Cisco 2800 Failover

Q: Cisco 2800 Failover

I am new to all of this, I have been thrust into a situation where I need to figure this out.

We have a 2800 connected to a microwave transceiver (our main uber fast connection) and a T1 via ADC Kentrox Data Smart Max T1 (our backup connection)

This is what I walked in to.

What we/I would like to do:
-continue using the MW as our main connection
-use the T1 as an automatic failover if the MW fails due to weather or other event.
-if possible, I would like to take the T1 directly to the Cisco 2800 bypassing other external equipment.

I believe we intend to drop our current provider.

Additional complication:
We are hosting our own website and customer services via the web via this connection, if failover occurs how can we assure that traffic still finds its way to us?

With all of that said, what do we need to do?

I know this is a huge issue and I hope I can look to this forum for guidance on these issues.

Preferred Solution: Cisco 2800 Failover

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a 2801 chassis and I have a 2 port e1/t1 wic. So you would just need to purchase the a new card.

Next you need to re do your config.

You need to configure HSRP

I am looking to design an active/standby failover but am wondering if to get clients to access the VPN you would need to have more than 2 usable IPs from an ISP? For example. the ISP inside interface will have public ip 1, the primary asa will have public ip 2, and the secondary ip will have public ip 3.

I basically want to the know the best way to design a network with 2 internal networks using active/standby failover.

I programmed the cisco 2800 as a gateway and I can ping outside from my router just fine and also the internal network can access the internet using my cisco router just perfect. The only problem is that I cannot telnet/ssh/ping my router from the outside to its public ip. Ping/SSH/Telnet from internal network to the router works just fine. I can also ping the cisco external IP from our internal network.

Please help!

I have two routers 2600 series and 2800 series. Also, i have 2 WIC-1DSU-T1 cards (V1 not V2). (WIC-1DSU-T1 will be referred to as a t1 card from now on). I have installed a used, known good, t1 card into the 2800 router. Once the router was fully up i did not have an expected AL (alarm i guess) light on as i expected but, actually NO lights at all. When doing a "show interfaces" the t1 is NOT listed.

Can someone please help me figure this issue out?
If you need or want any information please ask.

Thanks in advanced!!!

Could anyone with the technical knowhow comment on the Sempron 2800+ vs Athlon P 2800+, I have to build up a few computers for someone, and would like to give the best 'bang for their buck', and I am uncertain as to the possible advantage one of these CPU's has over the other.
The Sempron is 15% cheaper, but the sales guy says the Athlon XP is "much faster" and better, ?? but I thought the Sempron was just Athlon XP relabelled to separate the old Athlon XP from the newer Athlon 64?
The Athlon they have is a Barton Core.

I have a Cisco catalyst 3500xl I ran the standard installation and entered a ip subnet and gateway that's all i'm new to Cusco but I want my ports all have internet access but not sure how

A:[solved] Cisco switch configure Cisco catalyst 3500xl

First question is what type of ISP service do you have and how many devices? If you want to connect 5 devices, you'll need 5 static IPs from your ISP. The reason is that 3500xl switch is a layer 2 switch only. Which means there is no routing /layer 3 functionality.

I am trying to setup the Failover where it plays a video file (mpeg2 with transport stream) upon failure. If I set this file to play as a file, it works fine, but then stops when finished. What I would like to do is have this file loop continuously until the network is re-connected. I have tried to set up a playlist, but it does not work. My playlist was created using notepad and is entitled ASIC .txt

Settings ….

Backup Channel ….. Playlist
URL box is ………. file:///mnt/usb/sda1/mediafile/React (have also entered React.txt)

My txt file is attached, but is ….

media:file:///mnt/usb/sda1/ASIC .mpg
Any help would be gratefully received. Alternatively, is there a way to get the single file (that works) to continuously loop?

A:Failover from USB

There may be a way to script something to work like you want, but the script would be a lot more complicated than simply "play x". It will also need to check to see if the alarm has cleared and then stop playback. But it will largely depend on what exactly you are doing (or trying to do) as you haven't provided near enough details for anyone to help.

hi everyone, how can i setup automatic fail over for this diagram.A and B are different ISP suppliers and we dont have to access for edit router configuration.both are leased lines.thank your very much for your support.

A:automatic failover

Many business class router/firewalls have feature called SLA where you can program a secondary Internet circuit as a backup to the primary. The router/firewall will do a continuous health check on the primary circuit to a designated site you choose on the Internet. If there is anything that drops under the threshold you set, the router/firewall will roll over the Internet connections over to the secondary circuit.

I'm not sure if the SMB router/firewalls which advertise themselves as dual WAN ports can operate in this manner. I do know their basic operation is to do a round robin or if link status for the primary fails will roll over to the secondary WAN port.

I'm new to the forum. However, I really need help on my Vista OS on an HP desktop PC. I am getting the following reports:
1. "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

2. "Problem signature - 01 Auto Failover"

I have read some of the responses to this problem and have 2 problems. First, I am a novice when it come to this sort of thing, and next, my PC did NOT come with a disc.

Question: Obviously, Vista is Trash ie, most of the responses, and so is 7. However, since 7 seems to be the only option to upgrade to, how do I do that after purchasing a 7 upgrade disk, if I can even do it???

By the way, a common problem I find in your threads is the downloading of photos, which is the last thing I did before my PC crashed.

Also, will I lose "My Documents" if I can an upgrade???

If ANYONE would be so kind as to offer me some advice (in NOVICE Terms Please , I would greatly appreciate it.

I need to configure my router for three routes ( two separate fiber links and a radio link) with one of the fiber links being the primary link, the other fiber a secondary route and the radio a backup route for the fibers.

I am looking for a best fail-over configuration that will allow traffic to flow primarily on fiber link A and failover to fiber link B incase of failure in link A and incase of failures of both fiber links, the traffic to flow on the Radio Link. The configuration should allow for reverse once the fibers are restored.

I link my Windows home PCs (7 and some XP) to a separate file server box via a persistent network mapping. There's a separate mirroring server in place on the network too.

If one server goes down, theres an undignified scramble to remap drives so that work can recommence - but is there a quick way to have Windows 7 pick up the job of determining primary and secondary availability to speed this?

I know I could probably do something involved and complex via a virtual server and clustering but I'd prefer something simple and client-side if possible !

A:Quick and dirty way for alternate failover server?

I thought the basis of this type of RAID setup is to redirect traffic from a primary to a secondary without interruptions. I didn't think you would need to do anything if the setup is correct.

We have a fairly unstable Internet connection through Dodo (Please no quips about peanuts and monkeys, I know Dodo is a terrible ISP). They, and Telstra have refused to fix the problems, preferring instead to blame my equipment, despite the fact that I have replaced every part of the network many times over. Line noise on the connection is terrible, and causes anything up to 30+ disconnections a day, from anywhere between 10 seconds to 90 minutes.

As my sons play a lot of online gaming, disconnections not only kill the game, but also get them demoted on the servers.

So, they have a 3G mobile phone with 1.5GB data allowance per month.

But we are having problems finding any software (preferably FREE), that will let us set up a fail over environment such that when the PPPoE connection fails it switches to 3G, and automatically reverts to PPPoE when that service comes back online.

Any one know of any software that meets this need?

I think you are looking for Connectify dispatch which can use both the ISP connection and the 3G at the same time though it's not exactly free it may still be worth the price.

Laptop is acting strangely as of late. I was playing a game and had a GPU driver crash, which subsequently locked up my system. After having to force power it down I got stuck in the startup repair loop. I tried startup repair at least 10x, and it would always say it couldn't correct the problem. On every attempt it came back as a "Bad Driver" as the issue. On my last attempt to boot it finally went through to windows, but things are randomly crashing. I checked AVG, which says resident shield isn't active and it cannot turn itself on. I tried to run several scans and they all fail automatically saying that they were terminated. I ran Malwarebytes and it did not find anything. I would appreciate any help that I could receive.

I recently bought a new motherboard and processor for my computer. The store was out of the ATX motherboard I wanted, so i opted to get a bundle that included a Mico-ATX board. I installed this into my tower, and hooked it up to my old power supply (400Watt) everything seems to be installed correctly, but when i go to start the system it begins to start and then powers down after less than a second.

It will only do this once per time it is plugged in, and does not try to start until it is unplugged and replugged in.

Any ideas what could cause such a thing? I think the connections for the sys switch are the most likely- but that doesnt really explain the one time almost booting thing?

AVG 6.0 will be retired I think, we are using 7.0 now.

You should uninstall the older version before installing 7.0. At the Grisoft site it may tell you when the 6.0 version will expire and not be updated.

I don't see anything malware related in the log, so I would say whatever you clicked on didn't install anything.

The only way to be sure would be to run some scans with AdAware and SpyBot which I do not see installed.

We are using AdAware SE personal edition v. 1.05 and SpyBot v 1.3 now...if you have any older version, they will be fully retired and you will get no more updates for them so they will do no good against new malwares.

One thing, though: Since a child uses this computer, you probably have a bunch of kiddie games installed, and the spyware removers often find bundled spyware in those...very often in fact. The games may or may not continue to work if the bad parts are removed...but, you can of course reinstall those if you wish, and ignore what is found in them, if you wish....Usually, the type of spyware found in kid games like Broderbund, Learning Central, Hasbro, etc are like the DSS Agent and are very minor risks...

Info on downloading, installing and using AdAware and SpyBot:
SpyBot Search and Destroy v. 1.3> is the latest. The older versions are abandoned and will not give you any more updates!

I built my PC about 3 years ago and here lately It's been running very hot. The PC has always ran a little on the warn side since I'm running an AMD processor. Since the PC was built it's always ran around 47c now she's running 52c at idel and goes up to almost 60c on load. I used Artic Silver 5 when I built the machine so I have pretty good thermal compound on the processor. Can the paste wear off after a period of time? Do I need to reapply? Thanks

Just before you rush in and reseat the CPU - heatsink, remember that the reported temperature will also be fully reflective of the the "ambient" room temperature and any changes.

If that is up 5, then so will the CPU.

As to which one, buy the cheaper one. You will not notice any difference between a 2800+ and a 3000+.

access-list 101 permit tcp any any eq ftp-data
access-list 101 deny tcp any any
access-list 101 deny udp any any

now the ftp-data line shouldn't that let in any ftp traffic coming in?

would I have to try something like this:
access-list 101 permit tcp any eq ftp-data any gt 1023

Any suggestions I will have to do in off hours so I don't interupt any traffic.

Thanks in advance,

A:Cisco IOS 12.1 on Cisco router

Is this a standard FTP port they are trying to connect to? The data connections use a wide rang of ports for the transfer of data, so limiting it to a specific port won't work. According to your access list the ftp-data is being allowed from any to any.

BTW, the remote server needs to support PASV.

After installing 'some' updates to XP and IE a few people are getting "page can not be displayed" error at two sites. So far I haven't been able to ID the update/patch that caused this issue. It did start in mid-January. I have done all the updates on my XP IE6 system and I can still get to the site. The sites uses JAVA applets to bring up the various blocks and selection buttons etc. I have matched all the IE settings from my system to theirs - still nothing. I have asked them to apply/try several MS suggestions - nothing. I am out of ideas and would appreciate any help you can provide.
The two sites = one is a secure login site and the other a public information site. A few of the people who couldn't get to the site switch over to being able to connect - for no apparent reason that I have been able to identify. Since I work for the company in question I would rather not post the address here. It doesn't work whether you type the name or the IP address(es) - still get page can not be displayed.
Some people have hardware firewalls, some software (NIS) all are running some type of anti-virus software, some are on a network, some stand alone, some home some pro editions of XP. I have found no other commonality other than XP and IE with updates.

Sorry this got to be so long but more details are better than fewer in this case. We have also suggested a few other MS suggestions and have been searching the web for suggestions but nothing has work... Read more

Well, i have an old computer lying around and i decided to bring it up to par for random use. I have a K7S5A Motherboard and i ordered an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I, for some reason, assumed it was compatible with my Mobo, i was wrong. Allthough the processor hasn't arrived yet and i haven't tried it, i doubt it will work, properly anyway. I've never upgraded a CPU that isn't compatible with the Mobo b4, so I'm not sure what to expect. Will it not work AT ALL, or will it work at a slower, compatible speed. It has a 333 MHz FSB and the K7S5A only supports 266 MHz. I know i should have checked this before but whatever happens, happens. Any solutions?

It won't, most propably, work at all. I wouldn't even recommend putting it in, but feel free to.

Hello Techies,

While using my computer today at some point, I don't know of any paricular action on my part that may have caused this, everytime I open a new browser window the "window" itself is about 1.5" x 1.5" and I have to maximize it or manually "stretch it" in both directions to make it a reasonable size.

Got any ideas?

A:Internet Explorer 6.0.2800

I have a workaround that I use for that issue. Open a new window, stretch it from the corners until it fills the screen (or is the size that you want). Now click File and close. The windows should open correctly now.

Hello, i am looking to upgrade parts of my laptop but am not surer if this is possible. I know that uprading RAM is easy and need no further help on this but i would like to get a P4 ht if possible, do these even exist for laptops. Would i have to change my motherboard?? add additional cooling?? also a video card upgrade would be useful as well?? any help?

My current system is a Sumsung V25
Pentium 4 2.8
845g chipset family ( which according to intel supports HT technology)
533mhz system bus
512mb ram

A:Upgrading a Samsung v25 P4 2800

Most laptops are NOT upgradeable in any way apart from RAM or replacing the HDD.

Motherboards are specific to each model of laptop. If by chance there was one that was available as a spare part, from a later model that would actually fit in the case, its most likely it would cost more than a new laptop.

Some top end (expensive models) can have a video card upgrade but as far as I know that model will not be one (it's more of a budget model).

I have just recently built a new computer and have run into a few problems. First off, my CPU (a AMD Barton 2800+) should be running at 2.08 GHz, it's actually running at 1.25GHz. Not only that, but it's even overheating! It runs at about 65 C and up with the heatsink I have (a thermaltake TR2TT, aluminium with a copper base). It's not much, but it's enough to keep resetting my comp. To keep it cool I currently have the case open and a extra fan placed next to it. Here's the rig I just built:
Windows XP Home edition
Asus A7N8X w/nvidia nForce2 ultra 400 chipset
The malfunctioning AMD Barton 2800+ CPU
And the case has a 400W power supply

So, what is wrong with it and how should I go about fixing it?

I am having problems with IE 6. I'm running Windows ME and have IE version 6.0.2800. I tried an update, but I get a message telling me it's already installed. I tried the repair feature in Add/Remove Programs and it says it cannot be repaired and to reinstall. Would someone please tell me the steps to do this?

Thanks so much.

A:Internet Explorer 6.0.2800

What kind of problems are you having with IE6? I was having problems with script errors in IE6. I was unable to remove it, so I went to Microsoft's site and installed IE6 over top of the current install. When the install started, it told me that there was already an install and gave me the option to re-install, repairing the previous. It worked for me and I haven't had any problems since.

Just a thought to try.

Good luck,

I received my Athlon XP 2800+ today and installed it on my SOYO KT-400 DRAGON ultra platinum edition mobo... it first ran at 1250Mhz, as the mobo did not recognize the cpu...

So i went and downloaded the new BIOS, flashed and voila. I followed instructions from Soyo website and set FSB at 166... about 2 mins into running the machine without running any applications and the anti-burn shut off my machine....

Turns out the chip runs at a constant 63 celsius/141 fahrenheit when set at 1250 mhz... but when i set the FSB to 166 it skyrockets to 85 degrees, who knows how much hotter it would get without the anti-burn monitor.

With my fan running at a constant 4800 RPM (Thermaltake Volcano 9) it still overheats, i even used arctic silver paste.

Does anyone know what is happening?

Is my relatively new heatsink outdated already? Could there be too much paste that it doesnt conduct at all (not likely, i spread that stuff paper thin!)

Thanks for you help...

ive heard u cant overclock the new amd's too much so is a safely overclocked 2800 better money wise + performance ? i know the 3200 64-bit will beat it, but is the 300$ more worth it? also can u put pc3700/466 or pc4000 ddr ram work in a mother board made for ddr400? i cant find a Mobo that will work with that type of ram

A:Overclocked AMD 2800 vs 64 3200

You can't run a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit CPU, so that 32 bit CPU is not futureproof. 64 bit will become the norm a few years from now and your (by then) prehistoric Athlon64 will be able to run it.
