HP ZBook Keyboard pressing additional keys if two or more of specific sets of keys pressed.

Q: HP ZBook Keyboard pressing additional keys if two or more of specific sets of keys pressed.

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke", and "whiole".)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was playing a game earlier - 'The Division' and my enter key was pressed randomly without my doing so and then shortly after the backspace key was pressed and I know this because the chat window opened in game (pressing enter does so) and pressing backspace makes your character walk.

I've scanned my computer with Avast boot time scan, Super Anti-spyware and Malware Bytes and I am all clean. I am quite confident it is not an infection or key logger.

It hasn't happened since, so it is probably nothing, but just wondering what the cause of this would be if i am not infected? I assume it's a hardware glitch - perhaps MOBO or keyboard related?

It may need to be replaced, you could try taking apart and cleaning it.  That would allow you to see if it has membrane damage, rarely are key boards a system problem.

Hi,
I recently purchased dell xps 9560 two days back and found some weird behaviour with keyboard. At first the @ and # key was not working. Since my microsoft account password was having one of these characters, I had to reset the password before setup itself. But after the restart, it started working. The @ key problem surfaced once again, but immediately restarted and it started working. But now I'm having problems with ` and " characters. As Im typing this, on the first press both characters didnt appear, but on second press I got 2 of them, i went back and removed one of them. Is this a hardware or driver issue? Kindly refer me to the latest keyboard drivers

A:dell xps 9560 keyboard some keys need to be pressed twice

It's a keyboard problem - if still inside the first 30 days from the invoice date, ask Dell to exchange the system for a working one.

Not sure it's normal behaviour or problem related to software.---------------------------It happens like this: When I hold UP + LEFT arrow, Spacebar locks up unless I release either UP or LEFT key. But that didn't happen when I hold UP + RIGHT. Also, when holding UP + DOWN, these keys went locked: Q,W,E,R,U,I,O,P If I holds down W + S, these keys locks up (includes 8 keys from UP + DOWN): A,S,D,F,J,K,L,; For S + X, it locks everything in that row except B,N. Which means if you try to hold two keys from different rows, it locks everything in that row except two centered keys. Unaffected keys: 5,6,T,Y,G,H,B,N. (Tested on alphabets & numbers. Numpad keys excluded.) Any software fix or tweaks can unlocks these keys? Since it's obstrcuting me quite a lot when gaming.

My MSI gt60 laptop's keyboard is folded and closed with screen facing the keyboard all the way down. My external monitor tv is showing that the Onscreen Keyboard has both shift keys pressed for 5 seconds, unpresses them 5 seconds and repeats this cycle making it impossible to use the PC. I used virus scans and no water or dust could reach the keyboard since the manufacturer has plastic tape in between keys the way a new laptop has it.

I received my XPS 9560 last week, and it's a nice machine, however I'm having issues getting keys to register as being pressed.
At first, I thought that I was just getting used to the keyboard and missing some of the keys whilst typing - they work most of the time, however I've started noticing some patterns and narrowed down the cause.
Essentially, the problem occurs if I do not hit the keys exactly in the centre of key. Pressing either the edge or, more commonly, the corner will depress the key a significant amount, but apparently not enough to register as a key press. It is lost obvious when pressing either the right hand edge, or bottom right hard corner of a key.
I've put a short video together demonstrating the issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQkfZvAsiAU
(Please ignore the meowing noises in the background. Tux is a very vocal cat.)
I'm certain it's not a software issue as this has been happening across multiple Linux installs and whilst using Windows.
Is this normal behaviour and something others are able to replicate? It's killing the typing experience for me on what is otherwise a very nice to use keyboard, and may be enough for me to return the 9560.

So, I boot up my laptop and notice I can't type my password in, so I log in with my fingerprint, I open up notepad and notice that my 4 5 R T F G V B, Left Shift, and Left Ctrl keys all don't work. I also noticed that they're all keys that are staggered vertically (with the exception of the modifiers).I went to a keyboard tester site to get a visual representation of the keys that don't work.Notice the chunk in the middle of unhighlighted keys. I've taken my laptop apart before, so I pulled out the keyboard and inspected the keyboard connector and socket and found no tarnishing, bent pins, etc on them.Is there a way to diagnose if this is a keyboard or a motherboard issue?

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I'm really stumped here, I haven't tried un-installing my keyboard & re installing it but Idk what good t... Read more

A:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

A:Touchpad not working when keys pressed

Hi, Normally, you just need to turn off SmartSense or PalmCheck the Synaptics control panel - however from what I've seen, this no longer seems to work for Windows 10 versions of this driver. You may be able to get around this as follows. First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Synaptics Driver Version 17.0.18.8 Turn off your wireless card ( should be f12 ). Open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again. Open the Synaptics settings panel, disable SmartSense or PalmCheck and then check if the touchpad will now work with a keyboard key held down.  If it does, turn your wireless card back on and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating the Synaptics driver. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3073930 Regards, DP-K

As the title says, I've been trying for hours to get into the BIOS of my Lenovo PC and I simply can't. After searching online a bit, I came across a post that said (for an Intel motherboard) that the keyboard and mouse aren't recognized by the BIOS as they are USB devices and one must go into the BIOS and enable USB devices to be booted up before Windows... However, without being able to get into the BIOS I cannot achieve this stupid task that shouldn't even need to be. I've tried every combination of keys, with and without the Fn key. What brings me to the final conclusion that my keyboard isn't even recognized is the simple fact that popping a Windows disc into the machine and "pressing any key to continue" doesn't work, it times out and boots to the current Windows version. I've thought of using a PS/2 Keyboard but this Lenovo PC doesn't even have PS/2 connectors on it, so that idea had to be scrapped. The system is a ThinkCentre M82 with Windows 7 64-Bit on it. The manual itself says to use F1 at POST and when I see the Lenovo logo, it says to press Enter to interupt boot, I've hammered the Enter key and the F1 key. Nothing, absolutely zilch.

Hi,

I am using a Razer Arctosa keyboard on my desktop computer running Win7 (keyboard is approx 2 years old).

I am experiencing the following (recently, and sometimes it occasionally goes back to normal):

Pressing "w" registers "w4"
Pressing "W" (shift + w) registers "W$"
Pressing "4" registers "w4"
Pressing "$" (shift + 4) registers "W$"
(As if "w" and "4" are linked; occasionally it registers as "4w")

Pressing "u" registers "u" and F5.
(which means when I am typing and press the "u" it refreshes my page... this is the second time I am writing this...)

Pressing the Windows key registers NumLock toggle.

Pressing "7" registers "/7"

This is all of the weird ones I have noticed. All other keys seem normal.
As I type this it has done the above, but now it is back to normal. Cannot find a pattern when it decides to change from crap to normal. It is back to crap again.
This is the 4th day since it started and the computer has been restarted/shutdown various times.
I have also checked for malware and it is all clear.
The most recent keyboard drivers have been downloaded and installed, but did not fix it.
No liquids have been spilled.
Have searched the web and have not encountered a solution (or someone with the exact kind of problem).
Anyone has any idea of a fix or what may be affecting it?

A:Keyboard: some keys registering 2 keys

Pretty much every time I see this it's due to something spilled on the keyboard that has damaged it or just a keyboard that has failed.

Test it on another computer, if it does the same thing then it needs to be replaced. On the other computer don't load any drivers or software for it just plug it in and wait for Windows to install it's drivers for it and test it.

"Pokemon" it will type "0p9ok3em9on" So yea, ignore the numbers and you will see, also same vice verse with the corresponding numbers shown beside the letter.
I am sure it is not a virus, very possibly sure. The only way for me to type "normal" is to have caps lock on and press shift at the time I press a letter.

Edit: Okay my keyboard is back to normal, you can delete this post if you want, but I think the cause of it was the windex I used to clean the screen and keyboard, my damn cat is always licking the screen trying to get the mouse. But yea I will be careful next time on amount of windex I use.

A:Keyboard malfunctioning "specific keys"

i hope the windex doesn't poison your cat!

I am having an issue with installing windows 7 on a Samsung RV510.
The first time i tried it took 3 hours to expand files a further few hours to install (before reboot) then was taking ages again on completing installation. I didnt want to finish the install as i knew something wasnt quite right.

I changed the bios to default settings, checked ram and used seagate tools to test the hdd.

Everything seemed fine so i tried again

the same thing was happening again when i happened to click the mouse, once i done that the installation jumped up 30% then started going slow again, i again clicked the mouse and it shot through the rest of the installation very fast.

Windows loaded up but hung on the preparing desktop screen, i again clicked the mouse and it quickly finished and brung up the desktop. The laptop now does everything fine apart from a slight delay on loading windows and it is currently doing the updates altho these updates seem to hang until i click the mouse or tap the keyboard.

Its like the laptop is going to sleep (altho the screen is still on) until i press something

any idea of what could be causing this?

thanks in advance

edit to add: i have checked for a bios update from samsung but the one on their website is older than the one currently installed.

A:windows 7 freezing until pressing keys or mouse

What are the specs of your laptop?

Hello - new guy here. I'm on an old compaq presario laptop and when I am on the internet using IE8 or Firefox, if I press any of the number keys, the IE 8/Firefox help window appears. For example, if I am typing a password that contains a number in it, a help window immediately appears. Anyone know why this is happening and how I can stop this from launching?

thanks

New laptop but FN Keys not working properly. I have seen a few comments about this already but no real fix. I have tried three versions of software, 6.2.17.1, 6.2.18.1 and 6.2.20.8, SP74473, and sp76021. The brightness keys and Microphone keys do not work. Audio volume does however.

I am experiencing 2 problems.

The first problem I am experiencing is that sometimes while typing, my letters will backspace by one like I pressed backspace my self. I don't know what caused this,.

The 2nd is that sometimes while I'm browsing through my computer, the start menu will appear as If I have pressed the windows key. Yet I have not done this. I appreciate any help I could get.

A:Computer is deleting keys while typing without pressing backspace.

Try a different keyboard, please.

For comparative purposes, if nothing else.

Louis

Everytime I need to Increase/Decrease my volume level or screen brightness, I need to press the Fn key + the wanted button. How can I disable the Fn key and work the function keys directly? Please don't link me the article that tells me to go into BIOS options and turn it off from there, that option is simply not there!

Hello There is a feature in Lenovo Ideapad 310 which is being annoying to me: the trackpad is deactivated when I press a key in the keyboard. How this can be configured on Xubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu Mate 16.04 and on Asus M2400Ne with a Synaptics device, looks like this is solely a software issue, but I was not able to find where is this configuration on Windows 10. The Windows 10 options in Configurations-> Devices-> Mouse and Touchpad had no effect, even the option to delay the time between I use the keyboard and click was not effective. Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse had no option to change this too. I have searched and found this topic, but I am seriously concerned regarding messing with Windows registries. I do not want to change registries I do not know because I need the capability to boot the computer after this. I tried to find the registries cited on that topic, but could not find them. Is there a option somewhere which I can deactivate this behaviour? All drivers are updated using the System Update program that came installed on the computer. Windows 10 is updated too. Thank you.

I just purchased this laptop about a month ago for school and it has been working great. However, I have run into an issue where the trackpad does not work while pressing other keys on the keyboard. Things I've Tried: - PalmCheck, there is apparently no Synaptics touchpad driver on this computer, nor can I install one as far as I've seen. - Registry Editor, I tried following the path that several support sides recommend, but there is no "Elantech" anywhere. Computer is running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
