X1 Yoga HDMI Audio not available after sleep

Q: X1 Yoga HDMI Audio not available after sleep

When my X1 Yoga, model 20FQ, turns back on from sleep, the HDMI audio is no longer listed in the playback devices. I have the latest version of the video drivers that fixes the problem when the system goes into S3 sleep, it will lose connectivity to the hdmi video port. Audio is not working after sleep, though. Does anyone else have this issue, and is there a better place to log this issue with lenovo?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys and girls, I recently got a Lenovo Y730 15" and am having some trouble with it. The most annoying thing has to be that it completely loses sleep-function whenever I connect a usb c hub to the usb c - port. Let me elaborate:After plugging it in, everything works perfectly fine; it even sleeps just fine if I hit the power-button, close the lid or select Sleep from the Start Menu. However, after waking and/or rebooting without unplugging the bloody hub, whenever I send the Laptop to sleep, it turns off only to be reactivated immediately afterwards. I tried two usb c hubs already; 1 from Inateck with both HDMI and LAN; one directly from Lenovo, with only HDMI. The laptop sleeps perfectly fine without the hub(s). It does not matter if anything is plugged into the hub or not. The message from the event-monitor is super curious btw. as it does say that "Power switch" (in German: Netzschalter) reenabled the PC, when in fact I have not touched the power switch whatsoever. All components up-to-date according to Lenovo Vantage. I'd also appreciate just anyone trying this (remember, you have to sleep once and then try to sleep a second time without un-/re-plugging the hub.

Has anyone seen the Yoga S1 output audio through the mini HDMI port?  I see it listed as a possible output in "sound", but it just says "not connected".  Not sure if it is my TV, my laptop, or the HDMI to mini HDMI cable I'm using.

Hi Brillat,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with No Audio coming from TV when connected to Lenovo Yoga S1.

Machine with discrete graphic card - just choose NVidia HD audio as playback device after connecting your display.
Machine with integrated graphic card - the trick is to go to Control Panel > Sound control panel > Right click on your TV > Select 'Set as Default Device'.  Then you should start hearing audio out from the TV speakers, and the green sound volume meter beside the TV in the Sound Control Panel should start responding to the audio you're playing.

Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I have Windows 8.1 x64 and the following:

Radeon HD5450
Samsung TV connected via HDMI to graphics card
AMD HDMI High Definition Audio Device
Realtek HD audio

I have a strange problem that has not always been there but just recently if I don't have any sounds for about 5 minutes the HDMI audio seems to go into some sort of suspended mode and when I click on (generate) a sound (either system or music etc) it takes about 30 seconds for the sound to actually appear (manifest itself) through the Samsung TV speakers.

At first I thought it might be some conflict with the Realtek HD audio so I have disabled this (mobo built-in sound) in the BIOS and uninstalled the realtek drivers. This did not help.

I then thought it was probably an update to the Sound drivers or the graphics drivers for the ATI / AMD Sound card. I have installed the latest catalyst drivers and this did not help. I then fully uninstalled the catalyst drivers including the HDMI Audio and installed an earlier version 9.2.00 from 2012. This did not help either.

I just cannot get to the bottom of it and wondered if anyone else has this issue or can help.

The only Playback Audio Device I have in the Sound settings is Digital Audio (HDMI) and I have tried disbling all audio enhancements. This did not help.

Please note that this happens even if I am using the computer (i.e. the screen can be on all of the time and it still happens after a few minutes).

No HDMI Audio via TV. Hi,  Just purchased the Yoga, but first time use of the HDMI connector is a disappointment as the sound is not coming out of the TV.  I plug the HDMI cable in and see the picture (cloned) on the TV, but the audio(system sounds and playing video) is still coming out of the Yoga. In CP/Sounds/Playback I see "Realtek High Definition Audio" as the only device (with both of the right-click "Show ..." options selected). In Devman/Sounds, A & GC I see "Realteck High Definition Audio Device" but also "Intel(R) Display Audio". Could someone who has HDMI sound working tell me whether in their CP/Sounds/Playback they see more than just the Realtek entry, eg an Intel HDMI one too perhaps? And maybe the HDMI entry is only shown when the HDMI device is connected? I have read that it is the Intel driver that does the HDMI output, is that correct? Or any other advice that might help/fix please. Cheers

Ever since I bought my Yoga 900, I have never managed to get the HD Audio passthrough over HDMI to work. I can get the compressed audio (Dolby Digital or core DTS) to bitstream out, but never the uncompressed versions (Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio). I have tried 2 different USB C to HDMI adapters (both claiming to support the HD Audio codecs), multiple HDMI cables, and several different driver configurations. I have 2160p/60hz working fine and tried an adapters that only supported 2160p/30hz just to rule out a bandwidth issue. I've lowered video resolution to 1080p/60hz as well to free up bandwidth all with no success. All my A/V components support HD Audio and it works fine on my wife's Dell with built in HDMI 1.4 and Skylake Processor. The Skylake Processor supports HD Audio as well, so by specs, the hardware supports it. I can't tell if its the USB C to HDMI adapter refusing the connection or a problem with my laptop. I use Kodi to play my files and have confirmed it is configured correctly to passthrough audio to my AV Receiver to decode. Computer Specs:Yoga 900i7 6500u512gb SSD8gb ramWindows 10 Creators Build (version 1703) Just checking to see if there are any other audiophiles on this forum that have made this work successfully with a Yoga 900?

Hey! So I'm running my audio via HDMI from my graphics card and it plays through the speakers built into my monitor.

When I first did the Win 10 update I had no audio whatsoever, and followed some suggestions on online forums that lead me to disable the Realtek High Definition Audio which I did and upon a reboot- my HDMI audio was working.

But then I had another weird issue. My PC is set to never sleep as I use it as a media server, but my screens turn off automatically after 10 minutes. What im finding is that when I wake up my monitors the audio stops. When I view playback devices I can't do any tests because "the device is already in use by another application"

(note: I have the checkbox for allowing an application to take exclusive control of a device un-checked).

So far there are only 2 ways to restore audio. 1) restart the PC. 2) go into device manager > Sound, video and game controllers > AMD High Definition Audio Device > Disable... wait a few moments > Enable.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

I purchased an external monitor on Friday.  It worked on Friday and Saturday. Sunday when I booted up, the external monitor no longer worked. The history appears to show an automatic update occurred overnight.  I was running Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to 10.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the intel video driver, I reinstalled the chipset driver.  I have trimmed the micro HDMI cord as suggested in one of the posts.  I have seen enough posts on the various boards to know my issue does not seem to be an isolated case... but I haven't been able to find an explanation of the cause or a reliable solution.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi there

Brilliant little device for passing HDMI (less HDCP !!) plus RCA L, R Audio and 5.1 Optical Audio (SPDIF). Switchable audio pass thru,, 2Ch, 5.1 ch.
(Max HDMI input is 1080p so won't work for your 4K huge TV's though) - still an excellent little device for those who want to record from HDMI video.

(IMO the cheap ones are better than the expensive boxes as the expensive boxes don't strip HDCP from the HDMI output making some content not re-cordable with video capture devices or even software such as Audials).

AGPtek 1080P HDMI to HDMI Converter - Newegg.com

Audio quality more than good enough for games, movies etc. A really discerning audiophile might not be 100% satisfied - but it's not intended for Studio quality !!! More than good enough for me and I'm quite fussy.

Hey everyone,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (Build 7100) from Vista (32 bit) and am having trouble getting audio from my HDMI out port.

I am using the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset and have upgraded to the latest available driver but still no luck.

I have attached a screen shot of my device manager and my sound devices with the HDMI plugged in - there is no option to select the HDMI as an audio device.

Any ideas?

Appreciate any help!

A:Windows 7 - HDMI out no audio - Intel HDMI audio

Try to set the SPDIF as the default audio device. That might work.

If it doesn't, try updating audio driver.

At last, as you said, your GPU driver is the last one, still, the problem might be right there. Usually, when the device manager shows the HDMI audio as functional and it still doesn't work, it's probably a GPU driver issue.

Try switching your GPU driver to older but stable versions.

On my case, nVidia drivers area always a pain in the *ss, so, when I successfully find a good and stable driver I stick with it for a long long time.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

A:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

hi all,

I have my media center PC connected to a Sansung LCD TV through an HDMI cable.
Everything works fine; the PC detects TV and both audio and video travel through the HDMI cable from PC to TV

The problem happens when I turn the TV OFF and ON. In this case, the video is back but not the audio. This can be seen in the "playback audio devices" in "control panel", the icon that represennts the sansung speakers via HDMI dissapears.
Any idea of what to do? I got the latest video driver, which also deals with HDMI audio but no luck at all...

A:HDMI audio problem when connecting LCD TV to PC via HDMI

This is more of a HDMI handshaking issue than a Windows or driver issue, and a very common occurrence. Sadly if you do a Google search using "hdmi handshake no audio" for the search terms, you'll get lots of results but very little in the way of how to solve. About the best solution I came across is this one,

*Official* Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 thread - Page 271 - AVS Forum

A lot of that thread deals with the Asus Xonar sound cards, but there is also quite a bit about the no audio in general.

Hello quick question so i'm clear and to see what you would suggest.

I have a new upgrade LG 55 inch 4k TV connected to my PC via HDMI to GTX970 I've read this TV supports audio also via the same HDMI cable plugged in to my video card. I'm a huge gamer.

Right now I have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card connected to a 4.1 Logitech setup w/sub. I've been using this for years and it works great for surround sound when available and EAX is always a plus SO whats my benefit to 86 the 4.1 and just go HDMI?

In that case I lose the 4 speaker setup correct and just use audio from the TV?? I can't see the advantage for this unless i'm missing something big. I don't use SPDIF output or the Dolby digital or DTS encoder from the card I assume all that you need a receiver.

Can I use HDMI output for audio and STILL use my 4.1 speakers? I don't want to invest in a receiver or anything like that at this point. What would you do if you were me? i'm at work now but I read if I go into the sound properties/playback devices I can choose HDMI output? I'm curious to see how that works.

A:HDMI cable for audio or keep my 4.1 w/soundcard? need help w/HDMI

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. e.g. HDMI or Speakers (your sound card). HDMI audio is generated on a sound chip in the Video card. You don't have all the options you do with a Sound card.

No sound.
Little speaker with the red 'x' appeared yesterday
I have gone through the whole update drivers circus to no avail, my laptop can't detect that it has speakers built in so it doesn't bother finding a driver for them.

This is where I am at:
- Intel Display Audio is the only driver installed for sound
- This means that sound works when the laptop is plugged into an HDMI
- When HDMI is not plugged in, the computer cannot find the built in speakers.
- I have Linux on this system and audio does not work there as well

I would call this a broken chipset, but the fact that the computer still processes audio with the HDMI cable attached is confusing me. Also, the 'audio board' for this laptop has 2 usb ports attached to it, and those both work fine.

Any help would be appreciated

Alright here's my situation:

I have a Core2Duo PC running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, hooked up to my TV using a HDMI cable. This has been working fine for 2 years now. Yesterday I decided to add some more RAM to this PC (4 GB instead of the standard 2 GB to be exact). I know 32 bit will only read 3 GB but I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit later.

Anyway I booted up the computer, worked fine of course, even watched a movie or two without problems. Then this morning I booted up the PC and I suddenly noticed the volume icon saying that there were no audio devices detected! I checked under Hardware and there are no audio devices whatsoever! So my HDMI cable is still giving me picture but no sound! Seeing as I'm using onboard audio I immediately booted into the BIOS and although I couldn't find a specific option that said onboard audio I did see something audio related being "HDA" (I assume HD audio) on automatic, the other option was ACRealtek97 or something. However it was enabled so no luck there.

Does anyone know how all of a sudden my HDMI cable isn't providing audio anymore? I even checked my Nvidia card which also stated that HDMI audio was enabled.

I hope anyone can help me, thanks in advance.

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop 57362-4790 running Win 7 with all the latest updates. Audio is an Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI, and Realteck HDMI.

Because I had no headphone output with the computer connected to my TV via the HDMI out I ran the Windows audio trouble shooter. I got a messaage "non standard audio detected" and Windows did something. Now my headphone jack works, but I have no audio on the TV from the HDMI connection.

I've checked both the Intel and Realtime audio controlers and gotten the message, "Device working properly."

I've searched both Intel and Realtime for new drivers and gotten the message, "Best driver already installed."

Opening sound, clicking on playback, clicking on configure, selecting speaker and clicking on test gives test tones out of both the left and right speakers on the TV. Going back to the web, still no sound!

Does anyone have any idea what Windows did and more importantly how do I undo it and get sound back on the TV through the HDMI connection?

Thanks for looking at this story, and any help you can give.

Use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to whatever you did. That should return it to how it was configured. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or emails.

Not sure if this is possible, but thought I'd toss it out there... I'd like to have audio sent via HDMI to my monitor while at the same time using the MoBo output jack for a subwoofer. I've only been successful with one or the other by itself in any configuration I've been able configure.

Any thoughts?

A:HDMI Audio AND Realtek MoBo Audio Simultaneously

Does your monitor have an Audio Out? Some do. If it does, HDMI to the monitor, then audio out from the monitor to your subwoofer. Mind you plugging something into the audio out may turn off the monitors internal speakers. You won't know until you try
But…here’s the kicker! A subwoofers job is to not only produce lower frequencies but to also blend nicely into its satellites (speakers). This is most commonly accomplished by either designing the sub and satellites to work together in that the lower cut off frequency of the satellites is close to the higher cut off frequency of the subwoofer. The other is to have an adjustable crossover that will allow you to match the subwoofers higher cut off frequency to that of the satellites lower cut off frequency. You also need to match their output (sound) so that they are even (or close enough!). Otherwise you will get a lot of boom from the sub and not be able to hear much from the monitor.
Monitors with built in speakers are not designed with fidelity in mind. They have tiny amplifiers and do not go very loud without sounding terribly distorted. Even if your monitor does have an audio out, you may be presented with the impossible challenge in trying to match it to your subwoofer. Honestly, you are better off purchasing a 2.1 (or 5.1) computer speaker system. You can get something pretty decent for not too much money.

I just got a new (cascaded) computer with seemingly no standard audio.

The audio icon is a speaker with and X through it and the only audio device that populates the Playback Devices list is the HDMI digital audio.

I have audio on the motherboard (think I can find it?? nope) and some auxiliary ins and outs on the front of the PC (headphone, line in).

No audio will output whatsoever. Keep in mind I will not be using the HDMI audio.

No headphones and no "X"s in the device manager...

um... any help would be appreciated! Thanks

A:No Audio, HDMI (unplugged), No Audio device listed

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. What is listed there? The HDMI and Speakers should be listed. If that is the case make the Speakers the default playback device.

If the Speakers are not listed, RIGHT click in a blank area on the panel and check the Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices and then if the Speakers are shown you can make them the default playback device.

If there is still no speaker, you can check the Device Manager to see if the sound is listed (could be RealTek or IDT) and if it is check to see if there is an error code,

As this is a new PC and you can't get it working it would be best to contact HP support. If there is some problem only HP can get it corrected under warranty.

hows your video connected? I'm guessing through HDMI or you using a vga,dvi or display port instead>? Are you trying to get audio through regular speakers? I ask if your video is connected through HDMI because that could be the cause because the video and sound both go through the HDMI cord and should project sound through the tv if it's connected through the HDMI.

Sound over HDMI from GPU

If you have a Radeon HD 4xxx series or newer it should be setting up your HDMI by itself, though you may need a driver from the website. http://ati.amd.com

Also, check to make sure that when you're hooking up to your TV via HDMI that your sound options have HDMI/S-PDIF as default...

In your sound control, located in the control panel, be sure that the hdmi device is set as the default. The hdmi device choice will be there if you're plugged up to your hdtv.

Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

Validated basic USB functionality on the 910 port with a USB C to A adapter (i.e. USB headphones work just fine.)  Tried both the Lenovo graphics drivers and the most up to date generic Intel graphics drivers; (neither work so I reverted back to Lenovo drivers.) I'd like to get 4k working eventually but right now not even 1080p output to external is working. Tried all display scaling options. In the Intel HD Graphics control panel, the device does seem to recognize the model of the external monitor, but it's not outputting anything (i.e. when I switch to clone or extended desktop, it immediately sets itself back to single display mode.) Any ideas? If I turn the system off and back on immediately, the pc stays powered on. It only arises after a few hours. (not sure how long exactly

This makes no sense, why would Win 7 go to sleep when it gets and HDMI signal?

I bought my Lenovo Yoga 720 on December last year, since I been travelling I haven't made a lot of recreational use until lately that I bought an HDMI adapter to use in the USB C but it doesn't work because when you connect the adapter it can't fit right because the USB C outlet is like moved 1 mm from the whole, so the adapter can't fit right and it the image on the screen comes and go, it's a faulty connection. How can I fix this?

I'm trying to find USB-C dongles that let me connect to an external 4K HDMI monitor and via VGA. I got the Club3D USB to HDMI 2.0 dongle which reviews on Amazon said works work the Yoga 900. However, on my 910 it does NOT function. Are there any other brands of adapters that are known working for HDMI 2.0 and regular VGA?

I've read a lot of reviews for USB C to HDMI adapters on Amazon, and I can't seem to find a consensus on which ones will work with the Lenovo 720.  I see there is an official Lenovo adapter, but it is double the price of most of the other adapters.  There are other adapters that specifically say that they don't work with the Lenovo 720.  Does anyone have first hand experience with a good adapter that is plug and play?  I saw someone else talking about adjusting the deep colour setting (or something like that) on their monitor to get the adapter to work.  I don't want to have to do anything like that.

I have a Yoga 900 and a Lenovo USB-C to HDMI adapter. It used to work just fine but now I can't connect to the external monitor. This has happened to me several times in the last few weeks - stopped working then went back to working the next day or so. I updated all drivers (I believe) and checked with two different monitorsWould love to get some help on this very frustrating issue. Thanks
