Solved: MP3 file gets shorter (length) in an specific destination

Q: Solved: MP3 file gets shorter (length) in an specific destination

When the file is in the desktop or any other folder it is 3:25 long, but when i put it on an specific folder it gets shorter to 1:40, this happens only with 2 files.

Appreciate the help.

Preferred Solution: Solved: MP3 file gets shorter (length) in an specific destination

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: MP3 file gets shorter (length) in an specific destination

If i change the name of the file it gets to the original length, also if i move the folder where the file is to another location. So the problem seem to be the specific URL with the specific name of the file, that makes it shorter.

Hey folks,

I'm trying to copy and paste data in a specific way I'm not sure is possible (but would save me a weeks worth of work ). I'd like to cut/copy data from a single column and paste it into multiple columns in sequence. ie the 1st column would have a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l down it. I would like to copy that and paste it into 4 columns that contain 3 rows each...ie the first would have a,b,c, the second would have d,e,f, and so forth. Attached is a small example.

Thanks for any help,

Edit: Im using MS Excel...should have mentioned this.

Weird problem I just ran into which I sure is a quick fix. Just today I noticed that when I play a file in Windows Media Player, the file length coutns down rather than up. So if I play a file that is 2:30 in length, it counts from 2:30 to 1 while it's played rather than 1 to 2:30. It's a bit annoying.

What do I need to do to fix this setting?

A:Solved: WMP time file length counting down.

I am using WMP 10. Left clicking on the playing time display near the bottom right of the screen toggles between showing remaining time, elapsed time, or a combination of elapsed and total time.

When attempting to move files from one drive to another I'm getting this error:

Destination Path Too Long

The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path.

What I don't understand is that the destination path would be identical to the source path, only on a different drive. The files causing the problem are within a sub folder but the initial copy was done by dragging a folder from the root of the source drive
to the root of the target drive. This was done locally not over a network. So the paths should be identical except for the drive letter.
After renaming the root folder to something slightly shorter I was able to move the files.
What I don't understand is if these files have a path that is too long for the filesystem (both drives are NTFS) how were they created at all?

I would like to create a .bat to copy files from source folder to destination folder.
Some files in source folder already exist in destination folder (Same name)
What I would like is that files existing in destination folder to be rename to f.eks filename_BAK.extension.
Source folder include. FileOne.asp - FileTwo.exe - FileTree.txt
Destination folder include. FileOne.asp - (NO FileTwo) - FileTree.txt
Result. FileOne.asp (version from source)(Existing renamed to FileOne_BAK.asp) - FileTwo.exe - FileTree.txt (version from source)(Existing renamed to FileTree_BAK.txt)
Now in desination folder.: FileOne.asp - FileOne_BAK.asp - FileTwo.exe - FileTree.txt - FileTree_BAK.txt
Files in source folder are placed in different folders, but in same structure in destination.

I have a external my book fat32 formated and a new mybook ntfs formated external as well.  Now when I copy my files from the fat32 to the ntfs external all files copy fine but some give that destination location file characters are too long, meaning that the file names are too long.  Now I could change the file names but that would conflict with programs that need that file name.  I am using vista ultimate and would like to copy all the files over from the fat32 to ntfs so I can reformat the fat32 to ntfs.  The files got on the ntfs from a simple drag and drop from my IDE NTFS internal hard drive. I hope you guys to tell me what to do. Thank you :)

I have a program I wrote in Visual Basic that copies a file from one directory into another directory at a prescribed interval. The Visual Basic programs uses the ShellFileCopy API function

99% of the time, the program works fine.
However occasionally, I get a Windows error that pop's up that says
"File is too large for the destination file system"
This is extremely baffling as the size of the file that is being copied is under 1MB.

Does anyone have any idea to what would be triggering this error in Windows 7?

A:seeking fix for “File is too large for destination file system” erro

Why are you using ShellFileCopy()? I'm asking because I used it in some programs but it was a long time ago. For your purpose can't you just use FileCopy()?

If I remember, I used Shell copy because it provided a progress dialog. If the files are that small that won't come into play. Or is the small file just because you are testing?

Ok, I think I may see the problem. The wrapper function uses Strings as source and destination. If you read the MSDN entry for SHFILEOPSTRUCT the source and destination strings must have a double null terminator. If not, the function will just keep reading memory getting the source or destination name until it finds a double zero.

You need to make a string compatible with LPCTSTR type that has a double zero a the end.

Hello all!
So I work tech support at my company and recently had one of our secretaries run into a virus. It was an email containing a fake resume in .doc format that once opened, attempted to direct the computer to download a trojan. AVG detected it right off the bat and quarantined it. I then ran a full system scan with AVG, Malwarebytes, and Spybot and everything came back clean.  I had assumed AVG along with Word being macro-disabled by default kept anything from actually happening.
However, at the time of the download she was running our company bookkeeping software (eClub for those interested) and it crashed once she tried to use it again. I check it out and see that the .exe to run eClub had been removed from the eClub folder (let's call it eclub.exe). Weird! So I go ahead and completely uninstall the program and reinstall, only to find eclub.exe was not reinstalled with it. I copy eclub.exe from another computer and try to paste it into the folder, and I'm told I don't have permission to do so. Then things get weird:
1. I uninstalled eClub completely again, removed the eClub folder and every possible saved setting for it.
2. I created a blank eClub folder (ex. C:\Program Files\eClub)
3. I can put anything I want into this folder, including .exes, EXCEPT for eclub.exe, getting the insufficient permission error.
4. I can put eclub.exe in subfolders of C:\Program Files\eClub without a problem

So I found a post on this forum with a similar problem. I'm trying to move a file that is larger than 4GB in size from my main hard drive to an external, and getting the error message in the title. The consensus on the other post was that the hard drive must have been a FAT format, and that too fix the problem either split up the file or reformat the hard drive as NTFS. Well, by all accounts, my computer is telling me that my external hard drive is ALREADY formatted as NTFS, but I'm still getting this error. I would prefer not to split up the file, but other than that, what are my options? I would appreciate any advice.

I have a question regarding files. How many levels of subfolders can there be? I've seen the max amount of characters is 260, does this include the path with slashes? I remember back in the day when files could only be 8 characters long and I had to make shorthand notations to remember what the files were. I have several files with multiple levels of subfolders or categories of information, and I'm wondering at what point do I need to start making shorter names.

Recently an application program I use will not recognise a CSV file with more than 8 characters in the file name.
I am using XP Pro SP3 and the program has been working for months/years with a files of length between 15 to 25 characters.
I have no updated the application since it last accepted 15-25 characters.
Tech Support for the application (normally VERY good) is ADAMANT that it is an XP problem and not the application.
Windows Explorer works fine with more than 8 character CSV files.
Message is ?Unable to Open Data File? followed by the Path.
If I reduce the length, by Rename of the file, then it works perfectly.
Windows Explorer Folder Options
CSV has a file type of CSV file and is opened with Notepad.
If I change it to
CSV has a file type of MS Excel file and is opened with MS Excel
I get the same result.
I am nor sure if it is relevant but in WINZIP the default program to open CSV files is Notepad even when ?Folder Options? show CSV as MS Excel files.
Any ideas?

A:File Name Length 8 characters max only

This could be more related to the length of the full file path rather than just the length of the file name.
You might sometimes see this problem if the directory which contains your files is nested among several other folders.
A possible solution could be to simply move the file path closer to the root of your hard drive.
i.e If you have a folder called "work" containing your data, move it to C:\Work.

Thank you for reviewing this post. I am a faithful subscriber to Carbonite .. has saved me AND a few of my customers over these past few years.
One of the downsides, though, is that for it to back up a file, the file name length cannot be over a certain number of characters. Understood. Not pleased, but understood.
I have two 1T drives in the machine that are subject to this backup ... and literally millions of files therein. And I have NO IDEA how many freaking directories are in there.

So there is NO WAY I can go directory by directory and truncate those file names with a length over X.

So what I need to locate is a piece of software, or a command, whereby I can Globally find and replace (truncate) file names.

Looked around a bit on Google, but found nothing of substance .. so I came to the place where I know that, amidst all this knowledge, SOMEONE will have an answer for me. You guys always do!

Thank you.

A:File Name Length Truncator?

Hi all
just a quick question

What's the maximum length of a directory PLUS file name -- the reason I'm asking this is that I've some CD's (a lot BTW) ripped into directories into FLAC format.

Tidying up the music folders I sometimes get a warning -- Name too long to send to the re-cycle bin.

I need to know the max nr of characters so I can select the ripping parameters correctly. If the combined directory / file name is too long then I might have trouble backing up the data (music) too.

I usually use ALBUM name (extracted from GRACENOTE or FREEDB depending on what the ripping program is) as the directory name and a number of parameters added to the track title - including a number for the music tracks with the album name as the directory.

However I can't seem to find anything on Max file name length for NTFS.

A:Max length - Directory plus file name

The max file name length is 255 (UTF-16) for the full path the limit is 32,767 (UTF-16).

I have a file on my desktop which keeps making windows explorer crash and restart in a continuous loop. The file is an MKV file from my new HD camera (cheap one off ebay which I am now suspicious is dodgy) which is sitting on my desktop.

Explorer crashes when I log on to MY username almost instantly when it loads up. I'v booted it up in safe mode and explorer is fine but I can't delete the file. Everything (time remaining ect) still says calculating on wont delete it.

I can log on as another user and explorer is fine until I touch that file. I can rename, delete or do hatever to any other file on my desktop (on someone elses account) but as soon as I do something to this file, explorer crashes and restarts so I assume that file is infected. Iv scanned with AVG and malwarebytes and also used F-secure and onecare's online scanner, not finding anything except a few tracking cookies (F-secure was my first scan which removed them).

I'm currently uploading the file to VirusTotal so I'll see what that says.

Any other ideas on how to delete the file? It's useless anyway.

Thank you.

I was wondering if there was a piece of software or a script that could monitor a folder for changes. Specifically, when a new file is created in that folder, it would be able to move all of the older files to a different folder.

Hello Lilsting,

If the folder (ex: Videos library) it is in has the "video" template, then it would have a "Length" column that will show you this.
Folder Template - Change in Windows 8
If not, then you could the "Length" column to any folder to have it show it.

(And I pretty much own every DVD or VHS of Star Wars I could lay my hands on, FYI ; )

A:Too large for the destination file system.

They're FAT volumes. You need to split the file into smaller parts. I think the max file size for FAT drives is 4.00 GB. You might be able to reformat your external hard drive using NTFS. Try right clicking on it in Computer, then click Format... and choose NTFS in the dropdown menu under File System. Note that this will erase all data on the drive.

To split the file, I recommend using HJSplit from here. It is a very lightweight program and no installation is required.

Please give further advise as available, e.g. is there a similar hotfix for windows 8 or windows 8.1 ?

Thanks for your time and help,

A:The file name(s) would too long for the destination folder

Historically files were named in an 8.3 convention, 8 characters for the name, the period/dot and up to 3 characters for the extension. With the advent of Windows 95 we got LFN/Long File Names that could be up to 255 characters. With the 8.3 the root of a drive could hold up to 512 files, adding Directories [renamed to Folders since Win95] allowed many more files to be in the Folders. With the LFN system the total files allowed in the root of a drive was reduced to about half because both types of file names had to be saved. The limit on LFN length applies to both the root of a drive and a Folder on the drive. All this is pretty basic, can get more complicated.

Hello all. Not a regular user of Excel; but do need help in creating something that would be useful to me and a few others at work. I suppose the best way of explaining what I'm after is by giving an example.

I have a directory C:\Users\Tekko\Desktop\Maintenance Project\Cape Nelson
In Cape Nelson are a number of folders named alpha beta charlie delta echo and foxtrot and so on.

I would like to have an excel template in "Cape Nelson" with a macro that when activated names the file as whatever folder name might be in say cell A1 and whatever ever date might be in cell B1. Eg charlie_15-mar-2013.xls
This then is saved in the relevant folder. So in the end I would end up with
C:\Users\Tekko\Desktop\Maintenance Project\Cape Nelson\charlie\charlie_15-mar-2013.xls

Also the macro script would ensure that the macro was disabled in the saved file.

Hoping this is achievable and look forward to replies.

However, as this is a daily task, eventfile.txt will have a different text content each day (it is in fact my openvpn logfile) and after robocopy is run only the latest version of the file is copied to the destination, the previous day being overwritten.
What I want it to do is append eventfile.txt to the destination file so I can build a history of all my vpn events. None of the switches appear to allow me to do that.

I'm creating a desktop app in Visual Studio for my company. It will be a fairly simple Inventory Query that is simple to use (one screen) and much more feature rich. I'm new to Visual Studio but I'm figuring out that piece.

What I want to do it set up a schedule run of a report dump from Oracle. Easy to do but when I schedule a report the only way I can get the output without being within Oracle is to have it send to my email. The email I receive has the same subject line except for the report number. It ALWAYS states, "Inventory - Available has completed with status Normal - Request #".

From this point I would click the URL within the body of the email, which is a one time link, and my report would open as html. I can then save it as a txt file on my desktop, import to excel and modify as needed through a macro, which then updates an Access table, which will later be linked to my App created in Visual Studio.

Problem: I need some automation so this can update on it's own every 3 hours and I have no idea how to do so.

When the email comes to my inbox, I would like Outlook to grab it (maybe from a rule that looks at From and the piece of the Subject that's always the same. Then auto open the URL in the body. Save it as a txt file to a specified destination. I'd want to have a file named Current_Inventory_Level.txt that always gets selected during the save and overwritten.

From there I should be able to make the other stuff happen. ... Read more

Wasn't sure where to post this and it is a 2 part different questions. I decided to come here because everyone here is far more helpful then over on the microsoft site. Your lucky to get an answer over there.

My first question is I am modding my sims 2 game. I use to be able to copy the file into my downloads folder no problem. I did an update a few days ago and now all of a sudden as I am copying them I get file destination name is to long for the folder. How in the world do I fix this? I have renamed them and it helps but it sucks doing it when I never had the problem before.

Next question I asked on the microsoft forums over a week ago and no answer. My media player has doubles of each album. It really sucks when I am listening to my media player and have to listen to the album twice. I tried taking them out resetting it and at first it only put the first one and then sure enough it redoubled them. I don't know if it is because I have itunes. How can I fix this please? Is it because of itunes? Is it something I just have to live with and choose to use itunes or media player and not have both?

Thank you for your time and sorry for the 2 part question and if I posted it in the wrong place.

My pc runs Win98SE and Outlook 2000.

I signed up for a hotmail account and was able to send an email with a large attachment to the affected domain using that. I concluded the problem was my ISP, but before changing to another I ran one more test.

I sent a large email to the affected domain using my Win XP Pro laptop, also with Outlook 2000. It arrived!

This suggests the problem is specific to my PC setup. The problem started some time ago (maybe a year or so) - before that I was able to send emails to the domain from the PC.

I'd be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions about what could be causing this problem on the specific pc.

I have an issue with one specific website on my home computer. One or two pages will usually open then I get a "Website not available" msg on everything I do after that even logging out. Sometimes after multiple tries the next page will open. I did not have this problem on my computer until a month or so ago. Before that it worked fine. I do not have this problem on any other computer. I can also access the site with my Iphone without any problems. I have tried Internet Explorer, Goggle Chrome, and Fire Fox and still have the same issue. I have deleted the Cache, Cookies and turned off the antivirus software (McFee All Access). Nothing seems to help. I am convinced it must be some setting on my computer that was changed but do not know enough about computers to go beyond what I have mentioned. BTW, I searched for a similar issue but could not find one. Any help will certainty be appreciated. My computer info follows, please let me know if addition information on the issue is needed.

I have Windows XP-Pro SP2 installed on a P4 1.8GHz CPU with 768MB RAM

I would like a script that opens a commamd window and calls for a file (icon file) to be copied to a specific folder on 5 different drives. I would like to be able to either paste in the file path or drag and drop the file onto the command window. The icon file will always come from the same folder "C:\WINDOWS\system32\00 ICONS\System Folders" and be copied, sometimes replacing a file with the same name, to these 5 folders:

"W:\WINDOWS\system32\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"X:\0 aAPPS\00 a Install First\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"W:\WINDOWS\system32\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"N:\0 aAPPS\00 a Install First\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"D:\0 aAPPS\00 a Install First\00 ICONS\System Folders"

I apologize if I am using incorrect terms. I don't know if a batch file could do this or if it would have to be done with vbs. I would appreciate the help. I know nothing about writng vbs script and only a little about writing batch files.
Thank you.

I need to connect a new HP printer for two users in an office. Due to the "looks" of the office, I am extremely limited on how cables are allowed to be setup and the cabinet where is located that this needs to be.

The bottomline: It requires approximately 38 feet of USB cabling to go from the printer to the computer that it will connect to. I can figure the length and how many cables I need from a catalog: 2-16' and 1-10' will do it.
QUESTION: Will the printer work properly with this length of cabling? Or are we seriously sacrificing performance?

Thank you for your input.

Hi all
I'm having a problem playing a .mpg file. It's 168MB but only 1 minute and 23 seconds will play. However, if I skip ahead or behind in the file, I can see different parts that are outside of that 1 minute 23 seconds. This happens with players: quicktime, WMP, realplayer, winamp, and some free ones I tired. So I think it's a codec problem but i'm not sure. Any help would be much appreciated

A:.mpg Files Shorter Than They Should Be

If it's just one file, then i would think that it is corrupt. If you downloaded the file from the internet it is a common problem. Is it just that file or does it happen for mutliple files>

Hi guys1
I'm about to create a .reg file that will set path in registry to my own icon for specific file extensions. E.g. I want my own icon as a default icon for .ini extension. And not only for one extension but for more of them, in a single .reg file. As always I don't want to mess it up,so I'm looking for some basic assistance on how to fill a notepad. And I know this is the best place to look at

P.S. I do use a Default Program Editor and File Types Manager, but I wanted a single .reg that will do the job for multiple modifications in a single click, something like backup of icon-registry-modifications, as I like to format my PC every year to ensure clean working environment. Setting things up de novo is a lot of fun but time consuming... I made a backup of registry and a Restore Point, just in case.

For any idea, thanks in advance!!

A:.reg file to set default icon for specific file extensions

If changing the icon worked with the tools you mention, use Process Monitor or Regshot to track down specific changes in the registry for .ini that change the icon. Then create similar registry entries for other extensions in your REG-file.
