Preferred Solution: SD Card semaphore Timeout?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I did a search and found nothing definitive regarding this particular error in my application.

I have a Dell laptop with an i7 processor, an SSD drive and 8g of ram, running Win7 Pro 64 bit.

I put a 128G micro sd card into the sd card adapter and slapped into the slot. When I try to move files to the card, I get the error.

I formatted the card just for grins. It won't format NTFS, but it did format exFat @ default allocation unit size.

The only file that didn't copy was one that's 21 megs in size. Everything else was smaller and copied over fine.

Donno what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sarge

Hi, I use Windows XP Pro and I am getting this error message in the system event log everytime I log in. Now I only get one, but just recently there are like 3 or 4 in a row many times during the initial log in to the internet network.

I have tried to search everywhere and google and yahoo for an answer but never was able to get a clear solution.

Luckily, I am able to get online just fine but the idea of this showing up constantly bothers me. It was fine, for about 4 months it stopped showing up after I did no changes to my system but its now back.

Also for a while I was getting something about user cancelled something but I have not seen that in a long time.

I tried to unplug the modem and cables to reset the IP , but that doesnt help. Also not that my service uses a Dynamic IP and I cant switch to static IP.

Good Morning All,

I am having issues installing Windows updates, they have been failing upon install for the past 3-4 months.  I get the error code 80070079, "The Semaphore timeout has expired".  So I tried backing up my data to just wipe it and reload the OS, the backup fails as well, same error message.  Then I tried moving files manually to an external drive and that as well timeouts on the larger files.  I have searched the Internet and it many people seem to have this issue and it relates to the network adapter, but I am not trying to do anything over the network (Updates are already downloaded just waiting to install), so I feel it is something else.  Does anyone know of a fix or possible solution?  I searched semaphore through the registry and there are a lot of entries, but not sure if i need to change any of them or not?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Machine is a Dell Optiplex 780, Windows 7 32-Bit, 4GB Ram, 800GB HDD, Broadcomm Network Adapter.

Thanks,

When deleting a file from a local drive, that I have permissions to the local folder on, I'm getting the Semaphore timeout period has expired error.

I've tried to make it as simple as possible for the system, after doing a clean boot, and it still failing, I'm currently in safe mode, without networking, and am still seeing the error.  Anybody have a suggestion or work around?  Files in other
folders are not having this issue.

Then the window locks up for a few min then he gets a pop up message saying:

hello again...

dang this thing is a pain!!

new issue today, trying to save a tiny .rtf file to external USB drive, and get "semaphore timeout period has expired" message and have to save to local drive instead. also get the message if i drag and drop into the desired location.

perhaps related to the issue i occasionally have: the machine loses connection to the external drive and either the folder shows empty (it's not!) or doesn't show as even being connected. little blue light on the drive will sometimes go out, sometimes not, but still no access...

EDIT: i have two verbatim USB drive attached... one or the other of them will occasional disappear from This PC and when i look at device manager there is an error on that drive. i disconnect and reconnect and the drives show up and the error in device manger goes away... there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this happens. when it does and i try to save something to the drive, that's when i get the "semaphore timeout period has expired"

i have tried to update drivers using windows search online and it always says i have the best drivers loaded....

the drives have been checked for errors and windows reports none... there is still quite a bit of available space on them (80+ gigs on each) and when they are connected and live, i can access files with no problem... it just decides to seemingly drop the drive randomly...

thanks for any help...

I maintain some software that makes a tcp socket connection to a different piece of software and sends data back and forth (pretty basic stuff there). We use boost asio to handle reading and writing of data over the socket connection. We have a client that
has deployed this software on Windows7. The client has been having issues with our software not being able to maintain a reliable socket connection. One thing I have noticed is that quite often the networking callback are receiving the error: The semaphore
timeout period has expired.

This error is not coming from anywhere in our code (or the boost code). I've done some research on it and I found a Microsoft Knowledge base article on this error for Windows XP (support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/325487). I've seen a few people ask questions about
this error on Windows7, but they're all in regards to moving files to different drives, nothing regarding network connections.

What does this error mean in regards to Windows7? Does the knowledge base article I mentioned still apply to Windows7?

A:Error 0x80070079: The semaphore timeout period has expired

Hello Ady,

Thanks for your post!

This issue may be a little complex and require some steps to troubleshoot:

1.    Update the driver of wireless network adapters in both of your computers.
2.    Temporarily disable all the firewalls and anti-virus applications, then check the issue again.
3.    To exclude the factors from other services and applications, do a clean boot to check the issue and perform Step 4.(KB929135) How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;929135
4.    With clean boot, try to apply the hotfixes contained in the following KB articles:(KB932045) Error message when you use a network connection to copy a large file from one Windows Vista-based computer to another Windows Vista-based computer: "The connection has been lost"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932045(KB932063) Several problems occur on a Windows Vista-based computer when you work in a wireless network environment
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932063
If problem still persists after steps above, this issue is very possibly due to network devices or configurations, please let me know:

1.    Whether this problem occurs in wired network?
2.    If strengthening the network signals, the problem can be changed?
3.    What size of files will lead to this error.
4.    Does this error terminate the copy process?

Greetings,

My environment is: Win'7, Visual Studio 2010, C#

There is another message on these forums with almost exactly the same title. It's closed, so I couldn't post there.

I'm getting that exact same response from Win'7 in a try /catch scheme.

i.e., "...The semaphore timeout period has expired..."

I am quite confident that the serial port is really there, as he will open and will transfer data from time to time.

It's the whims of the hardware that have me so confused.

The exact same code worked perfectly last night. In fact, it has worked for weeks.

The statement which I believe is causing the error is...
TheUsersChosenSerialPort.Open();

Much like the other thread mentioned, the port is a BlueTooth connector, and Win'7 is reporting him okay, and so on.

I welcome responses from those with useful knowledge on this topic.

How do I fix that?

A:Vista: "The Semaphore Timeout Period Has Expired"

Is this a Linksys Router?

Wired or WIFI?

Are you using an Internet Security Suite or ZoneAlarm?
This may also be thr problem....
This can happen when the total path length of the source file
and the total path length of the destination file are greater than a given
value, 128 I believe. When this occures in windows, it results in a Path
Too Deep error.

I get the error message:

There is only one user on each PC, ME.

I have opened command prompt and ran ipconfig and then ran 'ping'. Both PC's can ping each other with no problems but I can still not access files on each PC. I HAVE shared folders on both and they should be seen.

Somewhere between you and 216.109.112.135 about 1 packet in 6 is being lost or delayed beyond ping's threshold. Maybe the destination site is busy, maybe your ISP is busy, maybe general network congestion. Not desirable, but not so weired either.

Alternatively, is there a way for Windows XP to force-read the media (DVD) without having to eject/re-insert?

I think it has something to do with how long the DVD drive tries to access the DVD before giving up.

Hi everyone,

I have done some research and found it has nothing to do with the two servers that host my files and that it has something to do with the page not loading fast enough and thus timing out, giving me the error. Is there any way to make it so that it won't time out? Maybe change a setting or something?

Thanks,

I'm using WinXP Pro pre SP1 and IE lastest version. For the past few months I seem to fail on my first attempt at going to a web page. Most of the time pressing the refresh button gets the page to display. Therefore I'm thinking that IE is giving up too quickly before the DNS server returns the IP address to get to the page. Am I misunderstanding this? Is there something I can do? It's especially annoying when I fill out forms of multiple pages and one of pages fails to display, so I have to start all over again. Help would be much appreciated. TIA.

I hope there's someone knowledgable in this because I tried google but cannot find any possible solution to this.

Thanks in advance.

Earlier today I was playing my game fine but a couple of hours ago when I tried to login, it failed, stating it could not connect to any login servers and the error could be caused by routing issues.

I ran a traceroute to google and saw the second hop (To the ISP) took over 3.5 seconds while every other hop took under 30ms now when I run a traceroute, it's actually timing out on the hop to the ISP. I also tried running a traceroute directly from my router and it only took 78ms.

Also a strange thing I noticed, when I went to speedtest.net, it showed the nearest servers were in Massachusetts, while the closest servers should've been in New Jersey and New York City by quite a bit, yet my speeds are still normal.

Here's the traceroute logs:

A:Tracerout Timeout to ISP

Hello,

The problem is usually in router, just remove from power outlet, wait for about 20-30 sec. And this should solve the problem.
Also, you can try to clear dns records, time to time they become faulty. Open command prompt, cmd.exe, type
ipconfig /flushdns.Click to expand...

and you are done.

Another question. Do you steel have problems with deleting System Volume Information folder, if yes, write me PM. This is my first post on the forum, so don't have the right to write PM.

Hey, i keep getting this really annoying timeout error every 10-15 minutes or so and im not sure what is causing it,

Code:
The connection has timed out

The server at rapidlinks.co.uk is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
it only seems to happen on rapidlinks.co.uk (which i use a lot) but it doesnt do it on sweetproxies.com which i know to be on the same server.

I also know this is not a problem with my browser or computer because it
also does it on my playstation3 internet browser. The only thing i can think of is that it has something to do with my ISP? but im not sure.

I should also say that sometimes it doesnt time out but just takes ages to load

Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks!

I have dial-up(can't get broadband here yet). This might just be a setting problem because I think I've had it as long as this computer. I try to go from page to page and it just runs and finally says "session with server has expired/go back to your original link" and I also have a problem where I can do one piece of mail and it immediately takes me to have to log in again every time I do a piece of mail and it says something about" session timeout" . I can restore it back 10 months ago and it does not make any difference. Can anyone help?

Try to clear your Resolver Cache. Go to Start and then Run. Type cmd in the box and press enter. At the command prompt type in ipconfig /flushdnsyou should receive a message stating you have success. Close the window and try accessing CC again.

Hello!

I have recently beginning to have timeout issues with my home network, it's coming about every 30min, but not very often on my girlfriends PC. She only browses Facebook, but did not do it last time I got this error.

The network becomes unavaible for 20~ seconds, then it's back up again, and this is what I found from Event Viewer.
"Name resolution for the name ssl.gstatic.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."
It's not only gstatic that show up, others aswell.

When this occured last time, I was playing an online game, no browser open or anything else, just the game (Also counting processes, only windows system processes + game running).

Our router doesn't say anything at the time of the DNS error, but if you think it's related, this is from the router log:
These are the only ones that show up in the log. [Model: NETGEAR CG3100]

Code:

Issue1: IP packet w/MC or BC SRC addr
Issue2: Illegal TCP header
Any ideas or thoughts? Feel free to ask for more information.

EDIT: It seems to work perfectly with wireless network, still same problems wired.

A:Timeout issue.

Wasn't too happy with that edit, it's happening on wireless aswell.

It has been reduced since I manually input my ISP's DNS, but still not completely gone.
I've also tried Googles open DNS, but didn't change anything.

Hi all, I have found that I can't connect to Facebook as the request times out every single time I try. I know the site isn't down as I tried it on downforeveryoneorjustme.com.
I confess I did something stupid the night before last, which was the last time I was able to access Facebook. Someone sent my friend an abusive message to her facebook email, and I pasted what looked like a secret facebook email/user number into my browser to try and find who did it... a message warned me of a trick and that it didn't require authentication but my hand was faster than my brain and I let it through. >.<

I don't know if that was the cause of the problem but thanks in advance for any help you can give me..

I've tried running MalwareBytes to get any infection (2 items quarantined to do with PUP), tried to get into my router but any username and passwords I try don't work (I reset to factory setting but the ones on the router don't work), and tried to see if it was a firewall issue but didn't really know what to do.

I looked at similar topics but can't get into my router like it said.  I tried tracert www.facebook.com and the request timed out.
I have pinged Facebook at the two IPs I got from the tracert results -  ping 74.119.78.121 said that of 4 packets sent 4 were received and 0 lost. Ping 202.40.161.110 said Timed out.
