Yoga 520-14IKB Wi-Fi card upgrade options

Q: Yoga 520-14IKB Wi-Fi card upgrade options

Hi guys, what are my options for upgrading the existing wifi card in my wife's Yoga 520-14IKB (type 81C8)? The current one is a Intel AC 3165 (not bad per se) but i've installed a 160Mhz router and wouldn't mind tunning her Yoga to it (like i did with my Legion which was upgraded to a Intel 9560 from the crappy Realtek it had in it). So here comes my dilemma and as far as i've found i can only go a few routes, though i don't know which one is compatible:1. Intel AC 9260 - my most likely candidate given its 160Mhz compatibility2. Intel AC 8265 - 2nd best but limited to 80Mhz (though still an upgrade over the existing one)3. Intel AC 9560 - have no clue if this will work with the Yoga (works flawlessly with the Legion even though it's not speciffically mentioned in the official compatibility list)I'm leaning towards the 9260 (though wouldn't mind the 9560 if anyone can confirm if it will work) but my confusion comes from 2 pieces of official info i get for this model (as seen attached)a) the Hardware Maintainance manual for this model in its Parts list mentions the 8265 as compatibleb) the Parts (Substitutes) on the Support interface for this model (and based on it's SN) doesn't mention those 2 but mentions other (Intel 9462 and others)So, to cut it short: will a Intel AC 9260 be compatible with this Yoga? or would a 9560 be? Thank you, MikeFrom the Parts annex in the Hardware Maintenance Manual From the Parts on the Support page interface

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,I have a question about this notebook. I have 8GB ram installed already on this notebook, but I would like to upgrade it to 16GB or 32GB. I read the manuals online about the hardware and many states that there are 2 SO-DIMM slots available, which sounds great for me, but I have checked some of the youtube disassembly videos and I can see only one SO-DIMM slot there.I guess I could just go and open it up myself and check, but before I do this I just wanted to ask here in community forums for clarification.Does this model have 1 or 2 SO-DIMM slots ?Thanks.

Hello,I want to upgrade my RAM, or instead, I should say replace my RAM(as there is just one single slot available). The only thing that I am still confused about is the required bandwidth, as it is nowhere mentioned in HMM of my laptop given in the Lenovo support website.I've been through this forum, but the HMM(Hardware Maintenance Module) details don't match the HMM details given for my laptop(refer to the attached screenshot).  Just Help me with the bandwidth that I should purchase. I am not sure, but as far as I know, it's either 2133mhz or 2400mhz. info: I am using Lenovo Yoga 520-14IKB(81C8) since Feb 2019 with intel i3 8th gen processor and 4GB ram (don't know what bandwidth it is).

Hello. I have purchased the Lenovo Yoga 170-14IKB with 1080p touchscreen, 8gb RAM and i5-7200U.Since it is a bit older, and I realized I need more RAM for my school projects and assignments, I decided to go for a "Crucial SO-DIMM 16GB DDR4 SDRAM 2400MHz CL17 Dual Ranked" memory, since on the Crucial's website it was stated that this Yoga supports that RAM. So I clicked purchace, got the RAM, upgraded, and suddenly my Yoga is warm when in sleep. It also draws so much power in sleep in Windows 10, that it discharges in a few hours when still in sleep. Before the upgrade, the Yoga lasted a week or two in sleep mode. Now, only a few hours. Is there any way to solve this issue? I was considering a BIOS upgrade might help, but I'm running the lates bios 2XCN38WW (V2.12).Are you aware of this issue? Is anyone else having this issue? Can I provide you with any more information to help me solve this problem? I need my Yoga's battery life as I spend a lot of time in school during the day. Also, I'm running Window 10 x64 Pro - build 17134. Thank you in advance!

I have a S3 Yoga 14 with i5-4210U Haswell CPU & GeForce 840M (Model# 20DM000VUS). I've searched and searched for any solution to upgrade the memory to 16GB, but seems only the Broadwell version can...so I'm stuck with 8GB.  I already upgraded to a 1TB Evo 850 SSD which did boost overall speed a lot, but running out of memory all the time is driving me nuts. So my question is, is it possible to swap out the whole motherboard to a i5-5200U Broadwell version without any HW/SW conflict issues so I could upgrade to 16GB?  Or can you only swap for the exact same MB?  It'd be a lot cheaper than buying a whole new Yoga w/dedicated graphics such as the P40 and way less hassle as long as I wouldn't need to reinstall Windows and everything. Thanks!

Hello all,For quite a while now, I've been looking to upgrade my SSD in my X1 Yoga.  As you may know, the X1 Yoga was available with either a SATA-based SSD or a PCIe-based SSD (NVMe).  Unfortunately, information about compatibility isn't easy to come by.  In fact, I never found a concrete answer to the question I have been asking all along:  Can an X1 Yoga (i5-6200U model) ordered with a SATA-based SSD be upgraded to an NVMe drive?  I found a lot of 'No' answers online, but with no proof of that actually being the case.  The only cases I found of people upgrading their SSDs were folks with the i7 system boards.  A few people have mentioned that Lenovo's official answer (when they asked) about the matter is that when you order it with a SATA SSD, you cannot upgrade to an NVMe drive.   I didn't want to believe that they'd have a different part number for an i5-6200U board w/ 8 GB RAM for an SATA-based system versus an NVMe system.  The slot physically accepts an M-keyed NVMe drive, despite the SSD in there being a B+M keyed drive.  The BIOS also has a boot option for an NVMe drive.   So, I took the plunge (and risk) and bought an NVMe drive, and am very pleased to report that it works just fine!  There was no drama.  The only thing I had to do was to change the boot option to boot from the NVMe disk instead of the built-in SATA one.   I can't speak for the newer models, but mine (20FQ, i5... I've recently (13th of April) bought new Yoga 530-14IKB. It has adequate CPU i3-8130U, which is faster than i5-6200U in my sister's Acer laptop, but I anyway don't play any games. Despite that, its battery life isn't good. It works about 3-3,5 hours in Chrome. In task manager I've noticed that Yoga Mode Control is constantly using 15-30% CPU and its battery usage is described as very high. After disabling it, I can't switch to the tablet mode and keyboard and touchpad don't turn off. Is there somebody who has Yoga laptop and experience similar problem?

Hi,      I bought my Lenovo YOGA 530-14IKB 3 months back, it worked fine, but I started to notice that bottom right quarter of the touch screen is not working, It is working when screen is at exact 90 degrees in laptop mode but when I tilt the screen back by some 10-15 degrees the bottom right part of the touch screen is not working. The lenovo pen is working fine on this section of screen. Facing same issue in tablet mode also. I don't think this is software issue, maybe the connection at the  hinge got screwed up. The laptop is still under warranty. All the Drivers are up to date. Can I get a replacement if I go to service center or is this a software issue which can be solved ?

Hey. I bought my Yoga 520-14IKB (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256gb NVMe SSD, GeForce 940MX) 2 month ago, had no problems, till last week. Now sometimes i experience such a strange behaviour. Mainly i work on my laptop in normal mode, and sometimes, during such work, it can false trigger a tablet mode for a few (2-3) seconds (notification appers), which causes the keyboard to switch off for this time, despite the fact, that it still stands as a normal laptop, not even close to position, which triggers the yoga mode. How can i fix this? System is Windows 10 April 2018 Update, have all the latest drivers and latest version of BIOS.

Ok, here's the deal. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. It has a 1.6GHz AMD Turion processor. It also has an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 Graphics card. I'm not sure how much memory it has and I don't know how to find out, but I think it's either 128MB or 256MB. Probably the former.

I wish to run a game that requires a 2.4GHz processor and a 256MB graphics card.

I know very little about what processors/graphics cards are compatible with my computer or how much they cost.

What are my options?

I would like to have s-video and/or dvi plugs as well. I usuallly play FFXI and just want the best I can get in graphics for my budget. Anderson/Greenvile, South Carolina, USA is my location.

1. Motherboard - MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD

3. Memory - DDR2 1024bytes Dual channels

4. CPU - AMD Sempron 3400+

5. CPU Speed - 1800 MHz

6. Power Supply Make/Model - Color Cases/SZ- 450 WPA

7. Watt output/Amperage - 450watt/ +12v 16a

If there are other options someone may see that I can improv eon my pc for gaming in the $250 budget, please let me know, but I do plane on getting another processor (AMD 6000+) and more RAM(2GB DDR2 cause I thinks thats the max for my MB) in the future. Hi: Looking at the list of supported wlan cards in the service manual for your notebook, none seem very promising. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03318732 If I had to take a chance on one, I would go for this one... Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter   HP Part # 657325-001 Changing wireless cards in HP notebooks made before 2014 is nothing short of a nightmare. There is a BIOS whitelist, which prevents any wireless card not listed in the service manual for the PC from working. The PC won't even boot up until the unsupported wlan card is removed. The next problem is some of the part numbers listed in the service manual are incorrect. For example, the Intel 6230 listed has the wrong part #, and no one knows what the right one is (or if the 6230 is even supported). What I would do if I were you, would be to find a used but tested and working wlan card on eBay. Query by the part number and check the picture in the listing to be sure you see the part number listed on the white sticker that is labeled 'Replace with HP Spare.' I'm seeing the Broadcom card I referenced going for as low as $4.35 + shipping from Hong Kong. They are slightly more expensive if you want one that is located in the USA.

Hi,

I would like to upgrade the graphics card in my Optiplex 990, can anyone please let me know if there are any recommended PCI / PCI express cards that are known to be compatible with the slot power rating of the system board.

The PSU is not an issue as I upgraded the shipped 240W PSU for a Corsair HX650 with modular cabling so I have got enough juice for the card. Its the motherboard slot rating and any other factors that will impact on choice of upgrade card that I am not sure about. I tried to locate some documentation on the support section of the site but kept getting error messages (servers screwed up on weekend?)
If there is a technical document that gives the ratings for the PCI slots and what can be shoved into them I would be grateful for a link?

Thx

You need to get a PCI Express x16 video card not a PCI.  If you have upgraded to a 650 watt corsair, then you should not have any limitations when you install a PCIe X16 video card.  It should configure to provide 75 watts and additional watts can be provided through the PCIe power cables on the power supply.

There are some old posts out there that consider the options for GPU upgrades on a Dell Inspiron 620 (Tower not slimline) given it's minimally spec'd PSU.
There seems to be a number of relatively recent NVidia cards marketed as low power, that rely solely on the PCI slot and do not have the extra 6 pin power source. Subject to size/space in the PC, and dual slow (one for venting) and the layout of the Inspiron internally, has anyone any experience successfully working with more recent cards, such as the low power GTX 750, 950 and even 1050.
My instinct says that there must be a problem, but if there is I'd like to understand exactly what. If it is worth a shot, I'd take a gamble as I've other machines that I know could handle one. Finally, if anyone is aware of more recent lower power Radeon graphic cards, I'd be happy to take advice on those.
For completeness, the current spec of the Inspiron is i5-2400, with 8GB memory, standard disk HD and that's about all.

On this model, an external USB SSD storage drive can be the most practical and useful tool for added files which is would also allow transferability to different work PC.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Hello!I have Lenovo Yoga 520 14IKB (Model name 81C8). I can not say when and how, but my fan stopped working. When the laptop is turned on, the fan does not work. With a high load, it also does not work. Tell me, the value of the fan connection pins (GND / +VDC / Sence / Control)? Thanks!

Hello, I came here to ask Lenovo Staff for any feedback. Week ago I've bought Yoga 710. After few days of use its front left corner went up, it became unstable on flat surface. Pads aren't the problem and everything is fine if notebook is closed. I left it open with some book to keep it flat over night to see if it helps, it did but only for a while. I've search through this forum if anyone had such issue and Lenovo Support members claimed several times that it should be returned as this is covered by warranty. Sides are stiff and solid but the whole front is pretty much flexible. I could flex it myself but this can damage internal parts which I'd like to avoid. So I took pictures, contacted local Lenovo Support (Poland) about it. Surprisingly they've refused to help by claiming that this is "cosmetic defect". I've asked twice, told them about statements here and I don't blame them, but there's clearly some misunderstanding. Here's the picture of how it looks like. It would be great if someone could clarify why I can't receive warranty service while I read here others did.  I still have week to return it to store but this model (with Kaby Lake) isn't available anymore so they can't replace it for me and yet it's not their fault. I'd like to keep it, stay fair and have my issue resolved. Best Regards, Simon. o/

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo Yoga 520 14IKB that I needed some help with. The configuration that I currently have is a 1 TB HDD as well as 4 GB of RAM. I wanted to do an upgrade to 8 GB and to install an M.2 NVME as well so I opened up the laptop base to check if there is an M.2 slot and how many slots do I have for the DIMM. I confirmed the M.2 presence and then opened the RAM cover, took out the RAM DIMM and then reseated it and put the cover back. Once I closed up the laptop and tried powering it on, nothing. No response. I tried with and without a charger. Power button long-press for 30 seconds without the charger and then trying again but unfortunately there has been no response so far. I'm pretty sure I did not remove any cables by mistake or cause a short as I did not use any metallic tools once I had the cover open. What do you guys recommend in this case? Is there a way to reset the battery or the internal battery (if any)? Should I take the battery out and put back in again after a 10 minute rest? Is there a pin hole to reset the battery settings or something? Any solution would be appreciated.
