I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

What is the best photo management software on the market today? I don't mind if it costs money either.

But I have absolutely zero interest in photo editing. I just want something that can manage my huge collection of photos with speed, and where I can easily click on the photo to view it in full size.

I am wondering if there is something similar to iPhoto for Windows that is either free or affordable? I'd like to have something that can manage and edit my photos. I especially liked how iPhoto would allow you to email photos directly and it would auto size them for email if there were fairly large.

I have 1000's of digital photos taken over the years. I've saved them on an external harddrive (created monthly folders and put pictures in their respective folders). The one thing I like about HP Image Zone is that it's able to find & organize all photos in a chronological order...but I'm not too fond of the rest of it's features.
Basically, I want to secondarily back up to DVD's...according to chronological order (remember I have 'monthly' subfolders)...I just don't want to have to pick each monthly folder manually....I hope I've explained myself ok... Thanks in advance....

I've been searching for days and can't find a good solution, so would appreciate some advice.

I have a WD My Cloud 16TB NAS, where I keep all my music/movie files and where I want to store all my photos. The NAS comes with My Cloud as private personal cloud storage (I can therefore access all the files from multiple devices remotely) and it is also backed up to CrashPlan.

I want to be able to organise my photos into albums, do basic editing and view/access them from multiple devices, including:
- from a Macbook Pro Retina at home - this is where I will do most of the uploading, organisation and editing
- from an android phone - just for viewing, maybe uploading
- from a PC at work - just for viewing (e.g. through My Cloud on a browser), although this is not essential.

Right now I'm using iPhoto on my Macbook and have all the photos organised into smart albums, etc. (some photos are in multiple albums, which I like) - and the iPhoto library file is kept on the NAS. However, I can't view the photos/albums on my phone or from anywhere else - even using the My Cloud interface, the way that iPhoto creates the library file means I can't navigate through albums on any device other than the Macbook.

Can anyone suggest what photo management program I can use on my Macbook that will be able to resolve this? I don't necessarily need something with an android app because if there were a photo manager that, say, built a file structure based on albums, I c... Read more

A:Photo storage help neded

I think a lot depends on how much your are trying to store. I would say that an external drive would work if you need a load of space. You could even use a thumb drive if you don't need that much. You wouldn't really need to load a program on the drive because you can edit pics on the drive with any program you have on your main computer.

My old computer has all our digital photos, close to 600gb. I recently bought an iMac, and would like to use the new computer for photos, including access to old photos, but don't want to fill my 1TB hard drive. (the old computer no longer has internet access, I don't know how to fix that). I currently have the old photos also backed up via carbonite. Online searches recommended three locations to minimize risk of complete loss. I also found recommendations for a NAS drive, to allow storage and access with ease, and another source recommended optical archival DVD for long term storage. Some of those search results were from 5+ years ago, so I'm wondering if this is still accurate recommendations, or should I be looking at something else? I've had external drives fail in the past, so I am sort of frozen into inactivity at the moment, afraid to spend a lot of time and effort only to get something fail and lose photos. any recommendations for long term storage + immediate access/organization would be appreciated!

Previously, I had installed Windows 7 on a new SSD and also installed a new 1TB hard drive for file storage, photos, and programs. The SSD crashed and I had to get another one. I just installed Windows on it and then added my hard drive, which still has files on it when I ran the first SSD.

The hard drive shows in BIOS but not in My Computer. I went to Disk Management and it was listed as Foreign. I read that I should choose the option, Import Foreign Disk, which I did. I kept the same drive letter it had the first time around, and which showed this time, W. It is now listed as Disk 1, Dynamic Online, & Healthy. Now what do I need to do to continue to use it as I did previously, while keeping my data? I don't want to lose my files and photos, but I can always download the software again if I lose the programs.

Hi, this is my first post and i hope that somebody can help me!

I am running Windows XP service pack 3.
I'm not too bad on the laptop but things don't come naturally easy so i would appreciate a simple response if that is possible.

Problem is;
I have images in "My Pictures"/Picasa3 and also in the Canon Zoom Browser EX that i have just loaded onto my machine,
If i download new images from my camera or card they automatically go into all 3 applications.
Worst thing though is that if i delete a single image or a folder from just one of the applications i lose that image/images from all 3!!!!! I also had Elements 4 and the situation was just the same but i have deleted Elements for now.

What i want to be able to do is;
1) Load Elements 9 onto my laptop.
2) Download and manage all pics from my wifes point and shoot into "My Pictures" only.
3) Drag my wifes pics into Elements for editing only as required.
4) Download my pics from my Canon 7D into the Canon application only.......for editing of RAW images.
5) Move pics from the Canon application into Elements 9 for further processing as required.

I dont know if i am missing something really simple here but i feel sure that the above cannot be too difficult.....or can it??

Any help to get me on the way to enjoying the results of my expensive new 7D would be greatly appreciated.

I recently bought a digital camera and have been fooling around blindly with transfering photos to my hard drive.

I find that I have one set of photos stored in C:\My Documents\My Pictures.

I have a second set of pictures stored in two places: 1) C:\Program Files\Foto Eureka\1001623 and 2) C:\Program Files\Foto Eureka\Img.

I am wondering what the best way is to get them all stored in My Pictures without duplication.

Also, the set stored in Img shows the size of each photo to be 2,917KB, whereas the same set stored in 20010623 shows sizes ranging from 100KB to 150KB. I wonder why the difference for the same photos and if I can safely delete the file with the larger sizes?

Also, when I use Find to find files named pictures, I get three items named My Pictures,
1) C:\My Documents (open folder icon) with the 2001-06-11 set of photos in it.
2) C:\ (with a computer icon), with nothing in it.
3) C:\unzipped\My Documents\My Documents with nothing in it.
Should I just delete #2 and #3? Would you have any idea what I did wrong to end up with the three?

Thank you. grandpaw

Will blame my ignorance on my Sr. Citizen status.

Trying to use that new Google APP, Google Photos, where they are providing free unlimited cloud storage.
Have been uploading my photos to them, but it is incredibly slow.

Questions, please:

a. for anyone using: how long does it take you to upload a few photos ?
I have a "typical" Comcast internet home connection. Incredibly slow (for me)
Please just tell me, e.g., how many minutes for example 10 photos; don't understand the MB/sec kind
of answer. Blame this also on old age now.

b. Their web page interface to us humans is, IMHO opinion abominable.

Might someone please tell me exactly how to go about Posting questions to their Help Community forums. Just can't figure it out. Can't find, or come up with, any Button or Window for doing so.
Must be possible, since there are questions shown.
A exact and step by step on doing so would be much appreciated.

Than you very much. Appreciate the help,

A:For Anyone Using The New Google Photo APP (free unlimited pix storage)

I bet you can use a calculator?

Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test - run the test and note the upload speed, should be in Mbps (Megabits per second), now divide this by 8, the division is the upload speed in MB/s (megabyte per second).

Select all pictures you want to upload and right click properties. Note the size they take in Megabytes.

Divide Total Size by upload speed in MB/s and that's how many seconds it will take to upload in ideal conditions. Divide it further with 60 to find how many minutes. Actual time may vary a bit.

Are you running MEUpdate.CMD by directly double-clicking on it?

If you already are, try opening an elevated Command Prompt window, navigating to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ME (so the interpreter doesn't try and look for the file in C:\Windows\system32), and then run MEUpdate.cmd.

I have an Ideadpad Y500 (Model 20193) running Windows 8.1. It has the original/factory 15gb mSATA SSD and ~1tb conventional SATA HDD. The two drives (SSD and HDD) are managed by Intel Rapid Storage, a sort of software RAID management utility. Although Windows Disk Management (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) sees the two drives as separate devices (see below), they are in a RAID, so to normal Windows, they just look like a single HDD. I want to remove the SSD from the RAID. It is throwing frequent errors. My Windows Event Viewer (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) is full of hundreds thousands of warnings about problems with the SSD. It is nearing end of life. A few times a day the computer will reboot -- but only when running Windows. When I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Linux) it will run for a year without rebooting. I suspect that the Ubuntu installation is bypassing the Intel Rapid Storage software RAID and just directly using the ~1tb SATA HDD (ignoring the 15gb SSD).  I can access the Intel Rapid Storage management program in Windows, but it doesn't give me the option to break apart the RAID; to remove the SSD from the RAID. Supposedly there's a way to access it during POST by pressing ctrl-I, but that doesn't work for me. I can't figure out how to access the Intel Rapid Storage management via BIOS and that's the only place where I could (in theory) break apart the RAID and remove the SSD from the equation.  I realize, of course,... Kind regards

A:SSD not showing in Disk Management, but showing on Intel Rapid Storage

Could we get some more information?

Does this laptop have 2 hard drive bays? Did it always have 2 hard drives?
What does "deleting and renewing the old partition" mean?

What I suspect is that the SSD has a partition that is still marked ACTIVE. Windows will boot from one Active partition and ignore the other. So if the SSD has just one partition that is marked active then the whole drive would be ignored.

If you deleted the partition in Disk Management or some 3rd party program then that would have taken care of the Active flag on that partition. But if you just deleted the contents of the partition that would have left the flag.

Let us know what you did.

EDIT: I should add: any partition that contained an operating system will have the active flag. This is not something you would have had to do yourself.
