Secure Socket Tunneling Error 1717

Q: Secure Socket Tunneling Error 1717

Hi! I don't know if this is specifically a Vista problem or not, so I am posting here.

Here is where I am at:

I am trying to get my XBox to share my laptop's internet connection. I know that this is possible because I have done it before, from this very laptop, with this very Vista os on it. Now, I am unable to checkmark "Allow other users..." for sharing etc. I get the error that Internet Connection Sharing failed because "the dependency service or group failed to start."

Well I found out that it was dependent on the service "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager", so I tried to start that. (It is also dependent on Telephony, but that is running). Same error. I find out that THAT is dependent on "Remote Access Connection Manager". When I try to start THAT, I get the same error. It is dependent on "Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol Service", which is not dependent on anything. When I try to get THAT service to start, I always get the error 1717: Interface is unknown.

I have been trying for 3 days to fix this. I am ready to throw Vista out of the Window & reinstall XP, seriously. The only suggested solution I have found so far is to do a clean start-up. I have done this, & am still not able to get these certain services running. These are my last-ditch efforts, & then Vista is gone for good for me. I have done wayyyy too much troubleshooting on this os. I have been searching & searching & there are no definite answers out there for this problem, just unanswered questions.

If you can help, I'd be very grateful...not to mention impressed!

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am on Windows Vista Home Basic, 32-bit, SP2. I need to start the Internet Connection Sharing service, which is dependent on the Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol service, but SSTP can't be started. When I try to manually start it, it gives me
Error 1722: The RPC server is unavailable.
The SSTP service doesn't list any dependencies, however RPC and RPC locator are active. What am I missing?

That message 99.9% of the time is telling you that your ISP E-Mail server is down for some reason.
Wouldn't be concerned about it unless it happens quite often and then you should be calling the ISP to ask what is up with the E-Mail server!!

I use Netscape 4.7. I'm having a minor problem with e-mail at HOTMAIL.COM, and one of the troubleshooting suggestions was to be sure I had Secure Socket Layer turned on.

This option can be found at Edit > Preferences > Mail & Newsgroups > Mail Servers. The verbatim description is "Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages" with three (3) choices: Never, If Possible, and Always.

What is SSL, its purpose, function and how does it work?

What does TLS stand for?

How does TLS differ from SSL?

When using a program called paltalk, I am unable to upload or download .jpeg files. I get a message that says "socket error on non socket". I am able to view video in this program, but am unable to send or receive pictures. I properly opened the correct ports on the router homepage. I am hooked to the net via a Lynksys router. Any suggestions? Is this a hardware problem or a software problem? haven't seen it before. Thanks.

Hi jake21 The Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter is used to convert IPv4 communications to IPv6. It's normal for the device to show as not working (Code 10). You don't have to worry about it since you most likely don't use it. You can ignore that warning.

Looking at the error on the internet, suggested fixes are installing malwarebyte and do a deep scan (Malware)??? and if that does not fix it, it suggests a registry "hack" Is this a result of malware?? or something elso.

The teredo tunneling adapter in windows 7 has error code 10 .
To get rid of this error, I followed instructions #8 of “microsoft teredo tunneling adapter has a driver problem”
However in my case it did not get rid of the error, instead it got rid of teredo tunneling adapter.
When I manually reinstated Teredo, the same error code 10 reappeared.
What can I do?

PS.The reason I want to have teredo working is that I cannot use Easy Connect in windows 7 (it is greyed out) I do not think that the router is the culprit, because my windows 8.1 laptop can use Easy Connect

After purchasing my computer with Windows 7 installed (April 1st), I got a PC shop to transfer my stuff from my old XP machine. Shortly after, I tried to backup my PC using the Windows program but it failed several times and Device Manager had a yellow exclamation mark at Network adapters - Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter. Updating and uninstalling have both failed. Under Properties - Device status it states - This device cannot start (Code 10).

I'm also experiencing numerous blue screens with Event Viewer displaying Kernal-power under Critical. I've run System File Checker tool (SFC) several times with one success which helped, but which have failed since. Also having constant browser crashes.

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Now I read a TON of web pages prior to posting so please make sure to read what I have tried before posting a thought on the fix -

I tried everything on this KB - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813514 except OE reinstall because this is a PC that has OE integrated and to be honest I can't get the account info if I have to wipe it and reload it for another week (but it has to be fixed now)

Hi, I have looked at all the different discussion threads and tried almost every single suggestion made but still have'nt had any luck so far.
I can receive email but can't send any. What triggered this error is that, I recently moved from London to New York and I am now using a different ISP to connect to the internet. But my old setting should work (since it has worked in the past when I logged in from hotel or other locations using different ISPs.)

I have tried changing the port numbers etc, but I keep getting back this error message.

"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account: 'O2 Email', Server: 'smtp.o2.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Socket error 10065 from Outlook Express
Hi, for the last few days we have been receiving "The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Joint French', Server: 'pop.orange.fr', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E" from Outlook Express.

I have :
- run a full Norton system scan - no viruses found
- run a disc cleanup via Start programs, accessories, system tools, disc cleanup
- run a Norton registry cleanup - same problem
- tried uninstalling Outlook and then found a posting that says you cant physically uninstall and reinstall outlook

Google chrome is working ok and I can get to the messages via Chrome but am having no luck getting outlook to send and receive mail.

Internet search implies it may be a broekn registry entry but is there a recommended registry cleanup took and/or can you suggest anything else I can try?

Much appreciated

A:Solved: Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Just for completeness - I found the cause of the error was nothing to do with ports. We use an application called Peerblock which prevent our PC sending information to third parties (telecoms companies, educations institutions, etc.) This uses lists from www.iblocklist.com and one list in particular (the bogon list) would seem to contain an IP address which conflicts with a combination of Orange.fr and Outlook express requirements and so prevents Outlook working.

I keep receiving Windows Socket Error 10055. It happens sparatically, but two things that I've noticed it happens with is while running:

Replay-Radio 6
nzb-o-matic

The error occurs even when those aren't running (but replay-radio is usually running in the background). I just uninstalled the program after receiving a TRSDKd error.

In addition to that error, I have been receiving Application Errors for various programs. It usually goes like this:

The instruction at "0x012220a7" referenced memory at "0x01260b30". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program

Then it closes down something that I didn't even know was running.

I am unable to send through my msn account; which is a drag to forward something that came in that mailbox. I get the error: Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E. This error does not happen when I am forwarding or sending in one of my other email addresses. The solution that I have seen posted states it is a problem when you have "call waiting" on your line. Since my puter is on the same cable as my phone, I need to have phone usage, call waiting, and puter use all at the same time. This has been an on and off issue since Windows Live took over my old Outlook Express. Without moving messages from the msn account to another email, is there a better way?

A:Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E usually means there is a problem connecting to the server or the connection is timing out.
You can try to ping your SMTP server.
Go to start - run - type "ping MSN smtp SERVER" (where MSN smtp SERVER is your smtp server you are using in outlook express for your MSN account).
Let me know if you get a reply or not.

Your firewall (if you have one) might also be interfering? Try turning them off temporarily.
You might be using the wrong port to send emails?
Lastly you have to authenticate to the SMTP server and you might not be doing that?

The socket.ocx file seems to be used by an application triggered at the startup of your computer, more likely an application that tries to perform a network connection.

Before I ask this question I should say I haven't set up the network yet. The network will really be secondary to internet sharing. We are going to get cable internet and an smc barricade router to split between 2 computers so I guess that will also make them on a network.

We have an old Scrabble version 1 game and under network setup it asks for broadcast socket and game socket numbers. When I searched on the internet on how to find the values all it says is programming code in either java or linux, i'm not sure, on how to set them or get them if you're making a game over the internet. I'm not trying to do anything that complicated. I found a program and a site that determines what your IP address and port number are I'm just wondering if there's a way to determine those socket numbers too by running a program from the start menu or searching somewhere on the computer.

thank you,

I bought an old Dell Optiplex 380 system refurbished from Dell for about $80 with an E7500 Intel core 2 duo processor and upgraded it to a Xeon E5430 for about $20. The cpu benchmark went from about 1800 to 4000. The Dell Optiplex 380 uses DDR3 memory, so the Xeon gets an additional boost there. I also downloaded a modded Dell bios that supports the Xeon functions on the 775 motherboard at bios-mods forums for free. Great little computer to play older games in Windows 7. Next I will be updating this system to Windows 10. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium OEM installed by Dell.

So for little cost you can play around with older hardware and make it do things it wasn't originally designed for.

Apologies if someone has already answered this but I have a problem that started recently.

I have Norton Internet Security 2006 installed on a Windows XP Home SP 2 PC. I'm using Outlook Express to read e-mail.

Until recently, no problems.

However, these days, when I open OE, I get a socket error 10061 trying to access my POP3 mail server. If I reboot the machine and re-log into windows, the error goes away. as soon as I log off and then log back in, the error is back.

I've restarted my machine in safe mode with networking and have not been able to reproduce the problem under those conditions.

At this point in time, I suspect something with Norton. I did do a recent LiveUpdate session in which a number of Norton items were updated.

Does anyone have any input on this? What can I do to resolve this (Norton Support portal on their website was no help)?

As mentioned in the topic description, I cannot download state tax forms or update to federal forms. Get error that an "unknown socket error" occurred, but I am still able to connect to the internet using other programs. I have tried disabling firewalls and changin virus programs, to no avail. Naturally the tax folks cannot help with PC problems, they just give a phone number to call if have IRS tax-realted issues. Any guidance appreciated.

Just thought I'd post this as a help to those who may run into this problem. Had a customer who simply could not get on the internet (running XP with cable connection). Here's what I did in an attempt to solve the issue, all to no avail:

1. Uninstalled all garbage applications in Add/Remove programs
2. Ran Adaware 6.181 (found lots o'baloney)
3. Installed and ran Antivir antivirus; found Worm/Sorbig.A
4. Ran Spybot S&D (found even MORE junk)
5. Deleted all temp files on comp.

At my wits end, called his cable provider. We first completely unplugged his modem, then attempted "ipconfiig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This is the error received:

Operation Was Attempted on something that is not a Socket

Tech guy on other end said to look at MICROSOFT KNOWLEDGE BASE ARTICLE 318584 for the fix. I have to return to the customer's location today, but essentially it involves a Winsock error in XP, and that's what's causing the "no internet" problem. So remember that 318584 KB article the next time you run into this.

A:(FYI) Operation...Not a Socket Error

Uh, well, no, this did NOT fix the problem. After spending several hours going round and round with Adaware, Spybot and Hijack This, along with several alledged XP TCP/IP fixes posted in several different locations here, we've decided on a clean install of XP. Ya know, it's just too bad that Windows doesn't let you uninstall then reinstall TCP/IP. Would probably save a lot o' headaches.

Seems like off and on the last week or so, I've had problems with Outlook Express hanging.
I use AVG...and right now when checking e-mail it timed out so I stopped Outlook Express, but I see the AVG e-mail scanner icon is still going around on the desktop.
Sometimes the mail hangs up in transmission, it seems, even if no attachments.
Then today I got the socket error 10061.

A:Socket Error: 10061

Socket error 10061 is a Connection Refused error sent to you by the server. You could not make a connection because the target machine actively refused it. The most common cause is a misconfigured server, full server, or incorrect Port specified by the client.

Try to change your SMTP port from 25 to 587.

I am getting this error in IncrediMail. Socket Error: 10061 , Port: 25, Protocol: SMTP.No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Because my Internet company won't support it I installed Outlook Express. I get the same error. I can received email but can't send. I have tried updating every thing, removed Zone Alarm and miscellaneous software. Any ideas?

A:Socket error in IncrediMail.

Do you have the correct outgoing server specified? Do you have the correct port specified (usually 25, but could be different)?
