I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi  I'm using Arch Linux with the latest stable linux kernel from kernel.org (4.12.8) on my G580. During the boot process, the kernel provides the following messages:[ 0.738821] pci 0000:00:14.0: xHCI BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug ?) 00010001[ 2.436936] pci 0000:00:1a.0: EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug?) 01010001[ 4.103660] pci 0000:00:1d.0: EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug?) 01010001 The messages appear whether booting in UEFI or BIOS mode. My understanding is that the linux kernel follows industry standards in how it takes host controller ownership from the BIOS. Will Lenovo release an update to address this issue? Here's some of my system info: Product Name: Lenovo G580Lenovo SN: CB20878600BIOS Version: 5ECN96WW(V9.01)Board Number: 3039047104562 I've also attached the outputs of dmidecode and dmesg.

So I bought a new CPU for my old G580 laptop. I wanted to upgrade from the B960 it has right now (it's the 20150 model). The new CPU is a i5-3320M as it's listed as a compatible part on both the downloadable PDF and the PartsLookup website (I checked with my serial number as well). I changed the CPU, installed thermal paste, everything, but to no avail. Won't even enter BIOS. The "on" LED flashes for 10 seconds, then it shuts down. Installed the old CPU again - it boots without problems. New CPU again - no BIOS, nothing. I have updated my BIOS to the latest possible version (version 5ECN96WW (V9.01), as the newer version shows a "Error 255 - TDK Library Initialization Failed". I just don't know what to do anymore. Could be a faulty CPU, but I doubt it. The only difference is that the old CPU is Sandy Bridge, and the new is Ivy Bridge. But it's shown as "compatible" with the laptop everywhere. It's a shame really...

So, earlier today, everything was fine. My computer was working normally nothing was acting up. While unplugging my laptop from the wall I dropped it, but nothing appeared to be wrong. A little while later I restarted my computer and it worked fine for about a minute and then everything froze in windows explorer, nothing would work, folders wont open task manager never appears start menu wont come up, nothing.
I booted into safe mode and everything works fine through there, so I looked around online and one suggestion was to update my BIOS so I tried to update from Dells Inspiron 1420 A08 to the newer A10 BIOS version, trying that in safe mode failed so I tried to boot normally and quickly do whatever it told me, when I tried it wouldnt restart (and still refuses too, I have to shut it down manually outside of safe mode) it said it couldnt update the BIOS version because it couldnt locate the image, but I downloaded it directly from Dells own website.
So then I tried to do a system restore, and I got the message:

The disk Vista (c:) has errors
Windows detected file system corruption on Vista (c:)
You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

So I clicked scan and fix, and nothing happens. (this is back in safe mode by the way) so I opened a command promp and typed sfc /scannow
and it scanned and found some errors but were unable to fix them. Details are located in the CBS.log
So I opened the log and I found the following:

POQ 62 ends.

Hi, the first rule if you ever drop a laptop (and it appears OK) is to take the battery out, boot from the mains if all is OK turn off add battery and reboot. Now you may have damaged the MB and or the RAM seating or HDD cable connection as well as the monitor connect cable.. etc ...etc. You can see where this is heading to the shop would be my advice.

It says unmounted boot volume, and then restarts.  I'm trying to acces the bios so I can boot from a USB or DVD, but it won't let me access it because of the fast start.  However the computer won't fully start for me to disable the fast start, so I'm at a total loss for what to do.  I tried the novo button but it's just sending me to the normal boot screen.  Where it says the same thing.  Thanks so much for the help!!!

A friend had a malware attack, a beeping error on Chrome about a Windows Defender error running Win 10. She managed to shut down Chrome and then shut off her computer. She tried turn back on, but it would not. I managed to start the computer by removing battery , AC power and the bios battery. The only way to turn on is to remove all of the above and then reinsert bios battery and connect AC power. The keyboard does not work properly, types mostly 6s and a few other characters (ie the shift key types an 's'). No wifi, no CD, no mouse touchpad. I can get into Windows 8, which I restored from factory partiton. Did not affect the operation. I assumed that the bios must have been over written, so I downloaded an update, but it will not install. Program goes through the motions, but the old bios is still there. I am using an external USB KB and mouse. I still can not get into the bios. Is there a way to "force" a bios update?

Hey there, I've got a problem with my new G580 2698.After installing Win7, I can't access BIOS. When I'm pressing F2, nothing happens - I even tried all those other fancy things like pressing/holding B and many other ways. I simply can't. There's no "Please wait" or anything. OneKey Rescue System boots system normally into Win7. Also there's no "setup" entry or anything other than Diagnostic Splash in the F12-boot menu's "Apps"-section. This is bad because it hinders me to boot anything in UEFI-mode. Everything else kinda works (got a running Win7 machine). Is there a way to reflash the BIOS? It's the 62CN42WW one. Maybe that will solve my problem? Also any other hints are welcome. Thank you and good dayAstfgl_

Hello,I've a Lenovo G580 Laptop (2nd Gen PDC B960, 2 GB, 500 GB, DOS) When I bought it came pre-installed DOS, and then I install Windows 7 ultimate (32-bit, i didn't know at that time, 2nd gen PDC are 64-bit). My friend recommend me to disable UEFI from boot setup before installing any non-genuine OS, so I did disable that. My laptop is working fine, but all of a sudden it started to do random mouse freezes, surprisingly pressing ALT+F4 works like a charm to make mouse work again (by mouse I mean pointer actually, I'm using Touchpad, i don't think its a h/w related issue)I think may be it's because any virus/malware or whatever that was, and also I was planning to change my OS to Windows 8 (it's after 10-11 month of purchase date), so I decided to format anyway, instead messing up with mouse freeze problem. Now strange thing happen at this point -I'm not able to start my BIOS setup, nor able to use quick boot option (to select various bootable device option from list)I try to press recovery key (small button near power button), that open recovery module properly (no glitch/error).but unfortunately I don't have any backup made previously so no use of recovery module.and then I restart my laptop, then I press F2, it shows the first screen of BIOS menu, but my system stuck there (unresponsive state), i've no option else directly turning it off by holding power key for few seconds,..and then no boot menu F2, F12 still unresponsive.means whenever i open recovery module it able to ... Hi envolt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that G580 is not entering the BIOS menu and hanging at BIOS menu it at all it enters it, performing flee power should resolve the issue; below are is the step to perform Flee Power.

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer and enter BIOS menu.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance this is the only available option to get this query resolved, Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number, I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Hello Everyone, Its a much discussed yet embarassing problem. I have a G580 with intel i3 processor. The machine is quite old (5 years i think) and has been subject to various OS upgrades, changes, flashes, dual boots systems like ubuntu & windows. Recently to upgrade the machine i bought an i7 processor (yes it is compatible, i checked the hardware manuals). Once installed  the display wont come on, i figured i needed a BIOS update. Thats where the terrible stuff started. I tried using the BIOS update tool downloaded from the official lenovo website with windows 10. As soon as i launched it, the command prompt like window opened and my computer froze. That happned a few times. Figuring, it might resolve itself I left it alone for 3 hours but it was still frozen. Also figuring that the tool is for windows 7 i ran it on compatibility mode. Still the same result. I read on some forum a guy had the same issue and it was resolved by reverting to windows 7. So i bought a new copy of windows 7 (yes i really want that i7 processor). Installed it and tried to run the tool. Still, it froze the minute the window opened (another 3 hour gesticulation time was given to he machine to unfreeze itself but in vain). So i tried to access the bios to see if there was a supervisor password preventing me from entering. Thats when i discovered that i could nnot access the bios at all. Ive attached some screenshots in the end to explain. Startup... Read more

Hello, The Problem:Recently I installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS  to my HDD in UEFI mode. Soon I found out that I could not access the BIOS using F2, but F12 allowed selection of boot device. Reinstalling Windows, I found out that the boot menu still had the Ubuntu entry and I still could not access the BIOS. I searched on the web for a solution and before I could manage to find a proper one, I managed to delete both the ubuntu and windows boot manager boot entries, still locked out of bios. This time I could not boot into any OS, could not access bios using f2 nor access boot menu using f12.  The Solution:There was one last hope, during boot I noticed that PXE (Boot via ethernet option was still showing).Note: This solution requires you to update the BIOS. This is a very risky procedure, so proceed with caution. This will also probably void your warranty. If you can access boot menu (F12) and want to regain access to the BIOS (F2), boot into Windows 7. Install a bios update for your laptop (specifically for your laptop) available at The Lenovo Support Site. The oldest BIOS (probably for Windows 7) is preffered. If you donot have access to windows 7, perform step 2 and boot into the created ISO by creating a bootable CD or pendrive. Then goto step 11.If you can't access F12 and F2, cannot boot into OS, but can boot via Ethernet (there should be a message about trying Atheros Ethernet PXE Boot during startup), start from step 1. My rule of thumb with BIOS updates is "if it is not broke, do not try to fix it" because there is always an inherent risk that a BIOS update can fail, and if so, leave  the system bricked (dead) requirnig a new motherboard, and there does not appear to be anything in the latest updates readme.txt other than specific fixes for Windows 8.1... So I would hold off. Summary of changes

Hi

I got a new Lenovo G580 laptop which did not come with any pre-installed OS. I installed Ubuntu in UEFI mode (I had not disabled UEFI/Secure Boot). Later I installed Windows 7. During installation it asked me to format the entire format as it did not recognize the GPT partition. Accordingly without thinking twice I erased the entire HDD and installed Windows 7. Now I am unable to enter into BIOS

Things I have tried:
Tried with F2, F1 and Delete keys while booting
Tried removing the battery and booting while pressing the above keys individually
Tried removing the battery and adapter, held the power button for 1 minute
Tried removing the battery and held the power button for 1 minute while the adapter was plugged in
Tried pressing F12 and going to the APP MENU but I can only see "Diagnostic Splash" Nothing else and in that diagnostic splash screen I see that the System BIOS is "shadowed"
How can i gain access to BIOS so I can disable UEFI and install Win 7 and Ubuntu side by side

A:Lenovo G580 20157 bios 62cn97ww update problem

hi adarsh_savant,

I think you may have concern in this thread,
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G580-Bios-update-problem/m-p/1199186/highlight...

Here the suggested solution from neokenchi that helped.

1. Boot into the BIOS by repeatedly tapping F2 on startup

2. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy then press F10 to save and exit. When
the computer reboots, check if you still get the errors and/or if you're able to boot into Windows.

3. If same problem, leave the changes that you made on Step 2 and attempt to re-install Windows via a Windows 8 recovery drive or OneKey Recovery button (note that this will wipe the computer to factory settings)

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

It took about 6 hours and a bunch of Russian-language websites to solve this one. This is for people who have spent hours and hours trying to bring their dead or bricked Lenovos back to life after a failed BIOS update. 1. Get on a working computer and forget everything you read about making a bootable USB with Crisis tool, you don't need one. 2. Format your USB (16GB or smaller) to FAT32. 3. Download the latest BIOS from the Lenovo website. Currently that link is here:https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g580... 4. Now we're going to need to open Command Prompt. Hold Windows key+R, type "cmd", click OK. 5. Type without quotes in the box "cd C:\Users\<Your user folder name>\Downloads" and press Enter key 6. Then type without quotes "62cn97ww_32.exe /ext" and press enter (If your file has a different name, adjust accordingly) 7. You'll see about 4 files appear. The one you want will be called "62cn97ww_32.cap". Rename the .cap file to "BIOS.cap" and copy this file to your formatted USB stick. 8. Make sure your dead laptop is switched off. Plug in your USB stick into a USB 2.0 port (NOT the USB 3.0 ports). Hold down Fn+R, then while holding press the power key and keep it held down untiil something happens. If successful, your laptop screen will light up, a DOS screen will appear and the BIOS will flash itself. If it doesn't work, the laptop will immediately switch ... Read more

Dear sir,I bought a Lenovo G580 [59337032] laptop about a month ago.It had no OS installed. I installed Fedora 17 in it.But after installing Fedora, I can't be able to access the BIOS setup menu by pressing F2.And also my boot order rearranged. While pressing F12 during boot, the boot devices list appears. But the first entry is Fedora, 2nd is Ethernet, 3rd is HDD, 4th is DVD drive.I found a similar problem in this forum. But the solution [disconnect the HDD and press F2 during boot]of that problem did not work in my case. I also deleted the recovery partion of lenovo. My BIOS version is 62CN34WW How can I fix my BIOS? Now my OS is Windows7.

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

A:T460p BIOS update fails; "The BIOS does not match this system"

Call support.  Whatever happens, you should get the issue documented while the system is under warranty.  In U.S., the number is 1-800-426-7378

Hi, HP Support Assistant shows there is a BIOS update available for my HP 15 laptop (F.28Ap1). But even though everything seems to run fine, the BIOS is still showing the old BIOS version, F.23. I have also tried running the BIOS update .exe file directly on my laptop. And even though the update looks like it runs successfully, the reboot that happens from running the .exe takes the normal amount of time as any other normal reboot, and the BIOS version is not changed. Current BIOS version: Insyde F.23, 08/05/2015Current OS version: Win 10 Home 64-bit (Version 1511; OS Build 10586, 494) Attempted BIOS updates:-----------------------------1) F.25        sp73235.exe2) F.28        sp76361.exe Neither of the BIOS update .exe files I've listed above are updating my BIOS version, when I run them, and my BIOS version remains at F.23, even though both .exe files appear to run successfully, except that the reboot time takes the same amount of time as usual, suggesting that during the reboot, nothing is being done to try to update the FW in the flash. Thanks!

A:BIOS Update Fails on HP 15

The latest BIOS version available for your notebook is actually version F.29 (Rev A). You can download it from this link. I would download/save that file to your computer.  Then, before you run it I would suggest performing a hard reset: To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.Once you've done the hard reset, update the BIOS by running the file you downloaded earlier.  Once the BIOS update is complete, check to see if it shows the new version (you can see this in the System Information utility).

I am running Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise Edition on HP Elite 8300 PC. I went to BIOS settings and enabled Secure Boot option, saved the settings and did exit. After that my screen remains totally blank. I tried to restore BIOS to its default settings by unplugging all the accessories, even hard disks. Remove the power cord and pressed the power button for 5 seconds as suggested by HP support page. Then restarted the computer, pressed F10 few times, waited 5 seconds, pressed F5, pressed enter and pressed F10 again and pressed enter. I still couldn't see anything. I have tried it several times. Please help me about the next troubleshooting option

A:BIOS Reset Fails

Hi: The next troubleshooting step would be to shut down and unplug the PC. Remove everything connected to it. Open the case and find the little yellow CMOS reset button on the motherboard. Usually it is located near the coin cell battery. Press and hold that button for about 20 - 30 seconds. Hook everything back up and hopefully, you will be good to go.

I have an E Machines Desktop which fails to boot to bios. In fact, apart from a PSU fan and power light on the case front it does not seem to do anything. I have replaced the PSU but no change. I have also removed and replaced the button cell. Still no joy. Any clues anyone? Incidently, the screen works on another machine so it is not video.

A:Fails to boot to BIOS - not PSU

Well, it leaves a few thousand components to choose from, few of which are able to be changed.

Disconnect everything apart from the video and RAM.

If it makes BIOS (and complains about no operating system) you will be getting closer.

If it does not, then consider a motherboard or CPU fault.

well currently,i left my pc on,no problems have happened with it b4,i leave it on like every night and restart it 4-5 times a day, well,my computer stars up,shows the dell sign, then it go to blank screen and has like a white line like its gonna write something but never does and just sits there and never boots up

got any solution how to fix? it never happened b4 till today

A:BIOS starts then fails

check the PSU with a PSU tester or a known, working PSU. Or your CMOS battery is dead. Could also be bad or failed ram if you're not getting any boot at all. Do you have any BIOS beeps? Consult my guide if you do.

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Thanks,
Jim
