I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).

CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)

Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)

One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.

A:Compatible, or not compatible, that is the question.

why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.

I just got 2 2gb sticks of Balistix Crucial. Can I still fill my last two dimm slots with my old RAM? 2 1gb sticks of OCZ. They are both 800mhz pc6400. The crucial RAM has CL-4-4-4-12. The ocz RAM is 4-5-5. My mobo guide says to use the RAM with the same CAS Latenc. Which number is the CAS Latency? My bios says its the first number, the 4. So far no problems with this setup but ive only had it for an hour or two.

A:Compatible RAM?

You need to check the maximum amount of RAM supported by your motherboard.

And yes, the first number in the timings is the CAS latency.

I have the ASUS M5A88-M motherboard. I have used 3 different SSD's of size 120GB successfully. I now have had a problem with 3 separate Kingston 240GB SSD's (not seen by computer, or intermittently). ASUS help was minimal, but it was suggested perhaps this motherboard is incompatible with an SSD of that large size.
Any legitimacy to that idea?
Thanks.

A:SSD Not Compatible?

Very peculiar.

But I've never heard of a motherboard making a distinction between an HDD of a certain size and an SSD of the same size. Does the mobo accept 240 and above HDDs?

So i have a noob question, but im getting quite confused looking at PSU's for my Asus P5Q PRO motherboard.

The manual says it needs a 24 pin main connector and an 8 pin 12v cpu connector.

The pictures on newegg for the PSU's usually just show a picture of the main connector and the cpu power but it just shows a 4 pin, but under "features" it will say either say "1 x 12V(4/8Pin)" or "1 x 12V(P4)" and "1 x 12V(8Pin)" below it.

Do all ATX12V / EPS12V PSUs come with an 8 pin 12v connector or what?

Also when it tells how many rails it has whether it be single or 3 or whatever, what does that mean. I'd like to make sure i get a PSU thats compatable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If your current board has AMD video, yes it'll work.  If you now have Intel, you'll also need to replace the heatsink assembly (the one for Intel won't fit the AMD and vice-versa) and if you have a 65W power adapter, you'll need 90W or better for the AMD board.

Hi, so i have a Pavilion p7-1010a Desktop PC and i bought a GPU recently and had trouble making it work. The GPU isMSI GTX 750 TI. You can find all the info about it from this website https://us.msi.com/Graphics-card/N750-Ti-2GD5OC.html#hero-overview. Problem:When i put the graphics card in and booted the computer up, it got stuck on the boot up screen saying "Press ESC key for startup menu" however no matter what i pressed nothing happened, and then after around a minute or two, it proceeded into a black screen sort of like a CMD but in fullscreen, and nothing happens after that.I have done lots of googling and tried different methods to get the GPU to work, such as taking cmos batter off and putting it back in, buying a new power supply, disabling the integrated graphics, messing with the rams, updating bios from 7.13 to 7.16 and possibly more that i forgot about. There were also methods that i could not do because my bios menu does not have much options. None of these made the slightest difference.I have recorded a video of it to demonstrate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=camVAA4HagE Question:  I saw on somewhere ( forgot where ) that my bios needs to be UEFI for the GPU to work, is this true? my bios says legacy. What do you recommend? A:usb not compatible

Does the mp3 player have any kind of extension cards, like cameras usually have? (like a SD card for instance)
If so you can just put your songs on that card through a card reader
If not ...it would be much more helpful if you tell us about make and model of that player
There might be drivers out there for Vista or even XP which (with a little luck) you could install in compatibility mode

A:MSE not compatible

MSE stopped with Win 7 and has been replaced with built in Windows Defender on Win 8. 3rd party anti virus all have pros and cons and are a matter of choice whether to install them or not. Often they will react differently on different computers.

I personally use only WD and Malwarebytes Pro only. They have served me well and have had no problems. There are many posts in this forum showing the benefits of one or the other. As always, use common sense when visiting unknown sites and don't open unsolicited email attachments.

Hello all,

I recently bought an extra 1GB of RAM for my computer after buying a new graphics card (nvidia 8600 GT) as I wanted to be able to play more demanding games. The problem started when Warhammer Mark Of Chaos kept freezing, so I thought I'd upgrade. I got the graphics card, got the RAM installed, but the problem still occurred from time to time. I installed FreeRAM XP which frees up RAM occasionally and this helped a little, but the extra GB of RAM seems to have made no difference.

I read somewhere that althoug your computer recognises the extra RAM, the motherboard can't use it. Is this true, and how do I tell if my RAM is actually being used or if I've bought a useless piece of kit!?

Thanks.

A:USB 3.0 compatible with USB 2.0

Hi there,

If your External hard drive is a USB 2.0 device, you will not see an increase in performance by plugging it into a USB 3.0 socket on your computer. There will not be an advantage to you using a usb 3.0 cable in your USB 2.0 device either. I would use your original cable that came with the external hard drive.
Unfortunately you will be stuck on usb 2.0 speeds as far as I am aware.

It is compatible, but the ease in setting it up will depend on how Frys setup the existing system. Why don't you just ask them. They should have no problem in telling you what you want to know. They may think you are going to buy the drive at Frys... no need to tell them, unless they ask.

Hello!
So i want to build a new computer from (almost) scratch, these are the parts i want to put in:
AMD A6-7400K

asus H61M - K

Crucial 4GB DIMM DDR3 1600MHz, PC3-12800 240-Pin, CL11, 1.5V, NON-ECC, 512 Meg x 64

CX430

R7 240

I'm getting these parts from this video:

but i'm changing some of the parts, because (for example) i don't think i need 8gb of ram to play games.

So the questions i have are:
1- Is everything compatible?
2- Does it really matter if i switch the Asus A78M-E for the Asus H61M - K?
3- Is my power supply (CX430) enough for this build? if so, what kind of power supply do i need? because they are very confusing to me.
4- Can i use my hard drive that i use at the moment with a lot of data (it's not old, and doesn't have any defects) or should i use a completely new hard drive (it's kind of the same, but never used) Thanks.

Hey mate,

The motherboard (H61M-K) will not be compatible with the CPU (AMD A6-7400K). I think it might be better if you give us some information on what games you are wanting to play because the parts and budget you are looking at is going to have some big limitations. On average for playing recent/new games these days I'd recommend 8GB of RAM, Quad Core CPU, Graphics card varies on what you want to play the power supply you listed is a good brand (Corsair) and the 80Plus Bronze is okay.

hey guys, on my current desktop pc I have 4gb of ram but ive noticed it beginning to slow down (the computer is now 4 years old and has not be altered since I custom built it).

the current ram i have is Corsair CMP4GX3M2A1600C8 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 and i was thinking about adding Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY8GX3M2A1600C9R 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 which would total the ram to 12gb

i was wondering if it was possible to mix these rams and have them both in the computer at once making full use of the 4 ram slots i have available on my motherboard or if i would replace the current 4gb with the new 8gb.

thanks guys

Hello,

I've used TechGuy.org before, but mainly for issues with service programs and more detailed problems on the software side of computers - but as I venture out and upgrade/buy new PC's I seem to have missed a sure-fire way to find out what hardware is compatible with what other hardware. Namely the mobo -> graphics card/RAM interaction. I don't know exactly what I have as far as a Motherboard, but I do have information from a common program in CPU-Z, which is as follows:

Mainboard:
---- Motherboard ----
- Manufacture: ECS
- Model: Nettle 1.0
- Chipset: NVIDIA MCP61 Rev. A1
- Southbridge: NVIDIA MCP61
- Sensor: ITE 8726
---- BIOS ----
- Brand: Phoenix Technologies, LTD.
- Version: 5.03
- Date: 3/02/2007

CPU:
---- Processor ----
- Name: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
- Code Name: Brisbane
- Brand ID: 4
- Package: Socket AM2 (940)
- Technology: 65 nm
- Voltage: 1.328

Memory:
---- RAM ----
- Type: DDR2
- Channels #: Dual
- Size: 2048 MB
- Frequency: 251 MHz
I was looking to upgrade my NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (128MB) to a higher series (7's or 8's) of the NVIDIA; preferably 256MB-512MB.

Any good deals would be great aswell, but just common knowledge on what I should look for when buying a graphics card would be nice.

Also, any knowledge on what RAM I should buy to be compatible. I assume any DDR2 sticks should do the trick, but I want to make sure before making a purchase.

Thanks alot!

Zach

I need to burn a data CD in XP so that it will preserve long filenames and extensions when accessed on a Mac. I currently have Roxio Easy CD Creater software installed on my PC, but the last CD I burned did not preserve the long filenames. Any suggestion on how to resolve this? Can this be achieved using drag-and-drop technique instead of using Roxio?

Can anyone offer any suggestion on freeware/shareware that will preserve long filenames when burning a CD? Don't forget that I will be creating the CD in WinXP, but the CD must be readable in both XP and Mac.

Thanks

A:XP & Mac compatible CDs

Last time i tried to burn a data cd using roxio 5 dvd edition unregistered, it made the file names all strange, so i used nero 5. Ive also done it using XP burner too.

I read somewhere that although your computer recognises the extra RAM, the motherboard can't use it. Is this true, and how do I tell if my RAM is actually being used or if I've bought a useless piece of kit!?

Thanks.
