Thinkpad X1 Extreme - Monitor Add-on?

Q: Thinkpad X1 Extreme - Monitor Add-on?

I'm a web developer and have an X1E FHD and need a monitor to go with it. I tried the ASUS MB16AC but it's just not as bright and dynamic as the FHD - colors aren't even close, seemed dim and washed out (did try adjustments). Anyone know of a monitor (portable preferred) that would match the X1E-FHD? I would settle for non-portable. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just bought a Thinkpad X1 Extreme 4k, and I'm looking for a portable monitor to expand screen space for work while traveling.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a portable monitor?  I was looking at the Asus Zenscreen MB16AC, but was wondering if there would be a drastic difference in screen display?  I assume with this monitor I wouldn't need any other devices (I could plug the USB-C directly into the Thinkpad and that would be the power source). Thanks in advance!

Hi, So I have U2515H monitors connected with USB-C to HDMI cable, HDMI on monitor end, USB-C on X1 Extreme (windows 10) Same cable (usb-c > hdmi) AND same monitor is working with another computer with Linux and USB-C and with Phones over USB-C, no problems. With X1 Extreme, It only Blinks windows Desktop for a Second and then Its gone no signal.. It was working somehow at one time and sometimes it didnt, now It wont stay on anymore at all, just blinks for a sec. At work with another monitor I had problems too with USB-C, but somehow It is working now, weird thing is that this monitor and cable is totally fine with other devices.

See subject.  Ever since the BIOS upgrade, the dock no longer crashes.  Two days running now with no problems; prior to the upgrade it would crash routinely when connecting via USB-C.  I had to employ the unsavoury workaround of connecting the laptop to a charger and connecting it to the dock via the USB-A port using the USB-A to USB-C adaptor supplied.  Now I'm connecting via USB-C cable only. In fact, I'd given up on using the dock at all and had it just sitting there.  I decided to give it another go after reading that BIOS v1.19 fixed instances of BSODs occuring when connected to an external monitor (which I did experience now and again when connecting to an external monitor via HDMI i.e. not via dock).    Dock Type : 40AFX1E Type : 20MF

Hello, I've been using Thinkpad X1 Extreme for the past 1.5 months. And now speakers(or only right one I believe) started having an issue with crackled/noise sound on high frequencies. It's almost unusable to listen something with speakers because of how painfull it to the ears.  Is there anything possible to do with it to fix it? Or replace internal speaker. Recording with sound:https://www.dropbox.com/s/tjqzczipq45xyh1/video_2019-07-29_15-03-27.mp4?dl=0

This laptop just came in yesterday. Initially even after installing all the updates, the computer was running rather sluggish and slow compared to my previous 2 year old Asus Laptop, in terms of scrolling through webpages, pdf and responsiveness. Now I've reinstalled Windows 10, some of the sluggishness is gone but on Google Drive and Chrome I still find that it is slower compared to my previous laptop.  Do I have a defective unit? Does anyone else have the same problem?

I purchased an X1 Extreme (4K) a few months ago. I have run into a few issues and was hoping I could get some advice. For reference, I have observed these issues across multiple different Windows versions, GeForce driver versions, and Lenovo BiOS versions. I am happy to answer any follow-up questions in the comments. 1.When I have hybrid graphics enabled, I have observed significant stutter when scrolling in applications such as Google Chrome, Spotify, and more, especially when opening PDFs in Chrome. Turning off hybrid graphics resolves fixes this, but I was wondering if there was another option I had other than compromising my battery life by disabling hybrid graphics.2.When I keep the TrackPoint enabled, it occasionally begins moving the cursor on its own and keeps going for a few seconds, with no apparent way to regain control until it stops. While I can fix this by just turning off the TrackPoint, I enjoy using it and would like to know if there is a different solution to this issue. Thank you in advance!

I am hoping to buy an X1 Extreme Gen 2 as soon as possible. I realize that there are four screen options, two FHD, a matte UHD and the OLED. I was hoping to purchase the matte UHD version, but it hasn't been on the website for purchase in over 20 days. Does anyone have any information on whether it will be available?  Time is of the essence, and at this point I am thinking of buying an XPS just because it simply doesn't show up in the customizable options or for purchase on the Thinkpad site. Thanks.

Hello, last week on Friday I closed my laptop and went home, after opening the lid to start working, my laptop didn't boot up. So I force shutdown it (holding the power button for like 20 seconds), after pressing the power-on button, the laptop didn't boot up, instead it started going in a loop, the keyboard backlit started turning on and the fans started, but after 2-3 seconds it powered off automatically, and again powered on automatically with the same behaviour (keyboard backlit and the fans started turning on), this went on and on, until I pressed the button on the back of the laptop, now, when I turned on the laptop, it started w/o any problems. On Saturday when I wanted to wake up my laptop again, it didn't, this time I did the same as above, so forced shut it down, and pressed the power on button, but this time, it didn't turn on, even when I pressed the button on the back of the laptop, and the laptop still has the same behaviour as above. I opened the laptop and changed the RAM slots: nothing  has changedI opened and changed the hard drives, and even took one of them: nothing has changed The laptop doesn't even show the Lenovo sign when I power on the laptop. And I can't even access BIOS. And interestingly my guarantee ended one day before this happened (on Thursday!) Any help would be great. Thanks a lot

Hi I bought a X1 Extreme last week and it's driving me nuts already. The notebook simply does not charge. When I plug-in the power adapter, Windows says that the power supply is plugged-in. But the battery status doesn't change, in both ways (it's not charging but also not discharging). It just stays at the current charging status for hours. I also have Lenovo dockingstation "ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock 170W" and it's the same problem. After a research on the internet, I found the following article which actually helps, but only for a single charge. But as soon as I unplug the power supply again, I have to reboot again, turn of the battery in the BIOS and reconnect the power supply again. https://stebalien.com/blog/fix-for-lenovo-x1-carbon-not-charging/ The drivers are all up to date (installed via Lenovo System Update application). Does anybody suffer from this issue aswell? Thanks for your help!

Hi all, It has been about a month since I received the new X1 Extreme, and it has been quite good so far, but today, for some unknown reason, I've run into some apparent battery issues. I charged my computer overnight yesterday, and when I tried using it in class today, it wouldn't start. The red light on the ThinkPad logo wasn't flashing at all, so something was off. I tried turning it on many times, but nothing happened.  When I came home, I plugged it in and it allowed me to turn it on, but it was stuck at 46% charge and wouldn't move (even after an hour - a period of time sufficient to charge the computer up to 80%). Then, as I was writing this post, a loud 2 bell ringing sound came on and the computer shut down. When I started it up again (connected to the AC adapter), the Lenovo Vantage battery icon displayed an "X" and the Windows battery appeared empty. I made sure to back up everything and updated BIOS and other drivers just in case, but nothing seemed to work. If I disconnect the AC adapter, the computer immediately dies. Like this, the computer is no longer useful to me since I need it on the go.  I'll contact Lenovo support once my schedule frees up a bit, but if this has happened before and you've found a solution, I'd like to get this back to normal as soon as possible. Thanks,  Reilly

It doesn't sound like the fans. It is not really loud but it does vary in loudness. When it's at its loudest, I can hear it while typing in a quite room. Hello,I recently purchased a brand new X1 Extreme, switching (like I suppose many people) from an older MacBook Pro. I am delighted with the machine, and in particular I found that the following key combinations are implemented in the same manner as the MacBook:Fn + left = HomeFn + right = EndHowever, some Fn key combinations are not implemented, and they do nothing. In particular:Fn + up = Page UpFn + down = Page DownFn + backspace = DeleteSince the combinations are implemented by the keyboard controller firmware they cannot be added in software, much to the frustration of former Apple users. So, my request is: would it please be possible to pass this request to the person who maintains the keyboard controller firmware on the X1 Extreme? Adding the missing combinations would maintain total compatibility with the current setup, and would increase the appeal of the X1 Extreme for all the MacBook refugees. Thank you for your attention.

Hi All, I just plaed an online order for ThinkPad X1 Extreme and i have been closely following threads here for the past week to help me decide for the X1E.  I dont know if my question would make sense or not but there is no way to know what kind of FLASH is the SSD used in X1E before placing the order. Who decides what our machine gets when we place an order? No one from the sales team disclosed this before order placing. How do i ask them to change it to a MLC if i want to? I bought a ThinkPad X1 Extreme and I've been using it since nearly two weeks now. My set-up specs are:  Intel Core i7 8750H16GB RAM512GB SSD WDC PC SN720 SDAQNTW-512G-1001NVIDIA GeForce 1050Ti with Max-Q4K Touch display Windows 10 Pro Given such gorgeous specs, I was expecting a lightining fast machine. However, it doesn't feel so.Cold boot (restart) takes usually from 15s to 20s. Normal boot (Windows fast start-up) is taking from 10s to 15s. Wake up from sleep also takes long, nearly 10s. The screen needs 5s to go from black (with the power button led still flashing) to login screen and from there it takes another 5s to activate biometrics (fingerprint and Windows Hello), verify identity and then enter desktop.Word and Excel need 2s to open (wich is 1s more than a 4 years old ASUS laptop I was using before, with way worse specs).Matlab R2106a requires an outstanding 40s to open, while on an old MacBook Pro only needs 15s. VirtualBox needs 7s to open and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS from VirtualBox took nearly 1 full minute to show the login screen. Plugging the AC cable does make some difference, however not so much for heavy software like Matlab (30s with AC). And all this was with max performance mode setted within Windows and also Lenovo Vantage utility software.  I don't think it's something hardware related, since Cinebench is giving me 1365 cb with Windows increased battery mode and 2178 cb with AC plugged in and max performance mode. Just bought a ThinkPad X1 Extreme UHD and had some questions because I plan on doing a few things upon receiving it. Got the smallest drive because I'm swapping it out with a pair of Samsung EVO 970s I have to dual boot. Doing a clean install from my Windows 10 USB installer and I have Pro license through my Microsoft account, so not concerned about losing the recovery partition and license. I pretty much never use the manufacturers recovery partition because it typically comes with bloat and redundant utilities; just takes up space. Windows comes with enough bloat on a clean install--don't need more. That being said, my concern is with the UHD touchscreen and its ability to recognize a ThinkPad Pen Pro: will I need to manually install an additional driver or program to make sure everything works properly? (Seems fairly straightfoward if I do: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-...) After that, I intend to under-volt the CPU in the BIOS. That is where I have typically done it just because I've heard enough from others using software like Throttlestop and XTU that the settings aren't being applied at start-up, they are randomly being unapplied, and that it adds overhead to start-up of the OS and background processes. Never tried so can't speak from experience. In the past I have had to use utilities like AfuWin (to back-up and restore BIOS) and AMIBCP (to unlock hidden... Read more

I just received my new Thinkpad Extreme laptop with 4k screen a few days ago. I'm formerly a Macbook Pro user and I love the Thinkpad Extreme. However, I'm shocked to see that my real-world battery life usage is 4hrs and 40mins. Especially when they advertise the battery life to be 14 hrs! My power mode is set to "Better Battery", screen brightness at about 80% and I'm the only doing web browsing and some youtube videos. Not even video rendering or editing. This is a massive deal-breaker for me. I was hopping for about 6 hours at least. Can any other Thinkpad Extreme user with 4k monitor advise if this is normal? How much battery life do you get? I checked with support but they refuse to tell me what the average battery life I should be expecting and just say that battery life will vary with usage. I found this review online which says they got 6 hours 7mins of continuous wifi web surfing: https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-extreme Again, I feel quite a let down because the the specs say up to 14 hours. I was expecting even at half of that I was hoping to get about 7 hours. But about 4+ hours is really bad - its almost the same as my 7 year old Macbook Pro which I switched from.
