Internal microphone has disappeared after installing Windows...

Q: Internal microphone has disappeared after installing Windows...

I have tried the fixes suggested in the posts for finding the internal microphone but when I right-click in Sounds - Recording and click on Show disabled devices or Show disconnected devices, nothing shows up. All I can find under Recording is a line-in option, no mic anywhere and no other options. No one can hear me on Skype now. Any suggestions please? Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased T460p with windows 10 operating system. The microphone is not working. I have tried update audio driver, update windows10, and check microphone setting in control panel. The old thread in the forum shows that muting microphone may cause disfunction issue. However, that is not the problem in my case. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I own a laptop (Presario CQ56) and have been using Skype constantly for about a year with its internal microphone without an issue. After obtaining an automatic Windows 7 update a couple of days ago, my internal microphone stopped working. The microphone is still detected, enabled, but isn't picking up any input whatsoever. However, there is low static, but it's very constant, and isn't changed by input whatsoever. Here are the things I've tried:

-System Restore to before the update, then disabling automatic updates so I no longer have it
-Running the computer's find and fix audio recording software which claimed that there was no issue
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers without restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (through the official site's driver updates)

I do not own an external microphone, and I am hoping that I don't have to get one. That being said, that also means that I can't be entirely sure whether it's software or hardware based.

I hope that one of you can help me. I've done a lot of internet scouring and Google-ing and have run out of things to try; I've been at it for about 5 hours so far.

Thank you in advance.

A:Internal Microphone Suddenly Not Working After Windows Update

I would do a system restore to before it did the updates and see if it resolves the issue. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date before the problem started happening and let it restore. See if the mic works after that. If it asks to do updates again and by chance you know what one caused the problem; then just dont download it. And to solve that from happening i would change the windows update settings to only download but let me choose when to install. EDIT: nevermind the system restore I just saw you already did that. In the end though i would just completely uninstall the device itself; remove it from device manager completely; and let windows hopefully re-detect it correctly.

The Windows 10 upgrade seems to be working fine on my HDX 16 (I did a clean install). Now I want to talk to Cortana and cannot get my built-in microphone to work. This brings up two questions. 1. Does my laptop model have an Integrated Microphone Array? I cannot remember the last time it worked, but I thought it had one. 2. If it does have a built-in mic, how do I get Windows 10 and Cortana to hear it? I have tested and have got things to work with an external (Logitech) headset mic and headphones. And, I have an old unbranded external stand mic that works as well. I just cannot yell "Hey Cortana" at my PC and get anything to happen. I also ran the mic test on the Integrated Microphone Array and it recorded nothing (and I set the array to default). My driver is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC 6.10.6225.0, dated 7/21/2009.

I'm having a bit of a problem after I reset a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A-13T computer and upgraded it to windows 10. I reinstalled all the software from the Windows 10 upgrade Toshiba page and everything appears to work except the internal microphone. It doesn't appear to register any sound. It worked before, with windows 8.1 installed.

I tried another external microphone and that work fine. I tried reinstalling the IDT sound drivers and uninstalled DTS sound and Toshiba audio enhancements. I tried different audio levels and boost levels. The newest BIOS is installed. I tried using microsoft HD audio drivers but always with the same result, the green bar doesn't budge in recording devices.

After upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, the internal microphone on my DELL Inspiron 1525 does not work. When checking in the Control Panel > Sounds, the only device options are for the external microphone connection to the jack... Please help!

A:DELL Inspiron 1525 Internal Microphone Not Working After Windows 7 Upgrade

Hi vinnyspice,
According to Dell's website, this laptop's drivers are only for Windows Vista. You contact Dell and see if there is any update available.
In the meantime, try downloading and installing the chipset driver and the sound card driver for Windows Vista and see if the issue can be resolved. You can download
Also, run Windows Update to see if it helps.

With all your drives plugged in, Go to Start/Search and type diskmgmt.msc, right click the diskmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Disk Management window in the lower pane are your drives showing up? I installed windows 8 and formatted my SSD to do so, and now Win 8 is on it clean installation.

I loaded up computer, and can't find my 2tb hard drive? It's not showing anywhere.. where has it gone? It shows in device manager but I can't access it.. :(

A:I can't see my Internal 2tb hard drive after installing windows 8, only my ssd

Similarly to the steps below from Ryanbac.
Once your in Disk Management and you can see your 2nd hard drive, you'll need to assign a letter to it.
Right Click on the Drive > Change Drive Drive Letter and Paths > Choose a letter.
Once this is done you'll be find your 2nd or 3rd HDD when you open My Computer.
If you can't then you'll definitely need to format it.
Hope that helps :)

I got a new hard drive and plugged it in, booted up with the windows DVD, it went through all the loading business etc., and it came to the part where you choose where to install windows. My new hard drive showed up on the list, I selected it, and it began doing it's business. It was checking video settings and stuff like that.

Next time I looked it had arrived back at installation for some reason. So I did it again, but this time when it came to the part where I chose the hard drive to install on, it had disappeared as an option (the list was blank). I thought maybe it had already installed so I booted up without the DVD, but it asked for the disc. And I put my old HD back in (as evidenced by this post), so I didn't accidentally unplug some cable somewhere.

Unfortunately I was not paying attention to what was on screen before it seemed to reset back to the installation start.

I also notice in safe mode it says i have 2.30GB left, but when i get out of safe mode it says 1.80GB, but right now, it reads 900MB ????????????

A:Disappeared internal CD/DVD burner

Hi Kelli,

Give this a shot:

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps and be VERY CAREFUL and ensure you are modifying the correct keys:

1. Click START and type "regedit" in the "Run" box. This will open the registry for editing.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

Caution: There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.

3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Note: After you remove the UpperFilters registry entry and the LowerFilters registry entry, you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs. If the problem recurs, contact the ... Read more

This is my first post so please excuse my tech knowledge. My son;s computer is running a rather small hard drive (15 gigs) so I decided to replace it with a 40gig hard drive (seagate brand) I re-formatted the drive that went ok. The computer rebooted and prepared to start the window XP install. The Windows logo screen appeared then dissappeared and a blue screen appeared telling me that to prevent damage to the computer it would now shut down.I re-tried the procedure a few more times with the same result.I then installed the same hard drive on my personal computer went through the same formatting procedure and it then proceded to instal windows XP without a problem. I tested the windows install by playing windows games (such as solitaire) opening different screens all without a problem.I then re-installed the drive in my son's computer,it looked like it would start up but it just reverted back to the start up screen over and over. Can any one out there have any ideas. You really should let us know exactly the make and model number of your system so that we can send you to the right place to find the microphone driver for your compaq/HP machine.

Normally you can go to the manufacturers web site and look under support and downloads to find the correct driver for the devices on your machine. Give that a shot.

filling out y our system specifications would help go to CP and add the info.

I recently reinstalled Win 7 on my HP Probook 4530s, and have encountered a few problems since.
The latest is that the internal microphone does not seem to be functioning at all through any programs that would use it (Skype, sound recorder etc).

It does appear in the audio devices control panel but not in device manager (although I don't know that it should?), and it says its working correctly but obviously this is not so!

Additionally, the sound was behaving erratically as well - it often will not work unless I click the test button on the speaker properties page. If I leave the computer for any length of time I have to repeat this.

I have downloaded the only audio driver that is listed here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5060880&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4058 but this does not seem to have any effect.

Hi, I am having an issue with the internal microphone.  I was just using it the other day with out any problems, and now today it keeps auto muting itself.  I have used the HP link http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03421813/ and went step by step.  Those did not work.  I researched and updated all drivers and bios.  This did not work either. I have repeatedly gone into the recording device properties and adjusted the levels, which did allow me a brief moment of talking, followed immediately by muting itself.  I can see this has been a repetitive problem with HP's and I am hoping for a new solution that is not the link provided above as it is not fixing the issue. Please enlighten me with some new ideas.  Thank You.

Hello everyone, So today I recieved my laptop back from repairs, I had a faulty Wifi adapter and they fixed this by completely replacing the motherboard and the wifi adapter and wiping my data. Now while that is a minor inconvenience, the bigger problem is that my internal microphone does not work at all.Windows shows it working, but it does not pick up sound at all, not in settings, not in skype and not after reinstalling my complete OS, now this sounds like they did not connect the microphone when replacing my MB.  I do not want to send my laptop back, so does anyone here know how to fix the mic without having to send it back, I tried every single software solution for my microphone, I have six years of IT epxerience. Kind regards, Coldfreeze

A:internal microphone not working

Do you see it in recording devices in this generic laptop? Is it set to default? You say Windows shows it working so it must be connected.
