I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How can I enable stealth mode on my netgear router?

I think you are referring to turning off SSID broadcast which will be on the wireless set up page.

This would prevent casual users from seeing the routers wireless signal although there are still plenty of ways around this.

The setting is listed under Getting Started with Netgear Genie which is #2 under contents, page 27 shows where the setting is in the link below.

http://documentation.netgear.com/wnr...usermanual.pdf

You just need to uncheck where it says Enable SSID Broadcast.

ok i setup a mimo netgear router. all the settings are pretty much factor settings. but the range isn't good enough to reach one of the rooms in a huge house. so i bought the wpn802 access point because i know it has repeater mode. i spent 5 hours and could not get the damn thing to work. the closest i ever got was i was able to log into the router and under attached devices see the access point but no IP was being assigned to it. ive tried almost everything i can think of. the obvious: i made sure both units were on the same ip for instance router is 192.168.1.1 and the repeater is 192.168.1.231 or whatever and i also made sure both SSID matched. other than that there are not many other options in the access point you can change. does anyone have any experience with these things. all i want is for the access point to extend the range of the netgear mimo router.

Hi All,

I recently put in a Netgear firewall, configured it, its running no problem. Then I setup a new Netgear N600 wireless router, configured it, gave it a static IP, connected to it, works like a charm. Thing is, when I try to access the web gui I receive nothing.. Is the Netgear firewall taking priority or something? I went directly connected to the netgear wifi router and double checked to make sure that there was no settings restricting administration from wifi users, etc.. Anyone have a similar setup ?

Thanks All

A:Netgear FVS318G FW & Netgear N600 wifi router Can't access webgui

You sure been busy! Have "seen" you all over this place.

Is the FVS318G router connected to the N600 router's WAN port or a LAN port?

If WAN have you changed one of the routers so that they don't both use the same LAN subnet (I didn't check each one, but they probably both default to the same).

If LAN have you disabled the N600's Dhcp server?

Should be easy!....
But I cannot get my NEW Netgear N600 router to communicate with a NEW Netgear WN 3000 RP extender.

The instructions say to press the WPS button on the extender then the WPS button on the router. No WPS button exists on the router!

The instructions also I can use any wireless network manager utility to set this up. Can't find where this is in Windows 7.

The I pad has found the NETGEAR_EXT address but won't connect. And the light on the extender does no indicate teh router is communicating with it.

Thought this process would be a simple plug and play, but...frustration!

to use for for data sharing between my PCs same network...  the Netgear can see its own USB HD, but will not share/show, it on my PCs.  The old Linksys worked fine before.
Hooked up old Cisco and now it does not SEE the shared/router HD to Map.
Have tried Wireless, Wired, both routers and still Windows 7 can not see to map.

Both routers SEE the USB HD but neither PC/Laptop can.
Have turned off, Firewall, no Antivirus, etc.

Is it a OS issue?  Was working on the Linksys before I switch to the Netgear,  Both PCs mapped to the Linksys USB HD.
Nothing wrong with HD as directly attached to my desktop and now sharing the desktop so can see the HD now but prefer SHARING by mapping.

Anyone?

This comes from the Random Forum. I noticed someone said how their computer is stealthed. So I asked how I could do that, they said to look for a free firewall like Zone Alarm. I have Zone Alarm, but my computer still fails the test at http://scan.sygate.com/prestealthscan.html (it says my IP, not "blocked") So am I doing something wrong in ZA, or is there some other free program that I could download that'll stealth my computer. I'm very interested, I never knew about any of this.

They log your ip to do the test . Below it is the port scan results which should say " blocked " .If you mean your address on the top , it`s fine.

Hello everyone!
Can anyone help me. I want a software that itself runs in stealth mode when windows starts up and it has the option to run one or more than one application like torrent or anyother application in stealth mode also with windows start up.. so that user can't see that some other application is running in hidden mode. Thanks in advance.

A:Run application in Stealth Mode

not that im aware of,
bitorrent has the ability to have its taskbar and systems tray icons hidden from view.
using the boss key in options/ prefrences/general
i wouldn't use the boss key password as it can mess up if you forget the password.
also the icons show on start up, you have to manually use the boss key shortcut you create, i use the down arrow on the keyboard. so the shortcut key becomes ctrl+alt+˜”↓ pressing the combo again shows the icons again. this wont hide the application in the task manager process but at a glance at the desktop its hidden.

forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I recently had been hijacked by coolwebsearch. A virus webdialer had been installed the first day of the intrusion. I deleted it manually. I was a bit shocked when i saw that the webdialer had used similar name of my main internet dial up connection (the new one had -----'s after my usual account name). Usually they have unique names of their own (or not?). I didint noticed any activation of the virus webdialer that day or another day (at least not visible-audible disconnection and reestablishment of connection with different account name in the modem status)

After uses of adaware, hijackthis, and cswshredder , I think I have managed to eliminate possible trojans and unwanted stuff.

My question is :

- Does a virus webdialer (coolwebsearch for example) have the possibility to activate itself in "stealth mode", in a way that when I double click my "normal" dial-up connection, the virus webdialer secretly replaces my proper dial-up account with the VIRUS one ?

Notice : My normal dial-up account hasn't changed dial number. But could only this be a guarantee for my account integrity?
hope it wasn't too long. I am looking forward for a reply to this strange (to me) matter ...

A:Possible Webdialer Stealth mode ???

Some new things being written can actually shut themselves down to avoid detection of virus scanners so yes..

We can check to see if there are any hidden processes running however and all we need to have a look is what operating system you are using at the moment.

hi,

i have had broadband for the past few months and are in a secluded area.
i never bothered to secure my wi fi until i realised i could see the neighbours connection so i figure that they can see mine aswell!

i got a cd with the netgear router but it couldn't put security on the wi fi.

i also went onto the netgear website and it said to enter http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1 and that would bring me to the router configuration page.

i remember being on that page before when i got the broadband first but now i can't get onto it.

the only thing i can think of that is different now from then is that i forwarded the ports on the router..

any help would be appreciated!!

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

So here is my case:

SETUP:

Verizon's Westell 6100:
Modem/Router, provides 1 incoming address (provided by VZ) and provides 1 internal address (192.168.1.1).

Netgear Wireless Router WGT624 v4:
Wireless Router, accepts 192.168.1.1 and provides 10.0.0.X wired and wirelessly.

Problem:
Although Verizon's Router indicates that it is on Bridge mode, the damn thing isnt. I thought the main concept of bridging was to become practically invisible and automatically reroute all traffic to the next device, which is what I want.
I want to ultimately use the Netgear device to set all my rules and settings, instead, I have to do it on both.
For instance, Xbox Live is not working 100% properly. I can only play video games without being able to join specific games, or perform any in-game video/voice chat.

I have tried NATing the device. No luck.
I have also tried setting the Netgear device as a Wireless Base Station. Either way, I just would like to have my network ignore 1 device, and have the second one invisibly reroute all the access.

Is that possible? Could you please help?

Thanks to all!

A:Netgear Wireless Router and Westell Modem + Router = Routed Bridge failure

Well, since the "modem" is supplying a private IP address, it's obvious that it's not in bridge mode, that can only happen with a NAT layer, aka a router.

Try this solution to configure it for bridge mode, direct from Verizon: http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/highspeed/networking/setup/questionsthree/123756.htm

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

Hi everyone !

Last night I set up a home network for a friends house using a NETGEAR DG834G wireless router. The desktop is connected to the net through the ethernet cable no probs, and my laptop connects to the router wirelesly no problem in every room in the house.

Problem is my friends laptop which is a Compaq Presario (I forget model) cannot find the router. Instead it finds all the neighbour's routers ?!?!? even with the laptop sitting next to the router there is no detection. It is about one year old and running XP. On the Windows network setup it says the wireless chip on the Compaq is a Broadcom 802.116/g

I use Intel PROSet/Wireless to connect to it using my laptop, but my friends laptop has something called HP Wireless Assistant, which has basically no options other than telling you that the wireless technology is turned on.

I have turned off firewalls etc but it will not find the NETGEAR router ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

Hi,
I own a business that offers free Wi-Fi to customers. Originally I had the blue linksys wireless G router hooked up to the booster on the roof. At another location, I just got a Netgear wireless N router, and that worked way better than the linksys. So I got another Netgear router, and installed it in the first location- but I'd like to hook it up to the booster. The guy at Fry's said that the Netgear router will not hookup to the booster- I'd have to hook the Netgear to the linksys, disable something on the linksys, and then the linksys to the booster.
So, my question is, how do I do that?

Thank you very much!

After a series of computer and network failures, mostly due to electrical storms and electrical contractors, I decided to upgrade my old Netgear router to a new Netgear Wireless-N router.

I have used Network Magic to manage my networked computers and when I decided to upgrade NM, the new version didn't support my old router. So, it seemed like an all over upgrade/update was in order.

What should have been a simple process-- turn everything off, disconnect the old router, replace it with the new router, and go through the set up process (cable modem on, then router on, etc.) has turned into a mystery.

I used the Netgear startup wizard, followed step by step (more than once) and each time I got to the last part of the process, it stalled saying "No Router Found."
It was only after several unsuccessful attempts, that I decided to open my control panel and check things out. Network Connections showed my status as "connected," so I opened my browser and found that I am able to connect to the internet.

What I have not been able to do is to set up my network, network security, etc. I tried to initiate Network Magic for set up, with the same results-- "no router found."

Anyone know what I have going on here? Am I only connected through the LAN connection, perhaps?

I am using Microsoft driver for the above device. Drivers loaded ok, device manager seems to think it's fine. Device seems just fine (blue light flashing as it should). Anti-virus/external firewall (Zonealarm Exteme) etc all shut down (to find problem).
Primary ethernet connection disabled. Network and sharing Center (Change adapter settings) allows me to enable, says enabling, then enabled, however it never changes status and remains disabled.
Netgear driver (latest for win7 64 which I use) installs fine until final part 'detecting adapter' which fails - never gets there and needs to be forcefully terminated. I've removed the Netgear software entirely.
I've changed USB ports and done just about as much as I can. From a management point of view I hate windows7. To get to simple information it is far more difficult than previous OS's. As an example, I have no idea how to get my OS version number. I know
it is Windows7 64Bit Home edition but thats all I can say.
The network adapter works perfectly under XP-sp3 and this is dual-boot machine so hardware is obviously identical (apart from SSD boot for Win7 and HDD for XP).
Any help appreciated - or any questions I can answer to help me out!
Thanks, Dave.

Heres my dilemna, I have installed a netgear wireless router for me (Win2000) and a usb wireless nic card for another pc in the house, to share my internet connection. The router seems to be configured correctly, i have a cable internet connection so my router is configured for dhcp to get ip's from the cable connection my pc runs flawlessly, i also have inplace the necessary wireless security. But my issue is the other (Win98) wireless workstation, it can see my SSID on the network and my connection is reading at 65% but it doesnt seem to see the router i have the worstation configured for dhcp from the router but for some reason they dont see eachother I dont understand why? if i run ipcofig on the win98 pc i get a apipa address instead of a dhcp ip address that my router should be pushing out just like it does for my pc??? I think im missing a major step here but i cant see it...

I have a new VoIP service, and because of that, I use a Linksys Broadband RT31P2 router, included with the service. The computer which is connected to this router works perfectly fine, and so does the phone. Everything works fine, but I now want that router (Linksys) to provide wireless access to a laptop.

The problem is that the laptop is not picking up a signal from the router, and the router configuration page has no option to "send" a signal for wireless connection. I am starting to think that the Linksys Broadband RT31P2 router is not meant for wireless access, or it would have this option, and make a mention of wireless access.

Here's the product page for the router: http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=652&scid=29

I also have a Netgear WGR614v4 router, and wondering if there's something I should do with this router. I thought of connecting the Netgear router to Linksys using an Ethernet cable. Therefore, the Linksys router would be the main router, and I'd use the Netgear router as some sort of a secondary router that would give a wireless signal to the laptop. I also tried it the other way around, having the Linksys router connect to the Netgear router.

Its a bit confusing. I don't know where to go from here. If I make Netgear the main router, the computer will work, and eventhough the laptop receives the signal, it will not connect to the Internet. If I use Linksys as the main router, the computer will work, but the l... Read more

That linksys router isn't a wireless router. I've never tried hooking up two routers in serial so I can't help you there, but linksys does have a wireless router that supports VoIP that would eliminate the two router problem. The linksys model number is WRT54GP2.

ok so I'm a software junkie,I downloaded Realspy.exe 2 months ago,well its a trial version,and its in stealth mode,
i can see it in the corner, says in order to get it out of safe mode,I have to buy it,which is 50 bucks
anyway it won't run in safe mode with networking, but in Regular mode,my Avast will not run because of this keylogger,
Now I've checked every area of my © program files, looked in windows folder which I quit after a while,
ok People say Antivirus can stop it,Malawarebytes, spybot search and destroy,Anvi smart defender, ewido anti malware,
and i've used r kill and rouge killer anyway none of them helped me,I mean i found Trojans, and all kinds of critters hidden deep in the windows registry,I believe its a .dll it has to be oh and I also used Invisible Stealth Mode key logger Removal tool,by Strong Hold Security, but Everytime I used it,it installed a B.S program in my window's x86 folder under the folder Skill brains
I mean I could delete it and use the software and a different program would be under that folder,I read a txt that was in that folder,it had so much Evil Commands for the Virus to Do it was awful .anyway Running a Acer inspire I think Windws 7 x86
not that that matters, just I see people acting like that's a big deal, also sorry about the bad grammer holding son while he sleeps

Hello there!

I have a DELL Dimension 4600 series desktop computer and have bought a DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop. I also have a Netgear WPN824v2 refurbished router - hence no CD with installation wizard. Can anyone please tell me how to just plug in/connect the router to the desktop computer so that I can use the laptop wirelessly? I have Virgin Media cable broadband. I have looked at the manual on line but it seems to assume that the router is already connected to the computer, I can't even get that far!!My desktop runs on Windows XP and the laptop is Windows Vista.

A:Taken Netgear router out of box ... now what do I do?

Reset the router to factory default settings. Connect an ethernet cable between one of the LAN ports and the desktop. If necessary consult the user manual for how to configure the computer's TCP/IP properties.

Then login to the router, configure the wireless the way you want it (don't encrypt until you have a working wireless connection), and configure the WAN if necessary if you want to connect it to your modem.

Can anyone shed any light on setting up VPN from a remote PC to the office network via a netgear router?

A:VPN with netgear router

I don't know exactly what kind of info you're looking for but generally speaking:

- The client workstation uses a hardware or software "endpoint" on the client side
- Allowed users are placed in a table (the router itself, RADIUS, Active Directory, etc.) with username and password
- When an external user attempts a connection the vpn isolates the user from the internal network then checks the table to see if the username password combination is correct.
- If authenticated, the user has access to resources behind the firewall/VPN. If not authenticated, the connection is dumped.

There's a lot more going on behind the scenes....hashing algorithms, PPTP vs. IPSEC protocol, user isolation, etc. But that's a high level view.

If you'd be a bit more specific about the problem we'll try to steer you in the right direction.

Hello Everyone, I have just recently been experiencing problems with my Netgear WGR616 V6 router. I came back about a week ago from vacation and all the lights on the router were flashing. I didn't think to much about it, and just reset the cable modem and router. I reinstalled the router software and verified all the correct information. I also updated my router with some patch on the netgear website. Every time i reset the router it only lasts about half an hour. Then a message pops up at the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying. "Network Cable unplugged". This really frustrates me as i have also replaced the ethernet cord supplying the connection. I also checked to make sure the cables are plugged in correctly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I currently am running Windows XP. Someone told me the wireless card inside the tower may be malfunctioning. And they usually run cheap on newegg.com. So any suggestions or help would greatly appreciated, since i want to play Call of Duty 4 online on the ps3. Thanks

A:Help! Netgear router

update the WiFi driver.

verify that your land-line phone is NOT a 2.4ghz wireless also as it will interfere
with your WiFi connection.

If you're on the internet via DSL connection with your TelCo, then be sure ALL
phones have the filter installed as close to the wall jack as possible.

HELP!

Just got DSL today and didn't think it would be too difficult to setup.

Netgear RT314 Gateway Router and DSL modem. Modem seems to initialize and connect fine (according to the lights anyway). But when I check the router (telnet to 192.168.0.1), I am not getting an IP address from ISP - all 0's. LAN is working fine. I tried using the quick setup for this router logging on to it through my browser and also the configuration from the mananagement connection (telnet) but must be doing something wrong.
In the quick setup, here is what it asks for:
Host Name (System Name or Account name that is assigned to you by your ISP): Says this is optional. I tried entering nothing and tried entering my User Name from ISP.
Domain Name: Also said optional as should be automatically assigned by the ISP. Tried blank and with mw.centurytel.net (also tried just centurytel.net).
Encapsulation: Set to PPPoE.
Service Name: Enter the Service Name if your ISP supports multiple ISP's, otherwise leave blank. I'm really not sure on this one - I left it blank.
Username and password: entered them.
WAN IP: dynamic
DNS: get automatically or used fixed addresses. Tried automatically and tried entering them.
WAN MAC address: Factory default or Spoof this PCs MAC address. I chose to Spoof using IP of 192.168.0.2.

Am I missing something?

[oh, and the reason I haven't called my ISP is because they won't support using a router.]

Never mind for now...
I tried connecting directly through the modem and still wouldn't work. Called Tech support - Supposedly something to do with the line mappings - whatever. I was hoping my experience wouldn't be like all of the horror stories you hear just trying to get it up and running - aw well.

I think I'm fairly knowledgeable about what I'm trying to accomplish, but don't know enough to correct my problem. If you try to help me, assume I know nothing. Walk me through it.

I'm trying to get my friend to be able to play online games against me, namely Warcraft 3 and MOHAA. He is sharing his ISP access with another PC in his house. They have a Netgear WGR614v2 router, each connected to it with a Cat6 cable. I know how to set it up to open ports, I just don't know which ports to forward or what the actual IP address of his machine is.

His internet connection is fine, tested with good speed. (Comcast Cable, 3.3 d/l, 256 u/l). Since he is behind the router firewall, I assume I need to forward ports. He can join my game in WC3, but cannot start his own game due to the fact that I can't "see" his game on the server. MOHAA uses a direct connection using an IP address. Neither of us can start a game and have the other "see" the game.

1) What's the best way to determine my/his IP address?

2) Do the two machines on his router each have their own IP address? Does opening up ports on the router open them up for both PC's? ( only one wants to play online games ).

I can provide a bunch more info and answer questions on what I've tried if anyone is interested. I'm sure it's the router/firewall that is preventing us from playing, but can't figure out how to correct it.

A:Netgear Router help

Q1: If you use the site http://www.myip.com/ from a PC it will tell you the external (public) IP address.

If you use the command ipconfig/all on a PC it will tell you the privte IP address of the PC (because your are behind a NAT router all the PCs on the LAN will have this private IP address).

Q2: Yes the two machines will each have an IP address issued by the router. Determine as above.
I expect that the WGR614v2 is basically the same as my WGR614v1. In which case a specific port can only be forwarded to a single (private) IP address e.g. you could forward port 1000 to IP address 192.168.0.10. So opening up the ports on the router will only open/forward a particular port to one of the machines.

Your Warcraft 3 and MOHAA stuff should tell what ports are used. You might find http://www.netgear-support.com/ts/doc/port_applications.htm useful.
