Installing XP on a Vista Laptop (Amilo pi bs035)

Q: Installing XP on a Vista Laptop (Amilo pi bs035)

I've looked through the forums to find ways of installing XP on my laptop as it has SATA drives.

The one that looked the best was to create my own installation CD, I installed Klite, ripped my XP SP2 CD, added the drivers from C:\DRIVER\SATA\INTEL. Burnt a bootable ISO. I thought this would be the end of my problems. Unfortunately the installation still doesn't recognise the drive.

Does anyone have any Idea what I should be doing differently?

Preferred Solution: Installing XP on a Vista Laptop (Amilo pi bs035)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

You have to have XP drivers for the SATA drive. Go to the site of your motherboard and find the XP SATA drivers specific for your board. There may be a number of drivers included in a download package for a number of similiar chipsets, but you must choose the driver specific for YOUR chipset.

That is the driver you need to include in your nLite CD, and you have to add the driver in the TEXTMODE section of the nLite build.

Good morning. Greetings from Cape Town

I have been using new 160 GB 2.5 IDE WD Scorpio Laptop Hard Drive 160 2.5" in an external USB caddy while I have been sorting out the programmes and data on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo LI 1720.

The hard drive has been working well and I now want to install in the laptop to replace the existing 80GB WD Scorpio hard drive.

I've checked through all the necessary steps to be taken to physically change the drive and have used WD's Lifeguard to partition the drive as well as copy the boot information and programme files.

The one point which I'm not clear on and which I hope somebody can help with an answer is: How do I get Windows XP to recognise the new drive as the C:\ drive so that the programme settings and registry are retained ?

At the moment using the 160GB on a USB port Windows recognises it as either F:\ or G:\ and I seem to remember from some time ago that Windows will not allow a change of name or path for the system boot drive.

Is there a simple solution or do I have to start from a completely new Windows installation ?

Hope you can help.

Best wishes

A:Installing new hard drive on FSC Amilo LI 1720 laptop

You may have great difficulty doing this... Windows XP is controlling, and it may detect the hard drive as an install moved from one computer to another, and shut down as part of the Microsoft Anti-piracy security.
If it does that, you will not get it to do anything using a restore or recovery disc set. You need to install it as a new install after saving all the data to a cd or flash drive.

Just thought I'd share this as it took me while to locate everything to do this.

This applies to a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 2528 - you can probably figure out how to get the correct drivers for other Amilo models from this information.

Installing Windows 7 onto an Amilo requires SATA drivers to enable the installation process to see the hard drives - otherwise you wont see any at all.

When installing, you are given the option to browse for the correct drivers, and if you put the correct drivers onto a USB flash drive - either before installation, or during (using another computer) you can locate them during the install and you'll then be able to see the hard disks, and choose where you want to install to.

I previously posted this in an Amilo forum, so I'll just c&p it here:

I found the correct drivers here:

I downloaded this particular file (this was the only one with Win7 in the title - although there was one called Win7 eSata, but that's for external sata drives):

Unzipped it all onto a USB flash drive, then when W7 installation asked where to browse to, I browsed to this directory on the USB stick:

I don't know if all of this information will apply to every Xi2528 model but it works for me, and I hope it works for you too.

I've also made the zip file available here, for your convenience:

Thank you so much Curt.

You saved my laptop from reboot loop hell. While attempting to upgrade to 7 it failed and the MS remedies would not work as the Repair function couldn't see any of the hard drives ... until i used the drivers you posted.

d) When I change set up to read CD drive first still does nothing
e) Downloaded recovery disks from internet but laptop doesnt read them - work fine on PC
f) tried removing battery for 30 mins and pressing F keys to no avail
g) Manufacturer no help (Fujitsu Siemens) - want Ģ50 for a recovery disk when we didt get one and bought laptop from new.
h) no vital info on laptop

Been trying for 3 days now to get it sorted but cant seem to get any further

Anyone got any ideas of what else I can do?????

Hey all!
Ive been having some trouble with my video card.
Ive had this laptop for over a year now and its been working great.
Allthough about two weeks ago I formated it and I have been installing fresh operating system and software on it now for some days.

But when I tried to run Counter strike: Source the fps had droped from a steady 50fps to below 20fps.
Not fun!

So now I have been buting my arse of finding new stuff and drivers to clean the computer and all that s*** but nothing happens.
So I found this great place

Now I am wondering a few things since I am very new to tweaking my system and increasing its performance.

Some quotes and questions:

"I have flashed GeForce with 39.60 rom and it went without a problem (this is a must for any Amilo 3438 / 4438 owner)."

What does this mean and how do I do it?
"Or you might have vsync set to on in control panel. Set it to application preference in order to achieve best performance."

Same again, what does that mean and how do I do it?

"Amilo M3438G, 1,73GHz/512MB upgraded to x1800 (stock settings)"

What does the last part mean (upgraded to x1800)?

There is so much that I dont know how to do and I dont know what is wrong.
Sorry for my incompetense...itas hard beeing a nebie.
So to all you AmiloM3438G users here...
What did you do to upgrade you laptop?
And how do you do that?

I inherited an old xi3650 fujitsu laptop with the super spec [twin hdds , 18.4 hires screen, blueray, bluetooth, wireless, multi card reader HDMI remote control etc etc ]which is running superbly on win 10
Unfortunately it has an intermittent problem of a dark screen i.e. back lights turning off
I have stripped the beast and checked all connections and narrowed the cause to the magnetic lid sensor switch being sticky but does anyone know
Where it is sited ?[The small strong magnet is in the lid behind the screen bezel so I presume the switch will be mounted on the main board where the magnet meets the speaker trim panel]
Is t a magnetic reed switch?
What is specification ?
Could it be disconnected or short circuited [Is it normally open or closed]
How do I get at it ?
Is it possible to degauss insitu?

For some reason known only to themselves FS have decided that to gain access to wireless internet on their Amilo laptops (I have an Li2735) you have to turn it on via Fn + F1, it is not automatic.
I have got around this using a .vbs file which runs via Startup (actual file is in Prog Files with a shortcut to it in Startup). Basically the .vbs file runs automatically and conects up the wireless without the need to use Fn+F1.
The .vbs file content is as follows:

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Set oExec = WshShell.Exec("C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\WisWBSet.exe")
do while WshShell.AppActivate("Wireless Status Option")=False
WScript.Sleep 100
WScript.Sleep 100

My question is this, on occasions this runs fine and the wireless hooks up no problem, the GUI displays momentarily then disappears. On most occasions though the GUI hangs and I have to manually select WLAN then click to connect.
Any advice on how to stop this happening? I thought maybe it has something to do with when Startup actually runs in the start up sequence but don't know how to check this or alter it.

When I tried booting my laptop, it signals that Windows has failed and gives me two options: 'launch repair' or 'normal startup'. The latter brings me back to the Window failed position. The former proceeds to show 'windows is loading files' which then goes to a blue screen (maybe what you call BSOD) that shows 'Fujitsu Siemens Computers Recovery'. After that I have the option to 1. Backup recovery default setting or 2. Restore default setting which, of course, would erase all my data.

Since I never backed up my factory default () I insert a dvd and choose the first option which brings me back just there. I've looked at reviews on this laptop and saw a complaint about it's inability to boot from this point. I want to purchase the recovery disk for Windows for this laptop to boot and gain access to my data but I'm afraid it may be a waste as the laptop may not boot from the disk.

I've found this site that sells the recovery disk: http://www.user-guides.co.uk/download/amilo/amilopi/amilo-pi-2515-bios-repair.html (option 5- Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515 Data Recovery Windows 7 XP Vista). I want to purchase it but I don't want to waste 20GBP if it fails to boot.

Please advise me.

Hello guys, I got my Amilo Pro (Fujitsu Siements) v3515 laptop 1 or 2 years ago with Windows XP (SP2, non-genuine) installed on it (without getting any kind of CD/DVD) + all the drivers needed for my laptop!

I got a modem on my PC which has also wireless internet and connected it to my laptop also. Everything went well until I got a "genuine remover" since I got that stupid "You may be a victim of software enc...".
After I re-booted my computer AVG detected the whole Windows as being a virus...
I had to format the hard disk and install a new Windows (Windows XP Corporate Edition SP3).
Now I don't have any of drivers for my laptop.. (such as the Wireless internet icon at the taskbar) or sound card driver or video card driver etc.

I really need them and I tried lots of things but didn't work.

Please guys help me, I don't want to pay anyone to do that for me because I know I can do it by myself!

Thanks in advantage

Try going into safe mode. If that works then your laptop display setting is set to a too high resolution. Certain LCD external monitors won't handle beyond 1024x768.

This is an absolute mess.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, '07. Last year it crashed completely, and would not restart. There are no restore disks, as this computer was given to me. It was stored in the attic over the fall/winter.
I decided to see if I could get the thing working. I tried several things, including running Ubuntu off of a live USB, nothing worked.
I went ahead and installed XP from a disk I have from an old desktop. I have completely erased and formatted the C and D drives.
XP is installed, but I got an error during the installation: 0x80070428. Also, the audio system does not work (as an example, Win. Mv. Mkr. crashes because it has "determined that the computer does not contain the audio hardware necessary for it to work"), and when I try to install a program I get the message "the procedure entry point DecodePointer could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"
Could someone help me get this computer usable, even if it is just a digital typewriter?
Thank you very much.

A:Installing XP on a Vista laptop

There is no point trying to fix the broken XP installation. The installation failed to complete properly given that you got that error during installation.
Install and format all over again and see if XP installs successfully this time.
You could also consider Linux Mint 17: http://linuxmint.com/  But I don't know if your cpu supports that.

i have an Ei system 3103, also known as a uniwill L51II3 which is running ridiculously slow with vista as the OS.
when i run the xp disk from dead, it loads the setup all the way up until it says at the bottom "Starting windows" at which point i get an error screen saying there is a problem at an address 00000000 or something similar
i have looked into this all over the internet and have been told i have a SATA hdd, and xp doesn't have the drivers to read the disc and so cannot install.
it then goes on to say i must download the scsi/raid drivers for my motherboard (hannstar j mv-4) and when i run the xp setup, press F6 when prompted to install scsi/raid drivers.
i have tried this and it turns out it will only read from a floppy drive, which most laptops/computers do not have anymore.
does anyone know a way i can install these drivers (im not even sure i have found the right ones), or if thee is a way around this so i can put xp on my machine. its been stressing me out for weeks now.

I have a Gateway M6319 laptop that originally came with Vista installed. Naturally, I want to "downgrade" to XP, but I'm running into the "No disk found" error when booting from the XP CD-ROM. I've read threads (here and on other forums) detailing advice on how to load the SATA drivers necessary to install XP, but they all call for using a floppy - no floppy on the laptop. I found a thread here with a link to a utility called nLite, but when I try to download it, I get a warning from my AV software (Norton 2011) that the website has been ID'd as malicious.

Anybody have any advice for me?

Should I trust the nLite site or Norton?

Is there another way to get the SATA drivers onto the laptop so that I can install XP? (No, there is no option in the BIOS setup to use SATA...)

A:Installing XP on a Vista laptop?

Before you even start to downgrade, you need to make certain that there are drivers available. Unlike desktop hardware, some laptop hardware can be VERY model-specific. If the manufacturer didn't pay someone to make an XP driver for a certain component (say for example the sound card), and that component is not being used on any other hardware (or another manufacturer) that has drivers for XP, then there are NO drivers.

So, first question is, does the manufacturer support XP, and have all drivers available. If yes, then your good. If not, then you have to go hunting for drivers from either other models (same manufacturer) or even other manufacturers. If that fails, then you hope someone has created a custom driver for the hardware and made it available.

I've dealt with several people that have jumped feet-first into doing a downgrade, assumed that the drivers would be there when they got ready to install them, then discovered that they are NOT, and they are stuck with a wiped Vista Operating System, and a half-finished XP O/S that will never be completed. A lot of effort for no pay-off.

There are various "support" areas on the internet where you can find groups of people sharing information on specific models of laptops. I'd check around for those first, to make certain the drivers are available for your laptop.

nLite is safe, and an easy way to slipstream SATA drivers into an XP installation disk. Some people claim to be able to "F6" t... Read more

You can NOT use a OEM version from another computer, as it is illegal and does NOT have the required drivers for the new computer.
You will need to BUY a retail copy and then get ALL drivers for you new machine.

Why don't you just try and learn to like Vista as I believe that you will like it once you learn how it runs.

Hi, I'm helping a friend who just bought a new laptop which has Win Vista installed. The stats are as follows:

Processor Brand: Intel
Processor Class: Pentium Dual-Core
Processor Number: T2060
Processor Speed: 1.6 GHz
Front Side Bus: 533 MHz
Mobile Technology: Other
L2 Cache Size: 1 MB
System Chipset: Intel 943GML Express
Memory Speed: PC2-4200 (533MHz)
Memory Type: DDR2-SDRAM
Installed Memory: 1 GB
Maximum Memory: 4 GB
Memory Slots Total: 2
Hard Drive Capacity: 120 GB

I'm thinking of installing Win XP so its familiar to him, and also installing the Office programs.

My question is, is it better to just wipe out the Vista partition and install XP, or give him the dual boot option? If you suggest the dual boot option, how would you recommend going about doing this?

Posting your computer specs always helps when troubleshooting a problem. Is your Vista 32 or 64?

One suggestion would be to:

Insert the CD but do not install from Autoplay, if given a chance, tell it to "Explore" it, when you see the executable, right click on it and "Run as Administrator".

If that does help, your printer may not support Vista or you may need to update your printer drivers to Vista drivers.

I am not sure if I should post this in the video card forum or the Vista so I will try here.

I have a copy of Vista business collecting dust and I want to install it on laptop because I enjoy Vista very much. I used the upgrade advisor for Vista and it said " Your computer can run windows Vista!"

however it also lists things that will not work:
RADEON IGP 345M ATI Technologies Inc. This device will not work in Windows Vista. For more information, please go to the device manufacturer's website, Windows Marketplace, or contact your retailer.

It also says I might have trouble with my ATI graphics accelerator and I beleive its the most recent software and driver available for this model

And because it is a laptop I just cant go in and change the ATI video card
that is soldered in. Here are the specs

Compaq Presario 2500 series
Category Action Required Explanation
CPU No action required Your computer's CPU is Intel? Pentium? 4 CPU 2.40GHz
System memory (RAM) No action required Your computer has 1.00 GB of RAM.
DVD drive No action required Your computer can read DVDs.

I am not wanting to use Vista for all the cool graphics features or Aero or anything fancy. I just want to use the basic platform or the OS

Any suggestions?

A:Installing Vista business on my laptop ?

Hi KHPower

I imagine if you aren't expecting to do any gaming on that laptop ... Vista will be fine. Certainly standard Office programs will run fine, and most multimedia will play OK. For others' experiences trying Vista with laptops that have your same graphics, here are a few links to peruse --- http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vi...o-support.html ---

I've seen conflicting reports as to whether there is built-in support for your ATi chip in Vista. Evidently, in earlier builds there wasn't, but it seems that in the final version, there is. But since it's an "orphaned" chip (ATi has discontinued any support for it), that built-in Vista driver is going to be it --- unless you move to unofficial, modified drivers created by ATi enthusiasts (which are actually often quite workable). I don't believe that the "Aero Glass" display will be possible with that older chip - but that's not a great loss for day-to-day office programs, multimedia viewing, and Internet.

Here's a discussion (scroll down in the thread to the posts by "Randomness") of using modified Catalyst 6.4 drivers .. with your graphics chip on Vista ... my link joins the discussion starting in late 2005, but the thread goes on to include discussions from as recently as yesterday. Here's the link --- http://www.driverheaven.net/mobility...-there-22.html

I have an HP pavilion Vista laptop that works, but screen is dead and I want to part it out. I took the 80g SATA HDD out and tried to put it in my other HP pavilion Vista laptop. I want to format the new HDD and use it for mass storage. I put it in and run Computer Manager-Disk Manager, and it does not show up. The new HDD also is not seen by the BIOS. Both laptops are 32bit Vista laptops. The HDD still works and boots up in the old broken laptop, using a desktop monitor, so there is nothing wrong with the HDD.

Can someone explain to me what I'm missing?

Hi, i dont know if this has already been asked but, I'm having a serious problem with my Dell Inspirion 1300. Its severely slow and i want to install XP on it but once i load the XP CD, a blue screen appears saying that Windows has shut down to prevent damage. Its happened to me more than once.

The blue screen says:

windows has been shut down to prevent further damage to your computer.
If this is first time resstart . if not follow steps:

Check if you have adequate disk space - which i do, i have 20gb free.

disable driver, try changing vid adapters

check for bios updates, disable bios mem options.

then theres some code at the bottom under "technical information".

I'd be greatful if anybody knew a solution to my problem. Thanks

My brother has a Dell laptop that came pre-loaded with Vista. He asked me to remove it and install XP for him. I've re-installed XP on several computers but I'm stuck here.

When I boot from my XP disk, I press enter to install a new copy of XP, but then it says it cannot find a hard drive and setup cannot continue.

I'm not looking to do a dual OS install. Just wanna make this XP only. Am I missing a step here that I'm not familiar with?

A:laptop wont restart or shut down after installing vista

Sounds like you have a process that is hanging it. Try running task manager and see what is still running. Also try scanning for malware or a virus this could happen too.

so when i put the disk in my disk drive, it will make a sound like it is reading it, but then it will suddenly stop. If i go to "my computer" and click it the window will say "not responding" and the program "my computer" freezes and i either have to wait for the program to end or restart my computer. I have all the requirements for sims 2 to install so why does it never work?
i 147 GB of free space and it said that it was compatible with vista. is it a problem with my computer itself?

A:I am having problems installing sims 2 on my windows vista laptop?

Is the Disk damaged, as in scratched or dusty in any way? Also refer to http://forums.techguy.org/games/287910-common-sims-2-problems.html

I have an Asus EeePC 1000H which comes with Windows XP installed on one of the two partitions on its hard drive. It has always worked fine. Recently I installed Windows Vista Business on the other partition, and updated the drivers. Everything works fine (I even get a Windows Experience Index of 3.0 :P) except that now when I sleep the computer it never wakes up if I do it in Vista, and sometimes doesn't wake up if I do it in XP (as I can choose which operating system to run). Another problem I have is that I turn the laptop on (either after reboot from failed sleep or just normal use) and it won't boot up. In both cases it looks the same - that is, the lights all turn on, but the monitor doesn't and it emits less noise than normal. I don't know if it's having trouble starting up a piece of hardware? But I don't know, it's odd it happened when I installed Vista. Any help will be appreciated.

I've been working on this 5 hours; have been speaking with **** support for 3 hours; with the only option being fee based service if no one here can help.

I have the above web cam. Installed as directed with CD first, then Cam installed. The camera is never recognized, but if I skip over, it does recognize my voice so speaker works.

On the Logitech webpage, they say that I need to install DirectX 9 or above to install the software for the camera. **** says that I have DirectX 9 pre-installed and that version 10is not yet availabe for Vista.

I have installed and reinstalled 3 times and tried numerous patches with the **** support, but nothing is any different.

Any ideas out there?

Oh, yes, and I did the thing with the enabling some kind of certificate, etc. for problems with DirectX 9. Didn't help.

Thank you so much for anything.

I'm trying to install XP on a new hard drive I bought, it's hooked up to an external hard drive docking station to my laptop that already has Vista installed on it.

Is this even possible, I've allready fomatted the drive and it's ready to be written to. I tried changing the boot order of the external drive to the first in the list, hoping I could just have my XP cd in when it tries to boot off the blank drive but it doesn't do anything.

Any suggestions?

Have been trying to install XP Home on an Acer Aspire 4730Z which came with Vista 32-bit operating system as a standard.

I have been trying to install XP Home SP2, I get as far as being able to boot from the CD at startup, then once the installation has finished booting and loading files, it suddenly blue-screens.

The code on the blue screen I get is the following:

Anyone able to tell me what is going wrong? Or another way I can install XP rather than Vista on this laptop?

I have experienced a lot of problems when I first attempted to install XP on on my laptop which came with windows vista preloaded. I somehow managed to setup dual boot.

The problem then was to find the right drives for me dell XPS m1330 laptop. Dell would not support for XP.

So what did I do? I wrote two posts on my blog with step by step procedures to:

1. install XP on a vista laptop
2. XP drivers for Dell XPS m1330

According to FS hp, my Amilo pa 3553 don't support Win 7, but according to windows hp, i'm fully supported with my laptop.
But I still have some issues with my wireless onboard adapter and some keys on my keyboard.
Windows can locate and see i have a wireless internet adapter installed, but i'm unable to turn it on, how can that be so? I'm using my cable for the internet now.

2nd problem, all of the keys does'nt work on my laptop, some of the shortcuts, when using the "fn"-key does'nt work. Ex, using the "fn"-key to adjust brightness, turn up/down the wolume does'nt work, but turning on the onboard webcam work... what am I missing???

Plz help.

Stay with the previous OS you have if it dose not say it supports it and your are having trouble its not worth mucking around with it.

hi, i have been given an FS Amilo li1705 notebook running vista home basic, to look at with the following symptoms:
no sound - no sound device detected even though I have tried to re-install the drivers.
error message: "the system could not find the environment option that was entered" whenever a system type exe is run (or attempted to run should I say). Cannot system restore for above reason, cannot see contents of data partition, have run 2 portable antivirus scanners that returned nothing. AVG will not run at all (is on the pc), so I am thinking that it is a virus. Even tried to boot from CDRom, won't have it. Seem to be pretty limited as to what I can do.

Managed to get HJT to run but not in administrator mode, hosts file is locked (again making me think of a virus).

do not know what the next step is - it looks to me like there is a lot of stuff in th elog that looks suspicious, but as it's notmine I don't know what has been loaded on.

Thanks for any pointers!!
