed for opening files of type 'ADR File'. I have to write in the "location of local", but whatever location I type in, it adds a "\local" to it.

For the last two hours I have been trying to set Opera as web browser in default app under Default Apps in Settings. The only web browser is working with Microsoft Edge not other web browser. I am not sure how can I make Opera as default and rather use this not Microsoft Edge. Any idea how to get this browser work as default?

Thank you,

John

A:Trying to set Opera as web browser in default app

I fixed it by this method: Start -> Settings -> System -> Default Apps -> Set Defaults by App, click on Opera, then click "Set this program as default".

After that Windows 10 remembered my setting and used Opera as the default browser.

That's the trick to fix.

John
