PF Usage in TaskManager

Q: PF Usage in TaskManager

My PF Usage in TaskManager doubles the increase when I open a new tab in the Internet Explorer. It shouldn't increase that much. Can anyone help me with this problem? I have posted my new log of HiJackThis! I would be mostly appreciated. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings, been away awhile but have a busy CPU question. At idle, one of my CPUs (dual core AMD 3800) oscillates. It continues to do this even when I shut down all user processes. Performance seems ok. I don't understand why it is doing this. I will attach a .gif screen capture. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions on diagnosing.

A:CPU Usage in taskmanager

Did you try sorting the process list by CPU usage and seeing which ones figure at the top?

Use an advanced process monitor like Process Explorer from Sysinternals. It will show you system processes too.

Most likely it is your firewall or antivirus hogging the machine. Are you a Norton or Zonealarm user?

Just recently I noticed that the CPU is going all the time (The bottom of the laptop is very hot to the touch; and I can hear the CPU fan constantly going). Even when I get the CPU usage down < 5%, I can still hear it. Also, when I disconnect it from the outlet; the battery drains FAST. In the past it the laptop quiets down and cools off if left idle for awhile, so this is something that is happening recently.

After noticing it, I ran a scan with MBAM - it found and removed a few Malware.Trace registry keys but that didn't seem to help.

Anyway, thanks to everyone in advance for all your help (It really is appreciated)

Hi,

some days ago, when analyzing another problem, i stumbled upon a fatal error in the CPU performance display in the Microsoft task manager. I wrote a little bit about this problem in the following post.

https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2269972-weird-4gbit-s-nic-limit-without-rss?page=1#entry-8853...

In summary: for me, the task manager as well as the resource monitor and the performance monitor do not show the correct CPU utilization.

Here is an example.

I start a test and the CPU display of core 0 climbs to 100% in Task Manager.

The Resource Monitor shows the same thing.

Only the performance monitor shows the correct load, but the display it "inconsistent".

The processor load is normally shown up to max. 100%, but my core 0 run according to the performance monitoring with up to 120%. ??

The Process Explorer shows the correct utilization of my core 0.

HWiNFO also shows the load correctly.

I suddenly had the following apprehension.
If you cannot correctly measure the utilization of a system, so it's not possible to control its performance properly. ??

So I immediately opened a support ticket at Microsoft by telephone and then described the problem accordingly by email.

A few hours later I received an email with the following text. "Dear Mr. Fuchs, your support case has been closed."

???
That can not be true. ?
Dear Microsoft, determining and displaying the CPU loa... Read more

Hello,

Is there any way to know what minimum pgm's are necessary to run in the task manager? Bigbear gave me some good info on a virus that I just discovered, but if I knew what the min. programs were that are supposed to run in the task manager screen then maybe I could eliminate those unnecessary processes that may be viruses etc. I obviously don't want to just go end process to one at a time to see what happens....Do I?

thanks,

chad

Check the process name on Google first....that should give you a good idea.

I don't know how to get to task manager on Windows VISTA. Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't work, it doesn't give me the option to go to task manager, task managed isn't even mentioned on the window that pops up.

When you right click on the taskbar a little menu pops up, and task managed is one of the options, but it's grayed out so I can't select it.

I read on the Internet that pressing Cntrl+shift+escape brings it up, but when I press it nothing happens.

When I press ctrl+alt+delete the usual screen pops up with the option to lock the computer, turn it off log off etc. Every option that's supposed to be there is there except for Task Manager.

Also, I'm the head administrator, only administrator actually.

Help?

Hello XBlaxicanX

Welcome to TSF

It sounds like you have a disabled task manager

Luckily there is an easy way to fix this

Easy way

1. Download the Registry Fix
2. Once downloaded, double click and select ok
3. Reboot may be required

Restore from a previous backup before the problem started. DO a repair install, or re-install the OS

Basicly when I click a link in mIRC or AIM, IE and/or FireFox doesnt come up and AIM/mIRC locks up. I have never had this problem before and now my computer wants to start acting up. You might take at http://forums.techguy.org/t110854.html, scroll down to Parasitic.

Download and run SpyBot S&D, update and run it. If that doesn't help do the same with HiJack and post the log in the Security Forum.

A:help taskmanager gone

Greetings, and welcome to TSF!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum wadzxxx My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems. You are using Download Accelerator Plus - DAP. Be informed that it delivers popup/popunder ads,and tracks your internet usage. You can find safer alternatives here:http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=dlman#dlmanI strongly suggest you remove this program. If you agree, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove 'Download Accelerator Plus' if present, then restart your pc.If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.Now download Combofix and save to your desktop:Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop Close any open browsers. Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts. When it's finished it will produce a log. Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply. Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause the program to freeze/hang. Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.*NOTE*In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again. Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them. Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Hi -Just a very brief answer -Why Are There So Many svchost.exes Running? If you've ever taken a look at the Services section in control panel you might notice that there are a Lot of services required by Windows. If every single service ran under a single svchost.exe instance, a failure in one might bring down all of Windows? so they are separated out. Those services are organized into logical groups, and then a single svchost.exe instance is created for each group. For instance, one svchost.exe instance runs the 3 services related to the firewall. Another svchost.exe instance might run all the services related to the user interface, and so on.Thank You -

Have had some problemes with TaskManager wich is disablet. Gone through several guides to change Registry setting without any succes.

SOme other observations:
1. I cant change the ActiveX settings in Explorer 7. I can change the tickerboxes in the ActiveX control meny under Internet Optuins - Security - Custom Level but are not allowed to apply (button disablet)
2. Run NOD and TrendMicro scans which are clean now. Spybot discouvers every scan a Registry TaskManager problem. After fixing in Spybot the TaskManager still is disablet and a new scan shows the same problem (same routine i Safe Mode - does make TaskManager available)
3. Registry changes woth disabling TaskManager config doesnt seem to get registered. I can change the values but they reappear instantly.

Hi, I'm new to this, but after both Norton Internet Security and Ad-Aware failed to get rid of adware, I've tried this. Norton has been blocking both 'Adware.Purityscan' and 'Downloader' as being adware, but does not find and remove it, nor does Ad-Aware. I can no longer use taskmanager or regedit. Here is my log, hopefully you can help me. I know there's a search hook in there - should I get rid of that?

I recently had a bout with some malware claiming to be my antivirus warning me of an infection (and then trying to sell me their product). I of course searched this, realised it was an infection and spent about 5-6 hours combating it. I tried every trick on the internet, but the only thing that worked was downloading Avira and letting it do a full scan (AVG and a few others were useless). So, I no longer have the "you're infected" background to my computer, and I'm not getting any popups. One problem persists though, I can't access my "task manager" which the virus no doubt blocked from me to prevent me from stopping it easily. When I click on task manager it says "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." Well, I am the administrator (there being only 1 account on this pc).. So is this something easy I can fix by simply going into some administrator settings and clicking on to allow it, or is there a bigger problem here (possibly the persistence of the malware). I could probably find this if I searched around for a while, but I'm kind of exhausted from searching all day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
