Thinkpad P70 - Cannot duplicate display over HDMI ...

Q: Thinkpad P70 - Cannot duplicate display over HDMI ...

Hello,I've been running into a fairly consistent problem with my Lenovo Thinkpad P70. It has the Quadro M3000m, and the Xeon CPU option which includes the HD530 graphics. I usually run the graphics in Hybrid mode, since I run into driver compatibility problems running it in Discrete Only.In Hybrid mode, there's some strange behavior. When I use the external HDMI display only, Extended Display, or the internal laptop display only, everything works well. However, when I use "Duplicate Display", it does not work. The laptop display turns on, goes to a very low resolution (1280x720 I believe), and the external display turns off. When I look in the Intel GPU multi-display settings, it says that there are two displays, the laptop display and "virtual display". When I go into the nVidia multi-display GPU settings, it shows that there are three: The Samsung TV (My external display), the internal display, and 'Analog display', which it shows connected via VGA (which is wrong), and also shows a max resolution of this 'analog display' as 1280x720. In the nVidia screen, it shows that while activating the 'duplicate display' mode, the computer tries to connect to both the internal display and this 'analog display' (which is not correct at all), but if I manually disable the analog display, enable the Samsung TV, and then right-click the Samsung TV and click "Duplicate from Display 1", the duplicate display feature works, and the "analog display" disappears from the list. The thing is, every time I switch back and fourth, this whole process resets, and it's a big pain to manually alter the settings in the nVidia settings every time. The even more strange thing is, when I uninstall the OEM graphics drivers entirely, reinstall them (The Optimus drivers provided by Lenovo), and restart, the feature works great right after installation. However, the next time I restart, the problem is back to normal.Does anyone know of why this might be happening, and know of a solution? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I setup a new computer with windows 7 pro with a msi hd6450 video card.
I am trying to duplicate my desktop to a TV using a HDMI to cat5e converter.
I change my setting on my display to duplicate desktop and apply. I rebooted my computer and the windows 7 startup screen shows on both screens, but when I login the TV screen goes to no signal. My desktop monitor is plugged into the vga plug and the TV is plugged into the hdmi.

A:How to duplicate display using hdmi to cat5e converter

Hi

I don't have a detailed knowledge of this specific graphics card but I'm sure I read that it will only support either HDMI or VGA. If you disconnect your VGA does Windows display on the TV?

What resolutions have you tried? It might be too high. Start at a low resolution such as 800x600 and work your way up.

I've had my Yoga working almost flawlessly since purchase.  I use a Wacom Cintiq without issue and our of no where, I get a black screen on display 2.  I've tried multple displays and cables.  I am aware converters do not work so these are straight connections.  Sometimes through DP, the laptop screen will flicker like crazy and I need to unplud the Mini DP cable.  I uninstalled drivers but that didn't help.  The second display is picked up by Windows, it just doesnt show video.  Any ideas?

My Thinkpad Yoga 15 has a problem, which may or may not be related to the BIOS update recently performed. When booting, the bootup screen only appears on an external monitor via the HDMI output. When performing the hardware tests in the BIOS, tests are done on the HDMI-connected display, the internal display does not seem to be recognized. I verified this using both Linux and Windows. It does not seem to be a hardware failure; I have been able to get the display on the internal LCD a few times, by powering down the laptop, holding the power button for about 20 seconds, then powering back on while pressing F1. The laptop will then function for a while, but loses its display after coming out of sleep. Needless to say, this is unworkable. Does anyone have any tips on how this could be fixed in a more permanent fashion or any indication to cause? BIOS does not allow me to turn off NVIDIA, or its opposite, to enable it exclusively. I also tried different drivers, from both Lenovo as well as NVIDIA and Intel, but to no avail. Any pointers appreciated.

HI, I just added a TV to my Z50 with a HDMI cable. I have duplicate screens now, but is it possible to have extended screen? I want to use my tv (if possible) to show open webpages and excel sheets, while working on my laptop. When I am in Control Panel > Display, I can select option extend to this screen but all it does is Remove the icons from my desktop (on the TV) and only show the background pic. I can't put a screen on my TV screen. Anybody any ideas? Thanks!

The history appears to show an automatic update occurred overnight.  I was running Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to 10.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the intel video driver, I reinstalled the chipset driver.  I have trimmed the micro HDMI cord as suggested in one of the posts.  I have seen enough posts on the various boards to know my issue does not seem to be an isolated case... but I haven't been able to find an explanation of the cause or a reliable solution.  Any help is appreciated.

This is driving me insane, cant find a solution on the internet and can't figure it out myself. It worked fine in windows 7 but now when I choose "duplicate display" from the side menu popup the tv goes blank as if Ive unplugged the hdmi. All 3 of the remaining display options work including the extend display and tv only setting so its not a cable issue. Laptop model is XPS 17 L702X. Now when I used to do it in win 7 sometimes it wouldnt autodetect it so I would have to right click desktop, open invidia up and click rigorous display detect or something like that and then laptop screen would blink and make the beep noise like when hdmi cable got connected. Now in the invida panel it just simply wont allow mirroring, nothing happens when I right click on the display box that would normally show 1 and a smaller box would say 2. I dont get it but Id really like that feature back If its something simple I could do.

A:Duplicate monitor to TV via hdmi no longer works

Ive actually seen a lot of people having this problem from the google search results I get but it seems like everyone either gets it situated and never reposts solution, or is so fed up that they just revert to 7 or 8.1 or whatever os actually had this feature working. Ive seen multiple screenshots of "duplicate display" as an option in the dropdown options when pin display settings however mine only shows "extend" "only 1" and "only 2" but if I hit win-p I get all 4 options but duplicate just wont work, the tv goes blank and gives me the message you get when i unplug the hdmi. Extend works fine as well as "only 2" which shows the screen on the tv and blacks my laptop screen. It's not even a major problem because now that im using "only 2" I actually prefer it but now its become one of those computer puzzles thats driving me crazy because I cant solve it. I think it has something to do with the combination of nvidia and intel graphics because the nvidia control panel options have changed as well, no longer showing laptop screen under the intel line but I clean installed the nvidia driver so I cant imagine updating a driver would take away features. I dont know, but id sure like to know whats causing this to not work.

Bought new tv, no vga port, so needed hdmi to connect pc.After installingGeForce 8400 GS 512 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, finally got recognized after regedit rollback to SP2 for Hotfix, but no sound to tv via hdmi. Display Adapter drivers up to date. Also tried RCA red/white audio from pc to tv, still nothing. I can get sound from pc to Pioneer HT receiver using Digital Audio inputs, which is fine, but I still want audio from pc to tv, so that I can use Bluetooth headphones (receiver does NOT have ARC or Bluetooth, pc does not have optical audio) . Cannot seem to find setting on pc allowing sound via hdmi (there is no setting on tv). (note: have connected usb stick to tv and sound thru tv DOES work, so it is not a physical issue with tv)

That being said, I think the problem may very well be with the duplicate entry of "Microsoft UAA BusDriver for High Definition Audio" listed in Device Manager. One appears to be normal ,
the other has the exclamation point
. Every time I uninstall the problem one, it reinstalls when pc is turned back on.. Also to note, if simply left as is (enabled), pc goes into restart bootloop, cannot turn off; must be disabled in order to properly shut down pc from start menu.

How can I get audio from pc to tv?
Thanks.

I have 2 monitors and an HP docking station on my desk.  Many times a day I have to undock and go to a conference room to run meetings. When using a projector, if I connect to my ZBook with the VGA cable I am able to duplicate perfectly.  I see the same thing on the projector screen as I see on my laptop screen.   But when I connect with an HDMI cable the projector screen acts as a second monitor and doesn't duplicate what's on my main screen.  I have to drag the file that I want to project off of my laptop screen and onto the projector screen.  So I'm not able to duplicate, but have to make any changes to the projected file while looking at the projector screen.   So the question is why is the VGA connection doing exactly what I want and the HDMI connection not?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also there igoogled, found the Shift-Restart idea, but that doesn't let me boot in safe mode, only gives Option for restoration. As i understand it the problem should be with the registry, but i don't really dare to fiddle with that, i am no expert. Is there any way short of a factory reset to resolve this? Hope someone has an idea, forgive my bad english tom

I am using an Asus N76VZ, if it makes any difference.

Hi everyone,

We are having a problem here that I have never encountered before. We have a few workstations that have the same entry for the display adapter installed twice. When you click on the one that is listed first and try to disable it or delete it you get a message that says that you can not perform that operation because the device is being deleted. If you remove or disable the one that is listed second whenever you restart the computer it comes right back.

The reason this was brought to my attention is because the users who have this happening have to reset their display settings (screen resolution) every day.

When I go into Safe Mode and look at the device manager there is only one display adapter listed. When I remove it their and restart the computer and log in normally. They are both back with the same scenario I explained earlier.

Have a Sony PCGF490 which shrinks the image to less than a full display both horizontal and vertical and then partially duplicates this image again, about 2" from the bottom of the display. In Win98 it displays duplicate icons on the display. A 1/2' high horizontal, grey band separates the two images. Happens in Windows 98 or booting from a DOS floppy. Problem starts as soon as I get the Sony logo after post. I temporarily swapped out the display and inverter with a display from a Sony PCGF430 (slightly smaller display) and the problem went away. Thinking the 490 LCD was defective, I ordered a replacement but still have the same problem. An external monitor does not exhibit the same problem. The internal LCD cable 'appears' intact. The screen is 3m x 3m in size. The manufacturers of the screen gave me software to allow me to play media on. This works perfectly fine and at the right resolution.

But, I recently tried to stream a live game on the screen. I have not been able to get the right resolution and the outdoor screen only displays a portion of what's playing on the desktop.

I will be extremely grateful for any help.
