I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After installing updates (including BIOS) via the Lenovo service under Windows 10 64-b and reboot, the laptop does not turn on (the BIOS boots). Update from 15.05.17. Power from the laptop did not turn off. The reason for the failure is an update from Lenovo. How to solve a problem? P.S.Laptop when pressing the power button turns on (the backlight of the key lights up, the cooling fan turns on, reacts to the on / off buttons). But nothing is displayed on the screen.

I need to replace (or just mend if replacements are no longer available) the front display bezel on my Vostro 1320. According to the Dell service manual, you have to remove the display assembly, which entails also removing the battery, hard drive, WLAN card, hinge cover, and keyboard.
Is it really that complicated.? A non-Dell website (www.laptopinventory.com/.../LCD) suggests that all you need to do is remove the screw covers and screws and pry off the bezel. I don't want to go ahead with this without checking.
Thank you,
Terry

Hello at all, I am using for almost two years the Lenovo Edge S540 with an Dual Band AC 7260 Wifi card. However, since a couple of weeks I figured out some issues with my WiFi. Sitting 2m away from my router, the signal strenght is just about 70%. As soon as I am 6-7m away, it's totally gone. I first thought the problem might be my WiFi network, but I do not have issues with any other device than my laptop. The problem occurs in with any WiFi I am using...  What can I do to solve this problem? Is it the Wifi card or maybe the antennas? Thanks in advance,Julian

After upgrading to Windows 10 my S540 will not shutdown or sleep correctly. Upon trying to Shutdown I get the red led in the Thinkpad logo on the keyboard flashing constantly and can hear the internal fan working overtime. This doesn't stop no matter how long I leave it for, resulting in a 5 second power button hard reset.Upon sleep it leaves some of the keyboard led's lit and then will not recognize a press of the power button to wake it back up. The system seems to be asleep as there is no noticable noise from the unit. Once again the only way to "wake" the machine is a 5 second pwer button hard reset. I've updated the machine fully for the Windows 10 update as per the Lenovo support centre including the latest bios update. Any suggestions? Thanks Paul

I recently updated my os on my S540 from windows 7 to windows 10 and updated all drivers + bios. Now my shift keys are not working. I don't think it is a hardware problem, because they stopped working both at the same time. I used the keyboard test from the lenovo and it said everything is fine...Had the same problem on Ubuntu, so it isn't os related. Are there any known problems with drivers or the bios related to the keyboard of the S540?

Hi all, Since a few days I have been suffering from a keyboard problem.Sometimes the keyboard doesn't register my strokes, despite the fact that I'm pushing normally. In fact when it happens the amount of pressure doesn't seem to matter. Sometimes it is a letter and sometimes it happens with the Enter button. In any case it goes away after I keep pressing for 5/6 times. I was hoping that anyone here could provide me with a suggestion as to how to fix this problem. Kind regards, Niels

As many others I have experienced malfunction on certain keys on the keyboard of my s540. It is my first non T-model, and apparently the keyboard is not the usual IBM-Lenovo quality. I found a Danish replacement keyboard and set out to replace the keyboard. It is a rather timeconsuming process, as you must dismantle the machine including the mainboard to get access to the keyboard. The keybard is screwed to the front frame with potentially 66 small screws, but on my s540 only 39 screws was mounted. The keyboard assembly is rather flexible and the missing supporting screws likely played a part in the rather short lifespan of the keyboard. My question is now, where can I get the missing 27 small screws, so I can stabilize the new keyboard properly?

A:ThinkPad S540 hardware question

Hi Ogioto, welcome to the forums.

I don't have that machine, but I think that the best way to know about this is to go to the support site of this model, and check under "Documentation" the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Here I found it.  Check it out to see if it gives you a better idea on what does machine has on the inside.

There is also the system service parts documents that helps you see a ripped off view of the machine.

I hope this helps.

Hello folk, I got back my laptop s540 which has been repaired by lenovo (motherboard replaced).I'm now unable to flash the bios. Hello, Since two weeks my Lenovo Thinkpad screen flickers on the right side and on boot up or recover from stand by. This becomes pretty annoying and I have updated all the drivers and also upgrading to Windows 10 didn't work neither. The warranty was due June this year, so I don't know that if I have to repair it that it will cost money. But I think it's strange for a screen to be broken in one year and 3 months. If you perhaps know a solution for this or know how it will be handled by Lenovo if I send it away for repairs please tell me. Yours faithfully, Joost Kolkhuis Tanke

I recently put together a system with spare parts I had laying around. The drivers that windows 2000 installs works fine, but direct 3d or any 3d rendering isn?t enabled. dxdiag states that direct 3d isn?t supported on this card (which it is obviously) So I uninstalled these drivers and reinstalled the drivers available at www.diamondmm.com which I presume are the latest drivers for this card since it was discontinued quite a few years ago. But with these drivers installed, windows locks up just as I get to the desktop. The only way for me to get out of it is to physically press the reset button on the computer and enter safe mode to uninstall the drivers I just installed and reinstall the ones that windows installed. Which brings me back right to the beginning again with no direct 3d support. It also stumps me because I had this exact same card in another system before I upgraded that one, running under windows 2000 with the exact same drivers and it ran fine.

I just want to be able to play Diablo II on this machine. :blackeye:

I've had it in for diagnostics twice, but they can't seem to find the problem. Once in a while the computer detects the harddisk and I'm able to open windows (otherwise it opens the boot-menu), and it stays stable for somewhat 10 min and then the computer freezes and restarts.  I've had the detection problem for quite a while now (since March), and just restarted the computer and continued working until I turned it off myself. But the problem became worse, and now I can't even use it. I really hope you can help me. My first experience with Lenovo is very bad.
After 1 year, my Thinkpad S540 seems to have hinge problems. I have 3 years warranty.
I contacted italian support and they said it is not a defect recognized on this model.
So I said: If lenovo builds only one notebook with a defect, this is not taken into consideration? Warran I think it's really disrespectful to their customers.
My company is a retailer of computer services and I think that we will not more offer Lenovo to our customer.

A:S440 and S540 Hinge Mount Failures - Not in warran...

To give a quick summary, I'm from the UK, I've only had my laptop since March this year, and part of my S440's touch screen snapped as I opened the laptop one day. To me, this is definitely a manufacturing problem, and should be covered under warranty. Its been numerous hours on the phone to lenovo support, who are still refusing to fix the laptop, and even had me buy an extended warranty for £116 (telling me if I did then they would be able to fix the laptop). The fact that lenovo support are only open from 9am till 5pm monday to friday doesn't help at all (I work during those times). I have had to make up extra hours at the end of my working day because of hours wasted on the phone to lenovo support, and I can't afford to keep doing that. Attached is a picture of the laptop just after it happened. I will update this later with a more up to date picture, as the issue is getting progressively worse every time I open the laptop.  I have added an account of what has happened with lenovo below. Mon 7th July:Phoned tech supportThey told me physical damage isn't covered under warranty (which raises the question - what is?)They told me to phone sales (02030140095), and buy product protectionPhoned salesThey took me through ordering online: an extended warranty for £116Tue 8th July:Registered extended warrantyPhoned tech support againThey told me that sales had sold me the wrong product, I should have been sold protection insurancePhoned sal... Greetings! I have i thinkpad s540 i7 version which I aquired from a friend who said it was broken and he did not know how to fix it. I noticed the battery was not working so I assumed it was dead and replaced it with a new one. The new battery is recognized by windows 10 but is not charging. I got an error message saying it is depleted and needs replacing, even if its brand new (<1 % wear level) If I disconnect the AC power, the computer dies immediately. It does not start on battery power either. This is also independent of OS (tried with linux and nothing at all). Lenovo settings app is installed and reporting the battery in poor condition. Hello everyone There have been plenty of threads about poor wifi performance on Lenovo S540.  But this is a new story. It is not poor, it is unhealthily terrible. I purchased S540 in summer 2014 and yes, wifi was weak but tolerable. Around 1 month ago, without a notice and without any intervention from my side, it became unhealthily weak. I mean it, 1 meter from router is more or less fine (three bars out of five), 2 meters  - weak and unstable, 3 meters - it doesn't even see the network. No barriers between router and laptop, of course The problem is not with router. That's because I tried two different routers, two different ISPs (and iphone hotspot just in case)- same story in every instance. Also, other devices in my family - laptops, smartphones and tablets - work just fine with existing wifi network. The problem is not with specific wifi card. I replaced wifi card (Intel N 7260) with the new one (nb. and probably lost guarantee by that) but nothing changed at all. The problem is not with software. I have all latest drivers and BIOS, and I also tested the problem under Windows 10 and under Ubuntu liveUSB - absolutely same symptoms, 3 meters from router = no wifi networks seen. P.S. LAN internet works perfectly fine, problem is only with wifi. From the above testings I conclude that problem is with hardware, but not wifi card - is it possibe? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas on how I should... I upgraded from windows 8,1 to windows 10, and after this, i can't use my adapter hdmi to vga. I updated the chipset drivers, but it did not work. However hdmi cable works fine. Could you help me with this issue?  Thanks in advance

with it plugged in and monitor turned on press and hold the windows key the select duplicate and see if you get a display, other than that not sure what to try as the cable works (good job testing people sometime forget) did you upgrade the graphics card drivers?

Hello everybody, I have a thinkpad S540 with an Intel Wireless-N 7260 since 1 year ago. As it happens with another users, sometimes the wifi does not work apropriately (the connection cannot be established), and I have to reboot to fix the problem. I have updated to WIndows 10, installed the lastest Intel Wireless drivers and the issue is not fixed. Besides, I noticed that my laptop has not wifi-ac (5 Ghz) capabilities. Therefore, my questions are the following: 1) Is it possible to replace the internal intel Wireless-N 7260 card for a faster -and more reliable- Wifi-ac card?(I have noticed that the user manual explain how to replace the intel Wireless-N 7260 card, but I assume that it means replacing a damaged card by another equal wireless-n 7260 card) 2) In replacement parts of lenovo S540 I have found the following Wifi card:"PN: 04X6010 2 Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 HMC Module".Can I replace the internal wireless-n card by this one? Will it fit on my laptop? Must I add an additional antenna for 5 GHz band? How? 3) In internet seems to be another 3rd-party solutions more cheaper than PN 04x6010. Do you recomend some of them realiable for me? 4) If replacing is not feasible due to the lack of an 5 GHz antenna, another solution is to replace my intel wifi-n card by another more realible one (but also wifi-n). Can you recommend to me some realiable and that will fit on my S540 with no problems (neither in ha... Read more

I was wondering if it would be possible to use S540 2lane eDP cable (04X4071, 04X4072) to upgrade S440 to FHD B140HAN01.3? Also maybe it is possible to DIY upgrade S440 1lane to 2lane eDP? Any ideas?

I was planning to upgrade my already fast 32 meg agp card with a 3dfx card.
I however do not have the drivers for it and I don't own the manual.
It was made by STB systems, has both a male and female vga connectors with cable connecting them both, pci, brown pcb board, three 3dfx chipsets and 12 chips that look like ram.

It has stickers on the back with the following:

[120-0782-006]

210-0336-00x
1x0-0782-006

It also has a chipset from GENDAC.

If possible, I would like a link to site that has the manual and the drivers.
Thanks.
