Recover mailbox *.pst files

Q: Recover mailbox *.pst files

I had to re-install WinXP and Outlook. I found my old *.pst files under
Docs../user/Local Settings/app//microsoft/outlook/*.pst.

I was able to open the outlook1.pst file ONCE, but then it had an error,
modified this file, and I can no longer open this file...
Error msg: "....//path/outlook1.pst is not a personal folders file.

The filesize was about 3-4MB, but now is 30k..

IS THEIR A TMP OR COPY OF THE ORIGINAL *.PST BEFORE IT SOMEHOW
BECAME MODIFIED.?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

There is a user that claims they have a missing .pst file. I cannot find any .pst files on the hard drive except a like 265k .pst. There is really nothing in it. They said none of the mail in their Outlook box on the server has this info in it. Is there a way to recover 1 mailbox from the Exchange Server or what else can be done to locate the mail. Would the .ost give more info?

Hello everyibe,
We have a hydride infrastructure, with E2016 onpremise and O365 (Exchange, teams...). On both sites we have the same users and separate created mailboxes.
We are migrating mailboxes from Ex2016 to O365 in phases to remove E2016.
Users on both sites have the same mailbox name. Example: E2016 [email protected] and O365 mailbox [email protected]

Issue:
When we migrate a user's mailbox to O365 and from ExchangeOnline we send an email to a non-migrated user, the email reaches the existing mailbox in O365, not the onpremise mailbox.

An alias has been created for non-migrated users in O365, marking themselves as main and we have tried to delete the default email address given by the username. But even if the latter is deleted, the deleted email address always appears, so the email always
reaches O365 and not E2016.

Is there any way that when a user with a migrated O365 mailbox sends an email to a user with a mailbox in E2016 onpremise, the email does not go to the O365 mailbox and to the onpremise mailbox?

What would be the solution to keep the default username (for teams solutions, etc) and to be able to modify the email in O365?

Thank you

I have a new Dell Inspiron with Vista Home Premium (x64) operating system. I am not a newbie but am definitely not user savvy about files.

My problem is that I use Eudora email (7.1) and want to move my mailboxes accumulated in my old Dell which uses Windows XP to this new computer. I cannot find out where to copy the data from the XP Eudora mailboxes to the Vista Eudora. I have them backed up but just don't know where to copy them to. I assume once I find the right place if someone can tell me that the copying of the files is not anything tricky.

Any specific information on this problem very much appreciated.

Thank you.

I am having a problem finding Eudora .mbx mailbox files that have all of stored mail. When I search in windows 7 for any file, it never finds it, eventhough the file is there. For example, I am trying to find .mbx files from eudora that are not stored in the location they should be. When I search by going to start and then entering .mbx and hitting the search button, it comes up with the message: "Windows cannot find 'search:query=.mbx'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

I tried to rebuild the search index and that also did not fix it. This is a real problem for me because I need to back up my email boxes from Eudora and they are not in the application folder and are also not in the user/application data/eudora folder either.

Anyone know of any other locations where it would be?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, a while ago I had the idea to start from scratch to clean up the system and gain more performance. But I have not done yet because I have some doubts.

On the PC I have Acronis True Image Home 2011
--> In the part where it says My backups I see the image that I have saved.
--> When I click on "Explore and recover" :To the right I see 2 items to recover: "Reserved for System and Local Disk (C)"
Therefore, the partition (D)will remain intact. Right ? But if I want to restore everything, both partitions, i have to use the option "Files and folders" ?

Extra info : I did not create the image, other person is who created it :P

A:Difference between recover partitions or recover files and folders.

How long ago was that Acronis image made?

I guess I don't understand your intent. You talk about starting over to clean up and gain more performance, but then express interest in restoring "everything".

Was that image made at a time when your system was running perfectly? How has your system changed since that date? If you restore, you will have to reinstall any applications you've acquired since the image was made. And that image won't contain any personal data acquired since it was made. Maybe it contains no personal data at all?
If you are going to "start from scratch", I assume you mean you want to do a clean install of Windows.

If you were to do that, the only thing in that image file that might possibly be important to you would be personal files---pictures, videos, mp3s, Word documents, browser bookmarks, possibly email, etc. And that would be personal files as of the date of that image, not your current personal files. And not Windows itself.

If I wanted to "start over", I would:

1: back up all current personal files to some other drive, probably external. I would NOT use an image for this. I'd just copy them with the mouse.

2: reinstall Windows.

If I did those 2 things, the contents of the Acronis image would be irrelevant.

You should forget about Acronis if you don't understand it or know whats in any images you have. Particularly if you didn't make the image yourself. Images can fail you anyway. I'd never rely on them exclusi... Read more

Hi. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit, Office 2010.

We're switching to Outlook as our email client, and I currently use "The Bat!"

Within The Bat!, I can export my email as either .msg, eml or Unix Mailbox files. I can only import email from Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Eudora from within Outlook 2010. I have a Windows 7 64 bit system, so I can't even load Windows Mail/Outlook Express on my machine. I couldn't import any of the .eml, .msg or Unix Mailbox files into Windows Live Mail.

I have two questions.

1) How can I accomplish my goal of migrating my email messages from The Bat! into Outlook 2010. I can open each of the exported mail messages and from within there "copy to a folder." But I don't want to do that 2,000 times.

2) Also, what has Microsoft made this so difficult? This is such a hassle that I would not use Outlook if I didn't have too. I'm not going to buy a third party application that will migrate mail for me. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

First of all, I want to point out that I have very little knowledge of technology.

I have a NTFS Seagate 2TB Go Flex Desk external hard disk drive. A couple months ago, I found that it had a problem where my laptop could detect it, but couldn't access it and needed to "reformat" it. I left it alone for a while.

Recently, I tried plugging it in again, and behold, it seemed to work okay and I could see all the files and so on. I tried chkdisk without the fixing part (/f). I didn't want to "fix" it until as last resort because it seems to imply some data will be lost. It said there were a lot of bad sectors.

I couldn't read some of the files (most of them were rar files) in my hard disk, and had "read error" and "data error (cyclic redundancy check)". So I basically moved all the files which were normal out of the disk as I couldn't move the others ("can't read from source file or disk") and now I'm left with the broken files, most of which are important. 40gb of 16,000 files.

Is there any hope for me to recover those files? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: after this, how would I deal with the bad sectors?

A:Disk read error for files in the harddrive, want to recover files.

OK! The bad sectors are always one of the killers of data on a hard drive. Thatís why we are always asked to back up our needed data at least on two separate drives. So, in the future, you should learn to keep at least two copies of your important data on separate drives or locations.
But, right now, since your drive still could be read on your computer, you could try to run some data recovery programs to take chances. Nowadays, many data recovery programs are developed to help people resolve these troubles.

But, if you are not sure, you could firstly try some drive data recovery freeware such as Recuva, TestDisk and iCare Data Recovery Free, etc.
But, if any data recovery software could not make a difference, you could consult a data recovery expert for help and prepare enough money for it.

Good luck!

Hi, I used Puran to recover some deleted files from my external hard drive and when I open some of the files I get the following message:

"This document could not be registered . It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document."

The documents still fully open and they look like they are all there. Also, when I look at the properties of some of the folders they say there is 0 bytes in them. I did the recovery twice, once selectively with only the files that I thought I needed such as .doc and .pdf, and again with everything including files such as .cab . chm .dwg .hlp .mdf. Two identical recovered folders from each recovery say they have a different amount of data in them.

My question is: are there supporting files that need to be recovered along with the .doc and .pdf files to fix the issues and to make sure i have recovered everything, such as the .cab .chm etc?  I didnt the extra files were necessary but on further research they might be files needed by word. Are they only needed for the program and not individual files?

Thanks for the help!

A:When I recover deleted files, are there supporting files also?

Check if the service "DCOM Server Process Launcher" is set to Automatic and running. Start->Run->type Services.msc, scroll down until you find the service. Also check to make sure the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" service is set to Automatic and running.

Without meaning to give any offence, if you do not have the specific forensic background and skills it could be counter productive for all concerned. One assumes that to be the case or the question would not be asked.

Its the domain of forensic computer technicians to recover such data, the actions of attempting it without the exact knowledge and tools required will likely destroy even more of what critical data may be left over.

In that case you could end up at one end of yet another law case....

Be very careful.

Hello,

I would like to recover them myself. I have heard of external hard drives, with USB connectors. Would it be possible to purchase a type of external mechanism, insert the HDD from my daughters laptop, connect thru USB to a second PC and read (assuming it's readable) the HDD and then save the files. Or alternatively, use a file recovery program on the second PC to retrieve data from the HDD on external mechanism? or does an external hard drive operate like a CD burner with room for two hdd's, its own and another?

Please excuse my naivete and lack of detail. All the detail I can provide. Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

A:Recover My Files

By the look of these recovered files they don't have either a meaningful name or an file extension. The only way to see if they contain anything of value is to use a program that can view different file types based on recognizing the file header. I suggest you download Explorer View for Windows Explorer, from http://www.explorerview.com. This program plugs into Winodws Explorer and will allow you to view the contents of the files, either by the recognized file header or as text or hex.

Good luck.

So recently my computer had some problems and, long story short, windows 7 doesnt run at all. the computer boots up with the VAIO logo, and from there you can access your restore options, or wait until the windows logo comes up and access a few other boot options which all do nothing to help. After that, you get the option to boot in safe mode or regular mode, but regardless it leads to a light black screen with only a mouse cursor. As far as i know, my only option is to restore. however, the main problem is that i dont want to lose all the data on my computer. so i am trying to use an external harddrive that i have just bought and the rescue data option of the system restore to back up my hard drive before i start the restore. The drive i just bought though, the my book essentials, will not allow any data to be backed up to it, although the program will back up to my flash drive. There is an option to install a driver for your external drive with the rescue data option, but it wont load the .inf file on the drive. ive tried transfering it onto my flash drive using a different computer, and running it there, but it still wont read the file. Is there a little linux based program i could potentially put on my flash drive and use to back up my files? Or any other ideas you guys can come up with? thanks for your help

A:Trying to recover my pc files

One of the best web sites I have found so far that has apps for doing just about anything is http://sourceforge.net/directory/Most of the Apps here are free and you will find a good source of linux based programs as well.By the way, the repair option in Windows 7 does not install a new partition, so therefore it does not erase your original installation, it only repairs the files windows needs to boot and function properly so the computer will boot successfully into Windows.Bruce.

Do you have the Windows Installation disc or a System Repair Disc? Then you can try Copy/Paste in the Recovery Console
using right-click menu to copy and paste, and try copy to a USB stick. Connect it to a USB 2 port and not a USB 3 or drivers will be missing.

If you don't have a disc you can create one on another computer with Win 7 64 bit if that's what you have (Not sure but I think that's a requirement) System Repair Disc - Create

A:How to recover files on bad HDD

If you formatted the old hard drive "a couple" of times you are pretty much out of luck in recovering anything on it. There are companies that have ways to recover data from a bad hard drive but it is very expensive. If you had installed the old hard drive as a slave and after getting the new one set up you could have possibly gotten the data.

Do you still have the CD/DVD for the 2014 version? If so, you could re-install it but I'd do a Custom install so as to choose a different Folder or you'd risk over-writing what is already installed. Frequently minor or major changes to newer versions of a program will prevent using older files with it.

"broken HDD" don't work anymore.

it is possible--but a solution depends on exactly what you mean by 'broken' and 'don't work anymore'.

could you be more clear about this--broken means? dropped, smashed, hit by electrical surge, won't boot computer, etc.

I am trying to open one of many word files on a 3.5 floppy disc, and am getting the message "You do not have access to the folder 'A:\'. See your administrator for access to this folder". That is the message i get when i try and open it through word. If I try and access the disc through windows explorer, I get a message that the disc is not formatted. The same messages were appearing on my girlfriend's computer, so i am guessing that there is a pretty major problem with the actual disc. Obviously you realize you should have backed up prior to doing the restore. Unless a drive is dead you can usually get access to the files outside of windows or even outside of the PC.

Now that the damage has been done you can try a recovery program like Recuva or GetDataBack but you'll only be able to recover files that have not been overwritten by new data.

Frequently minor or major changes to newer versions of a program will prevent using older files with it.

I did a stupid thing. I deleted all the ghost image files for a drive, that
I found out later that I needed some files from.

I bought an "undelete" program, which apparently recovered the files. These
are the files: mydrive.gho, mydri001.ghs, and mydri002.ghs.

Every time I try to use Ghost Explorer to read the mydrive.gho file, a
dialog box opens and asks me for the last file in the disk image. So, I
select mydri002.ghs and nothing happens. If I cancel, I get the message,
"Media not present. All files not shown."

The files appear to be intact, since they are all about 2 GB in size, the
maximum span file size.

Is there anyway that I get my files back?

A:can't recover my files!

There probably corrupted. I know i had that with a floppy disaster when a floppy drive went on the fritz with me and had some schoolwork and it took me hours to work out that problem. But you may want to google for a ghost browser that can read corrupt ghost files or possibly a repair program to repair ghost files. Can the ghost restore?

Hi cebarbosa,

What exactly do you mean by recover?

Are the files deleted? Is the hard drive damaged? have you just forgotten the location?

Is there a freeware program that I can use, to find files that I deleted when I had to reinstall XP

A:I need to recover files!

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinspector.html

Do NOT attempt to recover the files back to the hard drive that they were deleted on, or they can overwrite other files you want to recover.

Do not use the PC for anything until you have attempted recovery, as every operation will risk overwriting the disk locations. Ideally slave the drive to another XP PC.

Hi, I really know nothing about computers, so I have no idea whether I just lost everything and am in a state of panic.

I was trying to go online with google chrome and my computer just got stuck. I tried to shut it off and it wouldn't shut down, so I removed the battery. When I put the battery back in, it wouldn't start and I ran startup repair. Startup repair couldn't fix the problem. I tried to start windows vista in safe mode, and it just shut down. Windows starts, then I see a blue screen, then it restarts and just keeps going with this cycle. Then I tried to go back to the last known good configuration. That didn't work. I have no idea what to do next because I can't get ahold of windows support.

All I want to know is whether I'm going to be able to recover my files. I have really important files on my laptop that I can't afford to lose.

A:can i recover my files

If you've got files on your laptop hard drive that you cannot afford to lose, you should have put backup copies of them all on to an external hard drive or a set of DVDs, not wait till something like this happens!

Your current situation may be recoverable without losing data (I don't know), but one day your laptop drive will fail as they all do eventually. When that happens, your data is gone well & truly (unless you pay hundreds of dollars for professional data recovery).

If the hard drive capacity is sufficient, install a new copy of windows somewhere else on it. That will not destroy the existing damaged installation. Then boot into the new installation to access your files that are on the old partition.

i want to recover files from a hard drive.the problem am having is, when i connect the hard drive as a slave, my pc would not detect it.And i know the best way to recover files from a crashed hard drive is to connect the hard drive as a slave and use a software like recover my file to recover any kind of file one wants to recover. but in a case where when you connect the hard drive as a slave and the pc cant see the hard drive, how do i recover files. i know of a method in which you get the same hard drive, i mean getting the same kind of hard drive as the spoil one, you open the bad one, remove some things in the bad one and replace them in the new hard drive bla bla bla..the problem is am not familiar with this method, any body with an idea..............

Is the Master drive actually set for Master? Some drives (I think WD, in particular) have separate settings for Single (or only) and for Master.

A:Recover Files

Were they deleted and How long ago? Depending on the time frame it's likely they are nonrecoverable. But you could try this EaseUS Data Recovery There are free versions and paid versions. Keep in mind that the more you use the system the more likelihood the data will be nonrecoverable.

A:Need help to recover files

Hello Snake,

Since you have the Vista Home Premium edition, you will not have the Previous Versions available. You can see if the free program Recuva can help you recover the files if it has not already been to late to do so.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

A:Plz help........How to recover files??

You left out important info. Which 2 drives did you delete?

Where they physical drives or Logical partitions? Example: You have a single hard drive, partitioned into C: & D:. The Logical Drives are C: & D: but you have one physical hard drive

If one was C:, big goof.

If they were other drives and you deleted them, your data is toast. When you delete a drive you do have to reformat them.

I am a fan of Western Digital, but I have an internal Maxtor 500GB Sata HD which until recently worked. A week ago my buddy at the shop called me and told me that our Motherboard fried when he tried to turn it on. I immediately went to the shop to fix the problem. The Power Supply had shorted out the Motherboard, which in turn shut everything down. Got a new Power Supply plugged it in and nothing. So I decided to try and get all of the files off of the HD a different way. I took the HD home and tried to hook it up to my PC, which I have always been able to do for other people's HD's and I could not get the Maxtor to read at all. I tried just about everything in my knowledge that I could think of. Unfortunately I have no back-up of all the files. I need to know if there is any way to get those files off of the old Maxtor, which has Windows XP Professional as the OS, so I can move them over to a new HD. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

I had a 23gb partition containing an o/s and installed apps.

As a test, I deleted and reformatted it twice - first with Diskpart, then Disk Management.

I then ran these 3 apps. Thought you may all be interested in the results.

You can see from the previews, they could recover what they found if it wasn't overwritten.

Recuva 52399 files in total

PC Tools File Recover 30699 files in total

Pandora Recovery 2263 files in total

This might seem low - but it only looks for certain file types - the other 2 recovered lots of files that were part of the o/s - which you probably wouldn't want. It seems particularly good at photos ( probably MP3 too, but I didn't have any on that partition to test specifically for it )

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Download

Pandora File Recovery - Find and recover deleted files of any type - free.

So basically I found out that my hard drive died on me. made a thread about it, and figured out a solution and learned that I could buy a hdd enclosure kit and just hook it up to my new pc and transfer my data.

well i bought a new hard drive. reinstalled windows. did all my driver updates. put the old hard drive into the enclosure kit, put the usb into my new laptop and found that my pc won't see the file.

I tried for maybe 10 mins. it saw the drive briefly then it vanished. is there anyway I can retrieve the data off that drive?
