windows wont load b/c missing system file

Q: windows wont load b/c missing system file

I downloaded Kapersky internet security 7.0. It was working good for a couple days, and then it identified some file that was named something like win32/winlogon.exe, as behaving suspiciously. So I quarantined it, and then the computer shut down, and when it restarted, it went throught that initial Windows loading page, and then right before I get to the part where I choose which account to log into the computer with, the computer restarts. I have tried to run the computer in safe mode, and done like all the options in that screen, like restoring last known settings or whatever. The only thing I didn't do on that menu was something where you type commands, and I dont know how to do that kind of thing, nor did I even know my password to start the process lol..

Some people have told me to try fixing Windows with the Windows Recovery CD that comes with the computer.. but I lost this a couple years ago when I moved. My computer is a Compaq Presario SR1135CL, I have Windows XP Home, with service pack 2. I contacted HP to try to get a new recovery cd but the person I talked to said he couldn't help because my warranty ran out. But he said if I paid 59 dollars, he could connect me to a technician who could solve the problem in a matter of seconds.. So I don't know if the problem is actually something very easy to fix or if he was just trying to scam me into paying for a service..

sorry so long, thanx for reading

Preferred Solution: windows wont load b/c missing system file

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Winlogon.exe is used to facilitate logins/logoffs and is a necessary file. If you could find another XP Home disc you can repair the OS and that should fix it. Other than that you could try copying that file from a working computer and put it in the folder where it is supposed to be although i don't know if that method will work or not. And the HP guy was probably going to tell you to use the CD to fix it in a matter of seconds.

Hello,
I've broken my desktop pc and I've tried to sort it but my skills are pretty minimal so it would be great if anyone could give me a bit of advice or point me in the right direction.

Here's a description of what happened:
After using my pc I went to turn it off as normal but I switched off the socket too soon, as the pc hadn't finished shutting down.
When I went to restart it, it seemed to be ok but before it booted up properly i got this message.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM.
select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Unfortunately I dont have the original setup CD-ROM, but I do have a copy of windows xp home.
I booted the pc from this disk and I pressed 'r' which took me to the recovery console, I'm well and truly stuck here, I dont know how to operate the recovery console.
Does anyone know how I can repair my pc from here or is there anything else I can do?
Many thanks in advance,
Martyn

A:Windows XP Missing or corrupt file, wont load

I've had a look at some similar posts on here and I've noticed that i seem to have a common problem, I tried following these instructions http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545 but after completing the first line I got informed that i could not copy this file, what should i do???
I cannot take the computer back to the place i bought it as it has gone bust, can I fix this myself?
I also own a laptop, is it possible to connect the 2 pc's? I have alot of documents on the desktop that I'd like to recover.
Cheers,
Martyn

1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer.
2. choose language settings and the click next.

Windows will not boot on my Dell Desktop system. I get the following error:
Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status:Oxc000014C
I stupidly did not have a recovery disk for this system so I created a recovery disk on another Windows 10 system. I tried the repair feature but it wasn't able to repair my registry. I don't have any backup images (again, stupid!). What can I do to repair
my system?
Some history:
I recently switched over to a new boot disk (an SSD) which has been booting just fine. Today I got a message from my Norton software that I needed to reboot to install a security patch. Perhaps this was a virus I picked up, because that was the last thing
I did.
I am happy to run commands on the DOS prompt (from recovery disk) if there is something I can do.
thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal.
First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly.
After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects. someone please help

Do a hardware/software reset with your BIOS:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

After doing those steps, clear your CMOS by entering the BIOS (see your system manual for steps to enter the BIOS), going to the EXIT screen, and loading setup/optimized defaults.

Yesterday i was awfully tired so rather than letting my computer shut itself down (usually takes 1-2 minutes) i just yanked the cord off the wall.

Now i cant even start it in safe mode / load last working configuration, this is the message i get.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\Config\system

It then says that i can fix this by inserting the windows CD, which i dont have.

Is there a way around this ?

After only just having one problem solved on here I have encountered another and I think it is fairly problematic but am far from understanding it - please help!!!

I downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer (version 8) as this was an option when I signed onto the web this afternoon (I previously had IE 7 and am running Windows XP version 2).

But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net (though I seemed to be able to initially). So I restarted the PC. But, it did not restart.

Instead I get the following message on a plain black screen when I try to run my computer:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

What is this file? I have an Acer Aspire notebook which came installed with Windows XP Version 2 (I have no CD drive currently).

I have looked on the microsoft website (I am currently on a different PC) but dont understand anything that is posted on their about this problem.

Do I need to re-install a new operating system? Will this mean I will loose all my data that is on my computer? This is very precious to me as I am travelling and I have saved on my computer photos and diary entries - I would be very upset to loose them.

What is my best course of action? Should I take it to a specialist. Again I really hope I can prevent the information that I did have saved on there from being deleted.

Thankyou to anyone who can assist.

Might be a failing Hard drive. Get to your bios and see if there is any diagnostics there to do a hard drive test. On some motherboards its delete on others its F2. If there is no diagnostics on the bios i would make a USB bootable diagnostics and do that.
I just had the same problems and found out the hard way that it was a hard drive.

Hi everyone. I was hoping some of you could help me whit my windows 7 installation problem. Apologies in advance for my english skills. I couldn't find a topic for my problem so I started a new one.

I was meddling whit my old Computer and tried to clean install Windows 7 from CD using Sandberg external dvd drive. I set the correct boot order and booted from external device.  Windows files started to normally load files, but after it was finished I got an error message of a missing or corrupted file. I tried to boot the Computer several times and everytime  error message is the same but the missing file is different. I tried multiple boot options and also tried to restart Windows in safe mode. It just says that there is no operating system installed no matter what I do.  I've had some problems whit USB ports on the old Computer before. Could this be causing the problem?

Im clueless what to do next. Thanks for help in advance.

A:Windows 7 failed to load because a file is missing

Since you attempted a clean install...just use the Windows install disk to delete current existing partitions...then try again.

Before attempting an install of Windows...it's basic to ensure that the drive on which Windows will be placed...is without problems.  This can be done by attaching said drive to another system as a secondary...then running the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic.

Trying to help out the grandparents, who just returned home from a trip. They tried setting up their computer and it is giving them the message about the file missing or corrupt (something similiar to this- I may have the order wrong: c:\windows\config\system 32)
We printed off the directions from Microsoft for the recovery console. The first two files to copy regarding system and software indicate they "cannot be copied" however, the last three were able to be copied. I stopped my efforts there since the first two didn't work.
I noticed a prior post indicated I could ignore the first two copy commands, is that correct? Or can I try a repair in the reinstall option? What should I try first? Unhooking the printer/speakers? Hardware issue? If that fails, try F8 and use last known configuration? If that works, do I do a system restore? When would I use "safe mode?"

We are at different houses w/o wireless so I am trying to get all info I can before heading back over there. Thank you!

Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.

Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.

Now
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! Have it configured in the bios, it shows the the blue windows logo then the screen goes black for 3 minutes and a blue screen flashes for 1 second saying  "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. Collecting some info (0% complete) search online for error: 0x000021a"

The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. So I put the HDD back in (while still at the command prompt) and it wont take my commands in related to the C: . I get a "System cannot find the drive specified"

I also tried hooking upp the HDD to my PC SATA, it shows in explorer, but just right clicking it crashes explorer.exe. D... Read more

UPDATE:

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.

I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.

Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."

Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Then sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files

Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Boot up your system into recovery using the Vista DVD or the recovery partition (most systems = F10 key during boot).

From recovery perform a Windows System Restore; if not able, choose the system repair option.

You most likely have a problem with your boot.ini, you will probably find that you cannot run the recovery console or re-install windows (without using another PC).These could be a little confusingFirst try the Microsoft support Here If you have the PCs side by side it would help to do the Guide step by step. This is the easier optionOrKellys-Korner XP Tutorial (The top half probably isn't relivant to your situation.) This requires pulling out the hard drive and using as a slave drive on another pc. Don't attempt this if you don't feel up to it.

Today I was playing a game and my system did a hard lock (no sound, no mouse, frozen image on screen), this has been a problem lately as I seem to be losing system stability for a while. I chalked it up to my system overheating before as I was typically able to shut the system down for a while, then 20-30mins later it would be fine.
However, today after my PC crashed for the second time, it started having trouble booting. Sometimes I can hit the power button and nothing happens, the power light comes on, the fans work, but no startup beep and the HDD light doesnt work. Other times I can start it, and it work like normal until it gets to the Windows 10 login screen (though most of the time it doesnt get that far before freezing), then I get a hang, and the HDD light turns off. The fans on everything continue to work, but the entire PC just freezes.
This PC about 2 years old and wasnt having any trouble until the last two months. This is the first time I have had this particular problem, but it has been crashing quite a lot over the last two months.
I had looked up this issue elsewhere, and it seems that no one can come to a consensus whether its the processor, ram, GPU or otherwise.
PC Specs:
ASUS Motherboard
8 GB RAM (Ram taken from an older PC)
4.7 GHZ 8 core processor
GTX 970
750 Watt Power Supply
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

Hi everybody,

This is my first post on this forum. I've recently come across a problem with my computer. I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit. I shut the computer down one day, and the next day turning it on I came across this problem.

File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\nqgbwc.sys

Status: 0xc0000225

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have no clue what this means. It said insert windows installation disc and repair computer. I did this, self repair found nothing. I then tried system restore and it could not initialize which is a pain in the ass. My last resort is to reinstall windows vista but I think I'm going to lose everything.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kevin

A:Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

First see if you can boot into Safemode without it giving you that error. If you can, first try searching for that driver to see if its even in your system32 folder.

I recently just checked my computer and it is not in mine by default, which means its a file relating to a third party program/app that has been installed on your machine. If you can figure out what the abbreviation for NQGBWC is from the list of installed applications on your computer, then you can isolate which program on startup is causing the failure on booting windows due to the missing system file.

As you may have already tried, i cannot simply google search nqgbwc.sys as it gives me just THIS post only. If you cannot find the problem, then the only thing possible from there is to reinstall your OS but of course BACK UP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT FIRST.

This must be one you guys have heard before, however i think mines a little differernt.

Ok i boot my comp and just before loading screen it comes up with
Windows ould not start becuase the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\Config\System

Now, i have found what microsoft says to do, which is to put a windows CD in and press r, to go to the command promt screen in order to put in a whole lot of code. Fair enough i say, looks easy enough.

One problem though, i put my windows disk in, i press r. At this stage the instructions say the black screen should first ask me for a password to log in as admin however mine doesn't. I then go to type in the first bit of code the microsoft instructions tell me to type which is MD TMP i then get a message saying access denied! i type help, see a list of commands and found the logon command, so i tried that except it doesnt give me a list of admins where i should then be able to type in the password and log on in order to be able to type the code which microsoft has to me to type.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! i really cbf formating my hardrive.

A:No boot, File missing or corrupt: windows\system\config\system

Went through the same thing with my older computer (HP Pavilion 502n/WinXP Home). Nearly brand new when it was given to me by a friend, three years ago, who forgot to give the Windows recovery disk. Then in mid August, it pulled a similar stunt as yours.

At First it was blackscreen with "Windows not shutdown completely and options to go into "safemode" or normally. That lasted a couple of times when it suddenly would not complete the boot up and got a similar message as you did.

Took it to a computer tech, who found a BIOS glitch and thought he had fixed it.

Then three weeks later, in early September, it did it again. Would not boot up completely several times. Then it finally did....after going online for a while, it started crashing and restarting every 20 minutes. Eventually it finally did boot up to show something else on a blue screen with a list of checking files systems on C: with this:

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)
CHKDSK verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)
Deleting index entry CAUGNJQR in ...and on and on until it reached 94% and crashed.

another boot and it was CMOS Checksum and so on.
At fourth bootup, it finally reached screen with F keys and I hit them to go into Safemode and HP system recovery (non destructive file mode).

After five hours, it completed that and Crashed. I finally boxed it up for a couple of days to take back to the... Read more

Hello...thanks for your help...

I have a laptop that wont boot up message says: windows 2000 cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupted <windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. It asks to reinstall a copy of this file.

I can't do anything because screen is black and frozen just message appears. I tried putting windows 2000 cd in but nothing happens.

Thanks again for helping.

Added: problem may be due to a freeware program i used (EasyCleaner) to try and clean registry. It deletes duplicate files or files that point nowhere etc. and maybe that deleted something i needed.

For the past month or so, everytime that I start up my laptop (Toshiba running on XP) I got this message (which only lasts for about 2 seconds):

Quote:

Please select the operating system to start:
Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

If I don't choose anything in the two seconds, it automatically chooses Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and boots up regularly, until today. I booted it and this message same up after the previous screen, asking me to choose a way in which to start up my machine from the following options:

Quote:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/ Networking
Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Start Windows Normally

No matter which I choose, I get this error message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

Hi there, Please help me!

I ran a registry cleaner (not for the first time) and after my PC crashed and came up with the following message :

Windows could not start because the following file was missing or corrupt:

\windows\system32\config\system

I have been looking on the net and seen a work around where you copy over the system file along with some others, from the c:\Windows\repair folder to c:\windows\system32\config\system. The thing is that in my repair folder there is no system file!!
I do not have an XP disc as my PC has a partioned drive and on the second drive is a recovery area, but I do not know how to use it or access it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

It says C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SYSTEM\CONFIG is either missing or corrupt whenever I try to start the computer. Now I don't have a setup disk or anything, and even if I did it wouldnt help because the CD drive doens't work, so I would like to download the setup software from Microsoft and boot it from a USB device. My main problem is that I'm not sure which software I need for an XP home edition. Microsoft has "boot disk" software and "bootable CD" software and I'm a little confused. Which software should I use? I really appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I have a Toshiba Sattelite laptop running XP home edition. I received an error message when starting up that a windows 32confiq system file is missing or corrupt. Since my system is backed up, I just decided to do a clean install of the OS using the OEM CD that Toshiba sent with the laptop. The first install went ok, but after using the computer for a few minutes I shut it down, and when I rebooted I got the same black screen error message, that windows could not start because the windows 32 confiq system file is missing or corrupted. I have reinstalled the OS several more times and even though I get a successful install, once I shut down the computer after using it, it will not restart and I get the same error message. I also got an error message one time when I was actually using the computer, that a registry file was missing and windows will try and recover the file.

I suspect I have a hard drive problem, rather then a OS problem, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

So my friend bought a non brand tablet from china with win vista on it. He turned it on and gave the error that a file is missing therefore it would not load the o.s.

I then though mayb I can pull out the hhd and plug it into my desktop and install winXp.

Well it ran well and it installed on the hhd and ran smooth. I shut off the comp and pulld out the hhd and placed it back in the tablet.

I turned on the tablet and it detected new hardware and askd if I should run it on safe mode, network, comand prompt, last good config or start off normally.

Well I try all amd nothing....

It would start but but then the xp icon would show with the loading bar and restart.

And back to the new hdwr detected screen....

What can I do??

I am unable to load Windows XP- I get as far as the Welcome screen which should show 2 user accounts, but no accounts appear.
When I installed XP (on a brand new hard drive, nice clean install with SP2) 4 months ago, I did not specify a password for administrator. When I tried to boot from CD and go through the repair console, pressing <Enter> at the "Enter administrator password" gets me an error message and locked out after three times.

I would appreciate any suggestions

Using the Windows XP disk from the friends computer, try performing a Repair Install.

Be sure to follow the directions carefully as many people accidentally perform a fresh install instead of a repair install.

You can find out exactly how much installed RAM is installed on the computer by booting into Setup (Bios) usually pressing F2.

There is no System32 file...there is a system32 folder which is full of different files.

You need to pay attention and write down the complete message exactly as it appears onscreen...then someone may have an idea or two.

Do you have a Microsoft XP install CD?

I'll try and put in as much detail as possible, so it's easier to solve the problem.

Computer Specs

Intel Duo 6200 2.something ghz
2gb DDR Ram
Sata Hard Drive
2 x SLI Nvidia GTs

Computer is about 2-3 years old, faily good condition, been reformatted a few times, never had any real problems before (apart from occasional virus).

Basically, past few days one of the graphics card had a slight over heating problem, reaching about 80 degrees at some points and cuasing games to lag a tiny bit every few mins, not too bad. Fans all worked properly, everything else ok, computer showed no sign of impending doom lol.
This morning, I was basically using my computer and a few odd things happened. Firstly, the mouse stopped working and the red light on the mouse dissapeared ( i assume loss of power), then the keyboard stopped working and then after that the screen/pc froze for about 20 seconds. Then some kind of BSOD, and my pc tried to dump physical memory or something. I let it do this, then it restarted itself. Unfortunately, it came up with this message

"Windows could not start up because the following file is missing or corrupt:
WINDOW\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"

It also said, that I could press R to try and repair file from Disk/Setup files

However,

every time i press/pressed R, it hung for a few seconds on a black screen, then computer restarted itself.

I tried safe mode etc, but literally cannot get past that screen, computer restarts itself ... Read more

I just bought a Digital Galaxy 737 projector, and tried hooking it up to my PC via VGA inputs. I first turned off my PC, then plugged the projector in with a VGA cable, turned on my projector, then turned on my PC.

As my PC was loading, i received a message saying "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows/system32/config/system
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

I dont even think i have the CD anymore. I bought my computer about 6 years ago... What are some options? I am not able to access safe mode, because this message pops up before that option comes up.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition.

Thanks for any ideas!

Have you tried unplugging the cable?

You probably will have to install drivers for it whilst inside Windows before it will work properly.

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.

I'm going through the steps in this link:

And I got completely lost at step 3 for part one. Problem is, my Windows folder, for whatever reason, is on my H:/ drive. However, it only gives me the "1" option to access the C:/ drive, which my windows folder is NOT located in. What do I do now?

A few days back when i tried to restart my system having win XP, it displayed the message:
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Also, this file was present in c:\windows\repair

As instructed at microsoft website and at many other websites, I copied them from repair to config. But when I restarted my computer, it did not display any error message but after loading some files it automatically reboots.

Can someone tell me the cause and remedy for this?

(I also copied the security, software, sam and default files from repair to config as these were also missing from config!)

Hey guys,

I've got a Sony Vaio VGN laptop, when I started it this morning I got the
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"

I know this means there is a problem with the registry so I carried out some searches and landed across several threads and solutions. However my problem now is that I don't have the windows xp setup/installation disk and all those solutions require it. I had a set of cds but it turns out they won't work on my laptop because they're for a different version.

I also need to keep all the files and programs on the computer. So what I need is a solution that won't delete anything from the laptop.

P.S I was going to try out the first solution on this thread (which links to the Microsoft website), does anyone know if this will work and keep all the files?

Cheers in advanced guys

Hello,
I bought A dell XPS 710, roughly mid September 2007. The pc was for me and college work. As i lived away from family during college terms the pc stayed with me until summer time. On saturday the pc was put into the back seat of the car with car belt + other items pinning it to the seat beside me.

When i got home i insured i got the pc to my room safely yet when i started the pc i got Windows cannot start as there is a file missing or corrupt (press R to repair)
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

i put in the OS cd given by Dell with the pc purchase and attempted to Repair and attempt a reinstall of the OS the missing or corrupt file when i get a blue screen of death including
BAD POOL CALLER
*** Stop: 0X000000C2(0X00000043X, 0XCA514000,0X00000000, 0X00000000)

i attempted also to make boot to cd this priority for booting, yet decided to change it back to old since there was no point.

I am hoping someone here can offer me assistance, oh yes also! (i took the HD, put it into this pc as a slave, copied the important files to an external in the hope that i could reinstall windows.

At this stage i am stumped, i think the HD may have been damaged from excessive vibrations caused by the pot holes(trenches) that existed on the journey. Irregardless i would appreciate the assistance.
