Thinkpad S1 Yoga 20CD Stuck screen off and Power LED on after Lenovo Bios Update Ran

Q: Thinkpad S1 Yoga 20CD Stuck screen off and Power LED on after Lenovo Bios Update Ran

My S1 Yoga, 20CD-00B1US, is stuck with the screen off and the power LED stuck on. When I try to push or hold the power button it beeps two short beeps and the LED stays solid. I was running the Lenovo Bios Update Software directly from their site. The power cord was plugged in and no other programs were running (aside from background programs). Now it is just stuck like this. Any thoughts or help would be great. I can't even get it to force shut off. Thank you in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Lenovo Yoga 20CD will not power on after shut down yesterday. When I plug in charger the red dot above the "i" blinks three times. I have removed battery, held power for five seconds and put battery back in, no change

A:Thinkpad S1 Yoga 20CD will not power on

I'm facing the same issue. Suddenly it won't power on. Only LED indicator blinks when plugging in the power supply; and the LED turns on for a few seconds without plugging in the power supply. Beside that nothing happens. Any clue how to solve this? I've checked the connectors but they look ok. I've also tried resetting via "reset button" on the backside. further I've tried several sequences pushing the power button and holding it for 30 - 60 seconds. So far nothing helped. Any clue? Thanks.

After running updates the computer will no longer POST.Turning on power only boot cycles (turns on for 3 seconds, turns off, turns on etc.), screen is black, no POST.Possibly a BIOS update fail? Need to spend a grand to get a new MB?? Tried removing the battery, drain power, use only power cord. No luck.

A:After update ThinkPad Yoga, 20CD cannot POST!

I wish they would stop pushing BIOS updates other than at the request and guidance of support, they seem to fail too often and brick far too many systems.       You can usually perform a Boot Block Recovery on modern motherboards, but I do not think Lenovo has implemented that technology on their laptops for security reasons, but you might still check with Lenovo Support to see if they have any options short of replacing the system board.  BTW:   Does your system have the emergency reset hole on the back side of the case, and if so have you tried unplugging it from the power supply, and then pressing it for about 10 seconds or so?  (see item #1 on page 46 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual) Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40a26742_01.pdf

Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

Hi,i have Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (LENOVO 20HD0002MC) and recently has started a strange problem:While booting at first Lenovo logo shows up (where you can get to BIOS by Enter key) and right after screen goes black. When i power down laptop and boot again (sometime few times) intead of the black screen there is a prompt for Bios password, like it should have and booting continues to OS.Enter key for BIOS doesnt work while it slill get stuck on black screen just right before it loads the BIOS (after trying few times with power -off/on it gets to BIOS and i can boot normally)I have BIOS firmware updated to the latest version, so as well drivers for hardware.Im not aware of any change that could potentionally start this issue, maybe after updating bios to some newer version.Otherwise im using Windows 10 with latest updates, but i dont think this could cause the issue as its way before windows loading. Thanks for the help.

System Specifications:- X1 Yoga (Gen 3) with i7-8650U and 16GB RAM- BIOS Version: 1.19- EC Version: 1.08 Hello, exactly one week ago, I changed enabled "Thunderbolt BIOS Assist" in the BIOS to support Linux.  Following this, the system refused to boot to anything but a black screen.  Thus, I sent the machine in for depot repair.  I just received the machine back again today and the same thing occurred after enabling the same setting.  After a long series of calls, I was told that no one is authorized to report BIOS bugs and that I should post here instead.  I sincerely hope this is fixed, as this is a major error that required a motherboard replacement previously and will most likely require one again.  I have started a new ticket for this repair and will be receiving a box tomorrow.  However, I wanted to make sure this is passed along to someone who can fix this error.

Long story short, i erased everything and performed a clean install of Windows 10 64bit and the computer stopped shutting down or go into sleep mode. I had Windows 8.1 64bit, i upgraded it to Windows 10 about a year ago, when it first came out. The upgrade went almost fine, some bit issue with the OS but nothing serious, so i went on till i decided, to correct those little issues, to perform a clean install.  So i downloaded the media creation tool, the version with the anniversary update, and erased everything, but keeping the recovery partition. After the install, i started having troubles with entering sleeping mode or shutting down the laptop.I installed the power management driver i found on the site (n1cku04w). With that I can shut down even if it strangely blinks a few times before shutting down. I can enter sleep mode and wake it up properly if I do it from the start menu, but if i close the laptop or try using the power button takes me to a state where OS is sleeping and HW is still awake, so i can't do anything apart from force it off. Strangely too, the driver on the site is overriden from another version i recieve from System Update app. But, with the version from System Update app, i can't even shut it down properly, the OS dies but the HW is still awake and fully functioning leading me to kill it pressing the Power Button. Anybody have faced the same issue? Hey! Got myself a brand new Yoga 910 and installed the latest BIOS update to fix the fan noise issue: http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/d... However, immediately after installing the update, the screen started having graphical glitching issues with artifacts flickering on the screen all the time. For example, if I'm on my desktop, I have the Trashcan and Spotify icon at the top of my desktop, and I will see "ghosts" of these icons flickering over the lower half of the screen. I tried updating the graphics driver to the latest version but it didn't help: http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/D... The graphical artifacts that flicker on the screen seem to be based on what content I have on the screen currently. The computer was fine when I got it. My exact process has been: Getting the computer, everything is fineRunning Windows UpdateUsing the computer, everything is fineDownloading and installing latest BIOS updateNoticing flickering which never was there before the BIOS updateRestarting computerInstalling Intel DriverRestarting Computer But it's still flickering all the time. Needless to say this makes the laptop unusable.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi guys, I have no idea what's happening with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (it's about 3.5 years old, its warranty just expired). Every time I reboot, I get this weird message saying "Configuration changed, please reboot the machine...". I then proceed to reboot the machine and everything works but the bios options are always resetted! This makes the laptop extremely unusable for me as I always swap the fn/ctrl keys so that I don't have to learn a new keyboard every time I switch computers. If I go back and change the option, it works fine, but the next reboot it does the same message again and I have to reconfigure the bios at EVERY boot. I'm lucky this option is the only one I changed, otherwise someone that would have changed the boot order/graphics settings/passwords etc. would be in a much worst situation than me...At first this seemed like a typical bios battery being out of juice so that the config can't stay saved, but I've now changed the bios battery twice with new ones and this doesn't change anything... It's been working perfectly for 3 years but now it just suddenly stopped working for that reason (by not working I mean the bios that keeps resetting itself, I can still boot to my main OS just fine after). If anybody has any suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. I thought about flashing the bios but afaik it's the latest one, and anyway as I'm only running GNU/Linux I can't run the .exe tool to update it (off-topic but please lenovo have another way to u... Hi Everyone! I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 and recently I am experiencing a rather serious problem with the machine. If I have a drive in it, it will simply not start the booting process and will freeze on the "press enter to interrupt..." screen. Whenever I remove the disk (SSD) the computer starts and I can access BIOS/Diagnostics/Etc. but when reinserting the SSD everything stops and the computer freezes on start. This problem is very annoying because without a proper boot I cannot update the BIOS or do anything with it at all. Did anyone else experience something similiar?I checked the SSD in a different computer and it works without a problem.

Hanging on startup with a disk inserted would most likely indicate either a bad SSD or a bad SATA control circuit (motherboard).  If the disk is OK, that leaves only one part.

I started the update from within the Lenovo maintenance system with 90% battery and AC plugged in. Today no change and i can power off the system with the button but can't force it to boot. The laptop had been working perfectly before this misguided bios update. The system is out of warranty. Is there any possibility of recovering the old bios or any other recovery method?

I have a TP S1 Yoga (Model 20CDCTo1WW) running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I utilize it mostly at work and have it hooked up to a Thinkpad Onlink Pro Dock.  I use the dock to run two external monitors, for connecting to our network (through an ethernet cable) and utilize the USB ports on the front/back to hook up a wireless keyboard/mouse, for powering my phone and for thumbdrives.  I had the problem of the Onelink having port "flapping" issues (network would disconnect and connect at random times) as discussed elsewhere in these forums.  The solution that I found was to update the bios.

I proceeded to attempt to update the bios (which I had not done since I purchased it in January 2014).  The current bios version is: GQET32WW (1.12), 1/22/2014.  I downloaded the TP Yoga bios update utility for Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Version 1.18.  I read the README and then ran the utility.  It installed the utility software to a location on the local drive ("c:" ) and then proceeded.  I went through the setup screens, selecting the "Update ThinkPad BIOS" clicking through a few more text boxes (with the warning about not powering off, keeping it plugged in, etc) until it asked to reboot. I clicked OK to reboot, which it did.  This is the next thinkg I seen on the screen:

I have tried multiple time to install the Thinkpad BIOS UPdate - 7/8 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64].
I follow instructions to plug-in and close all programs.
The installing bars will not complete past 91%. There is a prompt that asks to pick Thinkpad or Model Number. When I click Thinkpad and NEXT the computer SHUTS DOWN immediately (right after warning not to shut down or damage may occur). The computer screen goes black and 3 ominous beeps repeated 3 or 4 times sound. When I restart my computer nothing has updated.

I am unable to complete the Critical Update after trying 4 or 5 times. (Tried downloading and deferring install and the same thing occurred.)

(In tandem, I'm getting numerous STOPCODE errors from Microsoft after updating with the Fall Creators update. Not sure if it's related. I've had a variety of problems since the Fall Creators update and was hoping the BIOS update might clear things up.)

Any advice?

Few months back I got a Lenovo ThinkPad P40, it has been working just fine untill the latest BIOS update from Lenovo Companion (R05ET72W 1.50).  Since I use it for work, it is connected to power all the time. I have disabled Sleep & hibernation when plugged-in. When I leave the workstation, I usually just lock the machine (Win + L), so that I can access the laptop from home.  After the latest BIOS update, when I get back to work in the morning, ThinkPad does not wake up no mater what button I press. Opening the lid, shows a black screen, does not respond to anything. The red light on the "ThinkPad" logo is lit.  All I can do is hold the power button for 5 sec and re-power. This is horrible, as it will sonner or later corrupt my Windows installation.  I've had to do this now 3 days in a row, after the BIOS update.  I've updated all drivers and ran Windows 10 update. This sounds a lot like a prior thread about porblems with BIOS 1.08, but that thread ended up marked as solved, while for me the issue returned on the latest BIOS update to 1.12. My CPU temp got up to 92C without the fan coming on. Conclusion: there still seems to be some kind of condition where the BIOS completely disables all cooling. I think it's the same problem as that earlier thread, and it's clearly not solved. Thankfully it IS possible to get out of this state by rolling back the BIOS version to the one that worked, instructions are posted here and three posts below that for further clarification.  Symptoms: you start noticing that the TPY gets oddly hot during normal use, or it experiences a forced shutdown due to overheating. It's also completely quiet. But: the fan itself is operational because you hear it briefly spin up during cold boot.  Given that LoneSentry mentioned that the problematic BIOS 1.08 did work on second install, there seems to be some 'random' glitch in the update process or in the BIOS. Meanwhile I'm pretty unhappy that I'm having to do continued truobleshooting on this machine.   Edit: going to the BIOS update page I saw that a newer BIOS was available (1.13), which you can install without having to disable Secure Rollback. Lo and behold. the fan is working again. The fan started blowing full speed right at the start of the EC flashing procedure. This is NO... Read more

Hi all, I've been reading tonnes of threads here trying to solve my problems (which seem to keep getting worse) to no avail. I'm reaching out to anyone that can suggest some help before I end up bricking my yoga by accident or running it over on purpose. I had some spare time at home and decided to download and install my free upgrade to Windows 10. I backed up all of my important documents etc to OneDrive as I intended on performing a clean install. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to support.lenovo.com and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. I haven't seen any topics that seem to quite replicate the specific problem I have, so here I am.Without warning, the screen of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e tablet-notebook will turn black. It appears to be an "active" black rather than the screen turning wholly off. The rest of the computer is working normally during these times: audio carries on, keyboard and mouse input function, and nothing else seems to shut down or turn off. Keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen input causes the screen to return to normal briefly, but the only way to make it stop happening for sure is to restart the computer. I don't think it's connected to sleep functions, given that it happens while I'm actively using the computer.I don't know exactly why this happens, but it usually happens after long periods of use. At least once it has happened within an hour or so of being turned on for the first time that day, but I had a great deal of Chrome tabs open and that may have been similarly taxing. While this problem is not exactly disastrous, it is pretty annoying and well outside the acceptable boundaries of computer behavior, especially for a device I have had for only a few months. I would greatly appreciate help in rectifying this problem.

I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction, as replacing a screen is far cheaper than buying a new laptop. cheers!

I have ben dealing with problems with this touch screen since I got the laptop.  It has been continuously ghosting, while it got better after the June update, it still ghosts without touches, until you start using the touch screen.  When using the touch screen it starts drawing gray lines in between the point im touching and the point its ghosting to (the lines arent always direct). I recently wiped my the drive, reimaged to a backup from april and tried reupdating it.  When I got to the touch screen drivers, I got through the initial setup and told it to open the update when finished but the machine froze.  Now when I try to reinstall, I get to the finish page on the update tools install, have it open the updater, but the program immediately closes.Any help would be much appreciated.

hello.  When I restart the computer after a Hibernate (Windows 10) the computer sometime the computer stall at the Lenovo boot screen.  I updated all the firmware and software available in Companion. There is a reason for that ?

A:ThinkPad P70 is stuck at Lenovo logo screen after Hibernate

Do you have the latest BIOS?

Do you authenticate through a domain controller?  Where is network boot in the boot order?
