Special effects

Q: Special effects

Im not sure if this is the right thread to post this but close enough...

I am going on to uni to study special effects and was wandering what would be the best specification PC for this job. Any info on this subject would be great.

I was also considering whether to get a PC or a Mac so any advice in regards to that would also be much appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Special effects

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to burn music with the same effects that I can play it with on my computer.
TO EXPLAIN......My soundcard (Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1) allows me to listen to music with very many different effects that are pleasing to my ear, such as reverb or echo etc. I would like to burn this same music to disc with the same effects, to play on my home and truck stereo. I'm sure there must be a way to do this, but I guess I need some help. Any thoughts are appreciated.
I run XP PRO and burn with Nero. Thanks.......Joe

A:Can I burn audio CD's with special effects ??

What you could do is play the music and at the same time record it from your soundcard. I'm not sure if have any software that does recording, but there is a freeware program called Audacity that you could use to record and edit the music.

You would record some songs as a wav file, edit the songs to create one file per song, and then when you have a bunch of wav files, burn a disc with Nero. Also remember to turn off windows sounds so you don't accidentally record an error beep or something at the same time you're recording the music.

Nothing really important, however new to me.

I received an email today, with a Word doc attachment. The doc said the following:

I knew that at exactly 5:04 today you would open this
e-mail and be goofing off, as usual!!!.

And, I also know you just looked at the time, so don’t deny it! Click to expand...

Simple, however the doc is tied into my computer's clock, as the time changes ( in this case 5:04) with the clock respectfully.

Can somebody tell me how to replicate this effect and how it's done?

Here the doc, which I uploaded: Goofing Off

A:Word doc. (Special Effects Question)

It is a field that has been inserted into the file. The field is recalculated every time the document is opened meaning that whatever the time is on your computer is what will appear in the field.

In Word 2003, click the Insert menu and click "Date and Time". Select the appropriate Date and Time format and in the bottom right hand corner of the dialog box, check the box "Update automatically" then click OK.

Whenever you open this document, the current date or date and time (depending on which format you picked) will be displayed

Here's the scoop:

1. downloaded grants tools into my pse 5 (vista)
2. Discovered under palette that all the original filters under special effects had disappeared(colored pencil, crayon, etc)
3. Uninstalled grants tools
4. uninstalled pse 5, reinstalled with the firewall off
5. Opened up an image in pse5, 8 bit, discovered that thumbnails were back in special effects filters, but each time I clicked on the filters, got error message: "Command for (fill-in special effect filter) not currently available.
6. I opened up the directory and i can actually see the files for the special effects filters IN THERE....
7. I also tired uninstalling, and loading in the non-vista pse 5, then loading in the patch....still didn't work.

8. I've lsot almost all the filters in the special effects catagory -- nobody can figure out why!
Also -- the "Filter Gallery" in the pull down is greyed out, also

After searching for some time, I decided to post a thread on this. I can't put an exact word to it, but I'm looking for a program or a tweak that can have someone move a window like you would with the "extra effects" tweak in Ubuntu (I've seen this feature since 9.04). If someone knows what I'm talking about, is there a certain word that I should use? I mean, a link to a program would be the best, but I've looked for a while about this, and haven't found anything on it. Yet.

If you need a screenshot of what I'm talking about I can open up a VB window and take a quick screenshot for you guys.

More than likely your Registry Cleaner has messed up your Windows registry causing your problems.
You might try doing a System Restore to a date/time before you used your Registry Cleaner.

Please check out these links.

I have two Dell Inspiron 17R 7720 laptops. My "old" one I bought direct from Dell in 2012, the "new" one, advertised as an "Inspiron 17R 7720 Special Edition",  I bought on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. I still have the original paperwork for the old one from when I purchased it from Dell and there is no mention of "Special Edition" in the paperwork. Both are identified only as "Inspiron 7720" on the label on the underside of the computer, and there are no "Special Edition" markings or labeling anywhere on the new computer.
Hardware is pretty much identical, 1TB Samsung ST1000LM024HN HDDs, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000/Nvidia GeForce GT 650M Video/3D graphics, Backlit Keyboard on both. The only hardware differences are the old computer has an Intel Core i7-3610QM processor (specified by me when I ordered the computer) and a 32GB mSATA SSD while the new computer has an Intel Core i5-3210M processor and no mSATA SSD.
So what makes the "Special Edition" so special? Is there REALLY anything different about "Special Edition" computers, or was that just some sort of marketing hype?

A:What is so special about an Inspiron 17R 7720 "Special Edition"?

The mSATA cache drive was one of the differentiators.  When that system was built, SSDs were appreciably more expensive than they are now.

I recently upgraded to Office 2010...all was fine until recently i had this weird problem in Power Point '10.

I added an Entrance effect to a picture quite easily...but when I tried to add an Exit effect I found out that the Entrance effect was being overwritten in the "Animation Pane".
Again on re-adding the Entrance effect..the Exit effect was being overwritten.

FYI this is happening with everything (pics, text boxes, smart art).It seems you can't add two different effects to the same item.
It should be noted that I experienced no such problems with Power Point 2007...there the Entry and Exit effects were added in separate lines in the Animation Pane.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I've created a very short video clip/animation in adobe after effects, and I want to put it into a powerpoint presentation. I'm quite new at this stuff, and was just wondering what format I should save the video/animation in to make it quite small but still good quality?

Thanks all

A:After Effects

I'm not familiar with either but under the assumption you can embed any type of video in a Powerpoint presentation I'd suggest either WMV or MPEG1. MPEG1 has decent compression but the biggest benefit is it will play on just about any OS.

Having said that WMV will give you the same quality at a much lower smaller file size, at least 1/4 or better. If After Affects won't output as a WMV which it probably doesn't output as an uncompressed AVI then use Windows Movie Maker to convert it to WMV. You can also download Windows Media Encoder from MS's site for free which will give you many more encoding options than Movie Maker.

There are other formats with the same quality/compression qualities like Divx but it's not going to be compatible on many machines.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

I have a computer thats a few years old. A friend of mine had a computer shop with top-notch equipment laying around and just threw it together for me one day. I do plenty of downloading and all that. Its always ran very well with its 896MB RAM and 1.21G Processor. A few nights ago it started rebooting itself, and after a few times would start rebooting itself while still trying to load Windows. I unhooked the ethernet wire and tried to start Windows, everything went fine untill I plugged the wire back in and opened internet explorer. I figured I just got a virus and tried to reformatt everything and for three nights it would freeze in the middle of loading the boot disc and such. finally it made it thru the install..... all TEN HOURS of it! It went so unbelivably slow and now that windows is installed it takes about 15 min just to get to the welcome screen and another 20 untill I can actually open anything on my desktop. I've changed my RAM chips to any different possiable combination, including each one by itself. I have a seperate back-up hard drive that I've also tried to install Windows on to no avail. I think it maybe my processor. Is there any test I could get to find out or any other ideas that may help? Im usually good at this stuff myself but right now im totally stumped.

In a couple of days, I will have two PCs and two monitors. That sounds totally typical and understandable, but NOT in the configuration I have in mind. I will be working on one pc at a time, using two monitors at a time, and then I will (somehow ) switch to the other pc and use the same two monitors with this other pc.

Each PC already has the kind of video card that will allow dual monitor useage. What I need is to know how to set this gear up to work the way I need it to work.

Someone said I might be able to use two KVM switches (somehow). But I need to know what to buy and how to connect it up. Will it be some fancy A/B switch of some sort? Or some kind of special KVM cable or box? Maybe two?

Surely this configuration has been done before. If you are someone who knows the best way to do this, I'd be grateful to tap into your knowledge on the subject.

Thank you.

Well... I used to know and remember how to do this, but it has been so long since I have, I have no idea anymore...

Anyway... when you visit a lot of websites, and you put your mouse over a link, the background behind the link (literally almost the background of the cell/table) will change colors. I need to know how to do this. I know there's a lot of JavaScript crap out there, but usually all that does is turn the color of just the link (like highlighting it), not changing the color of the cell it is in, which is what I am looking for.

Any help is appreciated

I am running Vista Home Premium (64bit version) with Service Pack 1 & have admin rights. I have all the latest drivers (especially for my video card) installed.

I don't want ANY Vista effects AT ALL and have tried for the last couple of days to disable them... all efforts have failed.

I recently re-arranged a couple hdmi inputs on my TV. one of those inputs was for my PC.

when I next turned my PC on, I relized straight away that it looked a little odd. I don't know how to describe it properly, apart from it looking 'odd'.

I fiddled around with the TV's display and picture options (dynamic, standard, movie etc), which all changed it, but nothing i tried looked right. I then chose standard and reset the options for standard to it's own default. windows still looked a little odd.

I went on to fiddling about with nvidia graphic controls, set them to their defaults, which made windows look a little flushed out, and a little dark. I tried the optimization wizard, which made everything rediculously dark. so dark, you could hardly see anything.

I set everything back to default again, and also tried going through my TV's options, but to no avail. nothing looked right! dynamic is too bright, while keeping blacks very dark. standard just doesn't look right and movie gives an almost sepia affect.

However, after fiddling about some more with manual settings, i managed to find a decent level of viewing. Problem is, that some strange effects have popped up. for instance, on my desktop, I have an image which has a light source in it. If I use a window (say my documents), and cover up that light source in the picture, everything around it darkens!

another thing is that when i move something around (a window, or an icon or something), the desktop wa... Read more

Hello All,

I am hoping you people out there will. =) Ok here it is… I removed all my fonts from my fonts folder (Please don’t ask why) after putting them back. I lost my Transition Effects… Now if I go the Display Properties/Appearance/effect… Transition Effects for menus, cleartype and Hide underlined letters are all grayed out. Does anyone out there have any idea how do get those options to work again…

Thanks in advance.

A:Transition Effects... Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried Tweak UI's Repair Font option?

If it does not fix your problem try reinstalling Windows, which should overlay the damage setting.

when I browse to http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/ and click TRY it redirects to a login page, have you registered with them in order to download the product? If so you will probably receive some emails asking you to activate/verify your account.

Once you've done the above I imagine you'll be able to login and download the file

Not sure if its the right place but maybe Firefox is responsible.
Here is the thing.
When i open a website to watch video for example Youtube, IGN,Gametrailers, etc
then if i go to open any other program on my PC it will take like 5-10 minutes to open(it depends on the program).
The browsing on Firefox doesn't slowing down which means i can continue do my things. When i done i can't Shut down my PC from the Start i have to close MANUALLY (press the button that boot my PC for 8 seconds).
I haven't try to use an other browser to see if really Firefox is responsible but if it is neccesary i will do it.
This thing start it like 3 weeks ago and my pc its not a Junk :) it was working like a charm 1 and a half year now.
I hope u can help me.

Welcome to TSF!!

I would like you to try something for me. FF is usually a ram hog, I would like you to open Task Manager, then go to the processes tab. Next find FF and see how many KB of ram it is using, while normal usage. Now I would like you to try and open a program as you descibed and see if your ram usage goes up or down with FF.

Next I would like you to look at the processes tab and see if there is anything else that is eating your ram up other than FF. If so write them down.

Third: I would like you to open Task Manager and then click on the performance tab. Look at the CPU and Ram categories write down how much RAM and CPU and being used. Then try and open a program as normal, then follow how high the RAM and CPU go and for long it lasts.

When you come back post all that information for me.

This is my second time I've experienced the BSOD. The first caused me to re-install my OS because the PC was relatively new (custom built). The system is about 5months old even.

Now it has occurred again while editing in adobe after effects. I can surf the net, play music and open programs without any crashes. But when I use after effects it occurs. However the first time it happened I was not able to do anything as the BSOD appeared in a minutes time after boot.

I have the latest BIOS and have done systems scans yet nothing.
ALSO, I just inspected my Hardware and realised on my front fans have died. Would this cause the BSOD? Also, can I still use the system without the fan until the day when I can purchase one, as I have alot of work to get done.

I've attached the the dump files:

Thank you.

PS- first time posting hope it was clear enough

Yes, it's possible.

What I would do until you can get the fans running again would be to take one of the side covers off, and point a fan into the case. AC would be nice.

Just be careful if you have children or pets around, and warn the DW if you have one.
Your .dmps point to AfterFX.exe as the cause of your problem, and with it being graphics intensive, that would cause more heat build-up.

A:BSOD; sometimes using After Effects

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).

Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win... Read more

I am buying an LCD monitor and someone was saying how that you had to enable this one text thing so that LCD look good. You right click on the desktop go proerties then appearance then go to effects then go to clear type in the second drop down menu. (windows xp) I am still using my CRT monitor and i notice a difference in the text? Does this really change anything that much? should I leave it as clear type or standard? Or is it a personal preferance? Thanks

I recently had a virus on my system in the form of a URL Redirecting virus. I used several programs to combat it:
CCleaner (didn't help)
Hijackthis (tried deleting some of the stuff it said, no benefit)
RootkitRevealer (didn't know how to interpret the data)
Combofix (seemed to do stuff but didn't get rid of problem)
Spybot S&D (found usual stuff but no help)
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (got rid of the virus)

After doing this there have been several unwanted changes to my computer:
1. Whenever I log on I have to right-click the network icon (right in the taskbar) > "diagnose and repair" > "restart DHCP".
2. Large and extra-large icons are plain white unless I change them, then there a large pixelated folder.
3. I keep getting the annoying user account control message when im trying to do something for administrators. I originally turned this off and the checkbox for this in the control panel is unchecked but it still persists and it won't let me turn it on and off again.
4. There seems to be two csrss.exe processes running.

Thank you in advance for any help.
NOTE: Computer came with Windows Vista Home Premium already installed, I have no windows disc

Bump. Problem still persisting, few changes:
1. Forgot to mention computer is now saying "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." at launch.
2. There was an error relating to ntload.dll that stopped appearing at startup so I didn't mention it but it is still appearing on the other user.
3. Seems to be a big problem with UAC, the other user account can't use the internet because it doesn't have the rights to, although it is now an administrator just like the main account.
4. Icon problem was fixed after putting my computer into safe mode and restarting it.

My computer, os win xp, had some variation of the Vundo virus; false antivirus popups, registry changes, the usual. At this point i've run both vundofix and Malwarebytes and removed everything that they found, but i'm still unable to turn on my automatic updates in the computer management services area. To the best of my knowledge the virus itself is gone. Here's the DDS test, the others are attached as instructed.

You can download animated wallpaper if you really wish to..
Search for
wallpaper animation
Animated Wallpaper For Windows | DesktopAnimated.com

This claims to animate photos to create them:
Animated Wallpaper Maker - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

This will take up system resources, of course.
