No "Change Picture" option for User Account Picture

Q: No "Change Picture" option for User Account Picture

I have tried to find an answer to this but cannot. Lately, I noticed my User Account Picture was not the picture I had selected. In addition, the Background Picture for my Windows 7 Home Premium edition log on screen was changed. This happened after running a program that is for exams at school which reboots your computer into a safe mode where the only program available is a rudimentary word processor.

I contacted the company that makes that software, Examsoft, and they told me how to get my default logon picture for my Windows Logon background back.

To address the User Account picture, I went into Control Panel > User Accounts and attempted to "change picture". This is not an option, however, for my administrator user account. It is an option for my guest account. I tried cloning my account without the bad .dat files, but that didn't work either as the new account I had created, also an administrator account, did not display a "change picture" option in control panel either.

I ran sfc /scannow, and it found no errors.

I am not sure what to do. Has anyone encountered this? Can you please help me?

Attached is a screen shot:

Thank You.

Preferred Solution: No "Change Picture" option for User Account Picture

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently installed Examsoft on my computer (a program to take exams in law school). After I installed it and rebooted my computer, some weird things happened. When I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del, the only option available was "Switch User" and all the other ones were gone (Lock this computer, Start task manager, etc.). I eventually downloaded the registry keys that were needed to get back all the other options. The options to restart, shut down, hibernate, and sleep were also missing whe I clicked on the arrow on the start menu. I also downloaded the registry key to get those back.

However, the problem that still remains is that when I open User Accounts in control panel, the option to change the user picture is gone and on the start menu the box that is supposed to contain the picture above my username is blank. Also under user accounts, the "Manage your file encryption certificates" option is also gone. Does anyone know how I can get these options back? Thanks.

Hi all
Previously the  "Save Picture"  box would put a web generated title in the box and automatically selected JPEG.  Now the title box reads "untitled" and the only file options offered are "png" & "bmp"

Please note that a similar post has appeared, but the solution did not match the fault.  I'm seeking to restore the automatic response to save picture, that might have been upset by antivirus clean-up programme.

Thank youin advance for considering my problem

You might check to see if it opened a window that may be hidden behind another opened window. Sometimes these windows are small and can easily be covered up.

If not, then try a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files that may be responsible. Afterwards try again.

You need to edit the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

There you will see all the different situations like disc burning, cookies, along with Pictures. Just edit the location to be the default you want and it will start saving whatever you changed (eg pictures) to that location.

I don't know about copying just the picture. Log in as an Admin on the computer with the account you want to copy and Right click My Computer/Properties/Advanced/System Profiles. Highlight the Account you want to copy (you cannot be logged into the account you want to copy) and choose Copy To. Choose a Network Share. Then Copy it to each of the computers in question that you want to have the account on. this should also include the picture.. Maybe someone can write a batch file that would send it to all of the computers in the network in one click.

Good morning (afternoon, evening) 7F. I'm new here and new to most sorts of customization as well. I am looking for help with removing (not changing) the User picture (and frame) from my Logon screen.

I have read and updated my system(s) (actually Windows 2008 x64 Servers... or Vista on steroids...) to change the user.bmp picture and guest.bmp picture to be a company logo.

It works great with one exception. The default login screen has the switch user option enabled. The last user always has the company logo but the "Other user" is always blank. Any suggestions as to how to set this "Other User" to also have the company logo?

Ideally, I would love to get rid the switch user login and have just the single page login with the username and password field blank along with the large picture of the company logo. However ... one disaster at a time ..

thanks for any help or suggestions...

Just a quick question.

I have read in some places that it is better to create two accounts on a Windows PC- a "standard user" account (used for most day to day activities) and a password protected "administrator" account for when it is necessary to install software or make system changes. Apparently, this may help to guard against malware in some instances.

Can anyone comment on whether this actually leads to any improvements in security in practice ? Is it actually worth doing most day to day PC activites as a standard user ?

Microsoft dont really mention this to the average home user.

Hi there - me again! I don't know if you can help me out with another problem...

I've picked up a trojan from clicking a link sent over aol instant messenger. The message that is now being automatically sent to people on my buddy list is:

"hey is it alright with you if i leave this picture of you on my blog? http://www.logic-hosting.nl/images/blog/images.php?&view=image32.jpg"

The original message I received was worded slightly differently, but still talking about a picture and about putting it on a blog.

I have run symatec with updated definitons and reinstalled AIM with a different version twice each. Symantec continues to find nothing (other than occasionally some spyware) and the automatic spamming of everyone on my buddy list is still happening, though often not immediately when I log on but when I've been logged on for awhile already. Symantec occasionally pops up every few hours or so saying that a backdoor was quarantined or removed, but it obviously hasn't fixed the source of the problem.

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting here, so I ask that you please bear with me :) I am a freelance computer tech who works on people's PCs in my spare time. I am working on a customer's PC now; they are an older couple who mainly uses the system for little tasks, no major gaming or media or anything (which is funny once you see some of the specs on their system), and though I have some ideas what may be wrong with it, I am unable to pinpoint anything specific, and so I turn to the experts :)

First off, some specs on their system:
It's an HP Media Center PC case, but components have been changed in it from what they've told me. It has an ECS Nettle3 Mobo with an AMD Phenom X4 9500 CPU (running 2.2GHz). The GPU is an ASUS brand nVidia 8500GT. It has 3GB RAM (2x1GB + 2x512MB). The PSU is a LiteOn PS-5301-08HA.

The reason they wanted me to look at it is because they reported that the screen would, seemingly at random, go blank, with a "No Signal" message. The CPU still seemed to be running, but nothing on screen. They said this also occasionally happened as soon as they tried to start up the PC, and would never even see the system post. But again, they said it sounded like the PC was running, but no image. I have the PC at my shop now, and I have been unable to duplicate this issue; I have run Prime95 and MSI Kombuster just to stress test the CPU and GPU, but so far everything seems to be fine. I opened the case and checked connections and ... Read more

I recently bought a new 2gb Sandisk SD card for use in my Samsung D75 digital camera. I took about 10 pictures, and a few videos on it, all of which I was able to view perfectly at first. Later however, one of the pictures was giving the message "file error" when I tried to view it via the camera, and when I transferred it to the computer the JPEG file shows as a red 'x' on Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

I have tried programs such as Pc Inspector File Recovery, ZAR etc, none of which worked. With JPEG snoop I was able to recover a blurred image, however am unsure how to continue working with this to restore the file to its original clarity.

My question:

1. Is there a way to recover this JPEG file using any sort of available program?
2. Does anyone know how to use some of the more advanced aspects/commands in JPEG snoop, and think they know how I might be able to recover this image?
3. Has anyone any other ideas of how this image may be recovered/restored?

I will happily send the corrupt JPEG file if anyone thinks they may be able to assist. The picture is very important to me and I would hate to think I will not be able to retrieve it.

Any help would be very much appreciated....

Many thanks

A:Picture on Sandisk 2Gb SD card showing "file error"

The largest card you can use in the Samsung D75 is 1 GB according to the web.

Therefore the memory management will be totally screwed in how it has saved the data, you might have a fight on your hand retrieving it.

Some background first. I have three 1920x1080 monitors. The central monitor is Landscape. The two side monitors are portrait, used for working with web browsers, code, communication . . . I find it easer to deal with large amounts of text in portrait, where I can continuously track a lot of text without tracking back and forth across the entire width of a widescreen monitor.

So, I'm trying to set a background. It works fine. It's abstract-ish, so I set the 'stretch' option. That works fine on the central monitor.

On the two side monitors, the image is compressed between the left and right sides of the screen, but does not stretch to reach the top or bottom of the screen. The extent that they seem to extend up and down seem to exactly match the dimensions and alignment of the central screen. If this is so, then it would mean that on the portrait monitors, the background is filling a 1080x1080 block in the center of a 1080x1920 display.

The only thing that functions properly is 'Tile'. None of the other options seem to produce any change in the image displayed. (In some of the options, though not all, this would be normal.)

A:Background "picture position" respected only on primary monitor.

You may try DisplayFusion: Multi-Monitor Taskbar, Multi-Monitor Screen Savers, HotKeys, Multi-Monitor Wallpaper, Windows Logon Changer and more....

This is in regards to WindowsXP's version of Microsoft Picture It! Photo.

When I open my PictureIt! program it has the last couple pics I worked on as thumbnail images under the title Recent Files. How do I delete them from there? I had saved them as jpeg files in my photos file and then deleted them from there and the trash when I was through with them. I didn't know that thumbnails of them would be displayed on the program's opening page.

Thank you.

(Sorry to be such a pest today, but I am trying to get this computer working so that it has some privacy.)

Hello, I have a problem with windows vista that I cannot figure out alone. The problem is that when I try to change my user account picture to something else, it always reverts back to the default orange flower picture on log off or restart (it DOES change the login picture, but NOT the start menu or user account pictures). I have tried everything. I fixed it temporarily by copying the my user account picture to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and renaming it "user", but I want the ability to change it without going to that hassle. I found one "solution" that told me to run regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll but it gave me an error message ("The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry point DllUnregisterServer could not be found. Please make sure "shimgvw.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and try again." or something like that). Can anybody help?

Not to be impatient, but this thread has been up for more than 2 days by my time zone. Please don't tell me this is unfixable.

Hi Everyone. I am stuck right now. I dont know exactly what happened but my account picture on Vista randomly changed to an orange flower. I can not change it through control pannel or user settings or anything. If I click on another picture to be used, nothing changes. I saw a thread for this problem here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f108...re-369825.html

This thread listed takes you to another thread with the "resolved" issue. The steps , however, that this solved thread told me to do didnt work. This is the advice that worked for the others:

"Another MVP had told me how to disable the new Win XP FAX and Picture
Previewer by going Start>Run>regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
I turned it back on with Start>Run>regsvr32 shimgvw.dll"

The problem is, if I run "regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll" I get a notice on vista saying : "The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegister Server was not found. Make sure that shimgvw.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."

I really am stuck and I dont know what to do to fix this problem. Please help, thanks

A:Account User Picture Problem

Have you tried a System Restore back to a point before this problem first appeared.
When you go to START have you double clicked on the Account picture and tried to change the Accont picture?
You could also try running SFC:

Hi all,

Some time back, I set up two user accounts on my Windows 7 PC, customised to use desk top icons from my personal photo library. Now I would like to copy these images to another Windows 7 PC. Of course I cant now remember where I got them from, and whats more cant find where they are located on the first machine. Can anyone point me to the right place?
