I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello and welcomeDownload page for x201 will appear on the EOL site soon. What drivers, for what OS version do you need exactly?

Hey guys I want to update my laptop RAM Lenovo ThinkPad X 201 3680PW9  to. But I will have ordered via the Internet so it would be almost impossible to be retained or invoiced if it does not work. I want to know what is the best option to upgrade the RAM 8 GB (2X4GB) or 12 GB (1X4GB+1X8GB)?What is the best RAM brand compatible with this model ? Thanks alot

Solved!

Go to Solution.

A:want to upgrade thinkpad x201 ram?

Max supported by this serie is 2x 4GB RAM, a 8GB module will not work.

You'd need SODIMM modules DDR3-8500 (DDR3-1066) or DDR-10600 (DDR3-1333). DDR3-12800 will most probably not work (I never managed to get one working in mines)

Stick to well known brands like:

Samsung
Elpida
Kingston (but avoid the "Value RAM" series)
Hynix
Crucial
Corsair (but avoid the "Value Select" series)
A-Data

I have a lenovo thinkpad x201 from 2011. I had it sitting 3 years. 1 year ago, i got it out of the attic. It is a really fast laptop for some heavy office use, lightweight gaming and having multiple tabs open in the browser. I use it every day. I replaced the HDD with an SSD and it became blazing fast. It has a small problem with the fan though. Its having a hard time running. My laptop would normaly be on 60 degress celcius under normal use and hit 80 degress under really heavy use but after 4 months it would reach 70-80 degress under normal use and hit 90-95 degress under heavy use. But things got worse. After 1 month my laptop would reach 80-85 degress celsius under normal use and hit 95 even when i tried to open google chrome with some tabs open. Sometimes, when i was watching a video, my laptop would reach 100 degress. I couldn't play any videogames because my laptop would fry itself. My laptop would shut down immediately when it hit so high temperatures. After that, i replaced the problematic fan, dusted the motherboard(there wasn't any dust though) and reapplied the thermal paste. Things got much better. Under normal use it would reach 60-70 degress and reach 80-85 degress under heavy use. But after 2 months things got bad again. Now my laptop reaches 65-70 degress under normal use and reach 85-93 under heavy use. Things are not as bad as before but i'm still getting angry when it reaches 93 degress because the CPU clocks are lowered and my LAPTOP lags for about 2... Read more

Hi,I am new on the forum. Sorry for my bad English, I am French. By now i am in India for some times. My Lenovo Thinkpad X201 (on W7) is telling me that I will soon have to change the battery. Yesterday I went to a shop a little far from my ashram. The manager (looks professionnal) took photos of my battery, sent it to another man whose arrival was expected in ten minutes. 30mn after I gave my phone number to the manager. 21 hours later no news. So I search another option. On my battery (47+) it is written - ...Replace with same type only... - (and among other informations 42T4835 / 42T4834 (Part number?)). On this forum and I discoverd there are three categories of batteries for this notebook: 4 cell, 6 cell and 9 cell.I am lost: when I search on the shop (http://shop.lenovo.com/tn/fr/itemdetails/43R9254/460/D65CF46CB0DB412FA2E56C552E0D8A38#learnMore) I find another Part number: 43R9254)I ask you two questions:1. Can I replace with a different Lenovo battery?2. If you have answered "yes" which ones? Thanks for your answers.Jacques

A:Thinkpad X201 Which Battery I can use?

There are lots of part numbers.  Anything from an x200 or x201 notebook will work.  (Not a tablet)  They will be marked 47+ or 47++.  4,6 and 9-cell are ok.  I tell people to avoid aftermarket (non-Lenovo batteries)

Hello all......I have been reading many posts about using a gobi 2000 on the x201 laptops.  I got one installed on my x201 and though it is recognised in the device manager with no issues.....I can not get a GPS signal to use with Windows 10 maps.  I am running Win10 32bit   10586.545Gobi 2000 HS-9205   #3263 I have no need to use the 3g data and do not have a sim card installed.  Will the GPS work without an active sim card? I have installed a few Lenovo updates like, thinkvantage GPS and thinkvantage access connectons. Also used the lenovo solution center to update and have no hardware errors shown.   On issue is that I can not turn on location toggle as it is grayed out in the Settings/System/Notifications & Actions/"turn system icons on or off" area.   The location is the only one grayed out and I do have location turned on elsewhere and Maps shows the location icon in the task bar when running.  I appreciate any help, thanks.

Okay, I recently bought a used Thinkpad X201 'tablet' (y'know, the type with the cool screen that spins) It worked great, except that the hard drive would sometimes slip off it's connectors, causing a crash. However, it always booted up fine (except me losing things that I hadn't saved, of course) so I didn't give it too much mind. However, recently it did so and when I booted it up before going to the OS, and right after the screen with the big "THINKPAD" logo the screen goes black except for a small lock symbol and beside it two small rectangles, one inside the other. It looks just like this:Some sites told me to take out the PRAM battery (or whatever they call it these days. It's the little thing that keeps the time going while the main battery is disconnected). Which I did, and left it overnight. When I booted it up, it beeped at me for making it forget what time it was, but then gave me the same response. I tried hitting ESC and then ctrl-s to get to the setup menu, but that only has four choices:network boot protocolboot ordershow setup promptsetup menu wait timethe latter two are the only ones I can change. I took the hard drive (A 127 GB SSD) and plugged it into my desktop, using which I could access all the files, so drive failure isn't it.I'd like to stress that this NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I had no idea this was even a thing until it happened.Oh, and yes, I've tried all the obvious passwords like 'password', '12345', 'abcd', etc.

A:ThinkPad X201 Bios password (?)

There is no way to clear it other than remembering the password.  There is no "backdoor" password.  You need a motherboard.

I've had a ThinkPad X201 (3626-CTO) for about a year. No problems until last Friday. Out of the blue (ahem), I got a Blue Screen when the computer woke up, and after that it blue screened every time it restarted in normal mode. However, it worked fine in Safe Mode with Networking. Basically by process of elimination, I was able to determine that it would run fine in normal mode with WLAN Autoconfig disabled (fine except that I couldn't use wireless). After repeated restarts with BSODs, two programs started acting flaky (Thunderbird and ESET IS) and had to be reinstalled. Then when I tried to run a scan with ESET, lots of files wouldn't open, and BSOD. I was convinced it was a failing HDD (which is a SSD).

All of the diagnostics I could run on the hardware gave no errors (HDD Diagnostic in BIOS, full diagnostics in Recovery platform, memtest86+). So, I guessed it might be just some odd filesystem error, so I restored the factory image. Everything worked. I installed a bunch of stuff (Office, Acrobat, Design Premium, ESET IS, Thunderbird, Firefox, Flash, iTunes, Quicktime, Java) and let a bunch of updates install, and all seemed well. Put it to sleep and took it home.

Fine on wakeup. Then I installed Dropbox, Skype and Chrome and let more updates install. It went to sleep. When it woke up, BSOD. BSOD on restart. When I turned off the WLAN Autoconfig service, it would start. If I uninstall and reinstall the Thinkpad 11/b/g/n driver, I can turn on the service and... Read more

A:BSOD on ThinkPad X201--WLAN error?

The most recent four crashes say:

Caused by driver: igdkmd64.sys
Caused by address: igdkmd64.sys+20beae
Crash address: ntoskrnl+7cc40
All are still the same error - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)

I removed the Intel GMA driver (8.15.10.2401 from Lenovo) and could activate wireless. Sleep and hibernate were disabled; I guess they are tied to the GMA driver? When I restarted, BSOD. Back to the previous BSOD error. So no help. It's possible that the constant crashes on start-up are taking a toll on the filesystem. Twice now I've had to nuke the Thunderbird profile to get it to behave normally. I re-installed the GMA driver.

I have updated Win10 to my Thinkpad X201. It is quite old win10 from 2016 or so. The problem is that VGA output (and Funktion-F7 keyboard combination for switching between external and internal displays) do not work. Display adapter driver in device manager is "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". I tried to install the original X201 display driver for windows 7 in compability mode but "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" will not change to "Intel HD Graphics" what is should be. I have disabled windows 10 automatic updates because this mainly a computer for performing live music and I cannot risk windows update messing it. So all I need is a display driver which would fix VGA output. Any suggestions what to do?

I recently got a Lenovo ThinkPad x201. It's can be converted into a tablet, and presumably, it also haa touch screen features. Tinkering with the device, I can't seem to verify this. The system information displays the following: Pen and Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points. The laptop did not however come with a pen ?as I'd bought it in a local classifieds. Could that what the "Limited Touch Support" mean? That you can only utilize the touch screen feature provided you have the pen (stylus)?  For reference, here's my device's product ID: 2985F4U

Hello,

It looks as if the Qualcomm USB modem is causing the problem here. I believe that is for using your phone as a modem?

The quick-and-dirty solution is removing the device and the software. If that's not a workable option for you, look on the internet for updated drivers for it. My best guess would be to check for updates for the phone software.

If that doesn't work, post a new jcgriff2 report and we'll go from there.

My laptop recently got a sound problem, which has lasted for about 3 weeks. Every time when I need to hear the sound, no matter playing music, watching online vedio, or vedio chatting through internet, I could only hear the sound for a couple of minutes, after that the sound is lost. But if I click the pausing button, and wait for a couple of minutes, the sound can be restored. But the restored sound will disappear again after a couple of minutes. When the sound is lost, if I restart the program or internet vedio, the sound will also come back. I have tried to uninstall the sound card driver, but it did not solve the problem. Does anybody know what caused this sound problem and how to fix it. Thank you very much for your help.

Double click the Volume (speaker) icon in the task bar. Make sure volume is all the way up. Start your program with the volume window in site. If you notice that the sound slider volume slides off automatically, this is caused by a virus.

I cracked the LCD in the screen today, and it looks like there is nothing wrong with it at all unless one looks really closely, or if one looks at the screen from certain angles. I can see the point where the pressure was placed on the screen when i look directly at it, but it isn't too bad. I have to travel tomorrow to Haiti (talk about bad timing) and I need the laptop to work for the three weeks that I will be there. If it can last that long I will be very happy. Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit factory installed. Due to some major problems with the USB-drivers, I want to do a fresh Windows 7 installation, but in a different way. I've created a new partition on the harddrive, and I would like to install Windows on that new partition, so there are 2 Windows installations on 2 different partitions, and then transfer the data between the partitions, and install the programs over time, and then finally delete the old installation, when I've finished setting up the new installation with programs and data. My questions is now:1. Is it possible to do that, and how do I do it?2. I want to do a original Windows OEM installation, with the Lenovo drivers and all that, but what do I need to do that?3. Will the product key on the computer work on both installations at the same time, when they are on 2 different partitions, but on the same computer? Best regards:Aksel Christoffersen

Can anyone help with the following.  Have recently purchased Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock Station (Type: 40A70045UK) so I can run two monitors.  I had previously Fujitsu port replicator supplied from work when running Windows 7 and all was good. But once I moved over to Windows 8 and 10 port replicator stopped working.  So recently brought the Lenovo Pro Doc.   Wireless monitor and mouse work fine but monitors showing nothing. I contacted DisplayLink who got me to run a few tests on my computer and came back and said 'The graphics card and the graphics card drivers of your Lenovo are not designed for Windows 10, this is probably why the displays are not working correctly. The graphic drivers predate Windows 10 by three years.' I've tried updating the graphic drivers for a start but upon trying to update the graphic driver (Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad, Version: 20.19.15.4963, Released 27 Aug 2018), I receive a message right at the end saying: 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.' I'm running Intel i5, 8GB of RAM and plently of space on C drive.  There is nothing in the Readme text file mentioning minimum requirments to install this driver. Any suggestions? I read here you can't upgrade the graphic card on my computer, so hopping just updating the graphic might work but have seen online I could use an external USB Graphic card adapter to ... A:Error when updating Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X201

Hi RajinderD! Welcome to our forums community.

The Thinkpad X201 is not compatible to run Windows 10 because there are no drivers for it. We suggest you to downgrade to Windows 7 or 8 instead and you can get the drivers here: https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html. And also, from the listed compatible devices for Thinkpad USB 3.0 Pro Dock, we can't seem to find the Thinkpad X201. You can check it here: https://accessorysmartfind.lenovo.com/#/products/40A70045US.

Welcome to the forum!

Well, it's not that difficult but you need to disassemble a lot of parts. This is fairly easy to do if you closely follow the instructions of Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can download from here: click me!

Hi everyone, I shut down my laptop and the next boot up took very very long , like 15-20 minutes. And the audio symbol was like that on the photo (a red cross on it)  I tried to install the driver but somehow it didn't work. Then i decided to format and reinstall windows. btw, im on win7. After new installation, i have the same problem. I could install he drivers and everything seem to work but there were still no sound and when i click on sound symbol or go to any settings about sound, my laptop is lagging. Boot time is still that long. I disabled and uninstalled everything about audio and now my laptop works fine except no sound  anyone has idea what could be wrong ? Thanks in advance
