Windows 7 cannot access Windows 10 1709 (SMB Issue)

Q: Windows 7 cannot access Windows 10 1709 (SMB Issue)

Hi,
I have seen already some threads about this topic, but none seem to cover my issue.
With the latest Windows 10 Update, I cannot access the computer by \\computername anymore from a Windows 7 PC, but without any problem from a Windows Server 2008 R2. The error message I always receive is:
The specific network name is no longer available.
So, what I did was, I activated in Windows 10 the SMB 1.0 Server feature and it worked, so I got suspicious. Why does my Windows 7 does not support SMB >1. I checked the registry and neither SMB 1 or 2 seemed to be deactivated. So I guess maybe it has
something to do with the Security Settings of the GP.
Both computers are in a 2003 domain level, have direct access to each other, and firewalls are deactivated. I attached a picture of our default domain policy and hope someone has an idea.
Thanks Stephan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I have a successful CA environment working in a Windows 2012 R2-based domain. Recently, some user certificates expired, and when they went to the web page to get a new certificate (https://cert-server/certsrv) using IE 11 on Windows 10 Pro build 1709, they
can go through the pages but the second (https://cert-server/certsrv/certrqus.asp) and third (https://cert-server/certsrv/certrqbi.asp?type=0) pages do not finish loading, no popups asking for permission happen, and when you click 'Submit', you get an error
saying that you can't submit yet because the page hasn't finished loading. (This seems to be a true statement, as evidenced by no list populated if you look at the CSP dropdown box.) This is unique to build 1709. If a user on any lower version of Win 10 Pro
tries the same thing, they succeed in getting their cert.
Has anyone seen this behavior before? It is not a problem with enabling Active Scripting - it is already active. Compatibility mode makes no difference. In our particular environment, web enrollment is the only thing open to us currently. Auto-enrollment
through GPO or other means are not available.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I have attempted to load Essentials for Windows version 1709 numerous times on my NuVision Windows 10 tablet/PC to no avail. I have run the troubleshooter, deleted the software distribution downloads numerous times. I finally went to a Microsoft store with my NuVision and downloaded the update; however, due to time constraints I was unable to let it complete the installation. The technician said it should pick right back up where it left off after rebooting. This did not happen. An on-line chat with Microsoft recommended downloading the the Windows Installation Tool, which I did. It now has run through the download and is showing the small blue box with the Windows logo and the word Windows on my desktop, but no progress bar or any sign of progress being made. I realize this is a huge file and takes a long time to complete installation, but I wonder if this is normal for using this tool?

I have an YOGA 2 that are currently running Windows 10 Version 1703 without any problem.Due to some issues related to how the equipment recognizes the starndard language, that is malfunctioning, Microsoft customer support suggested me to update it to the last version of Windows 10 (Version 1709).In the other hand, they also had told me that several Lenovo customers, faced real trouble after uptading their equipments.I didn't find, specifically Yoga 2 on the foruns related to Version 1709 but, frankly speaking, I'm really afraid of trying to solve a minor issue causing a bigger one.Does anybody here can help me to decide if I should proceed or not with the Windows 10 update? Thanks in advance, best, Marco

Hi all,
I was wondering whether you could help. This may or may not be a coincidence but after I upgraded from Windows 10 Pro 1703 to 1709 and powered the PC off and back on, the PC's BIOS says it can't find the disk and instructs you to either press F1 to skip or F2 to enter the PC's BIOS setup, I kept on pressing F1 and kept getting stuck in a continuous loop after the BIOS's splash screen. The PC's disk setup is 4TB Hybrid Hard Disk which is formatted as GPT and is split into 6 partitions, 5 that are bootable and 1 as a storage area. The 5 bootable partitions are 120GB each containing Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64, Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64, Windows 8 Pro x64, Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and Windows 10 1709 x64 and all in logical boot order whereas the storage area is using the remaining 3496GB and is non bootable. The BIOS boots the drive using UEFI without secure boot and CSM but in the current situation I am using the drive that came with the PC with making this the master drive and the hybrid drive as the Slave drive. The configuration for this drive is a 250GB MBR with Windows 10 1709 x64 and the PC is currently booting it in legacy. I can access the contents of the hybrid drive via the 250GB drive which is an ordinary SATA drive using Windows Explorer. I have performed numerous checks using Seagate Tools for Windows and Check Disk and none of them have picked up any faults? Your help would be very gratefully appreciated.

I am having issues on a few models of dell (i've only tested E7270 & E7470).
The drivers seems to stop working after 1 reboot after the upgrade is complete (i am using MDT to prepare this systems to 1703 and had the drivers imported from the most recent driver cab). Has anyone encountered the same ?

They both seems to have Network (Both LAN and WLAN), Intel ME driver & HD audio driver issues.

btw, I tried to update the latest driver from dell website but they didn't seem to help. (the driver dates 19 Oct 2017).

How do I install this 1079, and is it that important? Thank you.

Hi all, I have a Inspiron 5567, i5-7200U, 8GB ram laptop. Before the update to Windows 10 build 1709, I could connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI without any issues. Since the update, all I get when I connect is an error message on the TV stating Resolution unsupported, change resolution on external device. The laptop will detect that the TV is connected and tells me that two monitors are connected if I go into the graphics driver properties.
I have tried a different HDMI cable, a different HDMI port on the TV, made sure all of the drivers are up to date, changed resolutions, changed display output type (extend, duplicate etc), checked for any device errors, but no luck. I have even got Microsoft involved to see if they could fix it, but no joy there either.
I have noticed that the Intel driver is a little ahead of the Dell/Intel driver version installed on my laptop, but when I go to install that, it fails saying that I need to go back to the manufacturer (Dell). I have even contacted my TV manufacturer, and they had no help either.
I'm 100% convinced that the latest 1709 build broke something, as I can roll back to the previous build and it works again. Unfortunately, I can't check against the latest Intel video driver, because it won't let me, even if I uninstall it first.
Is there anyone else having this issue? is there anything else I can try?

Microsoft Explains Why Not Everyone Gets Windows 10 Version 1709 on Day 1

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update rollout started on October 17, and until now, only new devices received it as Microsoft has embraced a gradual release to computers across the world.

In a blog post today, John Cable, Director of Program Management, Windows Servicing and Delivery, points out that the final goal is to deliver flawless upgrade experience to all devices, as it collects feedback from customers and telemetry data from the first systems getting the update to improve the release for others.

?The Fall Creators Update begins rolling out to newer devices tested by us and our device partners. By starting with machines which we believe will have the best update experience, we are able to get focused feedback on application compatibility and how Windows works with the rich ecosystem of available peripherals like Bluetooth devices or cameras,? Cable points out.

A similar approach was used for the Creators Update as well, and at that point, it took nearly 3 months to complete the rollout, so expect the process to need at least as much for the Fall Creators Update as well.

More devices tested before the launch
Microsoft says it uses all existing feedback channels to determine any potential issues that certain configurations could hit when upgrading to the Fall Creators Update, and based on this data, to decide whether the new OS version should be released to more computers or not.

* Let me preface by saying that I have no experience with this issue on another operating system for any extended period of time.  The laptop came with Windows 7 and in the limited time I was testing with that I had no issues.  I installed Windows 10 (1709) fresh and have had the issue consistently since then.  My tests indicate this is a driver and not a hardware issue * Basically, what is happening is about once or twice an hour my touchpad pointer will become non-responsive.  I will move my finger on the pad and the mouse either doesn't move or doesn't appear (if offscreen/hidden/etc).During this time the touchpad buttons work and the TrackPoint stick also works to move the pointer.  The issue seems limited to just the pad. When the issue occurs it lasts for about 5 seconds or so.  During this time I try several things like tapping multiple times on the pad, trying to push harder, or moving the TrackPoint stick.  It seems that the latter often seems to kick control back.  TBH, I haven't yet shown enough patience to let it sit for 15 seconds and see if the control returns (I will be doing some more testing on all of this). I am using the Windows 10 drivers shown on the download page:Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad 19.0.17.135 - 1/28/18 I have tried other drivers from different Lenovo products (some earlier some later).Either the drivers don't work at all, or they g... IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Anyone else having this problem?

A:Windows 10 1709 update failing to install on Alienware 17 R3

Generally, the IQRL error is a memory problem.
Here is one explanation doing a search for that error:
"This Stop message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory address to which it did not have permission to access"
Which in your case is the upgrade detected an error and fell back.
Have you tried the upgrade more than once?
FWIW, I'm having a similar problem on a Toshiba laptop.  It gets to the "Preparing to install updates" but then aborts and then starts over.  Haven't figured out what is wrong yet.

I have just installed Windows Update 1709 and ended up with a Black Screen.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 660 which came with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO graphics card. After a lot of worry I decided to connect a second monitor to the VGA scocket on the motherboard  which sprang into life immeadiately.
I then trawled the internet looking for problems with ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO (AMD) and the latest Windows update, there are many many instances. The problem is with the driver, Device Manager shows "No driver installed for this device", although looking at the driver tab I have a driver dated 10/10/17 version 23.20.768.9. I downloaded 2 updates from and AMD website neither were successful.
I've tried rolling back the driver and deinstalling the device to no avail.
I'm still using the onboad VGA rather than the DVI-D socket on the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO.
So it looks like the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO is now obsolete as far as using it with Windows 10 is concerned.
I was hoping to find a solution on the DELL website as the card was supplied by DELL with the PC.

Neither port works. If I put a USB memory key into the Anker hub, it is not recognized, either. The same USB memory key is recognized if I insert it into the USB 2.0 connector on the right hand side of the laptop. When I connect my phone to the USB C connector, it is not recognized, either. The Anker USB Hub and my phone are both recognized when I connect them to my other laptop, so I have no reason to believe they're defective. Before I call Lenovo for support, what else can I check?

Hi all, So I've been running Win-10 build version 1607 for years now and no problems. Now MS is forcing a new auto-update to build version 1709. The problem is when the update script(s) shut down the machine, it hangs forever and never reboots, just the spinning wheel, no mouse, keyboard, etc. I have to hard power it down and it reboots fine still on build 1607, then Windows wants to update again doing a fresh download and the process repeats. I updateed the bios to the latest (V 2.30) and no change.  I'v deleted all the update files and still no change. Has anyone run into this and have any suggestions? Thanks, Tom D.

Hello Folks,
I have a XPS 13 9360, 16 GB with an upgrade Samsung 960 Evo NVMe 1TB drive. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Build 1703, and the system runs nicely. However, yesterday Windows Update made me upgrade to 1709. The upgrade process ran smoothly, but afterwards I had the following problems:

When I tried to save a Hyper-V VM, my system sometimes crashes with a blue screen
When shutting down windows, the system gets stuck on the "Shutting down..." screen and can only be switched off by long-pressing the power-button. After that, the system boots into maintenance mode, when rebooting again it boots normally.

I forced a downgrade to 1703 and the problems disappeared again. Now I have disabled upgrades and am trying to find out how to fix this.
Has anyone run into problems with the 1709 update? Any suggenstions?
Cheers,
Uwe
