Preferred Solution: MY Arrow "Pointer" Jump and Viberate

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Our local library has a patron who has problems with following the pointer arrow on our computers. It needs to be replaced with another display, perhaps in color,or made larger. When we go into the control panel to pick a different theme, there is only one selection and it would not work. We have the pcs loaded with WIN NT I think there is a way to change the pointer by going into the Internet and downloading one but I don't know how. Any suggestions?

I'm having problems with my arrow pointer when I'm trying to write email or write anything in Microsoft Word. When I have the arrow pointer anywhere in the text or it jumps around if I leave it while writing. For example, if I leave it in text where I have already written something, it will jump back to that part of the text and start typing into the text. I then have to delete and start again. How do I turn this off?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Having Problems With Arrow Pointer

It could be you are getting interference from the touchpad while typing.
Go into the touchpad settings/properties and disable it and then see if that stops the problem.
If it does, then you can change settings such as sensitivity, disable while typing or leave it off all together.

Please report back and let us know the result.

Suddenly the arrow pointer is gone, as if no mouse is attached (which there is). It does not come up at all even after a reboot (not before or after login). I've tried different USB mice, reinstalling or upgrading Intellipoint has no effect (and was a pain to do without a mouse!) The PC seems to detect newly-added mice, the device manager says they're "working properly" and uninstalling/reinstalling drivers at that level didn't work. Finally, I swapped out the hard drive with another and the pointer shows up, so it's a software problem. I'm not familiar with how the Human USB Interface Device stuff interacts with intellipoint so ... Any ideas?

I've posted on the general security forum about this, and was advised to post my log here. For about two seconds every eight, my mouse pointer changes from an arrow, to an arrow with an hourglass on the right of it which, according to my mouse settings, means "working in the background". The cursor never changes to the hourglass alone in this instance, just the arrow with hourglass. My computer isn't really making any unusual whirring noises, and task manager never shows CPU usage about about 5%, even when the arrow/hourglass is showing. It seems to happen with regularity, whenever my pc is on, and whether or not it is connected to the internet. I've scanned with Norton IS, Spybot, and Adaware, which found nothing. The online Pandascan found one pice of "Spyware", but I'm pretty certain that it's just a cookie. Anyway, here's my HJT log and Pandascan log...

I have a toughbook that is running Windows XP Pro and IE8. Starting a couple days ago, it started making me click multiple times to be able to type in a search box on just about any website including Google. What I mean by clicking multiple times is, when I am in another program and click in the search box of the website to switch to the Internet Explorer window, I have to click 2 or more times before it will switch to that window and allow me to type in the box. Today I noticed that if I just mouse over a search box like Google's search box, the cursor will very quickly switch back and forth from the to the , and it will display the "Google Search" tooltip when the arrow is displayed. I have tried using Firefox to see if it happens there as well, but Firefox works fine. I have started Internet Explorer with no addons and it still does it. I have also uninstalled IE8 and used IE6 and IE7 but they both still have this problem. It doesn't seem to happen on bing.com but on every other site I have this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

My OCZ Agility 3 SSD started to fail and temporarily I have replaced it with a Crucial MX100 SSD, whilst the RMA is being dealt with.

I had multiple copies of Windows 8 on the old SSD managed by Bootit Bare Metal and I copied these to the replacement SSD. Now when I start Windows 8 with new SSD the mouse pointer keeps jumping and a little blue circle appears by it.

If I go to the Task Manager and stop the Microsoft Windows Search Indexer the mouse stays still and behaves normally.

Is there a better way to avoid this problem?

A:Microsoft Indexing makes mouse pointer jump

Open Folder Options and turn on "Show Hidden Files" & "Show hidden System Files" and check the file under:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Windows.edb. This is the index files for Windows Search. If the file is too big in size then that would cause problem indexing. If it's too big, you can delete and let Windows Search rebuilt it but you first have to turn off the Windows Search Service.

Pesonally, I dont use Windows Search that often so I have the Service turn off and delete the Windows.edb. However, I use a small search engine: Everything Quich Search which is small, compact and does very good job, the result of the search comes back almost instanly.
Here's the link: Everything Search Engine

This is ridiculously annoying.  No matter which open program or site you are trying to work on, when the mouse touches any edge of another window then that one immeditely pops to the front.  This is Windows 8 or 8.1 with the Classic Shell add-on.  Firefox is the default browser, but this also happens when I have only Word and Excel open.  I have read other web sites where people have this same complaint.  Some believe it is a mouse sensitivity issue, but I know that's not the solution in this case.  If this is an issue of "hover delay" then how do you turn that off or adjust it so it does not take over like this?  Thanks

A:windows annoyingly jump to front when touched by mouse pointer

It sounds like you have of the accessibility helpers turned on.
Go to "Control Panel", "Ease of Access", "Change how the Mouse Works"
(or select  "Make the mouse easier to use" if you end up in "Ease of Access Center")
On the "Make the mouse easier to use" page, under "Make it easier to manage windows", you will find a setting "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse". I suspect that that setting has become enabled. Untick it, Select "OK" and you should be back to normal.

I've searched on the forums for this but don't see an issue that seems the same.
I have a new Inspiron 15 Gaming laptop but didn't buy it for gaming. I've installed Linux on it, though I also saw a similar problem when running the Windows 10 OS that came with the laptop before I switched to Linux (don't want to get into a discussion about why I changed - it is more appropriate for me to use Linux as the native system).
I've noticed a few issues with the touchpad but I reckon most are just a case of getting used to it, after many years on completely different laptop. However, one issue I can't figure out is that, from time to time, I'm moving the pointer around and it will jump quite a distance, often right to the lower left of the screen but sometime horizontally left or right. It happens frequently enough (though still, thankfully, rare) to become annoying.
Does anyone have any ideas? I notice DELL have no software for the machine that's specific to Linux, so that channel doesn't seem open. With some other similar issues I've noticed some have reported multiple touchpad devises listed with xinput, but that's not the case with me.
For information, I'm on Linux Mint 18 and have altered very little since installing it a few days ago, apart from regular system updates.

I have a problem that I've never experienced before in XP, Vista and Windows 7. I have researched the problem but the only thing I can find is how to turn on and turn off the "jump to" default button pointer setting. In the past, the jump to feature worked as intended but appx. two weeks ago I started having this problem. We all know how the function works and the fact that it will not work with all default buttons, which is good. Here's the current situation: the pointer still goes to the window in which the default button is located but instead of landing on the button the pointer goes to the upper left corner or mid-left side of the window. I haven't installed any software lately that would cause such a thing to happen and I haven't made any changes. The problem occurs in both my user account and my wife's user account, mine being an Administrator account and hers being a Stanard account. My Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard software is up to date and the current driver is installed. I have not changed/updated the driver in the software. I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted to no avail. The mouse settings are properly set to enable the jump.

Help would be appreciated.

A:change the mouse pointer to a yellow circle around the pointer!

The way I have change cursors is to treat them like a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the original cursor with a .bak in the name and then copy and paste the custom cursor with the original cursor's name into C:\Windows\Cursors folder. Take a look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information

Then you will need to reboot.

I am the go-to guy (IT ADMIN) for all PC/network problems at work so this is how I became introduced to this laptop. The laptop is a gateway W6501 and is an employee husband?s laptop (yea I know, what where you thinking). Here is the problem, when booting the laptop starts fine show the little Microsoft cyber eye thing. The hard drive light flashes normally the arrow appears and nothing. Black screen, moveable arrow and nothing else happens (HD light flashes once and sits there until forced pwr down).
Safe mode works normal, restore does not fix it, boot fix finds no errors, chkdsk finds no HD errors. McAfee virus has no signs of virus and in safe mode system log does not show any issues that could have caused this problem. I tried hooking a monitor to the video out, tried low res boot and I tried the FN/LCD to move to external monitor. I even removed several programs including MacAfee that could cause such an issue. I would just restore to factory but I hate to do that and lose all their info.

Any suggestions would be great thank you!

I just got this laptop and everything is great EXCEPT the fact that the up arrow key is where the right shift key normally is on every other computer I have ever used in my life.  This is honestly causing me a huge headache because I type very fast and without thinking or looking and every time I go to do an uppercase letter and reach for the shift key, I hit the arrow key instead. I honestly don't know why anyone would build a keyboard that is different than others but I am trying to figure out how to work with this without slowing down my typing, which is honestly driving me insane. What can I do here other than continue to make typos?  I hooked up an external keyboard for the shorterm but that doesn't really help me when I'm on a plane or travelling for work.  I paid a lot for this computer and really need to be able to use it properly.

A:arrow on icons

Hello Calmat,

The arrow overlay on the icon indicates that it's a shortcut. A shortcut is just a link to open whatever program or folder it's target is for. If you like, you could remove the shortcut arrow, but it would make it harder to tell what is a shortcut, and what is the actual folder or program's exe file. Option One in the tutorial below can show you how to change or remove the shortcut arrow.

Hope this helps,

Weird stuff...the shortcut arrow on icons is changing to images resembling application icons. Notice in the pic that shortcuts to a Chrome web address, a PDF file, a Folder, and a Word document have an Excel icon where the white shortcut arrow should be.

I reboot and the shortcut arrow reappears, only to have the Excel (or some other icon) replace it. Sometimes the change happens within a few minutes, sometimes a couple of hours later.

The other day, the arrows were fine, then I opened/used/closed Camtasia Studio. The shortcut arrow was then replaced with the Camtasia icon. A few minutes later, the Camtasia icon was replaced with the Excel icon. By the way, I hadn't used Excel.

Lastly, I restored my pc with an Acronis image to a date prior to the first appearance of the changing shortcut icons, which cleared the problem for a couple of weeks. Then it came back. The only system changes following the image restore were Windows Updates and a Filezilla update.

Any suggestions as to the cause of the change?

Thanks for your help.

I am not sure which section to put this under, so please guide me to the correct section if this is wrong. I'm using a SteelSeries Apex keyboard. My computer doesn't recognize my right arrow key. It's not the keyboard, it's the computer. I've used different keyboards, rebound my right arrow key and my computer still does not recognize what a right arrow key is. No matter what I do, any key rebound to right arrow key will not work.

A:Right Arrow Key won't register

1. What is the brand and exact model of computer?
2. What version of Windows are you running?
3. Does the right arrow on the onscreen keyboard work?

Hi, I have a problem with the arrow next to the lock button. Half of it is missing. The only thing i have found was a reg hack to remove the lock button to allow more room for the arrow. The reg change did not work and messed up my mouse and keyboard along with no sound from media player. A system restore fixed everything. Has anyone had this problem with the arrow? See attachment. Thanks for any help

Welcome to the forums!

Are you using a custom DPI setting? That's the only time I've seen odd display issues is when the user sets a custom DPI setting.

My right arrow key stopped working on my Inspiron 13 7000 2in1 (7359). I googled for a solution and it seems like a ridiculous amount of people with a Dell laptop have had the same problem, yet I wasn't able to find a working solution.I did some testing of my own and this is what I found:- Latest bios update and drivers didn't help- Diagnostic boot didn't find anything- External USB keyboard didn't have the same problem- Problem first appeared in Windows, but persists in Dell boot menu and  when launching Kali Linux from USB- Here's the kicker though, when I press and hold the left arrow button and then press the right arrow button the right arrow button actually works, which is a nice short term fix, but I prefer to get a proper fixI downloaded some tutorials from YouTube on how to open my laptop to check the keyboard cable and remove dust, but as I'm not an experienced hardware person I will only be doing this as a last resort.TL;DR: I have 2 questions:1) How do i fix this?2) Why does this happen to so many Dell laptops?Greetings,Jor

Sometimes I click on something and an arrow with a dot on it, or a dot in the middle of two arrows, shows up out of nowhere and the page starts scrolling. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to know why this happens and how to avoid it. Thanks!

A:Mysterious Arrow

Lol.... that indicates that page scrolling is enabled... Mine is activated by using the scroll wheel as a button on my mouse..
