Is it possible to assign photos as Icons to individual files?

Q: Is it possible to assign photos as Icons to individual files?

I work with autistic children and i have a bunch of VBscripts set up to say things through the speakers like "I want juice". I was wonder it it was possible to associate a photo with these files so when they are viewed as thumbnails you would see a picture of a Juice box. Other scripts would be "I want cookie" or "I want Toy".

Below is an example of the script i have in a notepad with .vbs extension:

Dim Message, sapi
message="I Want Juice"
Set sapi=Createobject("sapi.spvoice")

Preferred Solution: Is it possible to assign photos as Icons to individual files?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Is it possible to assign photos as Icons to individual files?

Hi Daysaved, welcome to TSF.

You need to re-size the photo to about 20x20 pixels, or any standard icon resolution.
Save the file as .ico

You can now right click your file, go to 'Properties'. Under the 'shortcut' tab click 'Change Icon'. Browse to your newly created .ico file and select it.

This should work for all types of files.

If it finds errors it cannot fix, be sure to run it several times as needed.

A:Adding icons to individual desktop

Unfortunately, I've only seen the option to save on one user's desktop on my Vista laptop, not on my XP computer.

To get rid of them, you can right-click the icon and click 'Delete'. This won't affect your husband's desktop, nor will it uninstall the game.

Hope that eases your frustration.

Have done a search and could not see a definite answer to this.

I would like to change a couple of individual folder icons in W7. However, I do not want it to effect and be the default icon for the whole system , just an individual icon for one folder alone. The others can just stay as they are now with the standard W7 icon.

Is there any way to do that without causing problems with the default icon used by all other folders.

Any advice appreciated :-)

A:Change individual folder icons

Open file properties; ( Right Click on the file ), click on "Customize", and then "Change Icon". Choose the icon you want to use.

HI, I've lurked this forum for some time already, but now that I had some specific doubt I decided to Sign in
I wanted to change the icon for WAV files, so I did so by modifying the right icon in Wmploc.dll, using Resource Hacker.
The thing is, when you swipe a icon, he actually swipe a group of Icons. In this case, 6 icons of different sizes:

What I would like to know is if there's a way to change only two icons of this group (the ones signed with the name 722 and 723). So, I can have another icon with better readability on those small sizes.

Hope someone knows a way to get there. Thanks.

A:Individual icon swipe from a Icons Group?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I've personally never used resource hacker but it would seem doing it like that you'd need 2 separate files to add to those two entries ?
Scaling never works very well in any graphic's program I would usually just export as and save it to the sizes I wanted. in a icon's case I'd have 6 separate files in those sizes.
Then save that file to a .ico file type,
Cheers.

Where can I get specific individual .dll files? How difficult is it to update a .dll file?

I have been downloading and running various .dll repair programs that claim to fix everything. Unfortunately, none of these programs have fixed or replaced the .dll files my System File Checker lists as corrupted and not reprojectable.

I am looking fo these specific files used by Windows Defender in Windows 7:

MpEvMsg.dll.mui
MsMpRes.dll.mui
MpAsDesc.dll.mui

I have never manually installed a .dll file, but I learn quickly and know how to follow directions. Can someone point me to a "how-to" instruction list for replacing corrupted .dll files? Is it a relatively simple task once I have good .dll files? I would rather not have to pay $200 to someone like the Best Buy Geek Squad just to make what hopefully are minor system changes. Any advice is appreciated.

You can extract them from the win 7 install media,

Extract Files from Windows 7 Installation DVD

If you don't have one you can download one here,

I just used 7-Zip and found those files in the install.wim, you have to grab the right folder once inside but it's all explained in the tutorial.

Libraries are virtual folders not virtual files so to answer your question, no. Instead maybe use a symbolic link (made with mklink with the command line) and link the file in a certain folder. Or just put it in a folder already set to the library.

I'd like to do this with each disc its own titles, etc. I don't want to do this via iTunes, which every online website gives as the way to do this. I also don't want them in one large file. I have played around with the backup functionality; I know how to backup a system image. What I cannot figure out is how to backup individual files; when I configure the backup and drilling down into the folders, the individual files are not shown.

In XP, I backup my Outlook .pst every day (I work from home so this is important). I had a NTBACKUP job set that would backup only the .pst file every day...no problem to set up.

When trying to configure W7 backup I can drill down to C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook but the only thing that's shown in the Outlook checkbox window is "Accounts."

The .pst is not in Accounts, it's in the root of the Outlook folder.

How can I configure the backup utility to be more granular? Thanks for the help.

However, little mischievous people may go into this if I am not on my computer and be a pain. Therefore, I want a way of protecting it from opening up in it's main application.

A:CD shows data, but not individual picture files

Welcome to the TSG forum.

Photographers own the rights to print the pictures .. And usually don't give you the readable Images that the camera took.
They probably have proprietary software to read the pictures ..
The discs you can't read are probably what you'd take to get them printed.
The images you can see .. Are low resolution copies that probably won't make good prints ..For previews only.

They don't want you to print them yourself or have anyone else do it ..They want to charge you.
What's the extension (file type) of the data files in the Disc that you can't view ???

+backups for my primary hd
+tv shows
+movies
+program installers
+personal movie collection used for editting
I have found that certain files cause windows explorer to crash - be they movies, tv shows, installer files, files on backup, etc. - when highlighted and cause Dr. Watson to go bonkers. There seems to be no connection: files with similar sources, extensions, sizes, use dates, names, pathnames, etc. seem to work fine. In all there are just over 20,000 files, of which maybe 30 cause this problem. It is possible in transfers they were just simply improperly transferred (causing pieces of the file to be lost forever), but there is a file I KNOW that happened to and Dr. Watson never went bonkers and Explorer never crashed when I selected it; it was an .avi of "Beetlejuice" whose transfer was terminated before completion, and all it does when selected is simply not play in WMP. This might be covered somewhere. I looked, but honestly, I'm not sure what the search term would be.

I've got a Vista laptop that was backed up with an on-line service (Carbonite). The hard drive failed and has been replaced. I did a restoration to factory settings and installed Microsoft Office, Mozilla, and Thunderbird the primary apps on the laptop.

Then I started a full restore. Primarily, the backup data includes everything in the c:\Users folders. It doesn't do Program Files unless you specify it. In this case, the backup is all the user files.

So, when I did the rebuild, I created a generic admin account. When I restored files, it restored the user files from the backup. So the drive looked like this:
C:\Users\Original UserName
C:\Users\GenericUserName

Then, I created a new admin account with the original user name and logged onto that account.

As you might guess, Vista created a NEW user folder C:\Users\Original UserName.PCName (just like a domain, local user account)

So, how am I supposed to logon to the original UserName account? How do I assign all the files under C:\Users\Original UserName to the user with the same name?

Once done, can I delete the other accounts and user folders?

While it's nice to get the data back, one of the major reasons for the backup is to recover all of the program settings/data like e-mail configs and such.

I've learned that logic has nothing to do with Vista, but my logic would say, finish restoring all the files and then s... Read more

Is there a faster way to password-protect folders than the ones I already know, such as AxCrypt or putting in a zip with 7Zip? I have a lot of huge files and it would take too long.

I do NOT need powerful encryption for these particular files. No hacker is ever going to get them; it's only to keep out my roommates who use my account on my computer. For various reasons setting up separate accounts is not an option.

I"m wondering if there's some way that's not as secure as AxCrypt because that's overkill for me but would still add a password and do it quicker.

A:Faster way to password-protect individual files/folders

I have installed software that can encrypt/ decrypt individual files/ folders or multiple files/ folders. It's pretty easy to use via drag/ drop folders/ files that you want to encrypt (accepts multiples) or select via right click context menu.

Right click a file/ folder to encrypt/ decryptDrag 'n' Drop multiples to encrypt/ decryptEncryted files have .pcr extensionIf you use the main program window to decrypt files or multiple files it totally and permanently removes encryption and restores the default file extension.

If you decrypt via click and open - you are asked for a password to open the file and it remains encrypted when you close the file.

A:How do I delete individual files created by system protection?

Hello Bhootnat, and welcome to Seven Forums.

A restore point is different than a backup. You will not be able to delete a specific file included in a restore point. Any attempt to mess with a restore point like that would most likely end with the restore point no longer able to be selected to be used when doing a system restore.

Instead, you could only delete specific restore points if you like.

I don't know...but there is no reason fool around with the Windows configuration,  Google reflects http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html .

Any data files can simply be moved to another location...anytime that you desire.  Just because a file initially may be reflected in My Docs, etc...is no reason for it to permanently remain there.

I want to open some files like myfilename.ad4.

But...........I have Adobe reader installed.

Adobe reader appears to define itself as the application to load these files (ad?).

I have my security permissions as both administrator and only user set to allow almost anything.

I have an application (Airport Design Editor) which WILL open these files, but I browse, find, and then
cannot fix the application to replace the Adobe program.

Thoughts?

My question is similar. I'm new to Win7-64. I want to back up the entire system but will System Image Restore allow me to identify and restore individual files? Win7's normal back up function does that, but it doesn't save the OS and programs.

Thanks

A:System Image Recovery allow me to identify & restore individual files?

Hello Mark, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sorry, but when doing a System Image Recovery, you will not be able to pick and choose individual files and folders. It's an all or none deal.

However, you could use the tutorial below to manaully extract individual files and folders from within the system image if you like.System Image - Extract Files Using Disk Management
Hope this helps,

My bookmarks are a huge mess. When I used IE, I would go to the folder on the drive to organize them. Now that I use Firefox, I can't do that. I would like to find a program that gives me ease of organizing and will export the bookmarks as individual files, instead of one.

I'm interested in this: http://bkm.sourceforge.net/en/vbbkm.html but it's old and dead I think. Also I don't think it worked with Firefox.

I'm not interested in online managers and I don't have a real need for portability. I just want to sort and burn the folder.

Thanks.

What I'm running into is a problem trying to add a handler for any file to the context menu. I add a key to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell and add a key to that as command. What happens is, instead of just running the program with filename as param, I get a dialog "always use this program for this file type" with a checkbox checked, or "keep using blah blah"

If I uncheck the box and hit Enter, nothing happens. So I can't run an "all files" handler without assigning it to every file type I happen to open with it. I'm sure the registry is a big mess.

What did they change since Windows Seven? I don't get it.

Nevermind. It's easier to put the program in the SendTo Menu. Someme extra clicks to launch but ...

NEVER MIND PLEASE DISREGARD I HAVE GOTTEN IT BACK TO SEEING PREVIEWS AGAIN - NOT SURE HOW IT GOT CHANGED BUT ANYWAY - *FIXED* wish all of life would straighten out that fast.   But it probably would not have had I not posted here - I am a strong believer in Murphy's Law and similar unspoken  "Rules of Engagement"

In Settings you Must Choose between Thumbnail or Icon - I don't know which is which - all I know is that I have always had my settings to show a preview of the picture - for some reason - and I don't know if this has anything to do with it - I just updated my Firefox and coincidentally enough all I get with my photos is a symbol instead of being able to see what the picture is of.

I have tried everything I can think of in Windows 8.1 to change that but am having no luck which means I have to remember what I named the photo to find it.

Can somebody tell me how to get my a preview instead of a little symbol for my photos please?

Thx.

I always have my settings so that I see an actual preview of the picture instead of just a symbol.

Hello all,
I am fairly new to macros and am looking to split a large word document into smaller files based on a text string within the document, and then save those files as individual word documents, or as a bonus, PDF documents. The text string is "HEADER DATA".

Basically, I want the macro to find the text string "HEADER DATA", then select that page and all pages up to but not including the next instance of "HEADER DATA", then cut those pages from the original document, create a new document with the same formatting/ page layout, and save that document with a new file name. I want the process repeated until the end of the document, and each file saved with a new file name.

Some attributes about the file:

The text string "HEADER DATA" is always in the same location on a page, but is not at the top of the page.
The format and layout of the new document must match the current document.

Here is something I came up with (don't laugh too hard, lol). This will extract the first pages as intended, and saves the new file, but then Word stops responding. I don't quite know what the error is. Thank you in advance for any help.

After I installed Vista Home Premium my photos and icons all appear stretched wider horzontally, photos make everyone appear short and fat. Tech support for my laptop company Averatec charges $60 for half hour of toll support they say can fix it but it seems to high a price for tech support. My Pixals are 1024 x 768 32bit

Any tips of how I can adjust the video viewing or whatever it takes to make view normal as it it did when I had Windows XP in it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dear Wonderful People at Tech Support Guy.com,

Having some very bad problems with my comp! I hope you can help! All I remember was I clicked on a job link from Snagajob (of all places!) and my comp went haywire. These are the issues:

1. Most all of my desktop icons suddenly disappeared. When I tried to re-add them (with the same name) it wouldn't let me because it said they already existed. So I had to re-add them with a "!" on the end so it would allow it.

2. ALL of my favorites are gone. Not even the folder names remain.

3. When I use IE - it just closes down - like wham gone! Sometimes several times in a row.

4. About 1/2 of my photos have disappeared! Odd because the (right click) properties show the: type, location, size/bytes/and how many files it contains but I can't view them yet I know they are there as it shows the info. I did send one of the entire missing photo folders (zipped) to my boyfriend and he was able to open the folder and view ALL of the pictures! I backed up the rest I can view for now.

5. If I Google anything and click on the links - I am redirected!! Urgh.

I read and followed your directions as best I could. Hope I did it right! The report & logs are below. Please let me know if you need anymore info or I didn't do something correctly and need it. I wasn't sure about the last requested log - the ark.text file. Seemed short?

I thank you in advance for any help you may offer to help save my comp and my mind... Read more
